  • half or quarter black screen in android

    - by Mike McKeown
    I have an android activity that when I launch sometimes (about 1 in 4 times) it only draws quarter or half the screen before showing it. When I change the orientation or press a button the screen draws properly. I'm just using TextViews, Buttons, Fonts - no drawing or anything like that. All of my code for initialising is in the onCreate(). In this method I'm loading a text file, of about 40 lines long, and also getting a shared preference. Could this cause a delay so that it can't draw the intent? Thanks in advance if anyone has seen anything similar. EDIT - I tried commenting out the loading of the word list, but it didn't fix the problem. Here is the activity <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/mainRelativeLayout" • Android: Make application background behave like homescreen background

    - by Mannaz
    Hi, I have a big background image for my views's background, which also can be tiled (it's repeadable). When switching from one Activity to another i want the background to behave like on the homescreen (the background moves only a bit, but the foreground moves one screen with). Is this possible and how? Here is my current background definition: Manifest.xml: <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name" android:theme="@style/MyAppStyle"> styles.xml: <style name="MyAppStyle" parent="@android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar"> <item name="android:windowBackground">@drawable/window_background_descriptor</item> window_background_descriptor.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <bitmap xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:src="@drawable/window_background" android:tileMode="repeat" />

  • Android: Changing LinearLayout in a widget.

    - by Profete162
    Hello all, I have this really annoying problem: In my widget, i would like to change the background by code. I noticed on the Google doc than I can easily change the background of an Imageview: remoteViews.setImageViewResource(R.id.my_iv, R.drawable.my_bg); Ok, too easy, i want to change now the Linear layout.. What I read about the remoteview id that I can change a Bitmap, Int, Bool, String, etc... but not a drawable. So i guess i cannot use: remoteViews.setBitmap(R.id.my_ll,"setBackgroundDrawable",BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawablemy_bg)); I am totally disapointed and tried a last idea: views.setInt(R.id.my_ll,"setBackgroundResource",R.drawable.my_bg); But The logcat told me: android.widget.RemoteViews$ActionException:view: android.widget.LinearLayout can't use method with RemoteViews: setBackgroundResource(int) I am totally lost and I really don't know what to do... I would really appreciate any help. Thank a lot!

  • Android Map Performance poor because of many Overlays?

    - by Dave
    Hi, I have a map in my android application that shows many markers (~20-50). But the app performs very poor when i try to scroll/zoom (in Google Android Maps i did a sample search for pizza and there were also some 20-50 results found and i didn't notice any particular performance problems when zooming/scrolling through the map). Here is my (pseudo)code: onCreate() { .... drawable = this.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.marker1); itemizedOverlay = new MyItemizedOverlay(drawable,mapView); ... callWebServiceToRetrieveData(); createMarkers(); } createMarkers(){ for(elem:bigList){ GeoPoint geoPoint = new GeoPoint((int)(elem.getLat()*1000000), (int) (elem.getLon()*1000000)); OverlayItem overlayItem = new OverlayItem(geoPoint, elem.getName(), elem.getData()); itemizedOverlay.addOverlay(overlayItem); mapOverlays.add(itemizedOverlay); } mapView.invalidate(); } the MyItemizedOverlay.addOverlay looks like this: public void addOverlay(OverlayItem overlay) { m_overlays.add(overlay); populate(); }

  • Why is android:FLAG_BLUR_BEHIND creating a gradient background in my new activity instead of bluring

    - by nderraugh
    Hi, I've got two activities. One is supposed to be a blur in front of the other. The background activity has several ImageViews which are set up as thin gradients extending across most of the screen and 10dip high. When I start the second activity it sets the background as a gradient occupying the entire window space, that is it appears to be fill_parent'd for both height and width. If I comment out the ImageViews then it blurs and looks as expected. Any thoughts? Here's the code doing the blur. import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.view.WindowManager; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; public class TransluscentBlurSummaryB extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_BLUR_BEHIND, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_BLUR_BEHIND); getWindow().getAttributes().dimAmount = 0.5f; getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DIM_BEHIND, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DIM_BEHIND); setContentView(R.layout.sheetbdetails); OnClickListener clickListener = new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { TransluscentBlurSummaryB.this.finish(); } }; findViewById(R.id.sheetbdetailstable).setOnClickListener(clickListener); } } And here's the layout with the ImageView gradients. <?xml version="1.0" • Gallery items become off-center when switching into landscape orientation.

