    According to what I've read, I think this can't be done, but I'd like to be sure. I have a class OpDTO and several other *DTO extends OpDTO. Then, I want to have a method to extract just certain elements from lists of these child DTOs, and return the extracted elements in another list: public List<? extends OpDTO> getLastOp (List<? extends OpDTO> listDTOs) { List<? extends OpDTO> last = new ArrayList<? extends OpDTO>(); //compile error: Cannot instantiate the type ArrayList<? extends OpDTO> //processing return last; } I want ult to be a list of elements of the same kind as elements in listDTOs, and use only OpDTO's methods, but it produces a compile error: Cannot instantiate the type ArrayList<? extends OpDTO> I also tried doing something like: public <T> List<T> getLastOp (List<T> listDTOs) { List<T> last = new ArrayList<T>(); //processing return last; } But then I can't enforce elements in listDTOs to be a subclass of OpDTO, and can't instantiate T.   • ASP.NET MVC routing issue with Google Chrome client

    My Silverlight 4 app is hosted in ASP.NET MVC 2 web application. It works fine when I browse with Internet Explorer 8. However Google Chrome (version 5) cannot find ASP.NET controllers. Specifically, the following ASP.NET controller works both with Chrome and IE. //[OutputCache(NoStore = true, Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] public ContentResult TestMe() { ContentResult result = new ContentResult(); XElement response = new XElement("SvrResponse", new XElement("Data", "my data")); result.Content = response.ToString(); return result; } If I uncomment [OutputCache] attribute then it works with IE but not with Chrome. Also, I use custom model binding with controllers, so if I write the following: public ContentResult TestMe(UserContext userContext) { ... } it also works with IE, but again not with Chrome which gives me error message saying that resource was not found. Of course, I configured IIS 6 for handling all requests via aspnet_isapi.dll and I have registered custom model binder in my web app's Global.asax inside Application_Start() method. Can someone explain me what might be the cause? Thank you.

  • How to Avoid PHP Object Nesting/Creation Limit?

    I've got a handmade ORM in PHP that seems to be bumping up against an object limit and causing php to crash. Here's a simple script that will cause crashes: <? class Bob { protected $parent; public function Bob($parent) { $this->parent = $parent; } public function __toString() { if($this->parent) return (string) "x " . $this->parent; return "top"; } } $bobs = array(); for($i = 1; $i < 40000; $i++) { $bobs[] = new Bob($bobs[$1 -1]); } ?> Even running this from the command line will cause issues. Some boxes take more than 40,000 objects. I've tried it on Linux/Appache (fail) but my app runs on IIS/FastCGI. On FastCGI this causes the famous "The FastCGI process exited unexpectedly" error. Obviously 20k objects is a bit high, but it crashes with far fewer objects if they have data and nested complexity. Fast CGI isn't the issue - I've tried running it from the command line. I've tried setting the memory to something really high - 6,000MB and to something really low - 24MB. If I set it low enough I'll get the "allocated memory size xxx bytes exhausted" error. I'm thinking that it has to do with the number of functions that are called - some kind of nesting prevention. I didn't think that my ORM's nesting was that complicated but perhaps it is. I've got some pretty clear cases where if I load just ONE more object it dies, but loads in under 3 seconds if it works.

  • Can I stop the dbml designer from adding a connection string to the dbml file?

    We have a custom function AppSettings.GetConnectionString() which is always called to determine the connection string that should be used. How this function works is unimportant to the discussion. It suffices to say that it returns a connection string and I have to use it. I want my LINQ to SQL DataContext to use this so I removed all connection string informatin from the dbml file and created a partial class with a default constructor like this: public partial class SampleDataContext { public SampleDataContext() : base(AppSettings.GetConnectionString()) { } } This works fine until I use the designer to drag and drop a table into the diagram. The act of dragging a table into the diagram will do several unwanted things: A settings file will be created A app.config file will be created My dbml file will have the connection string embedded in it All of this is done before I even save the file! When I save the diagram the designer file is recreated and it will contain its own default constructor which uses the wrong connection string. Of course this means my DataContext now has two default constructors and I can't build anymore! I can undo all of these bad things but it is annoying. I have to manually remove the connection string and the new files after each change! Is there anyway I can stop the designer from making these changes without asking? EDIT The requirement to use the AppSettings.GetConnectionString() method was imposed on me rather late in the game. I used to use something very similar to what it generates for me. There are quite a few places that call the default constructor. I am aware that change them all to create the data context in another way (using a different constructor, static method, factory, ect..). That kind of change would only be slightly annoying since it would only have to be done once. However, I feel, that it is sidestepping the real issue. The dbml file and configuration files would still contain an incorrect, if unused, connection string which at best could confuse other developers.

