• Magento - Users unable to login from corporate networks with Bluecoat / F5 Load balancers

  Hoping someone has come across this issue before with Magento and corporate clients. We have two clients for our Magento site who both have their internal networks setup using bluecoat security devices and F5 load balancers. Some users within these networks are unable to login to Magento - Magento eventually is sending a 302 redirect to /index.php/ when users attempt to log in. Through our testing, the problem appears to be isolated to this setup - we can log into the accounts in question from anywhere outside of these networks without issue, and if the client tries to access the site without going through the F5 load balancer, they are able to log in successfully. Strangely enough, the issue only started occurring for the two sites the day after we introduced a system upgrade which added a new site to the Magento installation. The system upgrade should not have affected any standard login functionality, and as said, the problem does not appear to be with the users in question, but with where the users are accessing the site from. Initially we thought the issue might have something to do with communications between the client's networks and the network which the server was hosted on, so we've tried moving the server to different hosts, but this has not helped. I'm currently waiting for more info from the clients on exact devices / models used in their network setup. I will update this post if more information becomes avaliable. Magento version is enterprise edition of ver. 1.9.0.0 Does anyone know of any tucked away Magento settings that might be able to cause this kind of behavior? Experience with this kind of set-up and ideas for things to look at? All help and ideas for things to follow-up would be appreciated - as this is a current production issue for a large number of users. I will respond asap with any requests for additional information on the topic, but currently am not able to disclose any identifying information on the project in question, and/or the clients experiencing issues. • Why Does Wireless Gear Degrade Over Time?

  I saw this originally posted on slashdot, but their comment format is not conducive to actually getting a correct answer. Having directly experienced this phenomenon myself, I'm now asking here where I think I can actually get an educated answer. Here's the original question verbatim: Lately I have replaced several home wireless routers because the signal strength has been found to be degraded. These devices, when new (2+ years ago) would cover an entire house. Over the years, the strength seems to decrease to a point where it might only cover one or two rooms. Of the three that I have replaced for friends, I have not found a common brand, age, etc. It just seems that after time, the signal strength decreases. I know that routers are cheap and easy to replace but I'm curious what actually causes this. I would have assumed that the components would either work or not work; we would either have a full signal or have no signal. I am not an electrical engineer and I can't find the answer online so I'm reaching out to you. Can someone explain how a transmitter can slowly go bad? Common (incorrect, but repeated) answers from slashdot include: Back then your neighbors didn't have wifi, now they do. They drowning you out. I don't think this is likely because replacing the access point with a new one and using the same frequencies solves the problem. Older devices had low transmit power. Crank that baby. As mentioned by a FreeBSD wireless developer this violates regulations and can physically damage the equipment. It was also mentioned that higher power in one direction is not necessarily reciprocated. This shows higher bars, but not necessarily a better connection. Manufacturers make cheap crap designed to wear out. This one actually may be legitimate although it is overly broad. What specifically causes damage over time? Heat? Excessive power? So can anyone provide an informed answer on this? Is there any way to fix these older access points?

• Mouse button and keypress counter for Windows XP

  I am trying to kick the habit of using a mouse where I could use keyboard shortcuts, for ergonomic reasons. I believe that if I see some statistics of my use of both input devices, I could reduce my use of mouse clicks. Do you know of any free software I can install on my Windows XP machine that counts keypresses and mouse button presses and displays an hourly/daily report? No fancy GUI is needed - just two summary lines.

• Determining the health of a Cisco switch port?

  I've been chasing a packet-loss and network stability issue for a handful of end-users on an internal network for the past few days... These issues surfaced recently, however, the location was struck by lightning six weeks ago. I was seeing 5-10% packet loss between a stack of four Cisco 2960's and several PC's and phones on the other side of a 77-meter run. The PC's were run inline with the phones over a trunked link. We were seeing dropped calls and interruptions in client-server applications and Microsoft Exchange connectivity. I tried the usual troubleshooting steps remotely, having a local technician do the following during breaks in user and production activity: change cables between the wall jack and device. change patch cables between the patch panel and switch port(s). try different switch ports within the 2960 stack. change end-user devices with known-good equipment (new phones, different PC's). clear switch port interface counters and monitor incrementing errors closely. (Pastebin output of sh int) Pored over the device logs and Observium RRD graphs. No link up/down issues from the switch side. change power strips on the end-user side. test cable runs from the Cisco 2960 using test cable-diagnostics tdr int Gi4/0/9 (clean)* test cable runs with a Tripp-Lite cable tester. (clean) run diagnostics on the switch stack members. (clean) In the end, it took three changes of switch ports to find a stable solution. The only logical conclusion is that a few Cisco 2960 switch ports are bad or flaky... Not dead, but not consistent in behavior either. I'm not used to seeing individual ports die in this manner. What else can I test or check to determine if these devices are bad? Is it common for single ports to have problems, rather than a contiguous bank of ports? • Ubuntu 9.1 - Audio coming from both speakers and headphones

