• Rails app Hangs and Ruby uses 100% CPU

  I have an apache2 server running Phusion Passenger. On this machine I have two virtual hosts setup each look like this (path's are different for the 2nd virtualhost...but other directives are the same) ServerName beta.mysite.us DocumentRoot "/var/www/beta/mysite/public" <Directory "/var/www/beta/mysite/public"> RewriteEngine on AllowOverride All Options FollowSymLinks </Directory> # http://www.modrails.com/documentation/Users guide.html PassengerAppRoot "/var/www/beta/mysite" RailsEnv development PassengerMaxPoolSize 6 PassengerDefaultUser mysite # PassengerHighPerformance does come at a trade off of lack of support for mod_rewrite PassengerHighPerformance off RailsSpawnMethod conservative RailsFrameworkSpawnerIdleTime 0 RailsAppSpawnerIdleTime 0 PassengerPoolIdleTime 300 ErrorLog "/var/log/httpd/mysite-beta-error_log" CustomLog "/var/log/httpd/mysite-beta-access_log" common Apache starts fine. I can go to one of the virtualhosts and it will load Rails and work. When I go to the second virtualhost, a ruby process spawns ("Rails: /var/www/mysite/current" according to ps awuxf) and uses 100% CPU. This process never exits. At this point neither virtualhost is responsive. If I kill the the offending ruby process, another ruby process replaces it and uses 100% cpu. If I kill these processes about 5-6 times, then both virtualhosts respond but they, are somehow, running the same Rails app?! I have another virtualhost on this machine that is not setup with phusion passenger..This one never exhibits any problems. Any help / ideas would be much appreciated!

  Hello all, I am just studying a few classes given to me by my lecturer and I can't understand how the function heapRebuild is being made used of! It doesn't change any global variables and it doesn't print out anything ad it doesn't return anything - so should this even work? It shouldn't, should it? What I mean is that when i type the this holder. the getSayingsList is not showing at all. What am I missing here? I know that it is an extremely small issue, but it seems that I can't spot it. My activity extends FragmentActivity if it's important It seems that I'm missing something here. I can't call my method anywhere in my activity. I'm starting a bounty, because I need an example.

• Is it an good idea to make a wrapper specifically for a DateTime that respresents Now?

  I have been noticing lately that is really nice to use a DateTime representing 'now' as an input parameter for your methods, for mocking and testing purposes. Instead of every method calling DateTime.UtcNow themselves, I do it once in the upper methods and forward it on the lower ones. So a lot of methods that need a 'now', have an input parameter DateTime now. (I'm using MVC, and try to detect a parameter called now and modelbind DateTime.UtcNow to it) So instead of: public bool IsStarted { get { return StartTime >= DateTime.UtcNow; } } I usually have: public bool IsStarted(DateTime now) { return StartTime >= now; } So my convention is at the moment, if a method has a DateTime parameter called now, you have to feed it with the current time. Of course this comes down to convention, and someone else can easily just throw some other DateTime in there as a parameter. To make it more solid and static-typed I am thinking about wrapping DateTime in a new object, i.e. DateTimeNow. So in one of the most upper layers I will convert the DateTime to a DateTimeNow and we will get compile errors when, someone tries to fiddle in a normal DateTime. Of course you can still workaround this, but at least if feels more that you are doing something wrong at point. Did anyone else ever went into this path? Are there any good or bad results on the long term that I am not thinking about?

  Hi i have a class tools which has static variable std::vector m_tools. Can i insert the values into the static variable from Global scope of other classes defined in other files. Example: tools.h File class Tools { public: static std::vector<std::vector> m_tools; void print() { for(int i=0 i< m_tools.size() ; i++) std::cout<<"Tools initialized :"<< m_tools[i]; } } tools.cpp File std::vector<std::vector> Tools::m_tools; //Definition Using register class constructor for inserting the new string into static variable. class Register { public: Register(std::string str) { Tools::m_tools.pushback(str); } }; Different class which inserts the string to static variable in static variable first_tool.cpp //Global scope declare global register variable Register a("first_tool"); //////// second_tool.cpp //Global scope declare global register variable Register a("second_tool"); Main.cpp void main() { Tools abc; abc.print(); } Will this work? In the above example on only one string is getting inserted in to the static list. Problem look like "in Global scope it tries to insert the element before the definition is done" Please let me know is there any way to set the static definiton priority? Or is there any alternative way of doing the same.

