  I have this scenario and everything it's working OK, but I want to configure my Shorewall and I can't do it. My interfaces are: br0 (bridge of eth0) tun0 (OpenVPN) vnet* (each one of bridged interfaces with public IP's) Public Main IP: 188.165.X.Y OpenVPN IP's: 172.28.0.x Bridge: public ip's So, I have the next configuration for shorewall: /etc/shorewall/zones #ZONE TYPE OPTIONS IN OUT # OPTIONS OPTIONS fw firewall inet ipv4 road ipv4 /etc/shorewall/interfaces #ZONE INTERFACE BROADCAST OPTIONS inet br0 detect routeback road tun+ detect routeback /etc/shorewall/policy #SOURCE DEST POLICY LOG LIMIT: CONNLIMIT: # LEVEL BURST MASK $FW all ACCEPT inet $FW DROP info road all DROP inet road DROP /etc/shorewall/tunnels #TYPE ZONE GATEWAY GATEWAY # ZONE openvpnserver:1194 inet 0.0.0.0/0 The problem is that even with shorewall running I am able to ping or connect to the virtual machines behind the bridge

• VirtualBox won't use any kind of hardware acceleration

  I see an problem with VirtualBox hardware acceleration functionality... My system configuration: MSI PH67A-C43 (B3) (BIOS: 2.70) Intel Core i5-2400 Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.10 Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack 4.1.10 I can select the individual acceleration options such as PAE/NX, VT-x/VMD-V or Nested Paging within VM-Settings but if I start the VM the accelerations will be disabled as of the tooltip from CPU (right next to shared folders). Each acceleration is "Disabled". Does this sounds familar to anybody? How can I solve this?

  I have a VPS with A2Hosting for which i need to upgrade the OS. However, they've changed their VPS packages and forced me to order a new one. I went with an "unmanaged" package and have only just realised that they do not provide any DNS service at all, not even nameservers. Support tells me that "since your domain is not hosted with us, but with Moniker, you would not be able to use these nameservers. Your domain registrar should have a set of default nameservers that you can use, then create a A record to point to" my IP address. Moniker does provide for using their nameservers but i'm confused about which "pre-defined zone configuration" to use. They are: Domain Parking Domain Parking with Email Forwarding URL and Email Forwarding URL Forwarding URL Forwarding & CoolHandle Email I just want to use their nameserver and then create A & MX records pointing to the VPS. What do they mean by forwarding? I get the feeling it's a service that i don't want. Or, is it that i need to have a pre-defined zone only temporarily, and THEN set the A & MX? Which of these should i choose.

• Lighttpd not starting - no error

  I recently installed Lighttpd on Ubuntu Server 10.04 x86_64 and created several websites. What I do is include /etc/lighttpd/vhost.d/*.conf and put a configuration file for each website in that directory. The problem I have is when I "service lighttpd start" I get the message that the service started, there is no error message: root@178-33-104-210:~# service lighttpd start Syntax OK * Starting web server lighttpd [ OK ] But then if I take a look at the services listening, Lighttpd is nowhere to be seen: root@178-33-104-210:~# netstat -tap Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 localhost:mysql *:* LISTEN 829/mysqld tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 737/vsftpd tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 739/sshd tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN 739/sshd So I'm looking at ways I could troubleshoot this. I checked in /var/log/lighttpd/error.log and there's nothing in it. Edit: Sorry, I indicated I use CentOS but it's actually Ubuntu Server (I usually use CentOS but had to go with Ubuntu for that one).

• Python multithreading not working on VPS server

  I am running an python multithreaded application with multiple processes which scrapes data from some websites. While running on my localhost It works great, but on the vps server I am using( Centos 5.8, 2.6 GHZ with 4 cores) performs very slow. From the nethogs command I get the network usage too low. I get around 8KBps with 15 threads. On other hand, in my PC I get the usage around 100-120KBPS. I have read about the Python GIL and threading limitations. It seems GIL never releases the lock on the VPS though it should while doing I/0 Is there any configuration in the VPS that I need to change for the threading to work properly?

• esxi 5.1 - copy paste host config doesn't work?

  I followed these instructions for esxi 5.1 to enable copy paste from the host config. (search for "To enable this option for all the virtual machines in the ESX/ESXi host:") http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026437 But copy and paste doesn't work for new VMs or existing VMs. Did I do something wrong somewhere? I've rebooted VMs and even rebooted host. I can confirm that if I do a per VM configuration, it works. Just not a central host config. Here is a screenshot of my /etc/vmware/config file

  Quick resolution: Give full permission to AUTHENTICATED USERS in following folders. a) ORACLE_HOME b) Program Files\ORACLE   Check your PATH. You might have installed different clients in your system and your .NET application is pointing to a home with inappoperiate client. What your .NET application should load is OCI.DLL with File version more than 8.1.7. According to the MSDN document Oracle and ADO.NET:   "The .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle provides access to an Oracle database using the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) as provided by Oracle Client software. The functionality of the data provider is designed to be similar to that of the .NET Framework data providers for SQL Server, OLE DB, and ODBC. "     The MSDN document System Requirements (Oracle) says: "The .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle requires Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.6 or later. MDAC 2.8 SP1 is recommended. You must also have Oracle 8i Release 3 (8.1.7) Client or later installed. "   Both the .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle and Oracle Data Provider for .NET are data providers to access Oracle database. • HP Smart Array; Is it possible to convert Raid1 to Raid0 by dropping a failed drive?

