  • Checking if a file is a directory or just a file.

    - by Jookia
    I'm writing a program to check if something is a file or is a directory. Is there a better way to do it than this? #include <stdio.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <dirent.h> #include <errno.h> int isFile(const char* name) { DIR* directory = opendir(name); if(directory != NULL) { closedir(directory); return 0; } if(errno == ENOTDIR) { return 1; } return -1; } int main(void) { const char* file = "./testFile"; const char* directory = "./"; printf("Is %s a file? %s.\n", file, ((isFile(file) == 1) ? "Yes" : "No")); printf("Is %s a directory? %s.\n", directory, ((isFile(directory) == 0) ? "Yes" : "No")); return 0; }

  • Actionscript: How Can I Know When The Source Property Of An Image Is Completely Updated

    - by Joshua
    var I:Image=new Image(); I.source='C:\\Abc.png'; var H:int=I.height; H is always Zero! I am presuming this is because the image hasn't finished reading the png file off the disk yet. What event can I monitor to know when it's width and height will have the right values? The 'Complete' event only seems to work for DOWNLOADED images. The 'Render' event happens EVERY FRAME. The (undocumented?) 'sourceChanged', happens as soon as source changes, and has the same problem! What event do I watch that will let me know when the image's width and height properties will have valid values? Or is there some Synchronous version of I.source='xxx.png', that I don't know about? P.S. Yes, I know I shouldn't use "C:\" in an Air Program. This was just for illustrative purposes, so that you won't suggest I use "Complete", which never even seems to fire when the file indicated by source is local.

  • How to Develop Dynamic Plug-In Based Functionality in C#

    - by Matthew
    Hello: I've been looking around for different methods of providing plug-in support for my application. Ideally, I will be creating a core functionality and based on different customers developing different plug-ins/addons such as importing, exporting data etc... What are the some methods available for making a C# application extensible via a plug-in architecture? Lets make up an example. If we have a program that consists of a main menu ( File, Edit, View, et al. ) along with a TreeView that displays different brands of cars grouped by manufacturer ( Ford, GM, for now). Right clicking on a car displays a context menu with the only option being 'delete car'. How could you develop the application so that plug-ins could be deployed so that you could allow one customer to see a new brand in the TreeView, let's say Honda, and also extent the car context menu so that they may now 'paint a car'? In Eclipse/RCP development this is easily handled by extension points and plug-ins. How does C# handle it? I've been looking into developing my own plug-in architecture and reading up on MEF.

  • What is the nicest way to parse this in C++ ?

    - by ereOn
    Hi, In my program, I have a list of "server address" in the following format: host[:port] The brackets here, indicate that the port is optional. host can be a hostname, an IPv4 or IPv6 address. port, if present can be a numeric port number or a service string (like: "http" or "ssh"). If port is present and host is an IPv6 address, host must be in "bracket-enclosed" notation (Example: [::1]) Here are some valid examples: localhost localhost:11211 127.0.0.1:http [::1]:11211 ::1 [::1] And an invalid example: ::1:80 // Invalid: Is this the IPv6 address ::1:80 and a default port, or the IPv6 address ::1 and the port 80 ? ::1:http // This is not ambigous, but for simplicity sake, let's consider this is forbidden as well. My goal is to separate such entries in two parts (obviously host and port). I don't care if either the host or port are invalid as long as they don't contain a : (290.234.34.34.5 is ok for host, it will be rejected in the next process); I just want to separate the two parts, or if there is no port part, to know it somehow. I tried to do something with std::stringstream but everything I come up to seems hacky and not really elegant. How would you do this in C++ ? I don't mind answers in C but C++ is prefered. Any boost solution is welcome as well. Thank you.

  • Where are possible locations of queueing/buffering delays in Linux multicast?