  • Hibernate query for multiple items in a collection

    I have a data model that looks something like this: public class Item { private List<ItemAttribute> attributes; // other stuff } public class ItemAttribute { private String name; private String value; } (this obviously simplifies away a lot of the extraneous stuff) What I want to do is create a query to ask for all Items with one OR MORE particular attributes, ideally joined with arbitrary ANDs and ORs. Right now I'm keeping it simple and just trying to implement the AND case. In pseudo-SQL (or pseudo-HQL if you would), it would be something like: select all items where attributes contains(ItemAttribute(name="foo1", value="bar1")) AND attributes contains(ItemAttribute(name="foo2", value="bar2")) The examples in the Hibernate docs didn't seem to address this particular use case, but it seems like a fairly common one. The disjunction case would also be useful, especially so I could specify a list of possible values, i.e. where attributes contains(ItemAttribute(name="foo", value="bar1")) OR attributes contains(ItemAttribute(name="foo", value="bar2")) -- etc. Here's an example that works OK for a single attribute: return getSession().createCriteria(Item.class) .createAlias("itemAttributes", "ia") .add(Restrictions.conjunction() .add(Restrictions.eq("ia.name", "foo")) .add(Restrictions.eq("ia.attributeValue", "bar"))) .list(); Learning how to do this would go a long ways towards expanding my understanding of Hibernate's potential. :)

  • Handle order dependence in loops

    Hey all, I'm making a templating system where I instantiate each tag using a foreach loop. The issue is that some of the tags rely on each other so, I'm wondering how to get around that ordering from the looping. Here's an example: Class A { public $width; __construct() { $this->width = $B->width; // Undefined! Or atleast not set yet.. } } Class B { public $width; __construct() { $this->width = "500px"; } __tostring() { return "Hello World!"; } } Template.php $tags = array("A", "B"); foreach ($tags as $tag) { $TagObj[$tag] = new $tag(); } echo $TagObj['A']->width; // Nadamundo! EDIT: Ok just to clarify.. My main problem is that Class A relies on Class B, but class A is instantiated before class B, so therefore width has not yet been defined in class B. I am looking for a good way to make sure all the classes are loaded for everyone allowing the interdependencies to exist. For the future, please don't consider any syntax errors.. I just made up this example on the spot. Also assume that I have access to class B from class A after class B gets instantiated. I know this has applications elsewhere and I'm sure this has been solved before, if someone could enlighten me or point me in the right direction that'd be great! Thanks! Matt Mueler

The second Person2 set alerts "sal", then "bill", but it fails when the showPrivate function is called. The new keyword here works as I'd expect, but showPrivate (which I thought was a publicly exposed function within the closure) is apparently not public. I want to get my object to have distinct copies of all local variables and also expose public methods -- I've been studying closures quite a bit, but I'm still confused on this one.     Does anyone know of a way to get HSL from an linearRGB color (not an sRGB color)? I've seen a lot of sRGB<-HSL conversions, but nothing for linearRGB<-HSL. Not sure if it is fundementally the same conversion with minor tweaks, but I'd appreciate any insight someone may have on this. Linear RGB is not the same as linearizing sRGB (which is taking [0,255] and making it [0,1]). Linear RGB transformation from/to sRGB is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB. A reference on an open source project Grafx2 @ http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/issues/detail?id=63#c22 in which the contributor states that he has done Linear RGB <- HSL conversion and provides some C code in an attachment to his comment in a .diff file (which I can't really read :( ) My intent is to send from sRGB (for example, FF99FF (R=255, G=153, B=255)) to Linear RGB (R=1.0, G=0.318546778125092, B=1.0) using the code above (for example, the G=153 would be obtained in Linear RGB from sRGB_to_linearRGB(153 / 255)) to HSL, modify the Saturation by 350% and going back from HSL-Linear RGB-sRGB, the result would be FF19FF (R=255, G=25, B=255). Using available functions from .NET, such as .getHue from a System.Drawing.Color does not work in any sRGB space above 100% modulation of any HSL value, hence the need for Linear RGB to be sent in instead of sRGB.

