  • SQL Server Restore from Backup, Just primary File Group

    Thankfully, this question is just a what-if, and I am not in an emergency right now. But I have created a file group in my database (sql server 2008), and moved some massive data tables over to it. Leaving my websites central tables in the Primary file group. In the event of a restore, can I restore just the primary file group, and have a working database? Or do I have to restore both file groups? I don't want my site down for ages while it restores the 2nd file group.

  • Backup the Windows user folder in the cloud?

    As I understand it, Google Drive and Dropbox, the two cloud storage providers I happen to know, can only sync a predefined folder that is created upon installation. I'd be happy to have an automated synchronisation of my folders in the cloud, but I'm not ready to change my habits, and start saving all my documents in the folder imposed by the provider. Is it possible with one of these, or any other you might know, to sync the full Windows user folder instead?

    My puppet master server had a hardware failure, and I have restored to another box. However this box has different hardware and hostname. If I restore the existing /etc/puppet directory to the new server, the puppetmaster will not start with the following error; # puppetmasterd --debug --verbose Could not prepare for execution: Retrieved certificate does not match private key; please remove certificate from server and regenerate it with the current key So what steps do I need to take to allow the new puppetmaster to start, and to generate a new puppetmaster certificate using the old ca.. Also will the puppet clients actually report in to a different puppet server using a server certificate that has been generated with the old CA?

  • Unable to logoff, disconnect, or reset terminal server user in production environment

    I'm looking for some ideas on how to disconnect, logoff, or reset a user's session in a 2008 Terminal Server (unable to login as the user either as it is completely locked-up). This is a production environment, so rebooting the server or doing something system-wide is out of the question for now. Any Powershell tricks to help us with this? We've tried killing the session's processes too, directly from the same terminal server (from the task manager, Terminal Services Manager and the Resource Monitor) with no results. Help!

  • IT lead does not have a backup, DR plan in writing

    This is a general management question to IT managers out there. We are a small firm with about 4 servers in our colo cabinent. No full time IT manager. But we do have one person on monthly contract and I am having a terrible time getting him to share what these plans actually are. I am sure he HAS a plan (and its probably in his head..) but that does us no good if he gets hit by a bus.. How would you guys handle this? He is a long time friend, but I fear this is dangerous for us long term..I have confronted him on several occasions about this, and he tells me not to worry, he has go it covered.. Thanks.

  • How to backup or export PowerStrip display profiles?

    I would like to save two of my saved PowerStrip display profiles. Earlier I set 720x540 resolution and some other settings (frequency, etc.) to another display device usually used in extended mode, which is now NOT connected: But when I go to "Advanced timing options", I see some different settings. I thought I could copy settings with the copy icon , but this way I would copy the wrong ones, not the predefined ones (with the 720x540 resolution): What is the best method to "export" these settings before formatting the hard drive?

  • Loadbalance UDP traffic with session affinity and way to take servers in & out of rotation

