• In your opinion what web technology would be best suited for building dropdown menus?

  What I need is a slide menu that is activated by one click. The menu then appears and doesn't disappear until user clicks any where else on the current page. I don't require any effects but need something reliable that I can style with ease, put a thumbnail of a photo inside change dimensions, add mouse over effects etc. I've done a several searches on google and quite a lot of options are coming up and I'm not too sure which would be best for me. I've seen some people suggestion html + css3 and others suggest jquery. Does any of these options have a benefit over the other? I would appreciate your opinions and maybe some links thanks.

• Edit Mode Delete Spinner Icon for Specific TableView Rows

  I have a grouped tableview. Each section has three rows. I need to be able to delete one section at a time. Using the standard edit mode, I can make it work. However, the delete icon shows up to the left of each cell, not just the first row in each section. Is there a way to suppress the little spinner icon for all rows except the first? I am hoping there is an easy way to do this without subclassing. Thanks for your help. • Recommended approach for error handling with PHP and MYSQL

  I am trying to capture database (MYSQL) errors in my PHP web application. Currently, I see that there are functions like mysqli_error(), mysqli_errno() for capturing the last occurred error. However, this still requires me to check for error occurrence using repeated if/else statements in my php code. You may check my code below to see what I mean. Is there a better approach to doing this? (or) Should I write my own code to raise exceptions and catch them in one single place? What is the recommended approach? Also, does PDO raise exceptions? • WPF Drag-to-scroll doesn't work correctly.

  Hi all, I am tying to realize a drag-to-scroll functionality in my application and have problems on my way. Can anybody help me? I have a ScrollViewer and inside it an ItemsControl and within ItemsTemplate I have a UserControl. I want to drag that UserControl within ItemsControl. • can you use jquery lazyload on all images (not just ones out of view)

  i have a webpage with a lot of images (photo album). I am using lazyloading jquery plugin which is great to only load the images out of browser view when i scroll down. The one issue i have is that i want the loading icon to show up first on images loading IN the current view as well as some of them are big images and they show up with that bad browser "image not loaded yet" icon until they download. I don't see any property on this plugin to support this for both in view and for scrolling. does anyone know if this is possible?

• Stretch ListBox Items hit area to full width if the ListBox?

  I've looked around for an answer on this, but the potential duplicates are more concerned with presentation than interaction. I have a basic list box, and each item's content is a simple string. The ListBox itself is stretched to fill it's grid container, but each ListBoxItem's hitarea does not mirror the ListBox width. It looks as if the hitarea (pointer contact area) for each item is only the width of the text content. How do I make this stretch all the way across, regardless of the text size. I've set HorizontalContentAlignment to Stretch, but this doesn't solve my problem. My only other guess is that the content is actually stretching, but the background is invisible and so not capturing the mouse pointer. <ListBox Grid.Row="1" x:Name="ProjectsListBox" DisplayMemberPath="Name" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Projects}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=SelectedProject}" HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch"/> The XAML is pretty straight forward on this. If I mouse over the text in one of the items, then the entire width of the item becomes active. I guess I just need to know how to create an interactive background that is invisible.

  I've got a very complex form and i'm using the MVC model binding to capture all the information I've got it set up to capture all the different submissions that can happen as there are about 10 different submit buttons on the form, and there are also 2 image buttons I tried to get a bit clever (or so i thought) with capturing the image button submissions, and have created a child class so that i can capture the x value that's returned public class ImageButtonViewData { public int x { get; set; } public string Value { get; set; } } The parent class looks something like this public class ViewDataObject { public ImageButtonViewData ImageButton { get; set; } public ViewDataObject(){ this.ImageButton = new ImageButton(); } } The html for the image button then looks like <input type="image" id="ViewDataObject_ImageButton" name="ViewDataObject.ImageButton" /> This works fine in all browsers except for Chrome. When i debug it in chrome, the Request.Form object contains the values that i would expect, but after the model binding has occurred, the ImageButton property on the ViewDataObject has been set to null The only difference that i can see between the submission values is that Chrome passes the x as lower case (ViewDataObject.ImageButton.x) and IE passes it as upper case (ViewDataObject.ImageButton.X) but i didn't think that model binding took any notice of casing on property names Does anyone have any ideas ?

• In Rails, how would I include a section of a page only if the rest of the page doesn't match a certain regexp?

  We have a site with a lot of user-generated content, and we'd like to show Google ads on it. Some of the content is such that we mustn't show the ads on pages containing that content, or else the whole site gets banned. We've come up with a regexp which we think will match all the offending content. So, three approaches come to mind: Render the page once without the ad section, and then insert the ad section into it if it's clean Render the page as normal, and do the insertion in client-side javascript Render the page above the ad section, capturing only the parts of the page that change; make sure there are no changing parts afterwards. Only show the ads if the captured text is clean, and make sure the unchanging, uncaptured parts are well-vetted in advance. The first one seems like it might delay the page rendering for too long; the second seems like it might delay showing the ads too long; and the third seems too fragile. Is there a better approach? If not, which one is the best solution of the three?