    - by Matt
    We make heavy use of multicasting messaging across many Linux servers on a LAN. We are seeing a lot of delays. We basically send an enormous number of small packages. We are more concerned with latency than throughput. The machines are all modern, multi-core (at least four, generally eight, 16 if you count hyperthreading) machines, always with a load of 2.0 or less, usually with a load less than 1.0. The networking hardware is also under 50% capacity. The delays we see look like queueing delays: the packets will quickly start increasing in latency, until it looks like they jam up, then return back to normal. The messaging structure is basically this: in the "sending thread", pull messages from a queue, add a timestamp (using gettimeofday()), then call send(). The receiving program receives the message, timestamps the receive time, and pushes it in a queue. In a separate thread, the queue is processed, analyzing the difference between sending and receiving timestamps. (Note that our internal queues are not part of the problem, since the timestamps are added outside of our internal queuing.) We don't really know where to start looking for an answer to this problem. We're not familiar with Linux internals. Our suspicion is that the kernel is queuing or buffering the packets, either on the send side or the receive side (or both). But we don't know how to track this down and trace it. For what it's worth, we're using CentOS 4.x (RHEL kernel 2.6.9).

  • C++ Loop - Need variable to accumulate sum

    - by user1780064
    I'm writing a program to ask the user to enter a value between 5 and 21 (inclusive). If the number entered is not in this range, it prints, "Please try again". If the number is within the range, I need to take that number, and print the sum of all the numbers from 1 to the value entered. So if the user entered "7", the sum would be "28". I successfully wrote the first loop, in the case of the number not being within the range, but cannot figure out how to run the second loop- whether to use a while, do-while, or for loop. Please advise. #include <iostream> int main () { int uservalue; int count; int sum; //Prompt user for input do { cout << "Enter a value from 5 to 21: "; cin >> uservalue; if (uservalue < 5 || uservalue > 21) cout << "Value out of range. Try again..." << endl; } while (uservalue < 5 || uservalue > 21); cout << endl; //Loop to accumulate sum for (count = 1, count < uservalue, count++;) { sum = uservalue + count; if (uservalue <= 5 || uservalue <= 21) cout << the sum is " << sum << endl; } return 0; }

  • "Forced constness" in std::map<std::vector<int>,double> > ?

    - by Peter Jansson
    Consider this program: #include <map> #include <vector> typedef std::vector<int> IntVector; typedef std::map<IntVector,double> Map; void foo(Map& m,const IntVector& v) { Map::iterator i = m.find(v); i->first.push_back(10); }; int main() { Map m; IntVector v(10,10); foo(m,v); return 0; } Using g++ 4.4.0, I get his compilation error: test.cpp: In function 'void foo(Map&, const IntVector&)': test.cpp:8: error: passing 'const std::vector<int, std::allocator<int> >' as 'this' argument of 'void std::vector<_Tp, _Alloc>::push_back(const _Tp&) [with _Tp = int, _Alloc = std::allocator<int>]' discards qualifiers I would expect this error if I was using Map::const_iterator inside foo but not using a non-const iterator. What am I missing, why do I get this error?

  • Reading lines of data from text files using java

    - by razshan
    I have a text file with x amount of lines. each line holds a integer number. When the user clicks a button, an action is performed via actionlistener where it should list all the values as displayed on the text file. However, right now I have linenum set to 10 implying I already told the code that just work with 10 lines of the text file. So, if my text file has only 3 rows/lines of data...it will list those lines and for rest of the other 7 lines, it will spit out "null". I recall there is a way to use ellipsis to let the program know that you don't know the exact value but at the end it calculates it based on the given information. Where my given information will the number of lines with numbers(data). Below is part of the code. private class thehandler implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event){ BufferedReader inputFile=null; try { FileReader freader =new FileReader("Data.txt"); inputFile = new BufferedReader(freader); String MAP = ""; int linenum=10; while(linenum > 0) { linenum=linenum-1; MAP = inputFile.readLine();//read the next line until the specfic line is found System.out.println(MAP); } } catch( Exception y ) { y.printStackTrace(); } }}

