  I would like to add an address to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts. I am running Windows 7 (Hebrew edition). I am the system administrator. I have tried the command "notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" to edit the file. I can write into the file but the system does not allow me to save into the file. What can be done to be able to make the addition? What is the correct format for this type of file? All lines in the existing file begin with "#". Does this mean anything?

• Editing the registry entry to have Citrix call the local install of an application

  We use Citrix to access an app (APP1) remotely. As it currently stands, when APP1 needs to do a merge document, it calls a session of another app (APP2) from the Citrix server. However, due to latency issues, we now want APP1 to call a local version of APP2. This is controlled in the registry entry for APP1. I'm wondering what kind of path entry would need to be made so that APP1 would call the local APP2 while following the rules of the Citrix profile.

  I'm trying to create image files on the users' desktop. Let's say i have a picture of an orange in my eclipse workspace in the resource folder. When somebody downloads the project, I want to take that image of an orange and put it in a folder called fruit on their desktop. Whenever i export my game it can't read the images anymore which is wierd so I prefer to try this method. Just like minecraft has its' stuff in %Appdata%, I want to put a folder with my images the game uses on the desktop. There isn't any errors, I'm just asking how do i do this.

This addon takes care of decryption when you open the file (asking for your keys pass phrase) and re-encrypts with modifications when the file is saved. Is there a text editor on windows (I'm using notepad++ right now) which have similar functionality?

• Debian 6: setting up FTP just for website editing

  I have a VPS using Debian 6.0. Currently, SSH is set to not accept password logins, and only key-based ones. A person who needs to work on one particular website (a vhost) wishes to use FTP. He doesn't need/want SSH. How can I set up FTP access for him, enabling him to have write permissions for all files in the relevant directory, and only the relevant directory? The directory is /srv/www/domainname.com/public_html Currently, all directories and files in that directory belong to www-data:www-data and are 644/755. I've installed vsftpd and have been reading some guides, but they all seem to deal with allowing multiple users to have their own user-named directories which isn't what I'm after. I can't seem to work out how to simply define one FTP user with a password that has access to one directory of my choosing. This is my first experience of setting up an FTP server. Thanks. Edit: have also found this - maybe I should be using ProFTPd, or can vsftpd also do what I want?

  I'm trying to understand the tutorial 16 at http://ogldev.atspace.co.uk, which requires the image processing library ImageMagick. But when I run the tutorial, I encountered an following error: freeglut: failed to change scree settings Error loading textures 'test.png': no decode delegates for this image format 'C:/../appdata/magick-6024a_cIJcw90t-j'@error/constitute.c/ReadImage/552 I searched for google and found that my ImageMagick library do not have PNG Delegaes, but when I checked for the information of ImageMagick, it sees PNG in its delegate lists. Command line: convert -configure Result: LIB_VERSION 0x687 DELEGATES: bzlib, freetype, jpeg, jp2, lcms, png, tiff, x11, xml, wmf, zlib Could you explain to me this error, thanks so much!

• Can't use command line – "command not found" after editing PATH

  I'm running OS X Mavericks and was trying to install MAMP PRO 2.2. I was trying to configure the PATH variable to have the PHP binaries of MAMP PRO. I added the following line on my ~/.bash_profile file: export PATH=/Applications/MAMP PRO/bin/php/php5.5.3/bin:$PATH As you may notice, since I have MAMP PRO and not just MAMP, I've added a space. As a consequence, I know have the following error each time I run the terminal: -bash: export: `PRO/bin/php/php5.5.3/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin': not a valid identifier Worst: I can't get any command to run, like: ls, clear etc. I always get: "command not found" I don't even know the absolute path for ls. How can I make the commands work again, so that I can properly fix the path I was trying to setup on the .bash_profile file?

• Multiple Graphics cards - Non Multi-Display Setup

  Is it possible for me to utilize the processing capabilities of multiple graphics cards, even if I'm only using one monitor? I recently bought a new AMD graphics card, fairly top of the line. I also have a two year old, decent nVidia card. They're obviously very different cards. I don't really mind for gaming because my current card can handle most games fine by itself. I'm concerned about video editing programs such as Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Would the system be able to utilize the power of both cards to, say, render a video? I have both drivers still installed on my machine. And because there is only one monitor connected to my current graphics card (AMD) the nVidia would be connected to no display. So I am wondering whether it would or could be utilized in some way to help in processing video. Thanks!

