  • Web based KVM management for Ubuntu

    Hey all, We've got a single Ubuntu 9.10 root server on which we want to run multiple KVM virtual machines. To administer these virtual machines I'd like a web based KVM management tool, but I don't know which one to choose from the list of tools mentioned on linux-kvm.org. I've used virsh & virt-manager on my desktop, but would like a web interface for the server. I tested ConVirt on my desktop, but it failed to pickup KVM machines from virsh / virt-manager, and I could not get KVM virtual machine import to work (only Xen). oVirt looks good, but I can't find out if and how I can install it on Ubuntu 9.10.. (And I'd really rather not waste another few days on testing stuff that might not work in the end.) Can anyone recommend any good web based KVM management tools that are easy to install on Ubuntu 9.10? I'm looking for something that will also allow me to run other services like apache and postgresql besides hosting virtual machines, so preferably fairly lightweight & no dedicated OS installs. We don't need any professional clustering / migration or anything, just something that will let us create, start, inspect, administer & stop virtual machines from a web page. Best regards, Tim

  • How do I set up a public server on a network?

    I am trying to set up a personal cloud server with OwnCloud on Ubuntu. LAMP is all set up. I was able to access it using the external IP address when I connected it directly to the modem, but what if I what if I want my server to share a LAN? I still want it accessible over the internet, but then if I go to the IP address from a web browser, it just tries to log into to router admin tools. The internal IP address works across the LAN, but I want to be able to access it from anywhere. This may be simple and I may be over-thinking it, but how do access my server? The router I am using is ASUS WL-520GU.

    I have a dedicated server with multiple IP adresses. I run them on Plesk but some of the names are confusing me. One ip has a subnet mask of 225.225.225.192, another has 225.225.225.0. What does this mean and what happens if i change that. Another thing i got a gateway. What is that and when will that come in handy. Another thing I see sometimes behind the ip's is /number. For example: 200.20.20.20/24 200.20.20.20/16 200.20.20.20/8 What will these numbers say.

  • Recovering database files from a corrupted VHD

    We have a SQL server hosted on a virtual machine. Our hosting company updated/restarted the server and for some reason the virtual machines became unbootable. We've spoken to Microsoft and used a few higher level tools to attempt to recover the virtual machines but were unsuccessful. In browsing the file system the database folder doesn't even appear. I'm wondering if there are any lower level tools that might be able to find and copy the database files. As far as I know the physical hard drive is ok, so I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the files themselves even if the rest of the virtual machine file-system is a loss. Obviously we're in a bit of a bind, and any help/ suggestions are very much appreciated.

  • Setting up Dynamic DNS for Wireless Cameras And Accessing them Remotely

    I've been trying to set up two TP LINK wireless N cameras that I bought so that I can see them remotely. I've set it up so that each has it's own ip address (192...105/192...106) and I can access them if I type that into the browser of a local computer The thing is that I don't know how to access them from another remote PC. My current setup is a a each camera connected to the router which then connects to the modem. When I set up the Dynamic DNS, and I access the "webpage" for my IP through a remote computer, it just goes to the configuration page of the modem. I have no idea how to make it go to the router or to the cameras. the router has its own ip range of 192.168.1.x while the modem has 192.168.2.x To access the cameras I type into the web browser: 192.168.1.114:100 on the local computer but I have no idea how to get there through the webpage of my Dynamic DNS remotely.

  • Converting my PC to a server

    I live in a university campus and luckly I have super fast internet in my room, with a static IP address. I tried to setup XAMPP and by pointing to my IP address from anywhere I can access the services running on my PC. Now I am thinking of hosting my own website on my own PC. I am not sure what else I will need (beside the static IP) to make this happen (if it is possible at all). I am running Windows 7 ultimate and of course I do have a domain registered. What should I point my domains DNS names to make this happen (I assume it is far more steps involved!)

  • Git - ssh key / ip address

    When I set up Git, I did it while using a dsl modem, and my ip isn't static, so when I generated the ssh keys for Git, it was based on that ip. When I'm assigned an ip other than the one used to generate the ssh Git keys, I can manually change the ip address to the one used to generate the keys. What are my other options to bypass this step? Dynamic DNS? Is there another way?

