  I have an xml file in a flat structure. We do not control the format of this xml file, just have to deal with it. I've renamed the fields because they are highly domain specific and don't really make any difference to the problem. <attribute name="Title">Book A</attribute> <attribute name="Code">1</attribute> <attribute name="Author"> <value>James Berry</value> <value>John Smith</value> </attribute> <attribute name="Title">Book B</attribute> <attribute name="Code">2</attribute> <attribute name="Title">Book C</attribute> <attribute name="Code">3</attribute> <attribute name="Author"> <value>James Berry</value> </attribute> Key things to note: the file is not particularly hierarchical. Books are delimited by an occurance of an attribute element with name='Title'. But the name='Author' attribute node is optional. Is there a simple xpath statement I can use to find the authors of book 'n'? It is easy to identify the title of book 'n', but the authors value is optional. And you can't just take the following author because in the case of book 2, this would give the author for book 3. I have written a state machine to parse this as a series of elements, but I can't help thinking there would have been a way to directly get the results that I want.

  Hi guys I have an ASP.Net MVC app using Integrated Security that I need to be able grant open access to a specific route. The route in question is '~/Agreements/Upload' and the config I have setup looks like this: <configuration> ... <location path="~/Agreements/Upload"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> ... </configuration> I have tried a few things and nothing has worked thus far. In IIS under Directory Security Authentication Methods I only have "Integrated Windows Authentication" selected. Now this could be part of my problem (as even though IIS allows the above IIS doesn't). But if that's the case how do I configure it so that Integrated Security works but allows people who aren't authenticated to access the given route. Cheers Anthony

• Community License Agreement for Commercial (SaaS) software?

  I've got a commercial SaaS application, an online collaboration/lean project mgmt tool. I want to offer a "Community Edition", with specific limitations on how the software can be used, for free. For example free for groups using it to manage open source projects free to K-12 teachers to use in the classroom free for authors collaborating on Lean/Kanban/AgileSoftwareDevelopment books and research papers. free for community conference organizers, user group organizers, etc. The license would grant use of the software with limitations. The software itself can enforce limitations on the number of users/projects. I'm looking for a license agreement / EULA that I can use to specify what uses the software can be used for (see above). It would restrict the users from using it in different ways, such as for commercial use, managing consulting projects, client work, etc. I've been combing the web for good examples of such agreements, and so far coming up short. Any ideas? To be clear, this would not be an open source license of any kind. It would cover the use of commercial software, for specific "community" uses, as we define them.

• Excel CSV into Nested Dictionary; List Comprehensions

  heya, I have a Excel CSV files with employee records in them. Something like this: mail,first_name,surname,employee_id,manager_id,telephone_number [email protected],john,smith,503422,503423,+65(2)3423-2433 [email protected],george,brown,503097,503098,+65(2)3423-9782 .... I'm using DictReader to put this into a nested dictionary: import csv gd_extract = csv.DictReader(open('filename 20100331 original.csv'), dialect='excel') employees = dict([(row['employee_id'], row) for row in gp_extract]) Is the above the proper way to do it - it does work, but is it the Right Way? Something more efficient? Also, the funny thing is, in IDLE, if I try to print out "employees" at the shell, it seems to cause IDLE to crash (there's approximately 1051 rows). 2. Remove employee_id from inner dict The second issue issue, I'm putting it into a dictionary indexed by employee_id, with the value as a nested dictionary of all the values - however, employee_id is also a key:value inside the nested dictionary, which is a bit redundant? Is there any way to exclude it from the inner dictionary? 3. Manipulate data in comprehension Thirdly, we need do some manipulations to the imported data - for example, all the phone numbers are in the wrong format, so we need to do some regex there. Also, we need to convert manager_id to an actual manager's name, and their email address. Most managers are in the same file, while others are in an external_contractors CSV, which is similar but not quite the same format - I can import that to a separate dict though. Are these two items things that can be done within the single list comprehension, or should I use a for loop? Or does multiple comprehensions work? (sample code would be really awesome here). • How do I represent concurrent actions in jBPM, any of which can end a process?