• Issue with image lightbox and enlargement / Jquery Mobile

  I'm working on a redesign of my weather website using Jquery Mobile. I have it set up so that you drill down through a series of content containers to get to the weather info (each group of info opens in a dialog display). Everything's worked well, but I've run into an issue with my images. I have them sized so that they fit a mobile device's screen nicely, but because of that, when you look at them in a desktop browser, you can't really make out what the image is. I've tried several image lightbox / enlargement solutions, but for some reason, none of them have worked. Either nothing happens or the images open in a new window. I thought that this might be caused by Jquery Mobile somehow overwriting the scripts and css of the lightbox / enlargements I've tried. I'm not completely sure though that this is the case, and if it is, how I can get around it to be able to enlarge the images to their original size, preferably onclick. Here is a working (for the most part - still some kinks to work out) example.   I am editing a 96 chapter book. The text is in normal black letters on a white background. What I want to be able to do is: I want to have any changes or additions automatically shown in another (per-selected) color. Without having to a)high lite a word or phrase to be changed or added and then b)going to the toolbar and clicking on the font color In other words I want the original color of the text to remain as it is and any additions or changes to be visible in another color without having to use the toolbar. I am not clear as what software can be used for this on Linux or Windows. I have users which use Windows and Linux both. I have used video editing on Mac using Final Cut Pro but the video on the above link is not some thing which can be achieved with FCP.(Or may be I am not aware) I am looking solution for 1) Linux users 2) Windows users In case of Linux it is Ubuntu for some users and Fedora for some others. I am a Linux guy so I am specifically posting this question in terms of Ubuntu but I also need suggestions for Windows type of users.I have no clue of such video animations at all.

• Prevent Xbox users from editing Media Library

  I am trying to watch some videos stored on my desktop computer on the Xbox, but they are in a format that the Xbox cannot decode, so I have to stream them through Windows Media Center. Actually, I have made the desktop recording and I have some shorts videos in mp4 format to work with it. Thats what I need: Cut some fragments of the videos Join the selected portions into a big video Make some transicions in the cutting points (A simple fade will do the job) Put some text in the bottom of the videos during a few seconds making explanations Adding fragments of sound from a mp3/wav record Thats all... • UbuntuStudio 12.04 does not boot after install - no "intrd" image

  After installing Ubuntu Studio 12.04 from DVD onto the fourth hard disk, it fails to boot, even when explicitly choosing the fourth hard disk as the boot device. I have SUSE 11.2 on the first 2 SCSI disks (which form a RAID) and Studio64 on the 1st IDE disk (that is, the third disk). Looking at the /boot directory on the Ubuntu partition, I see there is no initrd image. Editing the GRUB configuration file to include (hd3,1)/vmlinuz and of course (hd3,1)/initrd should fix the problem. But still GRUB gives a file not found error. This appears to me that, no mkintrd during the booting process (checked with LiveCD) runs like in OpenSUSE. How do I create the initrd to make Ubuntu bootable.

• Which app can I use for easily annotating pictures/screenshots?

  Often I need to annotate (draw some arrows, lines, basic shapes like squares, ellipses etc and enter some text) on top of pictures (JPG, PNG images) and screenshots (again png images). I would also need to be able to crop, resize etc. I tried the Gimp but I could only enter text and perform all image transformations but couldn't find a way to draw boxes etc. I finally settled to Openoffice.org draw, but I know that isn't what I want, because in oodraw I need to insert my pic into a drawing and resize it (or the drawing) to fit and then go about making changes and finally export to png... Is there any image editor that allows adding shapes and text to jpg & png files and save the modified file in its place? If the tool can also have template collections (like dia does) for shapes that is an added bonus.

After that, the user should be redirected to a product subscription page where he can select either 3 month, 6 month or on yearly basis. • What editor/viewer to use to inspect large text based files?

  Are there any text editors/viewers (preferably on windows but other platforms are also ok) that can handle files of 500 MB or more? The editors I checked so far (Notepad++, Notepad, Eclipse) all choked on files of that size. Edit: Many thanks for the great suggestions. I tried gvim as it was the top voted and was available on Windows. I opened the file in a reasonable time. After that scrolling and searching was very smooth as long as syntax highlighting was turned off. From the other editors mentioned TextPad and EmEditor both claim to be able to handle large files very well. EmEditor seems to be built exactly for editing large files. I'll probably try both and report back.

• Can a high FPS negatively affect how a program runs?

  Yeah I know this is a broad question and will get down rated, I'm just hoping for some answer before it gets closed. Anyway, I'm using Slick 2D/Java to play around with graphics. I'm having some trouble with trying to move an image. The weird thing is, the code works just fine on my laptop, but the image sporadically moves to (0,0) and stops on my desktop. The only difference between the two is that it says the FPS is about 500 on my laptop and 6600 on my desktop. Can that affect it or does someone have any ideas for what to check on?

• Editing remotely the PHP files on a Centos server

  I have a intranet web server (Centos 6, Apache, PHP) to which I would like to give access to a developer. He will connect by remote desktop from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 12.4 and from here by SSH to /var/www/html folder where it has to create and edit the files. This solution was chosen because: - I could not make a remote desktop connection from Windows to Centos - The web developer need some editor for PHP files and is not allowed to install software on Windows 7 machine - it is more a test solution ( we are all learning to use Linux). When the developer is connected from Ubuntu to Centos by SSH (SFTP) he could save the changes only if on Centos the account used to connect has ownership to that folder. Can you please tell how can I give all required rights. I tried different solutions found on Internet but without to much success. Are there other way to connect to Centos server?
