    Could someone point me to some (recent) documentation that would help me with decoding PAM configuration file lines like this: auth [success=2 default=ignore] pam_unix.so nullok_secure auth [success=1 default=ignore] pam_winbind.so krb5_auth krb5_ccache_type=FILE cached_login try_first_pass I'm trying to get my Ubuntu box (testing 10.04 Server Beta 2) to use Active Directory, and the last step is to get PAM on the unix box to work, but I'm wary about making changes (and locking myself out) without understanding how to merge what I'm reading here with what ubuntu has implemented.

  • How to Install Python Modules on Web Server?

    Im running a python cgi script in the cgi-bin directory which uses the sqlite3 module. I run it and it says that it does not recognize the name.. So how do I install this module or other modules on the server hosted by networksolutions? Python documentation has this: python setup.py install --home=<dir> but I have no idea where or how I would run that line. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Ericsson W35 ssh administration

    I picked up a Ericsson W35 at a pawn shop the other day and when I login to the administration section at 192.168.1.1 I get an error message about connecting to the database. It apparently supports ssh administration and I get a password prompt when attempting to ssh [email protected] but no passwords I try work and theres no documentation for it. Has anyone had success with ssh on the Ericsson W35 and is this issue fixable? Thanks.

    Does anybody know or have a link to documentation on how the Power Manager of Windows, determines to go to the ACPI power states S1-S4? Are there any settings that can be configured? I know that by default states S1-S3 are disabled in Vista and later (they can be enabled by a group policy). Can Windows cycle through these states while for instance an application is actively running?

  • Strict security and virtual host isolation with Nginx?

    I currently have an Apache web server set up under which each virtual host is isolated using HTTPD-ITK and the AppArmor module. Each virtual host's workers are setuid/setgid by the server and are then placed in an AppArmor profile. I'm looking to use Nginx but I can't find any documentation on setting it up so that rather than the worker processes being shared between all virtual hosts, worker processes are per virtual host (and thus can be setuid / setgid). Is there any way to do this under Nginx?

The documentation I've been thus far say to do the following: sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_backup But I don't see the xorg.conf file anywhere... Am I missing something? Where is this located?

  • BES 5.0 SSL Certificate

    I have recently installed BES 5.0 on a Hyper-V (i know it's not officially supported) 64-bit Server 2008 box with a remote SQL 2005 database. I successfully installed and was able to access the Blackberry Administration Service but was getting untrusted certificate errors so I followed the documentation for importing CA and BAS certificates with the Java keytool. They imported successfully but now the BAS webpage shows a "page cannot be displayed" error. TSupport is no help at all. Any ideas?

    I have some tool-less slide rails for some 1ru x4150 sun servers. I can't seem to see how to remove them. Sun in their wisdom did not include this seemingly important information in their documentation; they simply (possibly with a cheeky smile) say to... "Refer to the (long since lost) installation card included with the rackmount kit for instructions on attaching tool-less slide-rail assemblies to the rack." So if anyone knows please let me know.

  • SQL Server High Availability - Mirroring with MSCS?

    I'm looking at options for high-availability for my SQL Server-powered application. The requirements are: HA protection from storage failure. Data accessibility when one of the DB servers is undergoing software updates (e.g. planned outage for Windows Update / SQL Server service-packs). Must not involve much in the way of hardware procurement. The application is an ASP.NET web application. The web application's users have their own database instances. I've seen two main options: SQL Server failover clustering, and SQL Server mirroring. I understand that SQL Server Failover Clustering requires the purchasing of a shared disk array and doesn't offer any protection if the shared storage goes down (so the documentation recommends to set up a Mirroring between two clusters). Database Mirroring seems the cheaper option (as it only requires two database servers and a simple witness box) - but I've heard it doesn't work well when you have a large number of databases. The application I'm developing involves giving each client their own database for their application - there could be hundreds of databases. Setting up the mirroring is no problem thanks to the automation systems we have in place. My final point concerns how failover works with respect to client connections - SQL Server Failover Clustering uses MSCS which means that the cluster is invisible to clients - a connection attempt might fail during the failover, but a simple reconnect will have it working again. However mirroring, as far as I know, requires that the client be aware of the mirrored partners: if the client cannot connect to the primary server then it tries the secondary server. I'm wondering how this work with respect to Connection Pooling in ASP.NET applications - does the client connection failovering mean that there's a potential 2-second (assuming 2000ms TCP timeout policy) pause when the connection pool tries the primary server on every connection attempt? I read somewhere that Mirroring can be used on top of MSCS which means that the client does not need to be aware of mirroring (so there wouldn't be any potential delays during connection, and also that no changes would need to be made to the client, not even the connection string) - however I'm finding it hard to get documentation or white papers on this approach. But if true, then it means the best method is then Mirroring (for HA) with MSCS (for client ignorance and connection performance). ...but how does this scale to a server instance that might contain hundreds of mirrored databases?