  An example: a permit must be examined by two lawyers and one engineer. If any of those three reject it, the process enters a "rejected" end state. If all three grant the permit, it enters a "granted" end state. All three examiners may examine simultaneously, or in any order. Once one engineer has granted it, it shouldn't be available to be examined by an engineer; once two lawyers have examined it, it shouldn't be available to lawyers; once one engineer and two lawyers have examined it should go to the granted end state. My initial thinking is that either I have a overly complicated state transition diagram, with "the same" intermediate states multiply repeated, or I carry (external) state with the process { bool rejected; int engineerSignoffId; int lawyer1SignoffId; int lawyer2SignoffId}. Or something like this? If so, how does the engineer's rejection terminate the subprocess that is in "Lawyers"? START->FORK->Engineer->Granted?---------------->Y->JOIN-->Granted |->Lawyers-->Granted?->by 2 lawyers?->Y---^ ^ | |--------------------------N What's the canonical jBPM answer to this? • How to do a javascript redirection to a ClickOnce deployment URL?

  I have a ClickOnce application used to view some documents on a website. When connected, the user sees a list of documents as links to http://server/myapp.application?document=docname. It worked fine until I had to integrate the website authentication/security system into my application. The website uses a ticketing system to grant access to its users. A ticket is generated by a web application and needs to be added to the deployment URL querystring, then I have to check at application startup that the ticket given in querystring was right by making another request to the web application. So the deployment URL becomes something like: h ttp://server/myapp.application?document=docname&ticket=ticketnumber. The problem is the ticket is valid only 10 seconds, so I have to get it only after the user has clicked a link. My first try was to have some javascript do the request to get the ticket, generate the proper deployment URL and then redirect the user to this URL with "window.location = deploymentUrl;". It works fine in Firefox, but IE does not prompt the user for installation. I guess it is a ClickOnce security constraints, but I am able to do the redirection when doing it on localhost, so I hope there is a workaround. I have also added the server on the "trusted sites" list in IE options. Is it possible to have that working in IE? What are my other options to do that?

So, I have a ContentControl defined in XAML like this: <ContentControl Grid.Row="0" Content="{Binding CurrentViewModel}" /> The Window containing this ContentControl references a resource dictionary that looks something like this: <ResourceDictionary ...> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type lib_vm:SetupPanelViewModel}"> <lib_v:SetupPanel /> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type lib_vm:InstructionsPanelViewModel}"> <lib_v:InstructionsPanel /> </DataTemplate> </ResourceDictionary> So, basically, the two data templates specify which view to show with which view-model. This switches the views as expected whenever the CurrentViewModel property on my window's view-model changes, but it also seems to cause value converters on the views to fire even when no data has changed. It's a particular problem with IMultiValueConverter classes, because the values in the value array get set to DependencyProperty.UnsetValue, which causes exceptions unless I specifically check for that. But I'm getting other weird side effects too. This has me wondering if I shouldn't just do everything manually, like this: Instantiate each view. Set the DataContext of each view to the appropriate view-model. Give the ContentControl a name and make it public. Handle the PropertyChanged event for the window. In the event handler, manually set the Content property of the ContentControl to the appropriate view, based the CurrentViewModel (using if statements). This seems to work, but it also seems very inelegant. I'm hoping there's a better way. • Alternate widgets and logic for ManyToManyField with Django forms

  In my Django project, I have a simple ticket system. When creating a ticket, certain users have the ability to assign the ticket to other users, and to email the ticket to other users as well (this is used as an FYI for those users, so they're aware of the ticket, even though it's not assigned to them.) At the moment, the form for adding a ticket is simply the default Django form, with the "assigned_to" and "email_to" fields being ManyToManyFields, and therefore displayed as MultipleSelect widgets, each with a list of all users. Due to the relatively large number of users, and general awkwardness of the MultipleSelect widget, and alternate layout is now required. The desired layout is a pair of simple Select widgets side-by-side. The first has the option of "Assign to" or "Email to" and the second is a list of the users. Essentially, like this: [Assign to] [John Doe] [Email to] [Jane Roe] [Jack Smith], etc. Of course, since an arbitrary number of users can be assigned or emailed a ticket, there's a simple button that runs some Javascript to add another set of widgets, to allow the user to assign and email as many people as they need to. So far all of that is fairly simple and straight forward. However, the problem I have is using this widget setup/logic setup with Django forms. Instead of lists of users to assign to and email, instead we're getting back pairs of information, one a user and the other which list that user should be placed in. What I'm looking for, but have yet to find, is a way to offload the translation between how the user uses the form, and how Django understands the model to the form itself, so I don't have to manually do the processing of the data before passing it to the form in each place this form is used. Additionally, there's a review screen with the option to go back and change the form before submitting it, so a way to have the form translate both to and from this format would be extremely helpful.

