  • Using ASP.Net 4.0 for new Dev projects

    I am currently in the early stages of developing a couple web applications, I have not written any code yet as I am still just gathering requirements and scoping things out. I want to target ASP.Net 4.0 winforms as the platform for these apps but I want to make sure there are no glaring issues with this new version before I commit. I understand that if I was porting an existing app from 2.0, 3.5 to 4.0 there may be issues but I am starting from scratch on these projects and plan to write these apps to support the new features of 4.0. Should I wait for the first service pack to come out? Just seems like more work to start with 3.5 now only to go back through and tweak things for 4.0 in just a few months or even before I finish the app. Our servers are Win 2K3 with IIS6 and MS SQL 2000, Should I expect any problems with VS 2010 and MS SQL 2000 in regards to Linq to SQL and EF?

  • Convert unstructured SVN folders to trunk/branches style and retain history?

    I have a SVN repository which is currently structured like so: /versions /1.0.0 /1.0.1 /1.0.2 /1.1.0 /(etc) What happened here is that when it was time to start a new release, a team member would make a copy of the previous version's folder and rename that folder; then add/commit that new folder into SVN. As a consequence, all of the revision history for a given version-folder is limited just to changes made in that version-folder. SVN thinks that each file in each version-folder was created anew at the time of version-folder creation. So what I'd like to do is convert this series of folders into a traditional trunk/branches/tag SVN structure. Is it possible to somehow "reconcile" the revision histories of each of these versioned folders back into one common revision-history tree?

  • Outlook AppointmentItem - How do I programmatically add RTF to its Body?

    I would like to set the Body of an AppointmentItem to a string of RTF that contains an embedded image. Setting Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.AppointmentItem.Body results in the RTF appearing as-is in the appointment. I have tried using Redemption which wraps the appointment and exposes an RTFBody property, but the RTF formatting (including the image) is lost. In this example (which doesn't have an embedded image) the RTF appears in the document as-is. I'm looking to start a new project to tinker with in my spare time and I am wondering what interesting data is available to play with. It seems like many api services such as last.fm or google search don't exist or are no longer free. Possible examples of what I am looking for information about a given ip address mapping api's information about books, movies, music information about places, businesses, attractions meteorological, financial or other scientific data shopping, products I would appreciate any suggestions you may have about interesting data freely available through the web. thanks

  • Sliding & Fading controls on a C# form

    Hey there, I'm trying to implement a way to slide&fade controls around (more than one at the same time possibly) elegantly. So in other words, say i had a picture in the top left corner, and a texbox in the bottom right corner, i'd like to be able to have them slide. not just snap. slide, to the opposite corners and replace eachothers position. Ive been working for awhile but have not come up with anything efficient, even just some of the basic math calculations would be a great start.

    Hello, my friend has a Real Estate company that receives a lot of phone calls everyday. He wants to have a solution such that when somebody call to his company, the operator sees all the information about the person who is calling based on the database he have right now and the caller ID. Is there a ready made software or solution that can do the job?? Since I'm a software engineer myself, I would never mind developing something from scratch or built on a ready made system (with a team of course), but I need some direction on how to start??   • Copy an array backwards? Array.Copy?

    I have a List<T> that I want to be able to copy to an array backwards, meaning start from List.Count and copy maybe 5 items starting at the end of the list and working its way backwards. I could do this with a simple reverse for loop; however there is probably a faster/more efficient way of doing this so I thought I should ask. Can I use Array.Copy somehow? Originally I was using a Queue as that pops it off in the correct order I need, but I now need to pop off multiple items at once into an array and I thought a list would be faster.

  • Pattern for iPhone background loading during init?

    Hi everyone, I'm currently kicking off a background thread to do some REST queries in my app delegate's didFinishLaunchingWithOptions. This thread creates some objects and populates the model as the rest of the app continues to load (because I don't block, and didFinishLaunchingWithOptions returns YES). I also put up a loading UIViewController 'on top' of the main view that I tear down after the background initialization is complete. My problem is that I need to notify the first view (call it the Home view) that the model is ready, and that it should populate itself. The trick is that the background download could have finished before Home.viewDidAppear is called, or any of the other Home.initX methods. I'm having difficulty synchronizing all of this and I've thought about it long enough that it feels like I'm barking up the wrong tree. Are there any patterns here for this sort of thing? I'm sure other apps start by performing lengthy operations with loading screens :) Thanks!

  • CFEXCHANGECONNECTION error when username changes.

    We are attempting to connect to an Exchange server through CFEXCHANGECONNECTION on ColdFusion 9 to retrieve email. We can connect with a number of users. However, some users cannot connect. We end up with the following error: Cannot access Exchange server as a web application at <server> It turns out that the users who cannot connect either have a ampersand in there username or they have changed there username with CFLDAP. So, if I perform a CFLDAP on a working user and change the userPrincipalName and sAMAccountName the user will begin getting the error above. If I change it back to what it was to start with, the error will go away. Any ideas? EDIT The ampersand part seems to be misleading. Essentially we found the problem because of the ampersand. However, for working users who did not have an ampersand, the error will begins showing up if their username is changed to something that does not have an ampersand.

  • Google Pie Chart and Bar Chart (both Interactive) not showing labels.

    I'm trying to put Google's BarChart and PieChart both the client side version, and i'm experiencing some problems with the labels over the pie and the labels on the left of the vertical axis (of the bar chart). I checked the code a lot of times and it seems to be like that you can see in the examples. I've tried the same page on Firefox and Chrome and it shows the labels without problems. If i try the examples on IE8 the labels are shown but not in my page. Sincerely I've not any idea where to start to fix this thing. Someone can help me or give me an advice? Thanks in advance.

