• Looking for a reliable web provider that supports ASP.NET? Shared LAMP account a plus.

  My title is probably not very clear but here's the deal. I'm a software engineer with experience in many languages but my current focus is Windows/Web applications using C# and .NET. I'm currently running a personal blog using WordPress and love it. I need to setup a website for my consulting company and, while I enjoy the canned benefits of a CMS like WordPress, would like to build a custom ASP.NET site. Either way my current LAMP host is not secure so I'm looking to switch and looking for a reliable alternative. My ultimate wish list of requirements would be a cost-effective (currently spending ~$120/yr for web+domain hosting) host that would allow me to deploy my own ASP.NET code and host a WordPress blog (IIS w/ PHP to external MySQL or separate LAMP site). Thanks in advance for your recommendations (Google is not good for this type of search :-D) Edit: I'm fine if I have to ditch WordPress. Really I'm just looking for a good ASP.NET host, the WordPress compatibility would be a plus.

• Perforce Proxy Server: Caching selective files [closed]

  I just set up a Perforce proxy server for work. I'm noticing the cache directory is filling up very quickly -- with files I know I will never need. For example, there is a 'sandbox' directory in the depot where users keep personal branches and other work; a p4 sync is causing the p4 proxy cache to grab these user's sandboxes when I'll never need them. I would create a symbolic link for the sandbox directory to /dev/null but then I wouldn't be caching my sandbox, which I am interested in. Is there any way to tell the perforce proxy something to the effect of "if I haven't had to sync it, please don't cache it?"

• MS SQL 2000 and SSL Certificate

  I'm trying to set up a MS SQL 2000 server to use an already existing SSL certificate installed on the server. I verified that the certificate shows up in the Personal/Certificate folder of the account that is running the MSSQLSERVER service using the Certificate MMC snap-in. I also verified that the certificate for the CA is installed under the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities. Additionally, to make sure that it is using this specific certificate I created a Certificate registry value of type REG_BINARY in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib and I set it to the certificates thumbprint like it mentions in: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/276553 Finally, I opened up the Server Network Utility, checked Force protocol encryption, clicked OK, and restarted the MSSQLSERVER service. Unfortunately, it fails to start and looking at the event log it's failing with: 19015: Encryption requested but no valid certificate was found. SQL Server terminating. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Where did I go wrong?

• CSS, JS and images are not loading while sharing WAMP over local network

  I have share my wamp over my personal LAN . (Server IP : 192.168.0.100) When I am trying to access wamp server it's working perfectly. But when I open website hosted on server using client machine (192.168.0.103) , it doesn't load CSS - Images and JS files. So I saw console and found that my browser is trying to load : localhost//mysite/css/style.css And failing to load resource. now when I try to load the same resource directly from browser using 192.168.0.100/mysite/css/style.css It's showing me css file ! Now I am confused how to solve this problem so that my browser load that css perfectly ! Please help me ! thanks in advance !

• What is the best way to setup a public and private wireless access point on the same home network?

  For my home network (with internet provided from a cable modem) I would like to setup a secure wireless access point that I use for all of my personal connections (home PC, iPhone, Xbox, etc) and also another public access point that friends and folks in the neighborhood may connect to (for good karma). I want to ensure that my private traffic cannot be accessed from users of the public access point. I currently have one router that is running the Tomato firmware that I use with WPA security. What is the best way to accomplish this kind of setup securely (if it is possible in a home environment)?

• Can't access website on local network

  I have a personal website running on my PC (Ubuntu), connected to the internet through a router. I can connect without any problem to my website when I'm not at home so I guess my router is correctly configured but whem I try to access the site using a local adress at home (192.168.XX.XX), it times out after 30 seconds or so. What tool could I use to find out where is the problem? I have tried a tracert command on my Windows PC but add just a useless line. If it's of any help, my website is running on Tomcat 6 but I don't think the problem is here as it would be weird that the server would be configured to be accessible from the internet but not the local network.

• Backup Client/Server Software that Syncs only the Delta?

  I have a co-located server, and a desktop computer. I push small things and large ammounts of small files (like my iTunes) into a JungleDisk cloud. If a few files change there, no big deal, the file gets re-uped. For larger files JungleDisk backup isn't helpful. Things like movies and VMware images that change a lot, but I want backed up. Just not to JungleDisk since that would cost me even more money. I am looking for a product, closed or open source (preferably open source) that will sync the change, or delta, to my personal server on a schedule. That way I can keep a copy of my larger things, without paying JungleDisk a ton more since they are in the range of many Gigabytes. Right now these few items are backed up over FTP, and take forever. Both the client and server are windows environments.