• Horizontally align rows in multiple tables using web user control

  I need to align rows in different tables that are layed out horizontally. I'd prefer to put the html code in a single web user control so I can create as many instances of that control as I want and lay them out horizontally. The problem is, the text in the rows needs to wrap. So some rows may expand vertically and some may not (see the example below). When that happens, the rows in the other tables aren't aligned horizontally. I know I can accomplish all this by using a single table, but that would mean I'd have to duplicate the name, address and phone html code instead of dynamically creating new instances of my user control (in reality there are many more fields than this, but I'm keeping it simple). Is there any way to do this whether with div's, tables or something else? Here's the problem: Mary Jane's address field expands 2 lines, causing her phone field to not align properly with John's and Bob's. Name: John Doe Name: Mary Jane Name: Bob Smith Address: 123 broadway Address: Some really long address Address: Short address Phone: 123-456 that takes up multiple lines Phone: 111-2222 Phone: 456-789 I'm not restricted in any way how to do this (other than using asp.net), but I'd prefer to use a single web control that I instantiate X times at design time (in this example, it's 3 times). (And parent must default to null to allow insertions, correct?) The problem is, if I change the id of a record, it will not cascade: Cannot delete or update a parent row: a foreign key constraint fails (`iddoc_main`.`fruit`, CONSTRAINT `fk_parent` FOREIGN KEY (`parent`) REFERENCES `fruit` (`id`) ON UPDATE CASCADE) What am I missing? Feel free to correct me if my terminology is screwed up... I'm new to constraints.

• paperclip overwrites / resets S3 permissions for non-bucket-owners

  I have opened this as an issue on Github (http://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip/issues/issue/225) but on the chance that I'm just doing this wrong, I thought I'd also ask about it here. If someone can tell me where I'm going wrong, I can close the issue and save the Paperclip guys some trouble. Issue: When using S3 for storage, and you wish your bucket to allow access to other users to whom you have granted access, Paperclip appears to overwrite the permissions on the bucket, removing access to these users. Process for duplication: Create a bucket in S3 and set up a Rails app with Paperclip to use this bucket for storage Add a user (for example, [email protected], the user for the video encoding service Zencoder) to the bucket, and grant this user List and Read/Write permissions. Upload a file. Refresh the permissions. The user you added will be gone. As well, a user "Everyone" with read permissions will have been added. The end result is that you cannot, so far as I can tell, retain desired permissions on your bucket when using Paperclip and S3. Can anyone help?

  Our hosting platform (running IIS6/ASP.NET 2.0) is configured to run under partial trust. In the machine wide web.config file we set the ASP.NET trust level to Medium (and lock to prevent overrides) and use a modified policy file. When trying to add a custom HttpHandler to handle .aspx requests for a website running in this configuration I get the following security exception: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. • How can I get back my privilege to create a new database in MySQL?

  I can not use MySQL. MySQL is on my local computer. Currently I added skip-grant-tables in My.ini so I can use MySQL. But I have no privilege to create a new database. My problem is tough, although I asked related questions on SO, but no answer can resolve my problem. I almost give up. So I lower my expectation. I am developing a website, so I need to create database, tables and operate tables. You don't have to consider security. Is there a simple solution that can give me privilege to create a new database? Maybe by adding some command in my.ini or something? You won't need to completely resolve my problem. Maybe after the development, I will upload the database and tables to another server(The current database server is my personal computer, windows XP) so I can uninstall and reinstall MySQL. The root of problem is that I lack privileges.

Any ideas ? I know its lot but i really would like to use existing code to build upon so i can focus on business rules. Could splitting the requirements on 3 or 4 existing open source framework be possible ? Do u have any suggestion to add to the list before starting ? What open source tools would u use to achieve these ?
