  • Using memcpy to change a jnz to a jmp.

    - by Phil
Not used memcpy much but here's my code that doesn't work. memcpy((PVOID)(enginebase+0x74C9D),(void *)0xEB,2); (enginebase+0x74C9D) is a pointer location to the address of the bytes that I want to patch. (void *)0xEB is the op code for the kind of jmp that I want. Only problem is that this crashes the instant that the line tries to run, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, any incite?

  • Javascript obfuscation and extreme situation in production solving

    - by faya
Hello, I have a few questions regarding JavaScript obfuscation on client side. First question: What is the best tool or best three tools which ones you could suggest for this operation? Second question: How developers should debug such code (in example with firebug) when extreme situation appears in the production if the code is obfuscated? P.S. - I know that it's bad practice to debug in production, but we had some emergencies and experienced sometimes such situations. Thanks for any help!

  • Choosing the MVC view engine

    - by leonard
I want to allow the end-users of my web application to modify views (via web based back office), stored in the database. The desired view engine is expected to be code-injection safe, meaning that the end-user will be limited to the absolute minimum number of expressions available, no server code inserts are allowed. Is any suitable view engine available to download?

  • prohibiting instantiation as a temporary object (C++)

    - by SuperElectric
I like using sentry classes in c++, but I seem to have a mental affliction that results in repeatedly writing bugs like the following: { MySentryClass(arg); // ... other code } Needless to say, this fails because the sentry dies immediately after creation, rather than at the end of the scope, as intended. Is there some way to prevent MySentryClass from being instantiated as a temporary, so that the above code either fails to compile, or at least aborts with an error message at runtime?

  • Servlet request getparameter's performance

    - by Bob
Hi, I noticed that my app is very slow sometimes, so I've done some tests. It's a very simple web app. One servlet gets some parameters than stores them. Everything's fine except one thing. It takes too long to get a parameter for the first time. It doesn't matter which parameter I try to get, but for the first time it is very slow. The strange thing is this doesn't happen always. Sometimes getting a parameter for the first time is not slow. My code looks like this request.getParameter("paramName"); request.getParameter("paramName2"); request.getParameter("paramName3"); Getting "paramName" is slow. Getting the others is very fast. By slow I mean : 200-800 millisec By very fast I mean: ~0 millisec (in the code snippet, I didn't write the performance test, but I'm using System.currentTimeMillis())

  • Latex: stretchable curly braces outside math

    - by basweber
Hi, I am producing some latex beamer slides (but I think it is not a beamer specific question per se). I have the following: \begin{itemize} \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \item Issue3 \end{itemize} Now, I want to have a right curly brace (i.e. '}') behind the items spreading over issue1 and issue2. And of course I want to write something behind that curly brace. In a perfect world I would write something like: \begin{itemize} \left . \item Issue1 \item Issue2 \right \} One and Two are cool \item Issue3 \end{itemize} This does not work because I am not in a math environment and I can not put the whole snippet inside a math environment because itemize would not work in that case. Is there a clean solution or a hack to produce my desired result? Regards, Bastian.

  • Send a "304 Not Modified" for images stored in the datastore

    - by Emilien
I store user-uploaded images in the Google App Engine datastore as db.Blob, as proposed in the docs. I then serve those images on /images/<id>.jpg. The server always sends a 200 OK response, which means that the browser has to download the same image multiple time (== slower) and that the server has to send the same image multiple times (== more expensive). As most of those images will likely never change, I'd like to be able to send a 304 Not Modified response. I am thinking about calculating some kind of hash of the picture when the user uploads it, and then use this to know if the user already has this image (maybe send the hash as an Etag?) I have found this answer and this answer that explain the logic pretty well, but I have 2 questions: Is it possible to send an Etag in Google App Engine? Has anyone implemented such logic, and/or is there any code snippet available?

  • Javascript unable to pass parameters into a property acting as a function

    - by BOverflow
Currently in a simplified form, my code looks like this function AddFileParam(file_id, name, value) { uploadcontrol.addFileParam(file_id, name, value) } uploadcontrol = new Upload() function upload() { //logic } upload.prototype.AddFileParam = function(file_id, name, value) { //logic }; The code is giving me an error as it states that addFileParam is not a valid function. This is caused by the instance of the function upload (aka. uploadcontrol). This is only occuring in Firefox/Chrome and not in IE. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • What is the difference between these Pentium Extreme Edition CPUs?

    - by Giffyguy
The CPU in question is the Pentium Extreme Edition 955. Intel's website shows four "versions", but for the most part they all look identical. They even share the same set of ordering codes. But one of them has a substantially lower TDP, which is seemingly unexplainable - since everything else is the same. Two of them say "LGA775, Tray" and I have no idea what "Tray" means either. Also, two of them have a different SPEC code. What I need to know is: What does "LGA775, Tray" mean? Why does the one CPU have a lower TDP? And what does that mean for me? Does that mean lower maximum power consumption? Does it mean the CPU may be more stable/endurant, because of a lower heat output? Why do two of them have a different SPEC code, and what does this mean? Finally, what does PLGA775 (as opposed to LGA775) mean, and do I need to be worried about that? Information from Intel's wbsite: Intel® Pentium® Processor Extreme Edition 955 (4M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code 1 Boxed Intel® Pentium® Processor Extreme Edition 955 4M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB LGA775 PLGA775 B1 95 Watts BX80553955 SL94N 2 Intel® Pentium® Processor Extreme Edition 955 4M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB LGA775, Tray PLGA775 B1 130 Watts HH80553PH0994M SL94N 3 Boxed Intel® Pentium® Processor Extreme Edition 955 4M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB LGA775 PLGA775 B1 130 Watts BX80553955 SL8WM 4 Intel® Pentium® Processor Extreme Edition 955 4M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB LGA775, Tray PLGA775 B1 130 Watts HH80553PH0994M SL8WM

