• How to remove IIS/ASP.NET Response Headers

  I have a couple IIS/6.0 servers that security is asking me to remove a couple of response headers that are sent to client browsers on requests. They are concerned about divulging platform information through response headers. I have removed all the HTTP-HEADERS out of the IIS configuration for the website (X-Powered-By or some such header). (I personally do know that this information can be easily found out, even if it is hidden, but it isn't my call.) Headers I want to remove: Server - Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-AspNet-Version - 2.0.50727 I also know that ASP.NET MVC also emits its own header too, if you know how to remove it also, that would be helpful. • Fonts doesn't render in Chrome or IE in Windows Server 2008

  When I visit, for example, http://www.bolagsverket.se from a user account on this Windows 2008 Server, Chrome displays the site but all the text is gone. When I try in IE it's even worse, it doesn't even load the page, I jsut end up with this: http://dl.pixelstore.se/image/0y1f0y0w1J39 The fonts used for this site is (from CSS): font-family:Frutiger,Frutiger Linotype,Univers,DejaVu Sans Condensed,Liberation Sans,Nimbus Sans L,Geneva,Helvetica Neue,Helvetica,Arial,Tahoma,sans-serif If I edit the CSS through Chrome Developer Tools, and erase all fonts until Arial it suddenly works. The strange thing is that everything works fine from the administrator account, it's just (all) the user accounts that doesn't work. My guess is that Chrome/IE is asking for the fonts but somehow they are restricted in the user account. Instead of just ignoring the fonts they can't find they try to render them anyway. Any clue?

  Hi all, I have a terminal server, with a bunch of users running MS Office 2007 std in. Some of them have recently been asking for better multilanguage support. Since I'm in a select agreement, I've gone into the Volume Licensing Service Center and downloaded the following three ISOs: Office Multilanguage Packs 2007 (DVD) Office Multilanguage Packs 2007 (CD) Office Multilanguage Pack 2007 Service Pack 1 But having mounted the ISOs in my RDS host, I still can't install anything they contain. I am quite probably doing something wrong, or maybe I need to be running Office pro version? please F1

  Hello, I wanted to ask if let's say that Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows Server 2003 now so there is no any security updates and I use that system for Domain Controller (Windows XP/7 Professional Clients) and File Server only + I'm using ESET NOD23 AntiVirus. Will my system be secure? I'm asking because I don't surf internet on that system nor I will install/open any programs/documents and that server is connected to router without any open ports. "On July 14, 2015, all Windows 2003 support, including security updates and security-related hotfixes, will be terminated."

• Is there such a thing as "server sliding" (or similar), and if so, what is it?

  I am not a network engineer, but rather a translator, so I apologize in advance if this is a rather obvious question to some of you. Normally Google can answer my questions, but in this case I'm coming up blank. If I'm asking this in the wrong forum, please let me know. The text is talking about RADIUS accounting functionality. It says that when there are many (more than 200) authenticated terminals, if a command is issued to forcibly clear the terminals, "sliding to the next RADIUS accounting server may occur" -- the original text literally says "RADIUS accounting server-slide". I think I can basically understand what they are getting at in terms of meaning, but I would like to know whether this is the correct expression to use. I get the impression from my inability to find it simply by Googling that perhaps it's described differently in English.

• Should root ever own files in my (linux) home directory?

  This question started off asking why my history file wasn't working properly. Then I noticed it was -rw------- 1 root root and hadn't been updated since 2012-09-11. I changed the ownership, problem fixed. But now I see some other files are owned by root: .gitconfig .pearrc .viminfo Can I safely change them to be owned by my normal user, not root? I'm scratching my head trying to work out if there is a downside, or a security consequence. Losing seven weeks history is actually quite painful, because I lean on it a lot (e.g. to remind how I last did an archive). Would it be reasonable to set up a cron job to email me if it finds any files in my home directory owned by anyone else but me? Rephrased: is there ever a good reason for root to own a file in my home directory?

