• Connect a 2.5" (laptop hard disk) SATA hard disk to Desktop PC

  Can I connect a laptop SATA hard disk to Desktop PC? Do I have to use some adapters or I can just plug in SATA power connector and SATA data cable like my Desktop hard disk is connected? I noticed that both laptop and desktop SATA disks use same connectors, but I'm afraid that I might fry my laptop hard disk because the SATA connector has both 12V and 5V voltage (given the fact that laptop hard disks has input voltage of 5V) I bought a all-in-one Modex-to-SATA power adapter and SATA cable and I still don't know what to do. I have read various forums and a lot of people are stating that it's perfectly ok, but some are scaring me that by connecting it so, it fried their hard disk. And some also mentioned cutting the yellow 12V wire if I'm planning to use Modex-to-SATA power. Thanks in advance

• Postgres error messages in Apache error log

  I'm running Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2, and Postgres 8.2 on Windows, and I'm seeing something funky in Apache's error.log file. Occasionally, I'll see the message "row number -1 is out of range 0..-1" pop up over and over. Unlike all the other lines in that log file, there's no timestamp or log level. Just that exact string. Googling around, it appears that message is, character for character, a common Postgres error message, but is not an Apache error. I've seen it happen multiple times, and on several different servers. I can't seem to reproduce it, though. I've tried throwing all sorts of error ridden database queries and result set inquiries at Postgres via PHP, and none of them seem to trigger that line being written to the log file. Is it possible for Postgres errors to be ending up in my Apache log file, and if so, how? What would trigger an error message like that? Thanks!

• Joining an Active Directory domain using netdom

  I have a simple script to join an AD domain and rename the computer. When I execute these commands directly on the CLI, it works fine. When I execute the same via batch file, I get an error saying The network path was not found I am running as Administrator with full privileges. I have googled around microsoft forums but my case is unique because it works from the CLI and not from the batch file netdom join %%computername%% /domain:OPSCODEDEMO.COM /userd:Administrator /passwordd:xxx netdom renamecomputer %%computername%% /NewName:%hostname% /Force The environment is Windows 2k8 R2 SP1 running on Ninefold Cloud (Xenserver).

• Easy Linux distribution with newer packages than Ubuntu?

  I'm a programmer and sysadmin, and I'm looking for a better Linux distro to use than Ubuntu. It certainly is a well-polished, nice distribution to use, but a lot of the programs available in the Ubuntu repositories are very old versions. Installing PPA's or compiling from source just isn't very nice. I'd love to use something like Arch Linux that uses a rolling release cycle, but I really don't want to configure my system from scratch, and support for ATI Catalyst drivers is necessary. I just want to pop the CD in, install and start using my computer - just like with Ubuntu. Additionally, if you know of a package like ubuntu-restricted-extras for the distribution, that'd be nice! What do you suggest?

• Major Issue with Asus M4A78T-E Bios

  I am having major issues with my bios and I have tried three different forums in hopes that there is someone out there that can help me.... The issue is that every single time I turn off my computer, when I turn it back on the bios resets and tries to boot from a floppy drive....first problem is I dont have a floppy drive and secondly it does not read my HDD.... I tried everything to fix this...I tried replacing the cmos battery, I tried replacing the sata cable, and I tried a different sata port....none of these things seem to be working. Now the messed up part about all of this is that i am on my computer right now....If I take the battery out and put it back in and setup the bios again manually I am able to get into my computer...but this is NOT normal... Why is my bios resetting constantly when I power down my computer? Please assist me I need my computer for business

• Verizon HTC Eris - No sound on incoming phone call after 2.1 droid upgrade. Help!?

  Has anyone had the following issue? I've had several issues as well: No sound when call connects, ringing or people talking. Apps would force close like weather. I did call HTC support and they had me go into Menu, Settings, Manage Applications and then clear the cache of the problem app. They also had me clear the cache once the browser was open and then do a soft reset (power off the phone and take the battery out for 15 seconds) This did fix some issues, but I am constantly turning my phone on and off to get sound back on call or to make the assigned ringtones work. There's no rhyme or reason as to why they stop working... Anyone else tried anything different??? Related problem statement... http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/32/p/2601/10344.aspx#10344 My wife and I are most concerned about the incoming call issue.

• Snow Leopard: MySQL doesn't start

  Hi, I have updated to Snow Leopard and I removed mysql by following this post: http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?11,75256,255853#msg-255853 After that I have installed the mysql 64 bit community edition, but using the prefpane MySQL doesn't start. • iTunes Title Bar is Equal to the Location of the Library file?