    - by Sandile
    Hey Guys, Thanks for your time. I'm writing an application for android 2.2 and I'm using a gallery to circulate through a list of images that the user can then click to navigate other portions of the application. In portrait orientation, everything is kosher: the images are displaying correctly (completely in the center of the screen as I intended); however, in landscape orientation, all the images in the gallery are strangely displaced a fixed distance to the left of the center of the screen. I've been researching this issue for hours now and haven't found a solution. I'm hoping that some android guru can aid me in the resolution of this bizarre rendering issue. MainMenuActivity.java relevant code snippet (the activity in which the gallery resides) Gallery optionList = (Gallery)findViewById(R.id.mainMenuOptionList); GalleryItem[] optionListItemIdArray = new GalleryItem[] { new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_blackboard, "Start Next Lesson", "Start the next planned vocab lesson."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_index_cards, "Review Words", "Manually look over old words."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_dice, "Play Vocab Games", "Play games to reinforce knowledge."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_calendar, "View Lesson Plan", "View the schedule for coming lessons."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_pie_chart, "View Performance Report", "Evaluate your overall performance statistics."), new GalleryItem(R.drawable.icon_main_menu_option_list_settings, "Manage Settings", "Change and modify application settings.") }; optionList.setAdapter(new GalleryImageAdapter(this, optionListItemIdArray)); NOTE: A GalleryItem is a POJO with an image resource id, title and description. GalleryImageAdapter.java: public class GalleryImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private Context context; private GalleryItem[] galleryItemArray; public GalleryImageAdapter(Context context, GalleryItem[] galleryItemArray) { this.context = context; • Why is my launcher icon smaller when placed on the Android desktop?

    - by Richard
    I have an application built for 1.5 and I am adding higher resolution drawables to support hdpi devices in 1.6 and above. My original application icon is 48x48. I created a second launcher icon that is 72x72 and placed it in a res/drawable-hdpi/ directory. When I install the application on my Nexus One the icon looks good when I view it in the application menu. But when I place it on the desktop it appears small relative to other icons, my guess is I'm seeing the 48x48 version with no scaling. These are my two resource directories: res/drawable/appicon.png res/drawable-hdpi/appicon.png Do I need to do something differently either with my directory structure or my manifest file to get things to display correctly? Thanks!

  • Uniquely Identify ImageButtons placed Programmatically

    Hi, I have been placing several ImageButtons programmatically in a TableLayout, every ImageButton has it's own Drawable resource as a Background. I use an XML description for the layout of the ImageButton itself and afterwards use the LayoutInflater to retrieve such an ImageButton (called genre_cell.xml): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ImageButton xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/genreCellItemId" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal" android:paddingLeft="5dip" android:paddingRight="5dip"> </ImageButton> And in my class I do : myButton = (ImageButton) inflater.inflate(R.layout.genre_cell, row, false); I have actually attached an onClickListener on every ImageButton, but now I'd like to uniquely identify which ImageButton has been clicked... I thought that maybe I could somehow retrieve the Drawable's ID used for the background and check that one with the available Drawable's int values ? Is this an option and if so how should it be implemented ? Also are there any other options ?

  • How to create a GtkImage from a Cairo context?

    - by Zurbo82
    I got a paint function that works using a Cairo context and the end result should be a GtkImage (without intermediate image creation). I tried to use the gdk_cairo_create function but this code: ... GdkPixbuf *pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new (GDK_COLORSPACE_RGB, FALSE, 8, 22, 22); GtkWidget *image = gtk_image_new_from_pixbuf (pixbuf); GdkDrawable *drawable = image->window; cairo_t *ctx = gdk_cairo_create (drawable); my_cairo_paint_function (ctx); ... fails with: Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_cairo_create: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed Same with a simple: #include <gtk/gtk.h> #include <cairo.h> int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { gtk_init(&argc, &argv); cairo_t *ctx = gdk_cairo_create (gtk_widget_get_window (gtk_image_new_from_file ("foobar.png"))); gtk_main(); return 0; } I don't understand why this fails. Any help is appreciated!

  • Show transparent color filter on a View after clicking it

    - by Maarten
    So. You know how when you click a post in the Google+ app, the entire View becomes blue. I want to do that as well, but with an ImageView. I have the following code snippet, setting the actual image as the background and the selector as the main resource. This looks good, but doesn't respect scaleType for the background image: <ImageView android:id="@+id/painting_image" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="200dp" android:background="@drawable/img" android:src="@drawable/selector" android:scaleType="centerCrop" /> By the way, @drawable/selector is just a selector that shows a tranparent color for state_pressed: <item android:state_pressed="true"> <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <solid android:color="#44521400" /> </shape></item> How can I make this work while respecting the scaleType?