  Hi all, I'm trying to deploy a Snort box in my LAN. I have a Linksys SRW248G4 and trying to configure Port mirroring so that Snort can listen everything on the network in promiscuous mode. So in ADMIN / Port Mirroring, I have 3 things: Source Port (e1,...e48, g1...g4) Type (Rx, Tx, Both) Target (e1...e48, g1...g4) Last time I played with it, I killed all traffic on the switch, I had to reboot it several times... so now I'm asking question before: Do I need to configure each Source Port (from 1 to 48) to forward to the single promiscuous port ? 48 rules !? • Two Routers - 1 Port Straight to First Router

  At my house we have two Wifi routers one's connected directly to the modem and the other is plugged in down stairs as a second network(Directly connected to the first router) Is there a way that I could make it so that I have the second router have its own network, but have one or two ports that would act as if they were directly connected to the first router? That way I can port forward to devices on the second router. Here are the information about the routers: Router 1 - Linksys WRT54G Running stock firmware Router 2 - Linksys E900 Running Tomato Firmware So to summarize what I'm asking is how would I have two networks from two routers but be able to connect directly to the first router through one of the ports on the second router. • OSX Time Machine: deletion of backup folders

  I saw this question and was hoping that someone could expand upon the chosen answer (which I understood): Can you sudo mv Time Machine backup files as sudo from the trash to their original locations? I have tried doing this as root to no avail (operation not permitted). If not, can you successfully rm them via the trash via the terminal, faster than what the endless 'preparing to empty the trash' dialog suggests, and If you get the files back out of the trash can you tell if they are intact via disk utility (and how) Can you force indexing on a Time Machine drive in the same way that you would a normal drive to rebuild the TM index? I realize that a single answer could clarify all of the above, but I wanted to include details to be clear on what I am asking. Thanks for any help.

• How do I force .htaccess authorization to occur over ssl?

  I'm trying to force a particular directory to require only allowed IPs and a valid username/password through basic authorization. To ensure that the username/password are sent in encrypted form, I want the directory to also force SSL use.   I've got a lot of computers on the domain here that do not have remote desktop enabled. I can open the command prompt and do this command: REG.exe ADD \\[the machine im doing this to]\HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\\"Terminal Server" /v fDenyTSConnections /t REG_DWORD /d 0 and it works perfectly fine, except for one thing - it makes a prompt asking if I'm sure I want to do this, Yes/No. How would I go about having a batch file auto-answer YES to this, so I don't have to type it every time? It wouldn't be a problem if it was just a couple hundred machines, but there's plenty more than that and it would take a while to do this by hand. Not to mention I might have to sweep a few times to make sure every computer is turned on and is affected by this.

• What is the harm in giving developers read access to application server application event logs?

  I am a developer working on an ASP.NET application. The application writes logging messages to the Windows event log - a custom application log just for this application. However, I do not have any access to testing or staging web/application servers. I thought an admin could just give me read access to this event log to help in debugging problems (currently a service that is working in dev is not working in test environment and I have no idea why) but that is against my client's (I'm a consultant) policy. I feel silly to keep asking an admin to look at the event log for me. What is the harm in giving developers read access to application server application event logs? Is there a different method of application logging that sysadmins prefer programmers use? Surely, admins don't want to be fetching logging messages for developers all the time.

  Is there a tool or script or some other way of knowing what computer name a specific user is currently logged on to? Or even was logged on to? Say the user "HRDrone" is working on his machine whose hostname is "HRStation01". I, sitting at my sysadmin desk, only know that the username is "HRDrone". Any way i can find out that he is logged on to "HRStation01" without asking the user? AD event viewer? anything? Thanks!

• Software for scanning installation process?

  I forgot what is the name of the very good software which make some kind of restore point (save registry, and program files folder, etc...) before installing any software. After you install some program (ie "Notepad++") you can easily see what registry data use new installed program, on what location are the file's is stored and many more. The reason that I'm asking for help is that I have to automate some installation of public software, so after installation I need to uninstall it, so i have to delete all junk files. The software is called something like install wizard, or wizard install I forgot. If you have any idea of other application that do same thing , or you know exactly name of that software, or you have some good idea how to solve easy solve many installation and uninstallation, please let me know. • Problem with kickstart

  Hi, I created a kickstart file ks.cfg and then I have put that in the bootable disk*(Ubuntu 10.04)* and then added the following line to the isolinux.cfg linux ks=ks.cfg and have not removed any other lines from the isoconfig.cfg file and then while installing the installation is not automated,again it is asking for language and all. If i removed include menu.cfg or any other line from isolinux.cfg i am getting a boot error. What should i do now to automate the installation.Where should i add the boot parameters so that installation will start from the ks.cfg . Thanks and Regards Ravi Kumar