For applications that can't be re-IP'd (many exist in this category), the general answer is to nuke and pave (or extend a clusterable application, then remove the segment that needs to be "moved").     Hi, I have to use a Virtual(on screen) keyboard on a asp:textbox which has a AjaxControlToolkit's automcomplete attached to it, the virtual keyboard I use is the jQuery keypad plug in: http://keith-wood.name/keypadRef.html , but I have some problems with combining these two: Typing in the virtual keyboard does not trigger the Autocomplete list. When the textbox has autopostback=true if you click anything on virtual keyboard the textbox loses its focus and posts the form.

  • SBS 2008 DNS issues in BPA

    I'm gettng constant Critical Issue events in the Small Business Server Best Practices Analyser & resulting SBS Console reports that begin "The DNS client is not configured to point only to the internal IP address of the server.". When I check the DNS Manager, there are two separate IPs listed, one ***.***.***.2 and the other ***.***.***.28. I have checked online after an ipconfig /all and have found the reason for this to be that the second IP is created by DHCP for RAS & VPN purposes. It seems to cause no conflicts of any detrimental result apart from constantly sending me error messages and alerted reports. Does anyone know of a way that I can change settings somewhere so that Windows accepts this second IP, or at least stops alerting me of its prescence? Perhaps a registry hack of some kind...? There are of course dozens of examples of using virtual users with Dovecot, but all the ones we have found either refer to Dovecot 1.x (we are using 2.x), using only virtual users (we must use real AND virtual users) or want to use a MySQL db, we need to use a text file. Some hints about where we are going wrong would be very much appreciated.

    I am using Microsoft VPC running the supplied microsoft images to test IE6/7. The ip addresses that get assigned to these images are via dhcp and get valid ip addresses in my subnet. They can access the external internet just fine. However, they cannot ping my host machine, nor can my host machine ping them (using internal ip addresses). Thus, they can't access my webserver to test with. How is this possible and how do I fix it?

  • ISC DHCP - Force clients to get a new IP address, instead of the being re-issued their previous lease's IP

    We are in the middle of a migration of our DHCP and DNS services from a Debian-based server to a Windows Server 2008 R2 implementation. The Debian server is running isc-dhcpd-V3.1.1. All of workstations are configured to have fixed-addresses between .3 and .40 (the motivation behind that choice is mostly management/political much like here). DHCP leases are given out in the range of .100 to .175. Statically configured servers live in the .200 block and above (which is mostly empty). When we move to the Windows platform, management/political considerations require me to move the IP ranges around again. We would like to keep .1 - .10 reserved for network appliances, switches, and other infrastructure. .200 will remain designated for servers. The addressing space in between should be available to clients and IPs should be dynamically allocated (Edit: instead of automatic as originally mentioned) by the server. My Address Pool on the Windows Server looks like this: 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.254 (Address range for distribution) 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.10 (IP addresses excluded from distribution) 192.168.0.200 192.168.0.254 (IP addresses excluded from distribution) Currently, we have all of our clients still on the .3 - .40 range, and a few machines still active in the .100 - .175 (although there are lots devices that are powered off that still have expired leases with IPs from that range). Since the lease "database" isn't shared between the old and new DHCP server how can I prevent clients from receiving a lease with an IP address that is currently being held by client with a non-expired lease from the old DHCP server? If I just expand the range on the Debian DHCP server to be 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.199 is there a way to force clients to not re-use their old IP address when they send their DHCPDISCOVER? Can I make the Windows DHCP server be authoritiative like the ISC implementation? The dhcpd.conf from the Debian server: ddns-update-style none; authoritative; default-lease-time 43200; #12 hours max-lease-time 86400; #24 hours subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option routers 192.168.0.1; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255; range 192.168.0.100 192.168.0.175; } host workstation-1 { hardware ethernet 00:11:22:33:44:55; fixed-address 192.168.0.3; } ... and so on until 192.168.0.40

I have windows XP, and i am going to have to have a VM running: Windows 7 Visual Studio 2008 Sql Server 2008 IIS 7 (8 in a little while) Wamp Photoshop CS5 etc... so i was wondering what should i use to be easier to install and configure, and best performance: Virtual Box or Microsoft's Virtual Machine? I have created a virtual machine but Windows Virtual PC doesn't allow access to a USB external hard disk when booting from the Acronis Recovery CD. I've copied the backup onto the host machine and I can access it via the network using the Acronis boot CD but I'm wondering if there is an easier way? Does any other free Virtual Machine software support USB devices during boot (i.e. I can restore a backup image from the USB hard disk directly)