  I have an HP Compaq nc8230 that has an annoying little problem with it's audio devices in Ubuntu 9.1. When I have the headphones plugged in, the audio continues to play simultaneously through the speakers no matter what. I'm not sure what kind of sound card this computer has, but in WIndows XP, Vista, 7 and OSx86 I didn't have this problem. I've tried using 3 different headphones and it didn't change anything. Please help.

• Low framerate on background apps

  My problem is that when a game is running in the foreground, in Full Screen mode, any applications on my second monitor (such as youtube videos, videos, not app specific) drop their frame-rate to about 2-3 FPS. It seems like some sort of power management option that I can't track down. As far as I can tell, it's not due to the GPU not being able to keep up. For instance, my PC can play League of Legends at about 280FPS when the framerate is uncapped. For example, in Linux, strip-down to a bare minimum all unecessary binaries, daemons, utilities, tune kernel parameters, optimize raw and cooked devices (hdparm). Someday, maybe, informix can create its own proprietary PICK-like O/S. The general idea is for the OS where ifx sits on have the smallest footprint, lowest overhead impact on ifx and provide optimized ifx performance.

• Netgear WG311 v2 not identified on Windows 7

  I have a Netgear WG311 v2 wireless card. It was working fine on vista. Now I have installed Windows 7 and the device is not identified. Device Manager shows it as an Ethernet card. When I update the driver using the list provided with the Windows distribution. It shows it under Wireless devices in Device Manager but it says device cannot start code 10. Any idea on how to install it.

• No option to connect to wireless network

  I don't have any option to connect to wireless. It just doesn't appear in the taskbar at all - even the no wireless networks were found doesn't appear. In network connections, I only have the option of using a wired connection. According to device manager, I have a working VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter (this device only appeared after I selected showing hidden devices). I have already attempted restarting the computer a few times. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• Enterprise Tape Backup solutions

  I'm currently attempting to re-architect a backup solution where I'm working. We've got 2 NAS devices, one in the office, one in the datacentre. The servers in the DC back up to the DC NAS, which is then replicated to the Office NAS. The office NAS exports shares as CIFS and NFS, this bit is fine. At some point, I'll have to expand our storage capacity, currently we've got about 1.4TB of storage space, which is about 96% full. Previously, the tape backup was a script that ran tar a few times and squirted data onto a tape. It worked, but was by no means a perfect solution. Restores are a bit of a pest, adding new data to the backup requires editing the script as root. It's just all a bit non-ideal. I've been evaluating a number of "enterprise" ready backup solutions, such as Yosemite Backup from Barracuda, Acronis Backup/Restore, and something from Arkeia. In the process of evaluating these, I've found 2 big problems. Not all of them allow backup of mounted devices (such as a NFS mounted NAS) Many of these applications don't like our tape device. For the most part, (1) is essential. Our NAS has a feeble processor and can't run applications like backup agents. I suspect that the biggest problem is the tape device, which is a HP C7438A DAT72 connected via USB. Questions: Has anyone else got an USB DAT72 device working with similar software? Is there a better way to back up data from an "appliance" NAS device on which you can't run an agent? Would I be totally out of my mind to specify a cheap HP or Dell server with a couple of 1TB hard disks, and a SAS card to then talk to an HP Ultrium (or similar) device? The biggest drawback to this would be cost (400ish for the server, 200 for the SAS connectivity and 1700 for a LTO4 device) Notes: I'd love to be able to say that I'd get rid of tapes entirely, and use some form of hard disk backup. In a previous job, we had LaCie USB drives, which were decidedly unreliable.

• Blackberry device GPS hardware specs [closed]

  I'm looking to find out detailed specifications for the built-in GPS hardware in the Blackberry Bold and Curve devices (9000 and 8350). RIM's documentation includes just a rudimentary description of the specs, but I'm looking for things like the actual detailed hardware/chipset info so we can research the accuracy needs for some upcoming projects we have. Knowing simply "A-GPS support" isn't really good enough... Does anyone know of any resources for finding advanced specs for built-in Blackberry hardware?