  I have built a parser in Sprache and C# for files using a format I don't control. Using it I can correctly convert: a = "my string"; into my string The parser (for the quoted text only) currently looks like this: public static readonly Parser<string> QuotedText = from open in Parse.Char('"').Token() from content in Parse.CharExcept('"').Many().Text().Token() from close in Parse.Char('"').Token() select content; However the format I'm working with escapes quotation marks using "double doubles" quotes, e.g.: a = "a ""string""."; When attempting to parse this nothing is returned. It should return: a ""string"". Additionally a = ""; should be parsed into a string.Empty or similar. I've tried regexes unsuccessfully based on answers like this doing things like "(?:[^;])*", or: public static readonly Parser<string> QuotedText = from content in Parse.Regex("""(?:[^;])*""").Token() This doesn't work (i.e. no matches are returned in the above cases).   I'm creating a database access layer in native C++, and I'm looking at ways to support NULL values. In particular I don't like the singleton-like object of CNullValue with the statics. I'd prefer to just do sp.StoredProc(3, CNullValue); or something similar. How do others solve this problem?

• How to get java singleton object manager to return any type of object?

  I'm writing an interactive fiction game in java from scratch. I'm currently storing all of my game object references in a hashmap in a singleton called ObjectManager. ObjectManager has a function called get which takes an integer ID and returns the appropriate reference. The problem is that it returns a BaseObject when I need to return subclasses of BaseObject with more functionality. So, what I've done so far is I've added a getEntity function which returns BaseEntity (which is a subclass of BaseObject). However, when I need the function to return to an object that is a subclass of BaseEntity that has added, required functionality, I will need to make another function. I know there is a better way, but I don't know what it is. I know very little of design patterns, and I'm not sure which one to use here. I tried passing 'class' as a parameter, but that didn't get me anywhere. public BaseObject get(int ID){ return (BaseObject)refMap.get(ID); } public BaseEntity getEntity(int ID){ return (BaseEntity)refMap.get(ID); } Thanks, java ninjas!

  I'm trying to get the result of my web service as an array and then loop over the result to fetch all of the data; what I have done so far: In my web service when I return the result I use return json_encode($newFiles); and the result is as following: "[{\"path\":\"c:\\\\my_images\\\\123.jpg\",\"ID\":\"123\",\"FName\":\"John\",\"LName\":\"Brown\",\"dept\":\"Hr\"}]" tehn in my Web application I'm calling the rest web service by the following code in the RestService class: public function getNewImages($time) { $url = $this->rest_url['MyService'] . • why would i get a different views when called from different controller actions in asp.net-mvc

  I have 2 different controller actions. As seen below, one calls the same view as the other one. The fitness version has a bunch of jquery ui tabs. public ActionResult FitnessByTab(string tab, DateTime entryDate) { return View("Fitness", GetFitnessVM(DateTime.Today.Date)); } public ActionResult Fitness() { return View(GetFitnessVM(DateTime.Today.Date)); } private FitnessVM GetFitnessVM(DateTime dt) { FitnessVM vm = new FitnessVM(); vm.Date = dt; // a bunch of other date that comes from a database return vm; } the issue is that on the action FitnessByTab() the tabs dont load correctly but on the Fitness() it loads fine. How could this be as my understanding is that they would be going through the same code path at that point. As you can see i am hard coded both to the same date to make sure its not a different date causing the issue. EDIT Issues has been solved. It was the relative referencing of all my links. I didn't get any issues until i used firebug that highlighted some missing references due to "../../" instead of Url.Content("