  • Creating new image in a loop using OpenCV

    - by user565415
    I am programing some image conversion code with OpenCV and I don't know how can I create image memory buffer to load image on every iteration. I have number of iteration (maxImNumber) and I have an input image. In every loop program must create image that is resized and modified input image. Here is some basic code (concept). for (int imageIndex = 0; imageIndex < maxImNumber; imageIndex++){ cvCopy(inputImage, images[imageIndex], 0); cvReleaseImage(&inputImage); images[imageIndex+1] = cvCreateImage(cvSize((image[imageIndex]->width)/2, image[imageIndex]->height), IPL_DEPTH_8U, 1); for (i=1; i < image[imageIndex]->height; i++) { index = 0; // for(j=0; j < image[imageIndex]->width ; j=j+2){ // doing some basic matematical operation on image content and store it to new image images[imageIndex+1][i][index] = (image[imageIndex][i][j] + image[imageIndex][i][j+2])/2; index++ } } inputImage = cvCreateImage(cvSize((image[imageIndex+1]->width), image[imageIndex]->height), IPL_DEPTH_8U, 1); cvCopy(images[imageIndex+1], inputImage, 0); } Can somebody, please, explain how can I create this image buffer (images[]) and allocate memory for it. Also how can I access any image in this buffer? Thank you very much in advance!

  • Calling arrays from other methods in a different class

    - by Jake H
    Hello, I need help dealing with an array in my java program. in my first class, "test", I set 4 variables and then send them to my other class (test2). arr[i] = new test2(id, fname, lname, case); at that point, variables are set and then I want to return those variables. So in the test2 class, I have a method that strictly returns one of those variables public int getId(){ return id; } I understand this is a little stupid, but professor gets what professor wants I guess. What I want to do now is in my main method in "test" I want to retrieve that variable and sort the array based on that int. Unfortunately, I have to create my own sort function, but I think this would work for what I want to do. for(j = 0; j < arr.length; j++){ int indexMin =j; for(i = j; i < arr.length;i++){ if(arr[i] < arr[indexMin]){ indexMin = i; } } int tmp = arr[j]; arr[j] = arr[indexMin]; arr[indexMin] = tmp; } I appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thank you

  • "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" in image and array storage

    - by totalconscience
    I am currently working on an image processing demonstration in java (Applet). I am running into the problem where my arrays are too large and I am getting the "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" error. The algorithm I run creates an NxD float array where: N is the number of pixel in the image and D is the coordinates of each pixel plus the colorspace components of each pixel (usually 1 for grayscale or 3 for RGB). For each iteration of the algorithm it creates one of these NxD float arrays and stores it for later use in a vector, so that the user of the applet may look at the individual steps. My client wants the program to be able to load a 500x500 RGB image and run as the upper bound. There are about 12 to 20 iterations per run so that means I need to be able to store a 12x500x500x5 float in some fashion. Is there a way to process all of this data and, if possible, how? Example of the issue: I am loading a 512 by 512 Grayscale image and even before the first iteration completes I run out of heap space. The line it points me to is: Y.add(new float[N][D]) where Y is a Vector and N and D are described as above. This is the second instance of the code using that line.

  • How does Crystal Reports Runtime Licensing work?

    - by GluedHands
    I am designing an application in C# and I want to use some Crystal Reports in my application. I am selling this application as freelance to a small business. This is my first program that I have ever sold. I have Crystal Reports 2008 that I am using to design reports with. Do I need to get any kind of licensing from Business Objects to include the Crystal Reports Runtime for report printing in my application? Or do I not need to worry about it as long as I have a licensed version of Crystal Reports 2008 on my development machine. The client would only need be able to print the reports that I have designed on my machine, not design their own. The reports would be saved as a file. The application will load the saved report and print it with provided data. I did see this article which answers the most part of my question. However, it does not include whether it covers loading saved report documents? Any additional related information for a commercial product newbie is gladly appreciated.

  • What Are The Ways to Devide Text in Multi-Column? Need an Overview of Possibilities.