  I have a server that was running two 60GB drives as a logical RAID1. At some point the second drive was physically removed and the logical drive has been in "Interim Recovery Mode" for several months now. There's no need for the redundancy of RAID1 on this machine, and I have no intention of replacing the missing drive. If possible I would like to convert the current RAID1 to a single-drive RAID0 by simply dropping the failed drive from the current configuration. I'm only interested in doing this if it can be done in-place. Otherwise I'm perfectly content to leave it in "Interim Recovery Mode" indefinitely.

• Shared mailbox - users cannot create or view subfolders

  I've setup a shared mailbox on our Exchange 2010/SBS2011 server. I've added some users as Full permission-users on this mailbox, and when they open Outlook/login to OWA the mailbox is automatically opened. Great stuff. However, only the Inbox folder is visible, and the alternative to create a folder is grayed out. If they open the mailbox explicitly (for instance in OWA by clicking open other user's mailbox) they can see other folders, as well as create new ones. What configuration is needed to be able to view and create subfolders directly?

But for HTTPS request, I lose the "forwardfor" information. I need to save the client IP address. How can I use HAproxy to load balance across a number of SSL servers, allowing those servers to know the client's IP address?

• Windows replacement for HAProxy

  It does not appear that there is a similar question to this already posted, so I will go ahead and ask. I am working on a project that could benefit from having two - four servers handling incoming requests to a backend webservice. The service does not require SSL but does need to support occassional long running processes (upto 120 secs). This project does not at present have the funding to purchase a hardware load balancing solution. I have previously used HAProxy as a solution for this, and found it very simple and straightforward. Is there a similar product for windows (server 2003 or 2008) which provides similar configuration options and runs as a lightweight service? For reasons outside my control I cannot setup a Linux machine (physical or virtual) and so I am looking for behaviour that can be deployed on a windows machine. I can only find Perlbal which appears to fall into this category. So as not to keep this open indifenitely I will give credit to the only answer.

  Here is the flag to enable or to disable JSSE.-Dweblogic.ssl.JSSEEnabled=true|false Oracle recommends that you keep this value set to true.  Starting WLS 12c, Even if the above option is set to false , it is ignored. The changes are neither persisted nor the Mbean value is also left unmodified.... Please also be aware of the below changes in SSL implementation in 12c version 1. Certicom has been removed from WebLogic Server 12.1.1 and is no longer supported. 2. JSSE is the only SSL implementation that is supported in WebLogic Server 12.1.1. The following configuration changes have been made to be consistent with this support: The default for JSSEEnabled has been changed to true. Oracle recommends that you keep this value set to true. If JSSEEnabled is set to false, it will be ignored. That is, the MBean value will not be changed either in memory or the persisted config.xml file. • Designing web-based plugin systems correctly so they don't waste as many resources?

  Many CMS systems which rely on third parties for much of their code often build "plugin" or "hooks" systems to make it easy for developers to modify the codebase's actions without editing the core files. This usually means an Observer or Event design pattern. However, when you look at systems like wordpress you see that on every page they load some kind of bootstrap file from each of the plugin's folders to see if that plugin will need to run that request. Its this poor design that causes systems like wordpress to spend many extra MB's of memory loading and parsing unneeded items each page. Are there alternative ways to do this? I'm looking for ideas in building my own. For example, Is there a way to load all this once and then cache the results so that your system knows how to lazy-load plugins? In other words, the system loads a configuration file that specifies all the events that plugin wishes to tie into and then saves it for future requests? If that also performs poorly, then perhaps there is a special file-structure that could be used to make educated guesses about when certain plugins are unneeded to fullfil the request. Any ideas? • HP Officejet 6000 E609n unexpectedly goes offline

  My local library has a number of Windows Vista SP1 PCs connected to two HP Officejet 6000 E609n wireless printers. Each PC can print to either of the two printers and one of the two printers is the default on each PC. This configuration has worked well over the last year w/o any trouble. Recently, the library staff is reporting that sometimes when patrons try to print, they can't. Closer inspection shows that the the default wireless printer is offline. In order to get the printer online again, the printer has to be restarted. In Control Panel Printers applet, under the Printer menu, the "Use Printer Offline" option is grayed out and there's no way to bring the printer back online w/o restarting it. Does anyone know what's going on here?
