How should I lay-out my PHP login class?

So, there is going to be one login form; however 1 of 3 types of members will be signing in member_type_a, member_type_b, member_type_c all of whom have some of the same properties, and some whom may have specific methods and/or properties to them. I want the class to be saved to a session variable for use with member area pages. Any suggestions on applicable design patterns?

Class design issue

I'm new to OOP and a lot of times I become stumped in situations similar to this example: Task: Generate an XML document that contains information about a person. Assume the information is readily available in a database. Here is an example of the structure: <Person> <Name>John Doe</Name> <Age>21</Age> <Address> <Street>100 Main St.</Street> <City>Sylvania</City> <State>OH</State> </Address> <Relatives> <Parents> <Mother> <Name>Jane Doe</Name> </Mother> <Father> <Name>John Doe Sr.</Name> </Father> </Parents> <Siblings> <Brother> <Name>Jeff Doe</Name> </Brother> <Brother> <Name>Steven Doe</Name> </Brother> </Siblings> </Relatives> </Person> Ok lets create a class for each tag (ie: Person, Name, Age, Address) Lets assume each class is only responsible for itself and the elements directly contained Each class will know (have defined by default) the classes that are directly contained within them Each class will have a process() function that will add itself and its childeren to the XML document we are creating When a child is drawn, as in the previous line, we will have them call process() as well Now we are in a recursive loop where each object draws their childeren until all are drawn But what if only some of the tags need to be drawn, and the rest are optional? Some are optional based on if the data exists (if we have it, we must draw it), and some are optional based on the preferences of the user generating the document How do we make sure each object has the data it needs to draw itself and it's childeren? We can pass down a massive array through every object, but that seems shitty doesnt it? We could have each object query the database for it, but thats a lot of queries, and how does it know what it's query is? What if we want to get rid of a tag later? There is no way to reference them. I've been thinking about this for 20 hours now. I feel like I am misunderstanding a design principle or am just approaching this all wrong. How would you go about programming something like this? I suppose this problem could apply to any senario where there are classes that create other classes, but the classes created need information to run. How do I get the information to them in a way that doesn't seem fucky? Thanks for all of your time, this has been kicking my ass.

Good afternoon, seems like I am somewhat stuck in CC-land these days, but I have one (hopefully) final question regarding proper CC-handling: When using the CC View Creation Wizard with the two steps / details below, I can create a proper Snapshot view on my machine perfectly fine, however when trying to do the same with the mkview command, it fails... Dojo DataGrid, programmatic creation

I'm trying to create a DataGrid dynamically. Instead, I want to create the grid dynamically. However, it does appear that at the point of creation the values of theStore and layout are correct. Suggestions please, or indeed a working example of a programmic grid might solve the problem.

Creation of Objects: Constructors or Static Factory Methods

I am going through Effective Java and some of my things which I consider as standard are not suggested by the book, for instance creation of object, I was under the impression that constructors are the best way of doing it and books says we should make use of static factory methods, I am not able to few some advantages and so disadvantages and so am asking this question, here are the benefits of using it. Advantages: One advantage of static factory methods is that, unlike constructors, they have names. A second advantage of static factory methods is that, unlike constructors, they are not required to create a new object each time they’re invoked. A third advantage of static factory methods is that, unlike constructors, they can return an object of any subtype of their return type. A fourth advantage of static factory methods is that they reduce the verbosity of creating parameterized type instances. I am not able to understand this advantage and would appreciate if someone can explain this point Disadvantages: The main disadvantage of providing only static factory methods is that classes without public or protected constructors cannot be subclassed. A second disadvantage of static factory methods is that they are not readily distinguishable from other static methods.I am not getting this point and so would really appreciate some explanation. Image creation performance / image caching

Hello, I'm writing an application that has a scrollable image (used to display a map). The map background consists of several tiles (premade from a big JPG file), that I draw on a Graphics object. I also use a cache (Hashtable), to prevent from having to create every image when I need it. I don't keep everything in memory, because that would be too much. The problem is that when I'm scrolling through the map, and I need an image that wasn't cached, it takes about 60-80 ms to create it. Depending on screen resolution, tile size and scroll direction, this can occur multiple times in one scroll operation (for different tiles). In my case, it often happens that this needs to be done 4 times, which introduces a delay of more than 300 ms, which is extremely noticeable. The easiest thing for me would be that there's some way to speed up the creation of Images, but I guess that's just wishful thinking... Besides that, I suppose the most obvious thing to do is to load the tiles predictively (e.g. when scrolling to the right, precache the tiles to the right), but then I'm faced with the rather difficult task of thinking up a halfway decent algorithm for this. My actual question then is: how can I best do this predictive loading? Maybe I could offload the creation of images to a separate thread? Other things to consider? Thanks in advance.

ASP.NET- forcing child/container events to fire before parent onload?