    Hi! I need to retrieve the name, email and picture from a google account. I am already using the openid to make the user login with it's google acc. Can I have the picture URL from the openid proccess? with OAuth I cant'seem to find the right scope to retrieve this information... See this link: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/docs/directory.html there is a list of scopes that you can fetch with REST api to google and I didnt't see the one related to the profile. Btw, I am using PHP and the openid is already working, but didn't start with the oauth untill I know if I can(and need) retrieve the picture (because email and name already comes within the openid proccess) thanks, Joe

  • MySQL on Windows-7 (64-bit) on 0.0.0.0:3306 rather than 127.0.0.1:3306

    I've just installed the latest production release of MySQL (64-bit) on my Windows 7 box. It was a straight vanilla install, using all defaults; but phpmyadmin can't see it at all. MySQL is configured as a service to start automatically, and I know it's running because the MySQL GUI tools work correctly. Doing a netstat -a, I see TCP 0.0.0.0:3306 Marks-Netbook:0 LISTENING when I'd expect to see TCP 127.0.0.1:3306 Marks-Netbook:0 LISTENING I don't know if this is the reason phpmyadmin can't connect, but suspect that it is probably the case. Can anybody confirm whether this is the likely cause, and/or suggest how I can reso;lve this?

    I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start.     How would I execute a shell script from PHP while giving constant/live feedback to the browser? I understand from the system function documentation: The system() call also tries to automatically flush the web server's output buffer after each line of output if PHP is running as a server module. I'm not clear on what they mean by running it as a 'server module'. I attempted to run the script in the cgi-bin, but either I'm doing it wrong, or that's not what they mean.   • Default controller name is removed on browser refresh (CodeigniterPHP/Nginx issue?)

    For all pages in my codeigniter app except my default controller, when I refresh the browser the url isn't affected as one would expect. However for my default controller, main.php, when when I refresh the browser at "http://localhost/main" or "http://mysite.com/main", the main part is stripped off the url. So the browser bar shows just "http://localhost" or "http://mysite.com". Totally lost on where to start with this but was just wondering if anyone has come across this before...? Here's what I think could be the relevant part of my nginx.conf (if Nginx is the problem). if ($request_uri ~* ^(/main(/index)?|/index(.php)?)/?$) { rewrite ^(.*)$ / permanent; }

  • JNI AttachCurrentThread NULLs the jenv

    Hello all, I'm currently in the process of adding JNI functionality into a legacy delphi app. In a single-threaded environment everything works fine, but as soon as I move into multi-threaded environment, things start to become hairy. My problem is that calling JavaVM^.AttachCurrentThread( JavaVM, @JEnv, nil ); returns 0, but puts the JEnv pointer to nil. I have no idea why jvm.dll should return a NULL pointer.   • How to replicate this screenshot in WebForms?

    I need to replicate the following in ASP.NET WebForms using a GridView. But I am not sure where to start. Basically I need 3 columns. The checkbox (which sometimes needs to be disabled), and 2 standard text columns. I've gone through the tutorial and I can see how to basically dump text data into a GridView, but not clear on how to implement checkboxes, particularly ones that needs to be disabled once in a while. And I have to replicate the style of the screenshot (e.g. border on the bottom). Having trouble with that as well. How do I swing something like that?

    I have created a main page (myAppViewController) and a add page rect button I have also created a page template (TemplateAViewController) all set up in Interface builder. I would like users to be able to add as many templates themselves and then page through them. I am not sure where to start. I can create views programmatic like so -(IBAction)createnewpage : (id) sender { myAppViewController *viewcontroller = [[myAppViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TemplateAViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [[self view] addSubview:viewcontroller.view]; } I then want to be able to navigate through these views- I guess I need to create a navigation controller to do this ?

I graduated college two years ago, and up until now programming has only been a hobby of mine. Recently I decided that I would like to pursue a career in software development. I accepted his offer so that I can gain some real-world experience and start building a portfolio. In about an hour I'm scheduled to meet with the Team Leader to discuss the details of what he needs. From a short e-mail exchange with him, I know that the base project is to update an existing ASP.NET form—but I also think there's more to it than that. Considering that I'd like to eventually put this project in a portfolio, what kinds of notes should I take at the meeting?

    I am using the d3.behavior.zoom to implement panning and zooming on a tree layout, but it is exhibiting a behavior I would describe as bouncing or numeric instability. When you start to drag, the display will inexplicably bounce left or right until it just disappears.   • Inconsistent values in network switch throughput values

    Quite simple, I have a network switch with SNMP, and need to calculate the throughput of the switch port, so simply I use ifOutOctets. We transfer a file which is 145MB and if we use the total from the start, subtracted from the value at the end then the value is : 158901842 I simply can't get the value to match, or be anything similar to what the real transfer is. I understand that there may be excess traffic etc but I just can't get it to be anywhere similar (the server being tested has no traffic when this is not running) We have tried for a long time and suspect there may be an issue with the recording on the HP switch, do you have any suggestions, or how should we be calculating it?   • Magento - Mage::getModel not working on remote server

    I'm struggling with an issue for which I can't find an explanation. I have two development environments that I use for my projects. I created a simple module for Magento and I tested it on one environment. After overcoming all Magento's complications, the module works as expected. This is on XAMPP. I then copied the module to the development Linux environment, on a hosted server, and it crashes miserably. I did some debugging, and I found out that a call to Mage::getModel() returns bool(false) instead of the instance of the Model I requested. I double checked all files and directories, and they match. Database is not involved (not from my side, at least, I don't need tables) and both environments have only me as a User, with Admin permissions. Any suggestion on where should I start looking is welcome, thanks.