  • Efficiently using position to control actions

    - by John Ashmore
    I want to use position (returned from a gridview for e.g.) or a similar numeric integer to do various things, e.g. create a sprite, or in any command that wants something other than a number, e.g. I want to use something like: sprites.add(createSprite(R.drawable.image(position)); , where createSprite creates a sprite using the image supplied, instead of: if (position == 1) {sprites.add(createSprite(R.drawable.image1);} if (position == 2) {sprites.add(createSprite(R.drawable.image2);} ...etc There is an easy solution for strings: Most efficient method to use position to open a .java but what about for situations like this one?

  • how to draw a Bitmap to a Canvas with a variable alpha

    - by steelbytes
    Hi, I'm trying to draw a Bitmap to a Canvas with a variable amount of alpha. But I only get nothing (when alpha<255) or the 'full' bitmap (when alpha==255). Have also tried loading as a Drawable, and using drawable.setAlpha, but that gave the same result. my init BitmapFactory.Options opts = new BitmapFactory.Options(); opts.inScaled = false; opts.inSampleSize = 1; Bitmap img = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(),R.drawable.sample,opts); my onDraw() Paint p = new Paint(Paint.ANTI_ALIAS_FLAG|Paint.FILTER_BITMAP_FLAG); p.setColor((alpha<<24)+0xffffff); // alpha in range 0..255 canvas.drawBitmap(img, null, imgRect, p);

  • Centering ToggleButton Image - With No Text

    - by KickingLettuce
    Here is my ToggleButton: <ToggleButton android:id="@+id/bSmenuTopItems" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="48dp" android:background="@drawable/master_button_selector" android:drawableLeft="@drawable/flame_icon" /> I have no text in this image, I need a ToggleButton due to Active State. EDIT: I think question was misunderstood. There is a drawable inside the Toggle Button (flame_icon) and it is set as background. I want it to be centered. There is no Text, just an image. I need a Toggle Button because I need to have an Active State when selected. There is only drawableLeft, drawableRight, drawableTop, etc. I want a draweableMiddle that doesn't seem to exisit.

  • Android Alert Dialog Extract User Choice Radio Button?

    - by kel196
    Apologies for any coding ignorance, I am a beginner and am still learning! I am creating a quiz app which reads questions off a SQL database and plots them as points on a google map. As the user clicks each point, an alert dialog appears with radio buttons to answer some question. My radiobuttons are in CustomItemizedOverlay file and when I click submit, I want to be able to send the user choice back to the database, save it and return to the user if their answer is correct. My question is this, how do I pass the user choice out once the submit button has been clicked? I tried making a global variable to read what was selected to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated! If I need to post any other code, please ask and I will do so ASAP! package uk.ac.ucl.cege.cegeg077.uceskkw; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.widget.Toast; import com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay; import com.google.android.maps.OverlayItem; public class CustomItemizedOverlay2 extends ItemizedOverlay<OverlayItem> { private ArrayList<OverlayItem> mapOverlays = new ArrayList<OverlayItem>(); private Context context; public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker) { super(boundCenterBottom(defaultMarker)); } public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker, Context context) { this(defaultMarker); this.context = context; } @Override protected OverlayItem createItem(int i) { return mapOverlays.get(i); } @Override public int size() { return mapOverlays.size(); } @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { OverlayItem item = mapOverlays.get(index); // gets the snippet from ParseKMLAndDisplayOnMap and splits it back into // a string. final CharSequence allanswers[] = item.getSnippet().split("::"); AlertDialog.Builder dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(context); dialog.setIcon(R.drawable.easterbunnyegg); dialog.setTitle(item.getTitle()); dialog.setSingleChoiceItems(allanswers, -1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { Toast.makeText(context, "You have selected " + allanswers[whichButton], Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); dialog.setPositiveButton(R.string.button_submit, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // int selectedPosition = ((AlertDialog) // dialog).getListView().getCheckedItemPosition(); Toast.makeText(context, "hi!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT) .show(); } }); dialog.setNegativeButton(R.string.button_close, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // on cancel button action } }); AlertDialog question = dialog.create(); question.show(); return true; } public void addOverlay(OverlayItem overlay) { mapOverlays.add(overlay); this.populate(); } }

  • Changing the appearance of a custom android checkbox without the image scaling?

    - by Joren
    I have a custom checkbox with these attributes: android:id="@+id/map_toolbar_details" android:layout_width="80px" android:layout_height="106px" android:scaleType="center" macro:selectedResource="@drawable/map_toolbar_details_selected" android:button="@drawable/map_toolbar_details" When I load it up, the image gets stretched, even though it's set to scaleType center. If I set a background, I do not have this problem.