  I have never been able to get a clear answer on why the latest edition of iTunes does this. I have my entire iTunes library located in C:\itunes\ and the library data files inside C:\itunes\!library_info for backup purposes. However when version 9 of iTunes came out it went from having iTunes as the title, to !library_info. Anyway to get around this without moving my data files away? Annoying "feature" if that is what it is. Again Apple support and forums were of no help to me. Anyone have insight on this? • All my folders and files on my flash drive have been renamed automatically and I can no longer open them... I need those files

  I opened up my flash drive this morning and all of my folders and files are normal, except for one folder and all its included files, which is the most important folder. The subfolders and files are renamed with bizarre characters and when I click to open them, a pop-up appears saying it's not accessible and the filename or directory name is incorrect. I don't want to reformat the flash drive because I'd lose all those files. Is there a way for me to restore it or something? I would attach a screen shot, but apparently new users do not have that privilege. If you have a vague idea of what I'm talking about, let me know and I can email you screenshots so you can have a better understanding. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• verisign certificate into jboss server SSL

• Can my email address be revoked? [closed]

  I did some work with an organization and had a falling out, so I left them. They used postfix to have [email protected], and I had one. I set up gmail to get my mail via POP as well as to "send mail as @_.com". I think for a long time they forgot to delete my email address and now it seems that I can send but not receive mail at the address. What could a possible explanation for this be? Can they revoke delivery but not sending from the address? Why would they only revoke one if they cna revoke both? Is it more tedious or difficult a task to revoke sending? Thanks

• Aruba Wireless Controller 200 and AP70 manual

  I have an Aruba wireless system that is currently in use but there is no documentation from the previous person in charge. I have no manuals or login information for the wireless controllers and APs. I checked the Aruba website and you need to register to access the support information but registration isn't instant and takes several days. I've waited for quite a while now and have tried googling and checking the Aruba forums but have found no indication of a manual. What I really need is the ability to reset the controller and APs so I can access the device with the default username and password. There is no reset button on this device so I have no idea how you go about resetting the controller and APs. Hm it seems I can't create a new tag as a new user. If possible can someone add an "Aruba" tag?

• Running Windows without administrative rights?

  Hello, Among the millions of applications written for Windows, I assume there are probably quite a lot that are too old or too sloppy to run without administrative rights. To convert users to using non-admin accounts in their day-to-day use of Windows, I need a tool that will sort applications between those than can run safely as non-admin and those that expect to have those rights and will thus show some obvious or not-so-obvious wrong behavior as a result. Does someone know of such a tool that would be available for XP/Vista/7, and either scan the whole disk for unsafe applications, or would be started at boot time and lurk in the background so that it would show a pop-up and report applications that triggered an error because of this lack of admin rights?   I'm getting the above mentioned error when backing up with ZRM, which is using mysqldump for backup. mysqldump --opt --extended-insert --single-transaction --create-options --default-character-set=utf8 --user=" " -p --all-databases "/nfs/backup/mysql01/dailyrun/20091216043001/backup.sql" mysqldump: Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table TICKET_ATTACHMENT at row: 2286 I have increased the size for 'max_allowed_packet' to be 1G in /etc/my.cnf which is the server setting and for the client side setting I've set it by running this command: mysql -u -p --max_allowed_packet=1G And I have verified that on the client and server side they are of the same value. • If fiber runs 1gig fine, are there any concerns when considering upgrading to 10gig transceivers?

  We had fiber installed (connecting ~10 buildings) around 5 years ago and it has been working great. The initial setup involved Procurve 2848 and 2824 switches w/ 1gig transceivers. However, lately we have been considering upgrading our network both to increase bandwidth and possibly add VOIP. However, a lot of this is assuming that we can just use pop the existing fiber into 10gig XFP transceivers in better switches and call it a day. If the fiber works fine at 1G does that mean it should be fine for 10gig? If not, how can we confirm that our existing fiber trunks will work, preferably in an affordable fashion?

  I'm attempting to change the hostname on my shared server with Slicehost so I can setup Postfix as a null client. I edited /etc/hosts and after reboot, the hostname is still incorrect. • "A device attached to the system is not functioning" when reconnecting to XenApp 6 session

  A few of our XenApp 6 customers are seeing issue sometimes when users move from one workstation to another and try to connect to their running session. An error box pops up with "A device attached to the system is not functioning" This is on healthy 2008 R2 servers with all Citrix hotfixes applied. After the error, the user's session must be logged out before they can get back in. This was posted here: http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=273457 , but is not answered. There is nothing telling in the event logs, and it is an inconsistent problem. Has anyone else seen this issue of found a fix?