I've added the user to the psaadm group, as the documentation indicates, as well as the swkey-data group, as I was getting access denied for that dir. I am using sudo to run the command as that user: sudo -u mcp /usr/local/psa/bin/subscription --info test.com But I am receiving this error: Unable to connect to database: get_admin_password() failed: file_get_contents() failed: Suggestions?

  • Setting up a very mixed Active Directory network to work with PowerShell Remote Administration

    Summary: I want to be able to monitor the computers on my network, but don't need it to be automated. We're too small to purchase anything like MOM, but too big to do anything manually (~100 machines in two locations). I just keep running into issues, and was wondering if there's a master list of Group Policy settings I can distribute to my environment to get Remote Powershell working. Environment: Our AD network is pretty mixed. The end users have XP SP3, Win 7, and Win 7 x64. The servers include Win2k3 SP2, Win2k8, Win2k8 x64, Win2k8 R2, and Win2k8 R2 x64. Details: I'm trying to get it to work with Remote Powershell, but I run into errors like the following: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot process the request. Default authentication may be used with an IP address under the following conditions: the transport is HTTPS or the destination is in the TrustedHosts list, and explicit credentials are provided. Use winrm.cmd to configure TrustedHosts. Note that computers in the TrustedHosts list might not be authenticated. For more information on how to set TrustedHosts run the following command: winrm help config. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic. + CategoryInfo : OpenError: (:) [], PSRemotingTransportException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PSSessionStateBroken Then I go to the computer (Win2k3 SP2 server) and run winrm quickconfig per the recommendations via google, and it says: Make these changes [y/n]? y WinRM has been updated to receive requests. WinRM service started. WSManFault Message = The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request. Verify that the service on the destination is running and is accepting requests. Consult the logs and documentation for the WS-Management service running on the destination, most commonly IIS or WinRM. If the destination is the WinRM service, run the following command on the destination to analyze and configure the WinRM service: "winrm quickconfig". Error number: -2144108526 0x80338012 The client cannot connect to the destination specified in the request. Verify that the service on the destination is running and is accepting requests. Consult the logs and documentation for the WS-Management service running on the destination, most commonly IIS or WinRM. If the destination is the WinRM service, run the following command on the destination to analyze and configure the WinRM service: "winrm quickconfig". That's right. It tells me to remedy my winrm quickconfig failure by running winrm quickconfig. I don't want to band-aid this project one google search at a time. I'm sure there is a step-by-step tutorial out there on how to set up a network for powershell remote administration. Does anyone know of one? Books are acceptable. Thanks in advance! I'm confused as to whether this device can act as a IPSEC VPN server, or if it can only act as the client in a Site-Site VPN.   • how to tune libstdc++ to the native architecture when building gcc

    I recently found that when I build my C++ software, I get about a 10% speedup by using the g++ march=native option. When compiling gcc and libstc++, is it possible to tune the libstdc++ library to the native architecture as well? I couldn't find any mention of this in the gcc install configuration documentation. (I'm building gcc 4.6.2 on Linux Mint 11 with an Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge-E processor.)

  • Webmin Cluster Copy Protocol

    Just toying with a clustered server farm for fun (as you do) and experimenting with Webmin and its 'clustered' modules. It has a feature that can copy files from one server to another on a repeating basis. Does this feature/module use cron jobs and what protocol does it use to copy the files? I have searched all about the net and yet I cannot find any decent documentation on webmin or its features. Is it just poorly documented or am I missing something?

    Using Ubuntu 12.04, are there any differences between installing Apache httpd using sudo apt-get install apache2 (as the guide of Ubuntu says - https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/httpd.html ) or following the steps on the Apache documentation (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/install.html#overview)? I tried both ways; in the first case (using apt-get) the server seems to work - I open a browser page and I got it. In the second case I need other packages (apr, apr-util and pcre) and so I abandoned the attempt.

  • Windows API BackupRead failing with error 50 on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

    We have a backup application that uses the Windows API BackupRead. It works correctly on Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2. It does not work on Storage Server 2008 R2. It always fails with error 50 - The request is not supported. The documentation for BackupRead gives no indication that it will not work with Storage Server 2008 R2. Anyone else have any experience using this API on Storage Server 2008 R2?
