  • Should users be deleted after inactivity on a website?

    When you have a social website or a website where you can register, would you eventually delete them after a certain time (after a year of inactivity) or would you rather keep their account records for ever? I know websites like Facebook have large amount of inactive, duplicated and fake accounts. So I'm wondering if after two years of inactivity it would be alright to send the account a warning email of deletion unless they log in. Just thinking of a clean and efficient database management or any implications this may cause to new potential users.

  • Unable to download a file using drag&drop

    I've been downloading images from the Internet doing drag&drop while holding the Ctrl key. Using Google Chrome, and of course Nautilus, it used to work fine. But I recently had problems with packages and now every time I do that a warning menu appears showing this message: The specified location is not supported Probably I removed the packaged which allowed me to download content... can anybody help me? Note: Downloading doing right-click works, but I use more drag&drop.

    I've found this tutorial to install APC on servers with lighttpd + php 5.2 on Ubuntu 10. However, when I run sudo pecl install apc the package is just downloaded and is not installed. (i.e. I'm not asked the next question" and apc.ini file is not created at all. If I run only pecl install apc I get a warning (no permissions to write some files). (I need instructions for both 9.04 and 10.04) thanks

    I've been trying to compile Slingshot for a preview of Elementary OS.     Hello ! I have tried to sett my DC to get its time from several NTP severs. I follow this answer (http://serverfault.com/questions/24298/w32time-sync-problems-for-hyper-v-guests-w32time-event-ids-38-24-29-35/24299#24299) to do it. First I disable Time Synchronization in the Hyper-V Integration Services for each guest. Then restart the Windows Time serviceon the guest. I had before this used this command: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:"ntp.uio.no;timekeeper. uio.no;nissen.uio.no;0.no.pool.ntp.org;1.no.pool.ntp.org;2.no.pool.ntp.org" /syn cfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update And the cmd sad: The command completed successfully. But the time was still 10 min wrong... I run w32tm again after restarted the DC without it having any effect.   • Moving from ColdFusion 8 to ColdFusion 10 - Migration Fails

    After having made several attempts to migrate from a ColdFusion 8 Standard server to a ColdFusion 10 Standard server, it feels like I am "almost" there. I'm using the 64 bit installer from Adobe's website. I'm using a Windows Server 2008 (64 bit) server with IIS 7.0. The installation itself goes smooth and the services start and are running. But at the end of the installation it says "ColdFusion Installed, but with errors" and it generates a log file. The log file reads: Migration Error: : Check that "C:\ColdFusion8" is a valid directory and is an installation of either ColdFusion MX 6 or ColdFusionMX 7 and further down says: Status: WARNING Additional Notes: WARNING - Could not migrate settings from previous version of ColdFusion Custom Action: com.macromedia.ia.action.MigrateColdFusionAction Status: ERROR Additional Notes: ERROR - class com.macromedia.ia.action.MigrateColdFusionAction NonfatalInstallException null The applicationHost.config file has new XML referencing the ColdFusion 10 directory, but IIS is still using ColdFusion 8. I'm also going to guess that the settings in the CF Administrator have not been migrated based on the message in the log above. I've followed the instructions on Adobe's site, including ensuring that ASP.NET, CGI, ISAPI Extensions, and ISAPI Filters are all enabled. I've also enabled IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility even though I don't think it's needed. Has anyone else had similar issues with ColdFusion 10 and IIS 7.     I have a webserver that has an ssl certificate applied to a subdomain https://shop.mydomain.com. I also have the hostname http://mydomain.com that has no ssl certificate. When invoking https://mydomain.com, browsers issue a warning that a certificate could not be verified because the webserver is identifying itself as https://shop.mydomain.com. I would like all traffic that hits https://mydomain.com to be redirected to http://mydomain.com, and leave https://shop.mydomain.com as is. My httpd.conf file generally looks like this: < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:80 > ServerName shop.mydomain.com .. regular old port 80 .. < /VirtualHost > < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:443 > ServerName shop.mydomain.com .. SSL applies here .. < /VirtualHost > < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:80 > ServerName mydomain.com .. regular old port 80 .. < /VirtualHost > It does not look as if I have SSL set up for https://mydomain.com yet one can invoke SSL mode and the browser identifies the connection as https://shop.mydomain.com. I need to redirect from https://mydomain.com because for some reason, Google has indexed my website with this url even though it shows a warning. I have tried various methods to get this to redirect and nothing has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