  I'm having the following issue on a host using Apache 2.2.22 + PHP 5.4.0 I need to provide the file /home/server1/htdocs/admin/contents.php when a user makes the request: http://server1/admin/contents, but I obtain this message on the server error_log. Negotiation: discovered file(s) matching request: /home/server1/htdocs/admin/contents (None could be negotiated) Notice that I have mod_negotiation enabled and MultiViews among the options for the related virtualhost: <Directory "/home/server1/htdocs"> Options Indexes Includes FollowSymLinks MultiViews Order allow,deny Allow from all AllowOverride All </Directory> I also use mod_rewrite, with the following .htaccess rules: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^([^\./]*)$ index.php?t=$1 [L] </IfModule> It seems very strange, but on the same box with PHP 5.3.6 it used to work correctly. I'm just trying an upgrade to PHP 5.4.0, but I cannot solve this negotiation issue. Any idea on why Apache cannot match contents.php when asking for content (which should be what mod_negotiation is supposed to do)?

• I need a few minutes of dedicated server a week, but not for hosting, just to convert ogg etc.

  I'm completely happy with my webhosting, it's just that I need to do one little thing they won't allow, and that's run an instance of Sox to convert about 30 mp3s to ogg files, in various directories, a couple of times a week, to be done automatically in response to the detection of the upload of an mp3. Probably looking at a minute of server time over the whole week. I've had unhelpful suggestions on other forums like "why not leave your home PC on 24 hours a day and then use all your isp bandwidth to do this", which doesn't work for me. I know that I can host files on, say, Amazon S3, but is there something similar for my needs? All it would need to do would be: wget/ftp the mp3 files, convert them to ogg, ftp the files back to my hosting. Of course, all this wouldn't be needed if there was such a thing as a compiled binary of Sox (or any mp3ogg converter) for Centos which I could upload without needing root access, but I've given up asking that one, but always open to suggestions!

  Hi Folks, For someone with so much Java experience, boy do I feel clueless - thanks in advance for your help in my grocking the present (Feb, 2010) JSP environment. Here's what I am hoping to learn: Do I understand correctly that most people use Apache to "front-end" their Tomcat servers, such that Apache "talks" directly to web clients and "proxies" Tomcat servers? Do I understand correctly that Apache isn't capable of serving JSP directly but requires a server (like Tomcat)? Is there an RPM package for Fedora Core so I don't have to build one myself? Or, does Fedora Core's package installer do a good job on this one from source code? (Some do, some don't!) While I'm here asking questions; Does Tomcat come with a working example that one can start hacking on as a way to get started quickly? If not, got a good suggestion? Thanks folks, RT

What does he gain by posting (with disturbing frequency) all those, well... posts (I find the term "tweets" disgusting). What is a "follower" supposed to get from these posts? I know many of you are thinking, "Just don't use it!". Yes, I know I don't have to use it, but it's like asking me not to look at the space shuttle that just crashed in my front yard. • How to open Total Commander with specific group of tabs open?

  In TotalCommander I have saved the open tabs on the left and on the right windows in a *.tab file. But I want to put the *.tab file on my desktop and doubleklick it and TC (which is not already running) should open with just those tabs. And I could have different *.tc files on my desktop then. I remember this worked before? If so how can I fix it or change a setting? (I know I can open them again from inside TotalCommander as seen in the picture but that's not what I am asking for here.)

  I am trying to see if OpenAFS fits my needs as a distributed filesystem and is a bit stuck. There are docs but they're all quite hard to understand, so asking for some expert advice here. My questions: which version to install? I need windows client support so I need 1.5 - right? But it is not stable.. Or is it? And don't see any pre-built rpms for it, so compiling from sources? tried to compile and it worked but it created a non-"mp" kernel module while my kernel needs an mp one - how to workaround that? do I really need a new fresh partition to start with or I can re-use an existing one and just make it available via afp? any nice HOWTOs around?

  I have a TP-Link router with DSL service provided by a local company which serves it over the landline phone. My landline cord is plugged into an ethernet router which is then plugged into TP-Link wireless router. I can access internet with this wireless router all over my home with all computers. Landline Cord [into] Ethernet Router [into] TP-Link Wireless Router [air] Computers I would add that landline cord is also into a phone device which I use to make calls and that's not cordless. Now I am accessing internet via WiFi on my laptop and want to ask if is this possible to make landline calls via this same computer I am surfing internet through? What I am asking it to a dial-up via TP-Link router that goes through landline. You see the landline cord is the actual data gateway and is also used to make calls. So it can simultaneously send Data and Voice over the same wire.
