• 398 row datalist slowing down modal open????

  Hey guys I got a weird issue.. I have a datalist that's only loaded on pageload it contains 2 columns a name and date and has 398 rows.. In IE 7 and above(and prob previous version) when I open a modal via a button click it takes almost 5 seconds to open. HOWEVER, if I do not bind this datalist it's MUCH faster.. Also this is only happening in IE, Chrome, Firefox and opera both open the modal instantly with the datalist binded... Josh

  Hi I don't know the correct words for what I'm trying to find out about and as such having a hard time googling. I want to know whether its possible with databases (technology independent but would be interested to hear whether its possible with Oracle, MySQL and Postgres) to point to specific rows instead of executing my query again. So I might initially execute a query find some rows of interest and then wish to avoid searching for them again by having a list of pointers or some other metadata which indicates the location on a database which I can go to straight away the next time I want those results. I realise there is caching on databases, but I want to keep these "pointers" else where and as such caching doesn't ultimately solve this problem. Is this just an index and I store the index and look up by this? most of my current tables don't have indexes and I don't want the speed decrease that sometimes comes with indexes. So whats the magic term I've been trying to put into google? Cheers

  I have 2 different databases. Upon changing something in the big one (i don't have access to), i get some rows imported in my databases in a similar HUGE table. I have a job checking for records in this table, and if any, execute a stored procedure, process and delete from table. Performance. (Huge amount of data) I would like to know what is the fastest way to know if something has changed using let's say 2 imported rows with 100 columns each. Don't have FK-s, don't need. Chances are, that even though I have records in my table, nothing has actually changed. Also. Let's say there is actually changed something. Is it possible for example to check only for changes inside datetime columns? Thanks

  So I am making a small site using cakephp, and my ACL is set up so that every time a piece of content is created, an ACL rule is created to link the owner of the piece of content to the actual content. This allows each owner to edit/delete their own content. This method just seems so inefficient, because there is an equivalent amount of ACL rules as content in the database. I was curious, how do big sites, with millions of pieces of content, solve this problem?

With some files it gives the correct file size, but with some files it gives me a value that is approximatively fileCSV.size()/2. I am sending two files that have same number of characters in it, but have different file sizes link text. Should i use some other objects for reading the QFile? I have a div id="words", with a set width of 700px (but I might change it from this). Using css/javascript/jquery, how can I make it: Order the words by number of letters Place the words inside the div tag, left to right, but so that there are no gaps at the right edge of the words div, and there is even spacing between words on a line. Each word should have a border around it and a background. Like this: |reallylongwordssdf shorterwordfdf dfsdfsdfsdf sdfsdfsdf| |sdfsdfsdf sdffsdop sdfjpogs sdfsds dfsdsd dfsdsd dfsdsd| I really have no idea where to begin with this.   Hello, Specifications: MySQL 4.1+ I've certain situation that requires certain result set from MySQL query, let's see the current query first & then ask my question: SELECT thread.dateline AS tdateline, post.dateline AS pdateline, MIN(post.dateline) FROM thread AS thread LEFT JOIN post AS post ON(thread.threadid = post.threadid) LEFT JOIN forum AS forum ON(thread.forumid = forum.forumid) WHERE post.postid != thread.firstpostid AND thread.open = 1 AND thread.visible = 1 AND thread.replycount >= 1 AND post.visible = 1 AND (forum.options & 1) AND (forum.options & 2) AND (forum.options & 4) AND forum.forumid IN(1,2,3) GROUP BY post.threadid ORDER BY tdateline DESC, pdateline ASC As you can see, mainly I need to select dateline of threads from 'thread' table, in addition to dateline of the second post of each thread, that's all under the conditions you see in the WHERE CLAUSE. Since each thread has many posts, and I need only one result per thread, I've used GROUP BY CLAUSE for that purpose. This query will return only one post's dateline with it's related unique thread. My questions are: How to limit returned threads per each forum!? Suppose I need only 5 threads -as a maximum- to be returned for each forum declared in the WHERE CLAUSE 'forum.forumid IN(1,2,3)', how can this be achieved. Is there any recommendations for optimizing this query (of course after solving the first point)? Notes: I prefer not to use sub-queries, but if it's the only solution available I'll accept it. Double queries not recommended. I'm sure there's a smart solution for this situation. Appreciated advice in advance :)

  Hello there I've a table with about 130 000 records with telephonenumbers. The numbers are all formated like this +4311234567. The numbers always include international country code, local area code and then the phonenumber and sometimes an extension. There is a webservice which checks for the caller's number in the table. That service works already. But now the client wants that also if someone calls from a company which number is already in the database but not his extension, that the service will return some result. Example for table. **id** | **telephonenumber** | **name** | 1 | +431234567 | company A | 2 | +431234567890 | employee in company A | 3 | +4398765432 | company b now if somebody from company A calls with a different extension for example +43123456777, than it should return id1. But the problem is, that I don't know how many digits the extensions have. It could have 3,4 or more digits. Are there any patterns for string kind of matchings? The data is stored in a sql2005 database. Thanks