I'm working on a questionnaire type application in which questions are stored in a database. Therefore, I create my controls dynamically on every Page.OnLoad. This works like a charm and ViewState is persisted between postbacks because I ensure that my dynamic controls always have the same generated Control.ID. In addition to the user control that dynamically populates the questions, my questionnaire page also contains a 'Status' section (also encapsulated by a user control) which represents the status of the questionnaire (choices are 'Complete', 'Started' or 'In Progress'). If the user changes the status of questionnaire (i.e. from 'In Progress' to 'Complete'), I need to postback to the server because the contents of the dynamic portion of the questionnaire depend on the selected status. Some questions are always present regardless of status, and yet others may not be present at all for the selected status. The point is, when the status changes, I have to postback to the page and render the right set of questions. Additionally, I need to preserve any user entered values for those questions which are 'always available'. However, due to the page life cycle in ASP.NET, the 'Status' user control's OnLoad, which contains the correct status needed to load the right questions from the DB, doesn't get executed until after the 'dynamic questions' user control has already been populated (with the wrong/stale values). To get around this, I raise an event from my 'Status' user control to the main page to indicate that the Status has changed. The main page then raises an event on the 'dynamic questions' user control. Since by the time this event bubbles up, the 'dynamic questions' user control has already loaded the 'wrong' questions from the DB, it first calls Controls.Clear. It then happily uses the new status to query the database for the 'correct' questions and does a Control.Add() on each. FYI, Control.IDs are consistent across postbacks. This solution works...sorta. The correct set of questions for the selected status do get rendered; however ViewState is getting lost for those 'always available' questions. I'm guessing this is because the 'dynamic questions' user control calls Controls.Clear when responding to the status changed event. This must somehow kill the association between ViewState and my dynamic controls, even though the Control.ID are consistent. This seems like such a common requirement, I'm virtually certain there is a better, cleaner and less error prone approach to accomplish this. how to enable iis 7 dynamic content compression?

I've turned on dynamic content compression in IIS 7, but Fiddler is showing that my dynamic pages are still being served without content-encoding: gzip. Static content compression is working fine on the same servers. Not sure if it matters but most of the dynamic pages are coldfusion pages and we're also using the IIS URL rewriting module. CloudFront for dynamic content CDN

I would like to use CF as a CDN for my entire site, including static and dynamic content. I have been using CF for static content for a while and I am very happy with the results. I am now doing POC of putting the web server completely behind CF. For the dynamic content I created a new distribution and set the origin to be my web server. Right now I'm looking to test the solution, so I have the web server on the original domain and the CF distribution on the amazon domain. This works with the exception of HTTPS urls and POST requests. For HTTPS requests, I see the requests are forwarded to the original site domain for now, but how will CF handle them when I move the distribution to the www cname? What configuration changes should I make so that CF forwards HTTPS requests to the origin? For POST requests, I want the post to be made to the origin server. Can I set this up in CF? Finally, the site has membership. Can I configure CF to pull all content from the origin if the user is logged in? Sorry for the long question. I'm a little lost and documentation for dynamic CF is still kind of scarce. Thank you!

Router that allows custom Dynamic DNS server [closed]

I've made my own DDNS service and it works fine using an application running on clients to update the IP. But if for some reason I don't have the choice of using my software and instead I need to use a router to update the IP, it becomes troublesome. For example, I needed to setup IPsec from a customer to me and the customers router/firewall (netgear srx5308) has a dynamic IP which is given from the ISP which can't offer static IPs. So it needs to use dynamic dns for it to work. In this case there really isn't a client to run the software on since it's a router/firewall. Unfortunately it seems that most routers are rather unfriendly towards custom DDNS solutions and most offer only dyndns.com or similar templates. Which was the case with this router too. Leaving me with no way to use my own dynamic dns server IP. I have the option of switching out the customers router and I've been looking around for alternatives and other routers/solutions and I was wondering if anyone on this great site might have been in a similar situation or might just know about some router/firewall that is more friendly towards custom ddns solutions that I might be able to use. Debugging HTML & JavaScript with Firebug

I made a JSONP widget. However, when one of the partner sites put it in their page, (1) it doesn't render at all in IE and (2) in other browsers (Firefox & Google Chrome), the HTML of the widget renders incorrectly: the <aside> closes prematurely, before the Financial Aid Glossary. It's something specific to that page because it works fine on this example college resource center page. To fix these two issues, I tried saving the page source to a local file and messing around with the local file and with Firebug, deleting DOM elements and stuff. I even tried fixing the errors that The W3C Markup Validation Service found. But, I still couldn't get it to render correctly. How should I tell them to change their page so that the widget renders correctly? Or, how should I update the widget script I wrote? You, the chef, are in a soup. There are N knights, including King Arthur, each with a different preference for dessert, but you cannot afford to make desserts for all of them. You are given the cost of manufacturing each Knight's preferred dessert-since it is a round table, the list starts with the cost of King Arthur's dessert, and goes counter-clockwise. You decide to pick the cheapest desserts to make, such that for every pair of adjacent Knights, at least one gets his dessert. This will ensure that the Knights do not protest. What is the minimum cost of tonight's dinner, given this condition? The problem arises because of the table's round shape. Now an anomaly arises when I consider the case - 2 1 1 2 1 2. The program gives an answer 5 when the answer should be 4, by picking the 1st, 3rd & 5th knight. At this point, I started to doubt my initial algorithm (approach) itself! Where did I go wrong?