    What is the best way to go about load balancing UDP traffic among a whole bunch of servers, while keeping session affinity based on the users' IP? I need to also be able to take servers in and out of rotation for new clients, so when they join for the first time, they get put on a server in a list of available servers, and clients already connected would stay connected to their specific server. I have written the software to maintain a list, but I can't seem to find anything that would perform this functionality. If you need the context, this is to facilitate game tournaments for Minecraft: Pocket Edition, which is done with UDP traffic, I cannot change the protocol. And, because tournaments open and close, I need to be able to place players on their proper servers. Performance is also a priority, I have a program to do this but it is very bloated and slow.     For about 4-5 months now, I seem to be having this sporadic issue--mainly during our busiest time of the day between 10:30-11:45AM, where all my Windows 2003 web servers in a Microsoft NLB cluster start throwing session state server errors. A sample error is below. System.Web.HttpException: Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection. If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' as the server name. at System.Web.SessionState.OutOfProcSessionStateStore.MakeRequest(StateProtocolVerb verb, String id, StateProtocolExclusive exclusiveAccess, Int32 extraFlags, Int32 timeout, Int32 lockCookie, Byte[] buf, Int32 cb, Int32 networkTimeout, SessionNDMakeRequestResults& results) at System.Web.SessionState.OutOfProcSessionStateStore.SetAndReleaseItemExclusive(HttpContext context, String id, SessionStateStoreData item, Object lockId, Boolean newItem) at System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule.OnReleaseState(Object source, EventArgs eventArgs) at System.Web.HttpApplication.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) Now I'm using ASP.NET State service on a centralized back-end Windows 2003 server that all servers communicate to. I was originally using SQL Server state for a couple years as well prior to having this issue. The problem with SQL wqas that when the issue occurred, it created a blocking situation which essentially impacted all users across all servers. The product company recommended that I use the standard ASP.NET State service as that was what they technically supported. Why this would make a difference is beyond me -- but I had no choice but to try it! I have attempted to create multiple application pools, adding additional servers, chaning TCP/IP timeout from 20 to 30 seconds, and even calling Microsoft ASP.NET product support, with very little success. I even recommended that they review whether they are using read-only session state instead of read/write per page request -- as I understand that this basically causes every page to make round-trips to state server even if state isn't being used on the page. Unfortunately, the application is developed by our product company and they insist that it is something with my environment because other clients do not have these sort of issues. However, I've talked to other clients and they tell me when they've seen issues like they, they've basically had to create another web farm. This issue almost seems like I've simply reached some architectural limit within the application... Microsoft's position on the issue is that the session state needs to be reduced and the returncode being reported back from the state server indicates buffers are full. To better understand the scope of issues (rather than wait for customers to call and complain), I installed ELMAH and configured it to send me e-mails when unhandled exceptions occur. I basically get 500-1000 e-mails during the time period of high activity! If any one has any other ideas I could try or better ways to troubleshoot, I'd appreciate it.

    I am trying to set up mod_proxy_balancer for routing requests to 2 jboss7-servers. For the time being I am testing this setup on my local machine, using following config in httpd.conf: ProxyRequests Off <Proxy \*> Order deny,allow Deny from all </Proxy> ProxyPass / balancer://mycluster/ stickysession=JSESSIONID|jsessionid scolonpathdelim=On <Proxy balancer://mycluster> BalancerMember http://localhost:8080 route=node1 BalancerMember http://localhost:8081 route=node2 Order allow,deny Allow from all </Proxy> and in the standalone.xml file of each jboss I have defined the jvmRoute system property: <system-properties> <property name="jvmRoute" value="node1"/> </system-properties> At http:// localhost/myapp the application is accessible but the java-session is not build up correctly. Consequently the authentication is not working. The funny thing is, that everything is working if I turn off one JBoss-instance. As I have tried a couple of settings already, I am thankful for any further suggestions.

    We are running a number of ASP.NET applications on W2K3 Server and IIS 6.0, and are looking for a way to be able to monitor ASP.NET session state variables (InProc) that are stored in memory. We are thinking there may be some memory optimization opportunities with some of these session state variables potentially consuming large amounts of RAM. Is there a way to accomplish this through IIS or Windows rather than instrumenting all of the individual Web apps with code to monitor the session state variables?

    I recently upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.9. on snow leopard i was able to make time machine backups over the network to my nas, i think i had to tweak some settings but i dont recall what i did. now that i upgraded to mavericks, i cannot do backups to my nas using time machine. my question is, what do i have to do to allow time machine backups over the network in 10.9? i tried looking for solutions online but did not find anything relating to mavericks.