• Can I rely on S3 to keep my data secure?

  I want to back up sensitive personal data to S3 via an rsync-style interface. I'm currently using s3cmd - a great tool - but it doesn't yet support encrypted syncs. This means that while my data is encrypted (via SSL) during transfer, it's stored on their end unencrypted. I want to know if this is a big deal. The S3 FAQ says "Amazon S3 uses proven cryptographic methods to authenticate users... If you would like extra security, there is no restriction on encrypting your data before storing it in Amazon S3." Why would I like extra security? Is there some way my buckets could be opened to prying eyes without my knowing? Or are they just trying to save you when you accidentally change your ACLs and make your buckets world-readable?

• Stop a particular key getting captured by rdesktop

  Hello, I want F12 to be not capture by my rdesktop while in fullscreen, so that I can do whatever stuff I'm doing on my remote Windows computer, but pressing F12 would bring down yakuake, and I can type down my commands, or use vim etc for whatever I'm doing. Is there any possible way to do this? I tried playing with keymaps, but that didn't help. I set F12 to inhibit, but that seems to have stopped sending F12 altogether, rather than let gnome catch it and let yakuake pop up. Would be really grateful for answers. I am ready to do my homework, if someone could please just give me pointers etc. Thanks :). Sidenote: My current arranement stems from my large monitor in lab, and small personal laptop monitor, and the laptop has Windows 7. My lab computer has Linux, on which I do my coding work.

• Router's ssid changes from infrastructure to ad-hoc

  For a period of time the router's ssid is shown (on various computers) as a normal infrastructure network - computers connect fine and everything works however after a few minutes / hours all computers see the same ssid as an ad-hoc network (not infrastructure). At this point a computer that was already connected continues to work - a computer that isn't cannot connect. Rebooting the router temporarily restores the visibility of the correct infrastructure ssid. Is something interfering? Connecting computers: macbook (2009), iphone 3g, windows vista desktop, windows xp desktop. • Offline Outlook 2007 global address book slow to update

  Outlook 2007 talking to an Exchange 2007 server. Usual set-up of personal contacts and a site wide global address book. Distribution lists are often created by IT in the global address book but it sometimes takes days for them to appear in the local offline copy. Performing a manual download of the address book doesn't help. Problem doesn't occur with non-offline mode of Outlook 2007. Any ideas? Server or client side issue? Cheers, Rob.

• Installing Sharepoint 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2

  we are using in our lab a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 which is running as Hyper-V instance. Today we wanted to install a clean installation of Sharepoint 2007 with SP1 on this machine and we explorer an error that we are not able to install it. Nobody is going be happy with this solution and I hope we find a fast way how customers can install Sharepoint direclty on 2008 R2. • Block p2p downloading in my office?

  I work in an education office in a third world country. We pay for internet by the megabyte (no other choice) and have lately been using an incredible amount of bandwidth. This is because the office staff have found out about p2p sharing. As far as I know, Limewire is the only program they're using, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they discover the more general world of bittorrent. Using only a linksys router (that I could flash), is there any way for me prevent the office from destroying our bandwidth cap by downloading personal items (against policy). Even semi-fixes would be better than nothing.

  I have created a platform that i want users to sign up and a new site is created for them instantly. Users will register and afterwards they will receive a username and password for their personal site. The system will work like ecommerce platforms such as www.shopify.com, www.bigcommerce.com, etc.. where users sign up and a new web-shop is created for them instantly. I have been searching for a while how i can create a script to automate this task but couldn't find any tutorials. Am using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP). Am asking if someone can guide me how to write such script or maybe point me to a tutorial or a book or probably similar scripts to automate this task. • MBP Bluetooth PAN connection with iPhone 4

  I am trying to share MBP(OSX 10.8.3) internet connection with iPhone 4 (iOS 6) using Bluetooth PAN(Personal Area Network). Problem is Bluetooth PAN is not getting an ip address. I have tried to renew DHCP lease but nothing works. When I give a Manual IP address, the Bluetooth PAN goes green but doesn't shows the connection in iPhone. Is it possible to share the internet connection via Bluetooth. Note: I don't want to create an Ad-hoc connection over wifi.