I know I would have to use the stream url https://api.twitter.com/1.1/search/tweets.json , but what do I need to change after that is where I don't know what to do. Obviously, I know I'll need to write the database sql but I want to just capture the stream first and view it. How would I do this? Is the code I have been using not any good for just capturing the stream?

• How can I compress jpeg images in Java without losing any metadata in that image?

  I want compress jpeg files using Java. I do it like this: Read the image as BufferedImage Write the image to another file with compression rate. OK, that seems easy, but I find the ICC color profile and the EXIF information are gone in the new file and the DPI of the image is dropped from 240 to 72. It looks different from the origin image. I use a tool like preview in OS X. It can perfectly change the quality of the image without affecting other information. Can I done this in Java? At least keep the ICC color profile and let the image color look the same as the origin photo?

  Hi All, I am developing a game in VB6 (plz don't ask me why :) ). The storyboard is ready and a rough implementation is underway. I am following a "pure-software-rendering" approach. (i.e. no DirectX, no openGL etc.) Amongst many others, the following "serious" problems exist: 2D alpha transparency reqd. to implement overlays. Parallax implementation to give depth-of-field illusion. Capturing mouse-scroll events globally (as in FPS-es; mapping them to changing weapon). Async sound play with absolute "zero-lag". Any ideas anyone. Please suggest any well documented library/ocx or sample-code. Plz do provide solutions with max performance and with as little overhead as possible. Also, anyone who has developed any games, and would be open to sharing her/his code would be highly appreciated. (any well-acknowledged VB games whose source-code i can study??) Thank You

• Image visualization with canvas. How to resize them?

  I'm building a website photo gallery for a friend. Images are loaded as simple DOM image objects (<img src="" />), and the size of these images is based on the browser size. So I resize them with CSS. This isn't an optimal solution since CSS resizing seems to change the quality of the image and pixelate it quite a bit. I was thinking of rendering the image with canvas and then resize it with that so that the quality remains effective, but I can't find any info about this online. Any ideas?

A post can have multiple photos and I am successfully only displaying the first photo in the photos table in the projects show view for each post.   If we were to use server1 for all files (file server), server2 for mysql database (database server). In order for websites in server1 to access to the database in server2, isn't it needed to connect to to ip address of second (mysql server) ? In this case, is remote mysql connection. However, I seen from some people comment on the security issue. remote access to MySQL is not very secure. When your remote computer first connects to your MySQL database, the password is encrypted before being transmitted over the Internet. But after that, all data is passed as unencrypted "plain text". If someone was able to view your connection data (such as a "hacker" capturing data from an unencrypted WiFi connection you're using), that person would be able to view part or all of your database. So I just wondering ways to secure it? Allow remote mysql access from server1 by allowing the static ip adress allow remote access from server 1 by setting port allowed to connect to 3306 change 3306 to other port? Any advice?

• With google maps, can you use google's own popup windows?

  I've implemented a google map with points and stuff that uses an address that the user inputs. When you click a point, the popup bubble appears with the name and address in. Often this name and address is a prominent location, as it's used for meetings and things, such as a university. If you google the address yourself on maps.google.co.uk then you get google's own popup bubble, which often has a photo, information, opening hours, links to directions, reviews, etc. etc. I am wondering if there's a way to use that popup dialog instead of my own, where it is available. I can't see anything in the API to do this. I'm using V2 as we support IE6 in a lot of our users, but I've been told recently I can upgrade to V3 should I need functionality from it. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am trying to develop a web application for which I need to capture a specific user-driven event (such as mouse dblclick) occurring on a different-website page loaded through my website. What I want to do is : User visits my website - hosted by me. There, user types in any website URL (e.g.: http://www.example.com) That URL page gets loaded as is. When user double-clicks mouse over any link or image from that page, a popup/side-panel is displayed with content related to that particular image or link. I can do this with a combination of PHP get_page_contents or include-page, and javascript dblclick. However, when user clicks on any link or submits a form, the control goes to that other website, where I cannot show the side-panel. I might be able to handle the links by proxifying them when user clicks on any of them. How do I handle forms submission and other stuff ? I can use a full-featured proxy, but that will be too heavy just for the purpose of capturing the event. My question is that is there a way to write some kind of light PHP script that sits on my website - that loads other websites contents as is, but lets me capture the mouse-dblclick event to show related-content in the side panel . I have already searched the internet, but could not find anything. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.