    - by Sam
    Hi folks, From source1 and source2 i gather that IE9 will NOT support multi-column css3!! Since it is still the most popular browser (another thing i cannot understand), i am left but no other choice than to use Programming Power to make multi-columns work. Now, I use three divs that float to left, and which are manually filled with text. Please don't laugh i know its stupid! But I would wish to not to have to worry about the columns and just have a one piece of (un-interrupted) text which all goes into only 1 div, and then have a program smart enough to split it up into X equally wide columns. Question: before i start reinvent the wheel, what methods of programming power have you known that tackle this elegantly? Please suggest your best working multi-column layout sources so I can evaluate which option is the best (I will update the below table). Exploring all possibilities 2011 and further, to enable multi column text user experience: Language Author SourceCodeUsage WorksOnAllMajorBrowser? ================================================================================= html manual labour put text manually in separate left-floating divs "Y" // Upside: control! • How to catch exceptions from processes in C#

    - by kitofr
    I all... I have an acceptance runner program here that looks something like this: public Result Run(CommandParser parser) { var result = new Result(); var watch = new Stopwatch(); watch.Start(); try { _testConsole.Start(); parser.ForEachInput(input => { _testConsole.StandardInput.WriteLine(input); return _testConsole.TotalProcessorTime.TotalSeconds < parser.TimeLimit; }); if (TimeLimitExceeded(parser.TimeLimit)) { watch.Stop(); _testConsole.Kill(); ReportThatTestTimedOut(result); } else { result.Status = GetProgramOutput() == parser.Expected ? ResultStatus.Passed : ResultStatus.Failed; watch.Stop(); } } catch (Exception) { result.Status = ResultStatus.Exception; } result.Elapsed = watch.Elapsed; return result; } the _testConsole is an Process adapter that wraps a regular .net process into something more workable. I do however have a hard time to catch any exceptions from the started process (i.e. the catch statement is pointless here) I'm using something like: _process = new Process { StartInfo = { FileName = pathToProcess, UseShellExecute = false, CreateNoWindow = true, RedirectStandardInput = true, RedirectStandardOutput = true, RedirectStandardError = true, Arguments = arguments } }; to set up the process. Any ideas?

  • How to "pin" C++/CLI pointers

    - by Kumar
    I am wrapping up a class which reading a custom binary data file and makes the data available to a .net/c# class However a couple of lines down the code, i start getting the memory access violation error which i believe is due to the GC moving memory around, the class is managed Here's the code if ( ! reader.OpenFile(...) ) return ; foreach(string fieldName in fields) { int colIndex = reader.GetColIndex( fieldName ); int colType = reader.GetColType( colIndex ); // error is raised here on 2nd iteration } for ( int r = 0 ; r < reader.NumFields(); r++ ) { foreach(string fieldName in fields) { int colIndex = reader.GetColIndex( fieldName ); int colType = reader.GetColType( colIndex ); // error is raised here on 2nd iteration switch ( colType ) { case 0 : // INT processField( r, fieldName, reader.GetInt(r,colIndex) ); break ; .... } } } .... i've looked at interior_ptr, pin_ptr but they give an error c3160 cannot be in a managed class Any workaround ? BTW, this is my 1st C++ program in a very long time !

  • C#. Saving information about events and event handlers and removing handlers using this information

    - by Philipp
    I have an object which is creating several event handlers using lambda expressions, and I need to remove all handlers created in that object in one time. I'm trying to create some unified static object which will 'know' which handler relates to which object and event if event handler was created through this static object. I tried something like code below, but I don't understand how to save events and event handlers objects, to be able remove handlers in one time. class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var EventSender = new EventSender(); var EventReceiver = new EventReceiver(EventSender); EventSender.Invoke(" some var "); LinkSaver.RemoveEvent(EventReceiver); // ?? Console.ReadKey(); } } public class ObjLink{ public object Event; public object Action; } public static class LinkSaver { public static void SetEvent<T>(object obj, Action<T> Event, T Action) { Event(Action); var objLink = new ObjLink{Event = Event, Action = Action}; if (!Links.ContainsKey(obj)) Links.Add(obj, new List<ObjLink>{objLink}); else Links[obj].Add(objLink); } static Dictionary<object,List<ObjLink>> Links = new Dictionary<object, List<ObjLink>>(); public static void RemoveEvent(object obj){ foreach(var objLink in Links[obj]){ // objLink.Event -= objLink.Action; ??? } } } public class EventReceiver { public EventReceiver(EventSender obj) { LinkSaver.SetEvent<EventSender.TestDelegate>(this, obj.SetEvent, str => Console.WriteLine(str + " test event!")); } } public class EventSender { public void Invoke(string var) { if (eventTest != null) eventTest(var); } public void SetEvent(TestDelegate Action) { eventTest += Action; } public delegate void TestDelegate(string var); private event TestDelegate eventTest; // by the way public void RemoveFromEvent() { foreach (var handler in eventTest.GetInvocationList()) eventTest -= (TestDelegate)handler; } }