  • Secretary cannot add appointments to boss's calendar after exchange restore from backup

    The calendar is the Boss's calendar on Exchange. I have set permissions for it through his Outlook to give the secretary and a few other people "Editor" access to his calendar. All the editors can view the calendar, but only he can add new appointments. Anyone else who tries to add an appointment gets "The item cannot be saved in this folder. The folder was deleted or moved or you do not have permission." The permissions are correct, editor. The item hasn't been deleted or moved. It's in his mailbox on exchange. The message says something about the mailbox size, but he is well under the size limit anyway. He is using Outlook 2003, and I have tried accessing it from 2003 and 2007, but I don't think that is related I tried clearing the forms cache and enabling disabled items: no disabled items and clearing cache didn't help. I also tried "Allow all forms" but this apparently doesn't apply in this scenario as we are not using any custom forms. Is there any way to delete just his calendar and then I can exmerge it back in (after exporting to PST of course)? I really can't exmerge out his mailbox, delete it, and exmerge it back in because he works all sorts of hours, but if this is the only way, then I'll have to do it. Is there any other possible solution?

    Hi, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a usb stick in persistent install mode. So I could boot the laptop or my desktop computer with the stick, at boot time. Once I needed the 8GB stick for another purposes so I thought about coyping it to my desktop doing from mac os x: dd if=/dev/disks3s of=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy Now I am trying to do the opposite, after having used the stick, which was formatted to NTFS, just doing dd if=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy of=/dev/disks3s but although I can see that almost of the files are there, I can not boot again. IT is also strange the the file permissions are kind of strange, something like _user What can I do ? Thanks

    I'm trying to issue a remote mysqldump command, redirect stdout to a dmp file, then tar that up. I'm a bit confused as to how to do the redirection bits over ssh: i.e. ssh [email protected] mysqldump $dbname -u admin -p > dbdump.dmp && tar cvzf dbdump.tar.gz dbdump.dmp Issues: 1) I'm not providing the password because I want it to prompt me. Will an ssh remote command deal with this? 2) What's the deal with the syntax? Do I want to use quotations, or don't I? What happens with the redirects and pipes? Do those have to be escaped or formatted in some special fashion.

  • Constant CMS Session Expiry On 1&1 Cloud Server?

    I have a couple of 1&1's 'Dynamic Cloud Servers' and running Win2008R2 and they are setup as web servers, I have a number of Umbraco CMS installs on them and they have been running fine for over a year. On Saturday on BOTH servers, a very strange thing happened - As soon as I login to the CMS/Umbraco admin I am logged out with about 5 seconds? It's as if my session expires the moment I login? I have checked everything I can as I'm not really a server admin, and everything seems to be exactly as it was last week? Like I say this has happened EXACTLY the same time (Saturday) on TWO different servers? I'm just looking for ideas of what I should be looking for? Also the front end of the sites seem fine... Its only the backend when I login. I have gone to 1&1 about this, and as usual they have washed their hands saying its nothing to do with them - When I am certain it is. How can this happen on two different servers, and affect the same sites in exactly the same way? Any help, tips, things to try would be greatly appreciated.

  • Make BIND use DHCP DNS as backup

    I run BIND locally on my OS X machine, to enable wildcard Apache vhosts, which requires setting the DNS server for all network interfaces to 127.0.0.1. This works great, but means when I am on a network which uses an internal DNS server to route special (i.e. .companyname) URLs to a server on the network, the lookup fails. I tried adding both 127.0.0.1 and the DHCP provided DNS server, but this doesn't work either. Is there a way to make BIND use the DHCP DNS server for requests it cannot resolve locally?

We use SqlStateServer to store the Session of the user. right now we are doing performance tuning in our application, so we decided to cache the static Content(images, css, js) for the applicaiton. so that it loads faster. Is it Good to cache the static content in Sticky Session ? If it's good, then can any one give me some links where i can read about it. right now i done following settings in my web config file <staticContent> <clientCache cacheControlCustom="public" cacheControlMode="UseMaxAge" cacheControlMaxAge="500.00:00:00" /> </staticContent> can this is the good code ? will it not affect our sticky session environment ? my goal is to cache the static images, css, Js for the application

I've extracted a working disk from a RAID1 and I'm looking to copy only data (FS and RAID configuration doesn't matter) into another location (another FS). My problem is I'm not able to mount properly this disk into another linux.