• Google Drive stripped Outlook 2010 of all emails, contacts, etc

  I have a business that requires I use the business email: [email protected] I loaded Google Drive as a free cloud to share project details with co-worker. Side effect is that Outlook 2010 does not work now. All incoming emails are now transferred to my personal Google account. Now I can not send business emails inclusive of business headers and footers since Outlook is erroring on send/receive. And all my history of email organization on Outlook is gone. • Resolving real IP address out of a dynamic dns address

  I recently opened a dynamic dns user (at no-ip for that matter..) for my own personal needs and especially for ssh-ing my computer whenever I need to, without knowing it's static IP. My questions are: Am I misusing the concept of dynamic dns? Are there more appropriate methods to do what I want to do? If not, how do I resolve my router's real ip address? Firefox somehow manages to do so, nslookup and other similar commands only resolve the ip of the ddns server (e.g. no-ip.org). Trying to figure this mystery with wireshark failed miserably ;)

• UPS for hard drive protection

  I am in a place where electricity is not ideal (old house, no ground), sometimes it occasionally shuts down and supposedly there are some spikes. I consider using UPS with the goal to increase safety of my personal data. My first priority is the health of my internal and external USB hard drives which can be damaged due to possible power instability. I do not care that much about possible losses of not-saved work, instead I just want to let my system have a minimum time to turn off without any risk of physical damaging my hard drives. Would a cheap offline UPS suit my neads? Or do i need a better one with automatic voltage regulator (AVR)? How critical is AVR for the hard drives? The external ones require their own power supplies and will be plugged directly into UPS.

• Unable to sync the Zune software with my HTC HD7

  I have a brand new HTC HD7 with Windows Phone 7, with no Software installed. I am running on Windows 7 64 bit. Whenever I try to sync my Mobile Device with Zune- I get this message: Can't connect to your phone. Disconnect it, restart it, then try connecting again I've downloaded latest Zune software and all updates. I don't have any certificates on my personal certificates. My phone is listed under Portable devices in Device manager (It shows as phone with driver version 4.7.965.0). I've restarted both my computer and the mobile device few times. I tried unlocking the device during the Zune sync Any ideas as to how I can sync my phone ?

When i try the url from my personal computer , the site is not reachable but the same url on the server( which hosts the application) i am able to access the site. When i disable the firewall then i am able to access the site from my pc. So there is some rule which is blocking this port. How do i determine what windows firewall rule is blocking this port.   Hello, I am looking for a cheap solution to my problem: I need to find either an already existing common device (that is used in restaurants, bars clubs) or a cheap new device that I will distribute to those places, which can connect to internet (via the already existing ethernet or wireless based internet) and do HTTP request/receive response and retrieve information ? (For instance can a POS device connect to internet?) For a project, I need to do identity validation on several restaurants and bars and not all of them have computers. So I will be giving "cheap and easy to use devices" and non-IT personal can use it to do http request to my server and get response. All I can think of is Cell phones and SMS.

• Outlook - Sychronise contacts from exchange

  Hi, At work the exchange server has details of all employees in the system. Then there is the Contacts folder in Outlook. I can populate this with all staff, but, I want to synchronise it against all staff (occasionally) removing people who in are in my local contacts, but not in the Exchange server (leavers) and importing changes/updates/new staff from the exchange server. However, I also have some personal contacts (family members etc) locally that I want to exclude from that. This is to enable synching to my smartphone better. Any suggestions? Regards, Michael

• How to convert a mpeg4-aac video to mpeg-ts using MEncoder?

  Hello, I know this can be done using FFMpeg and I have done it. The only problem here was that FFMpeg actually tries to "encode" the file while converting to mpeg-ts which I don't want. i.e. I just want to change the container format to mpeg-ts without encoding the media. Is this type of conversion possible with FFMpeg? (I know about "copy" option, but it works with H264-aac and not with mpeg4-aac). Is it possible to change mpeg4-aac to mpeg-ts container format with MEncoder? I wish to know the personal opinion/advice of those who have already worked on such stuff. Thanks in advance.

• Basic clarification about Limited FTP/sFTP users

  I would like to get some clarification about the correct way to create limited users to access to my VPS user as WEBSERVER with Nginix. I'm used to NOT install FTP and access via SFTP only. It is ok for every set up? this is what I usually do from to create a limited user called "admin" that should be able to have access via SFTP to the folder with the website data mkdir -p /var/www/mysite.com/ adduser admin adduser admin www-data chown -R root:root /var/www chmod -R 755 /var/www chmod -R 755 /var/www/mysite.com chown -R admin:www-data /var/www/mysite.com/ It seems not to be the correct way, I always have problems with permission when I upload some files (for example with Wordpress in general). I would like to create an user that does work exactly as the one that the "provides" give to their client when they buy an Hosting service (that is a FTP, I would prefer SFTP access). It is for personal user, but I think that a limited user is a lot safer to use then the "root" via SFTP.