• Java sound doesn't work under Linux

  Help! I'm getting frustrated by the individual hoops I have to go through to eek sound out of my speakers when running Java apps on Linux platforms! I just installed Fedora 12 and after downloading and running the Java Sound Demo I get exceptions. If I run just a vanilla Java program that plays a wav file it runs silently with no sound and no exceptions. Every other app seems to play sound. I also took some advice from this thread in the Ubuntu forums which almost seemed to work. (Installing aoss got rid of the initial exceptions in the sound demo but I still hear nothing when I play.) can somebody help me figure out what's wrong?

• linux log memory hogging issue

  Hi, We have a VPS server (it's using Virtuozzo). On a few occasions now, our VPS memory was fully used up and no new connections could be made to the server on SSH, SMTP, or POP. The only thing that works is connecting to the web service. Luckily, plesk is running on the VPS and we have been able to reboot it through plesk (as well as see that the RAM is 100% used). I would like to find what process is causing this. I have a feeling it's MySQL, but don't really know. Is there some sort of logging I could implement that would help me find out what was the cause of this next time it happens? Thanks.

• Why does outlook 2013, after initial setup, always fail to connect to an Exchange server/always ask for a password?

  After installing Outlook 2013 configuring it to connect to an exchange server (details about which, e.g., version, etc., I do not know how to provide) was stressful and the user used outlook without issue for a session. The next time outlook is started this error (Re. subject) occurs. The answer to this question solves the issue, or explains why it is happening (i.e., no one could provide a solution). • Firefox in popup window (no address search bar) ctrl-k navigates to google

  In firefox hitting Ctrl+K takes you to the search bar (all fine and good). However in my webmail client (Zimbra) it pops open windows without the address/search bar. Hitting Ctrl+K there (muscle memory from Outlook Web Access) navigates immediately to google.com - hitting back doesn't work from there (Zimbra's all screwed). Is there anyway to disable Ctrl+K navigating to the search provider without changing the normal Ctrl+K to the search-bar behaviour when the search-bar is present? Or better yet force it to actually pop up the search-bar - or highlight in my main browser window's search bar?

• Windows 7: Open File - Security Warning box appears for every app on the desktop

  Whenever I double-click to open an executable on the desktop (.exe, .bat, etc.), or a shortcut on the desktop that points to an executable, the "Security Warning" pops up and asks me "Are you really sure you want to open that? Stuff from the Internet is dangerous!" I don't usually mind this warning and don't want to disable it globally, but now I'm getting it for any executable on the desktop, even ones that I didn't download from the Web and don't have the Mark of the Web alternate data stream. (That is, streams -d * shouldn't and doesn't help.) This started fairly recently, but I can't really point to anything I did that triggered it. It only occurs in one user account on the machine; the other account doesn't have this problem. Running System Restore didn't help. How can I fix the problem and make the pop-up warning appear only when it's supposed to?

• OpenVPN - Ubunut 10.04 - Client Can't Connect to Server - Linux Route Add Command Failed

  I suppose this could be asked on Server Fault as well, but it is specific to the client so I thought I'd start here. I have keys for a OpenVPN server already in place. I have used these keys to connect already, but using a Windows XP machine. • Can i have a Asterisk IP PBX Server Behind ISA 2000

  Hello Is it a simple procedure to configure ISA Server 2000 to allow an Asterisk IPPBX connect to SIP provider. On asterisk forums they say the ISA has difficulties handling SIP, softphones that i have installed behind the firewall work fine with the provider when the firewall client is installed on the workstation. With asterisk being a linux based system this will not be an option. Is the config a matter setting up port forwarding, is this a more complicated task on ISA server than just selecting the ports i need and then the ip of the internal machine i want to forward them to? • Remote monitoring with screen capture

  Is there anyway i can perodically take screenshots of a remote computer using nagios? I am experimenting with Nagios, and i am trying to explore different monitoring. So my question is apart from using nagios to monitor cpu usage, bandwidth utilization, uptime etc.. can i monitor my worker's productivity by checking what is he doing on his computer in a form of image output. Being able to monitor processes would not be of much help to me, as i only know if he or she is running firefox.exe for example he maybe using excessive use of firefox for facebook or other stuff but he claims he is troubleshooting and looking for solutions on forums. I saw a check_vnc script but i am unable to install the requsite vnc server anyone succesfully tried the vnc script care to share how to go about it? If not anyother way to try this?