  • Android - Custom Icons in ListView

    - by Ryan
    Is there any way to place a custom icon for each group item? Like for phone I'd like to place a phone, for housing I'd like to place a house. Here is my code, but it keeps throwing a Warning and locks up on me. ListView myList = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.myList); //ExpandableListAdapter adapter = new MyExpandableListAdapter(data); List<Map<String, Object>> groupData = new ArrayList<Map<String, Object>>(); Iterator it = data.entrySet().iterator(); while (it.hasNext()) { //Get the key name and value for it Map.Entry pair = (Map.Entry)it.next(); String keyName = (String) pair.getKey(); String value = pair.getValue().toString(); //Add the parents -- aka main categories Map<String, Object> curGroupMap = new HashMap<String, Object>(); groupData.add(curGroupMap); if (value == "Phone") curGroupMap.put("ICON", findViewById(R.drawable.phone)); else if (value == "Housing") curGroupMap.put("NAME", keyName); curGroupMap.put("VALUE", value); } // Set up our adapter mAdapter = new SimpleAdapter( mContext, groupData, R.layout.exp_list_parent, new String[] { "ICON", "NAME", "VALUE" }, new int[] { R.id.iconImg, R.id.rowText1, R.id.rowText2 } ); myList.setAdapter(mAdapter); The error i'm getting: 05-28 17:36:21.738: WARN/System.err(494): java.io.IOException: Is a directory 05-28 17:36:21.809: WARN/System.err(494): at org.apache.harmony.luni.platform.OSFileSystem.readImpl(Native Method) 05-28 17:36:21.838: WARN/System.err(494): at org.apache.harmony.luni.platform.OSFileSystem.read(OSFileSystem.java:158) 05-28 17:36:21.851: WARN/System.err(494): at java.io.FileInputStream.read(FileInputStream.java:319) 05-28 17:36:21.879: WARN/System.err(494): at java.io.BufferedInputStream.fillbuf(BufferedInputStream.java:183) 05-28 17:36:21.908: WARN/System.err(494): at java.io.BufferedInputStream.read(BufferedInputStream.java:346) 05-28 17:36:21.918: WARN/System.err(494): at android.graphics.BitmapFactory.nativeDecodeStream(Native Method) 05-28 17:36:21.937: WARN/System.err(494): at android.graphics.BitmapFactory.decodeStream(BitmapFactory.java:459) 05-28 17:36:21.948: WARN/System.err(494): at android.graphics.BitmapFactory.decodeFile(BitmapFactory.java:271) 05-28 17:36:21.958: WARN/System.err(494): at android.graphics.BitmapFactory.decodeFile(BitmapFactory.java:296) 05-28 17:36:21.978: WARN/System.err(494): at android.graphics.drawable.Drawable.createFromPath(Drawable.java:801) 05-28 17:36:21.988: WARN/System.err(494): at android.widget.ImageView.resolveUri(ImageView.java:501) 05-28 17:36:21.998: WARN/System.err(494): at android.widget.ImageView.setImageURI(ImageView.java:289) Thanks in advance for your help!!

  • Scale background image to wrap content of layout

    - by bjg222
    I have a layout that contains some text fields and has a background image that's displayed at the top of my activity. I'd like the background image to scale to wrap the content (don't care about aspect ratio). However, the image is larger than content, so the layout instead wraps the background image. Here's my original code: <RelativeLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/HeaderList" android:layout_gravity="top" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@drawable/header"> <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/NameText" android:text="Jhn Doe" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:textSize="30sp" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:paddingLeft="4dp" android:paddingTop="4dp" /> <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:id="@+id/HoursText" android:text="170 hours" android:textSize="23sp" android:layout_below="@+id/NameText" android:paddingLeft="4dp" /> </RelativeLayout> After searching through some other questions, I found these two: How to wrap content views rather than background drawable? Scale a Drawable or background image? Based on this, I created a FrameLayout w/ an ImageView showing the background. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I want the height of the background image to shrink/expand w/ the size of the text views, but with the FrameLayout, the ImageView fits to the size of it's parent, and I can't find a way to make the parent fit to the size the text view layout. Here's my updated code: <FrameLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <ImageView android:src="@drawable/header" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:scaleType="fitXY" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> <RelativeLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/HeaderList" android:layout_gravity="top" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/NameText" android:text="John Doe" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:textSize="30sp" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:paddingLeft="4dp" android:paddingTop="4dp" /> <TextView android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:id="@+id/HoursText" android:text="170 hours" android:textSize="23sp" android:layout_below="@+id/NameText" android:paddingLeft="4dp" /> </RelativeLayout> </FrameLayout> Does anybody have any suggestions for how best to make an image scale to the size of the contents of some layout? I'm not concerned with the aspect ratio of the image, as it won't matter, I just want it to fill the background. Thanks!
