  • C code Error: free(): invalid next size (fast):

    I got an error from my code, but I'm not sure where to fix it. Here's the explanation of what my code does: I'm writing some code that will read an input file and store each line as an object (char type) in an array. The first line of the input file is a number. This number tells me how many lines that I should read and store in the array. Here's my code: int main(int argc, char *argv[]){ FILE *fp; char **path; int num, i; ... /*after reading the first line and store the number value in num*/ path = malloc(num *sizeof(char)); i=0; while (!feof(fp)) { char buffer[500]; int length = 0; for (ch = fgetc(fp); ch != EOF && ch != '\n'; ch = fgetc(fp)) { buffer[length++] = ch; } if(ch == '\n' && ch!= EOF){ buffer[length] = '\0'; path[i] = malloc(strlen(buffer)+1); strcpy(path[i], buffer); i++; } } ... free(path); } After running the code, I get this *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid next size (fast): I have searched around and know this is malloc/free error, but I don't exactly know to fix it.   • Encrypted WiFi with no password?

    Is there any standard that allows a WiFi connection to be encrypted, but not require a password? i know that (old, weak) WEP, and newer WPA/WPA2 require a password (i.e. shared secret). Meanwhile my own wireless connections are "open", and therefore unencrypted. There is no technical reason why i can't have an encrypted link that doesn't require the user to enter any password. Such technology exists today (see public key encryption and HTTPS). But does such a standard exist for WiFi? Note: i only want to protect communications, not limit internet access. i get the sense that no such standard exists (since i'm pretty capable with Google), but i'd like it confirmed. Claraification: i want to protect communcations, not limit internet access. That means users are not required to have a password (or its moral equivalent). This means users are not required: to know a password to know a passphrase to enter a CAPTCHA to draw a secret to have a key fob to know a PIN to use a pre-shared key have a pre-shared file to possess a certificate In other words: it has the same accessibility as before, but is now encrypted.

  • Is there a plugin for photoshop that lets me write right to left text?

    I know there is a ME version of Photoshop, but I've seen a lot of plugins that do Arabic text on regular Photoshop (which include right to left text). What I'm looking for is just the right to left thing, without all the Arabic support. Is there any out there? Basically, typing typing "HELLO" should yield "OLLEH" exactly. Individual characters should not be reversed.

    Let's say a large enterprise opens a new office in (insert random location here) and want the new colleges up to speed as fast as possible. Let's also say this enterprise is a very typical one with a complex environment, lots of history and almost full lack of documentation. What's already been decided is that the new colleges will receive howto-style documentation for the most typical tasks and will get seme architecture documentation for some of the more complicated systems. Any ideas about improving this process? And more specifically, how should such a howto document look like to be helpful?

That, my friends, would be a meth lab and fortunately that is waaaaay outside my area of expertise. Now I can talk Kentucky bourbon, or as Homer Simpson would say “mmmmmmmmmmm bourbon”, with you but please refrain from asking me meth questions. :-) Anyway, what I’m talking about are the MEF (Managed Extensibility Framework) Learning Labs contained in the Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 Training Kit. Not sure what MEF is and need an overview? Then start here or here. Ok, so you’ve read a bit about MEF or heard about MEF and you’re thinking it might be something you and your development team might want to take a hands-on look at. I have good news then because contained in the Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 Training Kit is a series of hands-on learning labs for MEF.     I would like to grant users of the wheel group (other sysadmins) su access without being asked for password. I know how to do it with pam in linux, but the question now is for FreeBSD. I am not familiar with the syntax for FreeBSD's PAM subsystem. What shall I enter in /etc/pam.d/su instead of the default: auth sufficient pam_rootok.so no_warn auth sufficient pam_self.so no_warn auth requisite pam_group.so no_warn group=wheel root_only fail_safe ruser auth include system # account account include system # session session required pam_permit.so

  • Can it be harmful to grant jackd realtime priority?

    I am apt-get installing Ardour, a sound mixing program, just to try it out. Installing Ardour also installs JACK, a dependency. As part of the JACK installation script, I get the following dialog: If you want to run jackd with realtime priorities, the user starting jackd needs realtime permissions. Accept this option to create the file /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf, granting realtime priority and memlock privileges to the audio group. Running jackd with realtime priority minimizes latency, but may lead to complete system lock-ups by requesting all the available physical system memory, which is unacceptable in multi-user environments. Enable realtime process priority? I'm installing on my laptop, which never has multiple simultaneous users. I still have concerns: is JACK something that'll be used by the system itself to play any sound (i.e. will it replace ALSA)? If so, does that mean that if I enable realtime priority for JACK, I'll run a slight risk of freezing the machine whenever any sound is played? Or is JACK only going to be used by Ardour for now (until I install some other JACK-dependent program)? Thanks, -- Matt

  • How to grant standard users access to disk partitions and flash storage?

    I have a partition that I need standard users (not administrators)to have read/write access to. However, this partition does not even appear to them as it does to me as an administrator. How can I make it so that standard users can read/write to this partition? It would be nice if they could have the ability to mount it if needed. I have the same problem with removable media - if I have a flash card in the computer, the standard users cannot see this storage media.

  • Free SWF Obfuscator

    Does anybody know of a free flash obfuscator? All I can find are commercial ones with free trials. I have done numerous google searches, and have been unable to find what I am looking for. I know that obfuscators do not make your swf hack proof, but they make things harder. Things I am looking for in an obfuscator: Unlimited obfuscations No time limit No watermark (or on the left side only! Right side is no good, same with center) Able to publish work (no special player needed other than standard flashplayer) I really was surprised to see how hard it was to find a good obfuscator (tried encoder, protection, etc. instead as well) and how easy it is to find a decompiler.... It is imperative that my code be protected, at least partially, to discourage the hacking of my game.
