  Hi, I have been busy creating an app for Red5. Imagine what was my surprise when I tried to configure basic/digest authentication and I couldn't. What struck me as strange is that I have a running tomcat instance that works and authenticates correctly with the following xmls: web.xml (part of) <security-constraint> <web-resource-collection> <web-resource-name>A Protected Page</web-resource-name> <url-pattern>/stats.jsp</url-pattern> </web-resource-collection> <auth-constraint> <description/> <role-name>tomcat</role-name> </auth-constraint> </security-constraint> <login-config> <auth-method>DIGEST</auth-method> <realm-name>BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA</realm-name> </login-config> <security-role> <description/> <role-name>tomcat</role-name> </security-role> and a tomcat-users.xml in /conf that looks kinda like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <tomcat-users> <role rolename="tomcat"/> <user username="ide" password="bogus" roles="tomcat"/> </tomcat-users> The annoying thing is that configuration authenticates correctly when on tomcat's servlet container, but on the red5's modified one, it just keeps asking for authentication. Am I becoming mad or it should work like a charm? Red5 is version 0_9_1 The stats.jsp is accessible in both servlet containers, the only difference is that when you input the correct password and username in tomcat, you are logged in, and in red5 you are not, it just keeps asking you for the password. Any pointers? Am I missing something? • Lazy load pages in UIScrollView

  I have a UIScrollView that contains large images and am using paging to scroll between images. In order to save memory, I am loading only one image before and after the currently visible one and loading/releasing new images after a scroll has completed. The problem occurs when one scrolls quickly and scrollViewDidEndDecelerating is not called. How can I detect continuous scrolling? I could check item location on every scrollViewDidScroll but this seems a bit heavy...

• Booking form works but does not give feedback

  I have a form where people can book seats for a given event. It's actually a WordPress plugin. When someone sends his booking, email notifications are sent properly and the event booking status is updated accordingly. The issue is that the booking form does not give any feedback whatsoever. Once you hit "book now", the graphic keeps loading and no feedback is ever displayed like for instance "booking sent successfully" or "there are errors in your form", even though the booking is saved correctly with both sides notified by email. • JavaScript Resource Management Design Pattern

  As a web developer, a common problem I find myself tackling is waiting for something to load before doing something else. In particular, I often hide (using either display: none; or visibility: hidden; depending on the situation) elements while waiting for a background image or a CSS file to load. Consider this example from Last.FM. They overlay a semi-transparant PNG over each album art image so that it looks like it's inside a jewel-case. They let it load when it loads, so depending on your internet speed, you may see the art image by itself (without the overlay) temporarily. In this case, the album art looks fine without the jewel-case effect. But in similar situations, I have found that I don't want the user to see the site's design mangled as resources incrementally load. So, in rare cases I have hidden everything from the user until the whole kit and kaboodle has loaded. But this is often a pain to write out, and may force the user to wait for a pretty long time to see anything (besides "loading..." text). I can think of (and have used on occasion) some obvious solutions/compromises: Use some inline CSS so that as certain parts of the DOM load and render, they will immediately have the correct size/position/etc. Immediately render the navigation part of the site, so that if the user wanted to use the current page purely to get somewhere else, they don't have to wait for the rest to load. Load pixelated images first as placeholders for layout while lazy-loading higher quality images as replacements. Something quirky like using a cute animated gif to distract the user during a "loading..." phase. Show useful information as a reference while loading the full UI. (Something akin to Gmail Inbox Preview, etc.) (Sorry if my question was basically just asked and answered...) Despite all of these ideas, I still find myself hoping there are better ways of doing some of these things. So I guess what I'm looking for is some inspiration and/or any creative ways of dealing with this problem that you guys may have seen out in the wild.

• Embedded Windows Media Player background image

I would like to know if its possible to have a background image saying 'Stand by loading video' with my logo on it before the video starts to play. • AS3 Flex masks with black background from png bitmap

  Hi all What I am trying to achieve might be trivial, however I am loading a PNG mask which does not have a transparent background, but rather a black background, with the shape defined on top in white (the actual mask which needs to be applied). Apparently Flex expects me to provide a mask with a transparent background for it to work, or am I missing something? If that's the case, could I transform the bitmapData which I am loading so that it treats black color as transparent? thanks in advance.

• Segment a CGImage

  Hi, In iOS 4.0 and later is there a way to segment a CGImage without loading the entire image into memory? What I am attempting to do is * programmatically* segment an image for use in a CATiledLayer application using large images, but I don't want to take up the memory involved in loading the full image. Also, is there a way to load that (or any) segment at a particular resolution, so if we are zoomed out from the image we can load that tile at a low level of detail, thus saving memory. • How to Fix my jQuery code in IE?? Works in Firefox..

  I am using jQuery to show/hide a div container (#pluginOptionsContainer), and load a page (./plugin_options.php) inside it with the required POST vars sent. What POST data is sent is based on the value of a select list (#pluginDD) and the click of a button (#pluginOptionsBtn)... It works fine in Firefox, but doesn't work in IE.. The '$("#pluginOptionsContainer").load()' request never seems to finish in IE - I only see the loading message forever... bind(), empty() and append() all seem to work fine in IE.. But not load().. • php connecting to mysql server(localhost) very slow

  actually its little complicated: summary: the connection to DB is very slow. the page rendering takes around 10 seconds but the last statement on the page is an echo and i can see its output while the page is loading in firefox (IE is same). in google chrome the output becomes visible only when the loading finishes. loading time is approximately the same across browsers. on debugging i found out that its the DB connectivity that is creating problem. the DB was on another machine. to debug further. i deployed the DB on my local machine .. so now the DB connection is at 127.0.0.1 but the connectivity still takes long time. this means that the issue is with APACHE/PHP and not with mysql. but then i deployed my code on another machine which connects to DB remotely.and everything seems fine. basically the application uses couple of mod_rewrite.. but i removed all the .htaccess files and the slow connectivity issue remains.. i installed another APACHE on my machine and used default settings. the connection was still very slow. i added following statements to measure the execution time $stime = microtime(); $stime = explode(" ",$stime); $stime = $stime[1] + $stime[0]; // my code -- it involves connection to DB $mtime = microtime(); $mtime = explode(" ",$mtime); $mtime = $mtime[1] + $mtime[0]; $totaltime = ($mtime - $stime); echo $totaltime; the output is 0.0631899833679 but firebug Net panel shows total loading time of 10-11 seconds. same is the case with google chrome i tried to turn off windows firewall.. connectivity is still slow and i just can't quite find the reason.. i've tried multiple DB servers.. multiple apaches.. nothing seems to be working.. any idea of what might be the problem?

However, document.ready() has only provided me with limited success. How can I ensure that all ajax requests are completed before executing the code to hide the loading animation? Thanks!

  Hi. After migrating my app to .NET 4 it's not starting. When i'm trying to load it in browser it endlessly loading it and nothing else happening. There is no errors or timeouts, just loading. Please help. What should i do? What reasons there might be? I'm using IIS6 btw.

  I load scripts using luaL_loadfile and then lua_pcall from my game, and was wondering if instead of loading them into the global table, I could load them into a table named after their filename? For example: I have I file called "Foo.lua", which contains this: function DoSomething() --something end After loading it I want to be able to access it like: Foo.DoSomething() Thanks!