  • Multiple instances of the same Async task (Windows Phone)

    - by Bart Teunissen
    After googeling for ages, and reading some stuff about async task in books. I made a my first program with an async task in it. Only to find out, that i can only start one task. I want to run the task more then once. This is where i found out that that doesn't seem to work. to be a little bit clearer, here are some parts of my code: InitFunction(var); This is the Task itself public async Task InitFunction(string var) { _VarHandle = await _AdsClient.GetSymhandleByNameAsync(var); _Data = await _AdsClient.ReadAsync<T>(_VarHandle); _AdsClient.AddNotificationAsync<T>(_VarHandle, AdsTransmissionMode.OnChange, 1000, this); } This works like a charm when i execute the task only once.. But is there a possibility to run it multiple times. Something like this? InitFunction(var1); InitFunction(var2); InitFunction(var3); Because if i do this now (multiple tasks at once), the task it wants to start is still running, and it throws an exeption. if someone could help me with this, that would be awesome! ~ Bart

  • How do you convert bytes of bitmap into x, y location of pixels?

    - by Jon
    I have a win32 program that creates a bitmap screenshot. I am trying to figure out the x and y coordinates of the bmBits. Below is the code I have so far: UINT32 nScreenX = GetSystemMetrics(SM_CXSCREEN); UINT32 nScreenY = GetSystemMetrics(SM_CYSCREEN); HDC hdc = GetDC(NULL); HDC hdcScreen = CreateCompatibleDC(hdc); HBITMAP hbmpScreen = CreateDIBSection( hdcDesk, ( BITMAPINFO* )&bitmapInfo.bmiHeader,DIB_RGB_COLORS, &bitmapDataPtr, NULL, 0 ); SelectObject(hdcScreen, hbmpScreen); BitBlt(hdcScreen, 0, 0, nScreenX , nScreenY , hdc, 0, 0, SRCCOPY); ReleaseDC(NULL, hdc); BITMAP bmpScreen; GetObject(hbmpScreen, sizeof(bmpScreen), &bmpScreen); DWORD *pScreenPixels = (DWORD*)bmpScreen.bmBits, UINT32 x = 0; UINT32 y = 0; UINT32 nCntPixels = nScreenX * nScreenY; for(int n = 0; n < nCntPixels; n++) { x = n % nScreenX; y = n / nScreenX; //do stuff with the x and y vals } The code seem correct to me but, when I use this code the x and y values appear to be off. Where does the first pixel of bmBits start? When x and y are both 0. Is that the top left, bottom left, bottom right or top right? Thanks.

  • best practices question: How to save a collection of images and a java object in a single file? File

    - by Richard
    Hi all, I am making a java program that has a collection of flash-card like objects. I store the objects in a jtree composed of defaultmutabletreenodes. Each node has a user object attached to it with has a few string/native data type parameters. However, i also want each of these objects to have an image (typical formats, jpg, png etc). I would like to be able to store all of this information, including the images and the tree data to the disk in a single file so the file can be transferred between users and the entire tree, including the images and parameters for each object, can be reconstructed. I had not approached a problem like this before so I was not sure what the best practices were. I found XLMEncoder (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/beans/XMLEncoder.html) to be a very effective way of storing my tree and the native data type information. However I couldn't figure out how to save the image data itself inside of the XML file, and I'm not sure it is possible since the data is binary (so restricted characters would be invalid). My next thought was to associate a hash string instead of an image within each user object, and then gzip together all of the images, with the hash strings as the names and the XMLencoded tree in the same compmressed file. That seemed really contrived though. Does anyone know a good approach for this type of issue? THanks! Thanks!

  • Preprocessor #define vs. function pointer - best practice?