Why does creating dynamic bodies in JBox2D freeze my app?

My game hangs/freezes when I create dynamic bullet objects with Box2D and I don't know why. I am making a game where the main character can shoot bullets by the user tapping on the screen. Each touch event spawns a new FireProjectileEvent that is handled properly by an event queue. So I know my problem is not trying to create a new body while the box2d world is locked. Other notes: I am using JBox2D 2.1.2.2. (Upgraded from 2.1.2.1 to try to fix this problem) When the application freezes, if I hit the back button, it appears to move my game backwards by one update tick. Very strange.

What might cause this ExecutionEngineException?

I am trying to use Reflection.Emit to generate a wrapper class in a dynamic assembly. Automatic wrapper generation is part of a new open-source library I'm writing called "GoInterfaces". The wrapper class implements IEnumerable<string> and wraps List<string>. Static IP for dynamic IP

I have a dynamic IP address. I would like to have a static IP, but Virgin Media don't allow static IPs for residential broadband services, even if you ask them really nicely and offer to pay for it without switching to a business tariff. I am already registered with a dynamic DNS service which is updated by my router eg me.example.com will always resolve to my dynamic IP. This is fine for some circumstances, but not if you can only enter an IP address into configuration files/hardware etc like firewalls, subversion services etc etc. Is there a way I can have a static IP address 'forwarding' to my dynamic IP? Would a possible solution involve tunnelling? Setting up a private proxy? Please note the following: I am able to buy an IP address from my web host. I have access to a webserver and I am able to create custom DNS zones. I'm happy to have a webserver running at home if necessary also. I do not wish to change broadband providers. I have zero control over the services that require the IP address entering so I cannot tackle the problem that way round (services I need to access are at work). PS I've tried googling this issue, but it is very difficult to search for as most results are related to dynamic dns (which I already have set up and isnt quite what I'm after)

Using a dynamic <script> (a <script> appended to the DOM by JavaScript) to load and initialize Click

I'm creating an HTML/JavaScript widget to be used on third-party sites. This widget is generated by a <script> that our customers will insert on their page. The <script> creates an <iframe> in the customer's domain, and then creates and inserts all of that <iframe>'s content using JavaScript. It's important that this <iframe> contain Clicky's tracking code to monitor clicks on outbound links. Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck getting Clicky to work when I append the requisite <script> elements to the <iframe> using JavaScript. I first tried simply appending the Clicky tracking code to the <iframe> after appending some test outbound links, hoping that Clicky could attach to those automatically as it does on a static page. That didn't seem to work, so my next inclination was to use the "advanced_disable" custom option and use clicky.log() on the links I want to track. Here's a link to a test page that's along those lines: http://onespot.wsj.com/static/clicky_iframe_test.html When clicking a link on that test page, the action is not logged in Clicky, and a JavaScript error appears: clicky is not defined This ("clicky") appears to be defined in http://static.getclicky.com/js, which I confirmed through the Firebug console is indeed loading before I click a test outbound link. Has anyone successfully loaded Clicky in this way? If so, could you provide some sample code, a link to a working implementation, or some feedback on what's wrong with my code? Ivy resolve not working with dynamic artifact

I've been using Ivy a bit but I seem to still have a lot to learn. I have two projects. One is a web app and the other is a library upon which the web app depends. The set up is that the library project is compiled to a jar file and published using Ivy to a directory within the project. In the web app build file, I have an ant target that calls the Ivy resolve ant task. What I'd like to do is have the web app using the dynamic resolve mode during development (on developer's local machines) and default resolve mode for test and production builds. Previously I was appending a time stamp to the library archive file so that Ivy would notice changes in file when the web app tried to resolve its dependency on it. Within Eclipse this is cumbersome because, in the web app, the project had to be refreshed and the build path tweaked every time a new library jar was published. Publishing a similarly named jar file every time would, I figure, only require developers to refresh the project. The problem is that the web app is unable to retrieve the dynamic jar file. C# Object Creation from Datatable

Hi Folks, Im just getting my head round C#. I've been creating classes and objects so say i created a class called Member: public class Member { public int MemberID; public string FirstName; public string LastName; public string UserName; } and i create a new object of that class by doing this: Member Billy = new Member(); Billy.UserName = "Jonesy"; Billy.FirstName = "Billy"; Billy.LastName = "Jones"; Thats all fine but what if I've queried a database and gotten back 5 members, can I create objects on the fly? Or what is the best way to store these members in memory? I've used VB.Net where I would just add them into a datatable. But I've never really done any object-oriented programming before and thought since I'm learning C sharp nows the best time to learn OOP.. Any help most appreciated! Jonesy
