  • Question about factory classes

    Currently I have created a ABCFactory class that has a single method creating ABC objects. Now that I think of it, maybe instead of having a factory, I could just make a static method in my ABC Method. What are the pro's and con's on making this change? Will it not lead to the same? I don't foresee having other classes inherit ABC, but one never knows! Thanks

  • Two part question about submitting bluetooth-enabled apps for the iPhone

    I have a couple questions about submitting blue-tooth enabled apps on the iPhone. I want to first say that bluetooth is merely an option in the application. The application does not completely rely on bluetooth as there are many modes the user can go in. First, do they require you to have the "peer-peer" key set in UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities even if bluetooth interface options can be disabled or hidden for non-bluetooth enabled devices? Basically, it's just an OPTION in the game and there are many other modes the player can play.. Does Apple not allow you to do that? I'm just curious, because it seems like something they would do. Adding to that, how do you check for it's functionality at runtime? In essence, how do you check UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities at runtime. I'm aware of checking iPhone device types, so would that be a proper way of going about it? I'm also sort of unaware which devices can run bluetooth gamekit, there doesn't seem to be a proper reference at the SDK site, or I'm unable to find it. Thanks for reading! [edit] I can confirm the existance of somebody rejected for submitting a bluetooth enabled app which didn't work on a iPhone 2G.. Of course, they didn't say if that was the MAIN function of the app, though.

    What is the ending 'r' for and the leading 'd' for in file permissions on Linux? Example: drwxr-xr-x I know about the user, group, others part, and I know w=write, r=read, x=execute. But I don't know about the leading 'd' and the trailing 'r'. Care to explain? Thanks

    Hi, I've been working with a Legacy application which interacts with a database through ADODB, and most of the changes to records follow a fairly straightforward pattern of: Create a Recordset from a query Make various change to the recordset call .Update on the recordset. What I'm wondering is, with ADODB recordsets, is there anyway to extract the 'changes'. The logic which changes the recordset is scattered about, and all I need is the changes, not how it was changed... Any suggestions for tracking changes in a recordset (in code, a trigger on the DB or similar is no use here) Thanks in advance

    Ok, so I'm trying to select an amount of rows from a column that holds the value 3, but only if there are no rows containing 10 or 4, if there are rows containing 10 or 4 I only want to show those. What would be a good syntax to do that? So far I've been attempting a CASE WHEN statement, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (My database is in an MS SQL 2008 server)

    I have a Table and a Button. Table's cells have controls LiteralControl and CheckBox. I check some fields and then by click on button i remove these fields from database. On event Page_PreRender i clear Table and then fill it with updated data. Then it shows me Table with updated data. But if i check fields of table again and do a click on a button it wont do what i expected. In Page_Load event i see that it dont save properties of controls. Checked CheckBox controls appears as unchecked.

    I am very bad at regular expressions, but I have a regular expression that is working okay, except for one issue: /\/(.*?).php/ I only need this regular expression to find things like: /this-a-valid-page.php {some words here} /anotherpage.php { some words here} http://www.google.com but do not find URLs the problem i am having is that it find this parts of full URLS i want it to avoid these all together. http://www.google.com/page.php because i have another function that does something different than the filename reg exp.

    I'm completely new to .NET and am trying as a first step to write a text processing program. The task is simple: I have a list of 10,000 text files stored in one folder, and I'm trying to read each one, store it as a string variable, then run it through a series of functions, then save the final output to another folder. So far I can only manage to manually input the file path like this (in VB.NET): Dim tRead As System.IO.StreamReader Public Function ReadFile() As String Dim EntireFile As String tRead = File.OpenText("c:\textexample\00001.txt") EntireFile = tRead.ReadToEnd Return EntireFile End Function Public Function Step1() ..... Perhaps for example store all input file path into a text file then read each entry at a time, then save the final output into the save path, again listed in a text file.     I have created a method that takes two Collection<String> as input and copies one to the other. However, I am not sure if I should check if the collections contain the same elements before I start copying, or if I should just copy regardless. This is the method: /** * Copies from one collection to the other. Does not allow empty string. * Removes duplicates. * Clears the too Collection first * @param target * @param dest */ public static void copyStringCollectionAndRemoveDuplicates(Collection<String> target, Collection<String> dest) { if(target == null || dest == null) return; //Is this faster to do?     I have a meta class MyClass which adds an attribute to a class based on some of the properties of the class's methods. When I subclass MyClass I want it to still have that attribute, and append to the attribute's value based on the sub-class's methods (ie, sub-classing extends the same attribute that the base's meta creates.). Can this be done via the bases argument passed to __new__(cls, name, bases, dct)?

Why is it so? other escape characters like \" are working so why isn't \' working?

    I am reading "Java Concurrency in practice" and looking at the example code on page 51. This states that if a thread has references to a shared object then other threads may be able to access that object before the constructor has finished executing. I have tried to put this into practice and so I wrote this code thinking that if I ran it enough times a RuntimeException("World is f*cked") would occur. But it isn't doing. Is this a case of the Java spec not guaranting something but my particular implementation of java guaranteeing it for me? (java version: 1.5.0 on Ubuntu) Or have I misread something in the book?     I modified a sample photo manager application. photo manager application Instead of photos, I have employee records coming from a query. My version will let managers mark employees as on vacation, or at work. One of the things I did is to include employee ids like <a href="123">. I get the ids from event.target. This works for the click function but not for the "droppable" function. What's in this object? How do i get the href out of this? thanks

    PostgreSQL stores statistics about tables in the system table called pg_class. The query planner accesses this table for every query. These statistics may only be updated using the analyze command. If the analyze command is not run often, the statistics in this table may not be accurate and the query planner may make poor decisions which can degrade system performance. Another strategy is for the query planner to generate these statistics for each query (including selects, inserts, updates, and deletes). This approach would allow the query planner to have the most up-to-date statistics possible. Why postgres always rely on pg_class instead?