  • Losing Windows Authentication intermittently

    - by Mark Robinson
I'm running a website on IIS6 / Server 2003 which uses Integrated Windows Authentication on a local intranet. I can browse to the site but get intermittent "Object null" errors when calling the following C# code which is called on every request: .... GetUserIdFromPrincipal(User) .... public static string GetUserIdFromPrincipal(IPrincipal principal) { return principal.Identity is WindowsIdentity ? (principal.Identity as WindowsIdentity).User.Value : principal.Identity.Name; } (Apologies for the code sample but was torn between SF and SO but think this is more to do with server config). So as the error is intermittent clearly Windows Auth is working on some level but after navigating around the site for several clicks I get the null reference error meaning IPrincipal is null (I thought this should never be null in ASP.NET). The error only happens on this newly built VM. The code is fine on other machines. Does IIS request the Windows Auth details on each request? What would cause such an intermittent problem? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Silverlight ItemsControl - change ItemTemplate

    - by Cornel
I have an ItemsControl with a list of radio buttons - in this case the ItemTemplate will contain a binded radio button. The problem is that in some cases I need to replace the radio button with a check box without using any C# code. Is this possible? I thought at using a ValueConverter (C# code) but I don't know for sure if will work.

  • Static lock in Python?

    - by roddik
Hello. I've got the following code: import time import threading class BaseWrapper: #static class lock = threading.Lock() @staticmethod def synchronized_def(): BaseWrapper.lock.acquire() time.sleep(5) BaseWrapper.lock.release() def test(): print time.ctime() if __name__ is '__main__': for i in xrange(10): threading.Thread(target = test).start() I want to have a method synchronized using static lock. However the above code prints the same time ten times, so it isn't really locking. How can I fix it? TIA

  • How to clone repository to a remote server/repository with Mercurial

    - by Alex N.
Found myself quite confused today about this. I create a blank repository locally(hg init), cloned it to working copy, added some code, commited and pushed it(to local repo obviously). Now I need to share that repository with others. There is a server that has mercurial on it, how do I clone my repository to a remote one such that other developers can access it and pull/push code from/to it?

  • Rails 3: How do I call a javascript function from a js.erb file

    - by user321775
    Now that I've upgraded to Rails 3, I'm trying to figure out the proper way to separate and reuse pieces of javascript. Here's the scenario I'm dealing with: I have a page with two areas: one with elements that should be draggable, the other with droppables. When the page loads I use jQuery to setup the draggables and droppables. Currently I have the script in the head portion of application.html.erb, which I'm sure is not the right solution but at least works. When I press a button on the page, an ajax call is made to my controller that replaces the draggables with a new set of elements that should also be draggable. I have a js.erb file that renders a partial in the correct location. After rendering I need to make the new elements draggable, so I'd like to reuse the code that currently lives in application.html.erb, but I haven't found the right way to do it. I can only make the new elements draggable by pasting the code directly into my js.erb file (yuck). What I'd like to have: - a javascript file that contains the functions prepdraggables() and prepdroppables() - a way to call either function from application.html.erb or from a js.erb file I've tried using :content_for to store and reuse the code, but can't seem to get it working correctly. What I currently have in the head section of application.html.erb <% content_for :drag_drop_prep do %> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(document).ready(function () { // declare all DOM elements with class draggable to be draggable $( ".draggable" ).draggable( { revert : 'invalid' }); // declare all DOM elements with class legal to be droppable $(".legal").droppable({ hoverClass : 'legal_hover', drop : function(event, ui) { var c = new Object(); c['die'] = ui.draggable.attr("id"); c['cell'] = $(this).attr("id"); c['authenticity_token'] = encodeURIComponent(window._token); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/placeDie", data: c, timeout: 5000 }); }}); }); </script> <% end %> undo.js.erb $("#board").html("<%= escape_javascript(render :partial => 'shared/board', :locals => { :playable => true, :restartable => !session[:challenge]}) %>") // This is where I want to prepare draggables. <%= javascript_include_tag "customdragdrop.js" %> // assuming this file had the draggables code from above in a prepdraggables() function prepdraggables();

  • Javascript: Inline function vs predefined functions

    - by glaz666
Can any body throw me some arguments for using inline functions against passing predefined function name to some handler. I.e. which is better: (function(){ setTimeout(function(){ /*some code here*/ }, 5); })(); versus (function(){ function invokeMe() { /*code*/ } setTimeout(invokeMe, 5); })(); Strange question, but we are almost fighting in the team about this

  • API sanity autotest help needed

    - by rmk
I am trying to auto-generate Unit Tests for my C code using API sanity autotest. But, the problem is that it is somewhat complex to use, and some tutorials / howto / other resources on how to use it would be really helpful. Have you had any luck with API sanity autotest? Do you think there's a better tool that can be used to auto-generate unit tests for C code?

  • GCC how to block system calls within a program?

    - by CMPITG
Does anyone tell me how to block system calls within a program, please? I am building a system which takes a piece of C source code, compiles it with gcc and runs it. For security reasons, I need to prevent the compiled program from calling system calls. Is there any way to do it, from the source code level (e.g. stripping the header files of gcc, detecting malicious external calls, ...) to the executable level?