• Bind data of interface properties only

  I am new in all the Entity Framework models and the data bindings. I created an interface and generated a model class from my Candidate table in the db. public interface ICandidate { String ID { get; set; } string Name { get; set; } string Mail { get; set; } } i created a partial class to the generated Candidate model so i will be able to implement the ICandidate interface without changing any generated code. public partial class Candidates : ICandidate { string ICandidate.ID { get { return this.PK; } set { _PK = value; } } string ICandidate.Name { get{ return this._Name; } set { _Name = value; } } string ICandidate.Mail { get { return this._Email; } set { this._Email = value; } } } Of course, the generated class has more properties than the interface has (Like IsDeleted field that is not necessary for the interface). I want to display in a DataGridView all the candidates from the db. But I want that only the interface's properties will be shown as columns in the DataGridView. Is there a way bind only the interface's properties the the DataGridView? In my DB there is a table called Candidate_To_Company with these columns: PK, Candidate_FK, Company_FK, Insertion_Date I would like to bind this table to DataGridView. but instead of displaying Candidate_FK i would like to display the candidate name from ICandidate. Is this possible?

• One Common View In Every ViewController

  I am having a hard time wording this when searching the internet so I am just going to ask the question. I have an options view in my app that slides into view when the user clicks a button. This options view will display app information like settings. I want this options view to be displayed on every view controller in my app. I do not want to copy and paste the code for the options view into every viewcontroller file. The options view has quite a few outlets and actions and also calls many delegates. How can I reuse this options view in all my view controllers without adding all the outlets, actions, and delegate methods each time? I was going to make a new file with public methods, but I would still have to copy the outlets. Would this public methods file have to include delegate methods as well then? Let me know if my question does not make sense. I am hoping there is a standard way of implementing something like this.

• How can I provide property-level string formatting?

  Not sure if the question wording is accurate, but here's what I want to do: I want to databind a class with some strings in it: class MyClass { public string MyProperty { get; set; } public string MyProperty2 { get; set; } } When databinding, everything behaves normally. On the back end, I'm writing to a file and I want MyProperty2 to always be encrypted using some encryption algorithm. I want my back-end code to write each string without needing to know that encryption is required (I want the class to know it should be encrypted, not the consumer). Can I do this with a type converter, or something similar? EDIT: There are other scenarios as well. Some booleans I want to format as "Y" or "N", other booleans I want formatted as "Enabled" / "Disabled", etc. I can write (and have written) helper methods and let the file writer call the helper methods as appropriate, I'm just wondering if there's a way to do this without the file writer needing to know which objects need which kind of formatting and let the objects tell that to the file writer.

(i know that's what the .NET page class does, but i want to have something much lighter) EG: in the .html file: <%@ Directive classname="HTMLSnippet" %> <html> <body> <div>[%message%] </body> </html> and in a .cs file public class MyClass : HTMLSnippet { public class MyClass () { snippet.message = "message goes here" } } So my question is how do make the HTMLSnippet class so that it's members are automatically created, and specifically show up in Intellesense as i add tokens to the .html file? I know that .net currently does it by creating the designer.cs file and basically builds a class with all the elements from the page as it goes, and that would work fine but how can i get visual studio to generate that before compiling so that it shows up in Intellesense. Thanks! Clarification I'm not using this as a handler yet, i want to use this to have HTML snippets with tokens be usable in code as an object with properties. so almost like a custom control. I think what i have to do is create a VS add-in that waits for me to type tokens into an .html file then it automatically creates a .cs file with members for each token.

• SQL query doesn't get inserted

  I've been trying to get my query to work for some time it runs but doesn't insert anything nor does it return any errors. The database connection is open and is successfuly connection. • Passing list of items from Controller/Model to a variable in javascript - autocomplete

  I've a method in a NamesModel which fetches all the names and returns a list of names: public static List<NamesModel> GetAllNames() { List<NamesModel> names = new List<NamesModel>(); // // code to fetch records // return names; } In my controller: public ActionResult Index() { NamesModel model = new NamesModel(); model.GetAllNames(); return View(model); } In the view, I've got a textbox: @Html.TextBox("search-name") Now in my javascript, I want to fetch all names into a variable either from a model (from method) or from controller, for example: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { var names = ........... $(document).ready(function () { $('#search-name').autocomplete({ source: names }); }); }); </script> If I use hardcoding then it works but I want to use the names stored in the db. Is it possible? hardcoding example: var names = ["abc", "xyz"];