    - by Dustin
    I recently started a small personal project (RGB value to BGR value conversion program) in C, and I realised that a function that converts from RGB to BGR can not only perform the conversion but also the inversion. Obviously that means I don't really need two functions rgb2bgr and bgr2rgb. However, does it matter whether I use a function pointer instead of a macro? For example: int rgb2bgr (const int rgb); /* * Should I do this because it allows the compiler to issue * appropriate error messages using the proper function name, * not to mention possible debugging benefits? */ int (*bgr2rgb) (const int bgr) = rgb2bgr; /* * Or should I do this since it is merely a convenience * and they're really the same function anyway? */ #define bgr2rgb(bgr) (rgb2bgr (bgr)) I'm not necessarily looking for a change in execution efficiency as it's more of a subjective question out of curiosity. I am well aware of the fact that type safety is neither lost nor gained using either method. Would the function pointer merely be a convenience or are there more practical benefits to be gained of which I am unaware?

  • Efficient update of SQLite table with many records

    - by blackrim
    I am trying to use sqlite (sqlite3) for a project to store hundreds of thousands of records (would like sqlite so users of the program don't have to run a [my]sql server). I have to update hundreds of thousands of records sometimes to enter left right values (they are hierarchical), but have found the standard update table set left_value = 4, right_value = 5 where id = 12340; to be very slow. I have tried surrounding every thousand or so with begin; .... update... update table set left_value = 4, right_value = 5 where id = 12340; update... .... commit; but again, very slow. Odd, because when I populate it with a few hundred thousand (with inserts), it finishes in seconds. I am currently trying to test the speed in python (the slowness is at the command line and python) before I move it to the C++ implementation, but right now this is way to slow and I need to find a new solution unless I am doing something wrong. Thoughts? (would take open source alternative to SQLite that is portable as well)

  • Utilizing a Queue

    - by Nathan
    I'm trying to store records of transactions all together and by category for the last 1, 7, 30 or 360 days. I've tried a couple things, but they've brutally failed. I had an idea of using a queue with 360 values, one for each day, but I don't know enough about queue's to figure out how that would work. Input will be an instance of this class: class Transaction { public string TotalEarned { get; set; } public string TotalHST { get; set; } public string TotalCost { get; set; } public string Category { get; set; } } New transactions can occur at any time during the day, and there could be as many as 15 transactions in a day. My program is using a plain text file as external storage, but how I load it depends on how I decide to store this data. What would be the best way to do this?

  • Easy way to "organize"/"render"/"generate" HTML?

    - by Rockmaninoff
    Hi all, I'm a relative newbie to web development. I know my HTML and CSS, and am getting involved with Ruby on Rails for some other projects, which has been daunting but very rewarding. Basically I'm wondering if there's a language/backbone/program/solution to eliminate the copypasta trivialities of HTML, with some caveats. Currently my website is hosted on a school server and unfortunately can't use Rails. Being a newbie I also don't really know what other technologies are available to me (or even what those technologies might be). I'm essentially looking for a way to auto-insert all of my header/sidebar/footer/menu information, and when those need to be updated, the rest of the pages get updated. Right now, I have a sidebar that is a tree of all of the pages on my website. When I add a page, not only do I need to update the sidebar, I have to update it for every page in my domain. This is really inefficient and I'm wondering if there is a better way. I imagine this is a pretty widespread problem, but searching Google turns up too many irrelevant links (design template websites, tutorials, etc.). I'd appreciate any help. Oh, and I've heard of HAML as a way to render HTML; how would it be used in this situation?

I have to confirm that a bootstrap for a thridparty driver install which is included on our installation cd can be used/included (its a usb security dongle so drivers MUST be included/setup for our app to run). It is in the list of available pre-reqs but i didnt put it in the vs2010 bootstrap folder so is this coming from my vs2005 install? or the fact that i had previously selected it in the installer and its saved/loaded that in vs2010? Either way its got a little error icon and says its not found so i get errors on build. I want to resolve this and have it in the list of available pre-reqs as we did for 2005. i.e. copy it to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper folder... But i cant seem to find where the bootstraps are for vs2010? does it not use them? Naturally ive searched the entire vs folder structure for appropriate files/folders but nothing? Where/How is this now done?