  • ActionScript Tweening Matrix Transform (big problem)

    I am trying to build an QT State Maschine. I have some States, and for those States i need Transition that alter the Graphics on my gui. The Problem i having and the only reason i am asking, i am Stuck and Point 1. The compiler cant identifie the QTEventTransition. I have QT 4.6 wroking with QT Creator on Windows. The compiler does not find Header #include < QtEventTransition This is what i did i never did this bevor but i think it should be correct, I have A Header File where i have my Transitions Declareted like this: class validateBoatTransition : public QtEventTransition { public: validateBoatTransition(Widget *widget,ServerSkeleton* server); protected: bool eventTest(QEvent *e); void onTransition(QEvent *); private: Chart* ourChart; Message current; BarelySocket* myBarelySocket; }; Than i have my Cpp File where i have this: validateBoatTransition::validateBoatTransition(Widget *widget,ServerSkeleton* server) { } void validateBoatTransition::onTransition(QEvent *e) { /* My Logik should go here */ } What i want is that if the Transition is activated by an Button (clicked) it should fire this transition! When Momsbackground is selected in the program, I set the ChosenBackground string according to what item the user has clicked (either "Mom" or "Dad").   • Handling MVC2 variables with hyphens in their name

    I'm working with some third-party software that creates querystring parameters with hyphens in their names. I was taking a look at this SO question and it seems like their solution is very close to what I need but I'm too ignorant to the underlying MVC stuff to figure out how to adapt this to do what I need. Ideally, I'd like to simply replace hyphens with underscores and that would be a good enough solution. If there's a better one, then I'm interested in hearing it. An example of a URL I want to handle is this: http://localhost/app/Person/List?First-Name=Bob with this Controller: public ActionResult List(string First_Name) { {...} } To repeat, I cannot change the querystring being generated so I need to support it with my controller somehow. But how?     I was searching for a way to insert an ellipsis in a C# path, and found an answer here on stackoverflow: http://tinyurl.com/y6rmdfr Using the RTM versions of VS2010 and .Net 4.0, I was unable to get the suggested method to work. I searched the 'Net and found example code that uses the same method, but it failed in the same way. You can see the string I'm trying to shorten in my code below. After calling the MeasureText method, both the input string (OriginalName) and the output string (ellipsisedName) look like this: d:\abcd\efgh\ijkl\mnop\qrst\...\test.txt\0F\GHIJ\KLMN\OPQR\STIV\WXYZ\test.txt Two problems: 1) The resulting string is narfed (the path is truncated as expected, but is followed by what looks like a C-style terminating null and a chunk of the original path). 2) My original string is changed to be identical to the output string.     I'm trying to use Reflection.Emit in C# to emit a using (x) { ... } block. At the point I am in code, I need to take the current top of the stack, which is an object that implements IDisposable, store this away in a local variable, implement a using block on that variable, and then inside it add some more code (I can deal with that last part.)   • How to name multiple versioned ServiceContracts in the same WCF service?

    When you have to introduce a breaking change in a ServiceContract, a best practice is to keep the old one and create a new one, and use some version identifier in the namespace. If I understand this correctly, I should be able to do the following: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://foo.com/2010/01/14")] public interface IVersionedService { [OperationContract] string WriteGreeting(Person person); } [ServiceContract(Name = "IVersionedService", Namespace = "http://foo.com/2010/02/21")] public interface IVersionedService2 { [OperationContract(Name = "WriteGreeting")] Greeting WriteGreeting2(Person2 person); } With this I can create a service that supports both versions. This actually works, and it looks fine when testing from soapUI. However, when I create a client in Visual Studio using "Add Service Reference", VS disregards the namespaces and simply sees two interfaces with the same name. In order to differentiate them, VS adds "1" to the name of one of them. I end up with proxies called ServiceReference.VersionedServiceClient and ServiceReference.VersionedService1Client Now it's not easy for anybody to see which is the newer version. Should I give the interfaces different names? E.g IVersionedService1 IVersionedService2 or IVersionedService/2010/01/14 IVersionedService/2010/02/21 Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the namespace? Should I put them in different service classes and get a unique URL for each version?
