• Does setting document.domain via script interfere with Google Analytics?

  I have a site, www.example.com, that displays some secure content from forms.example.com in iframes. To enable cross-frame navigation, pages on both sites use JavaScript to set the document.domain to just "example.com". I am using Google Analytics on www.example.com, but the GA site is not showing any data. It indicates that the tracking code is found (the status icon is a green checkmark), but no data is reported. The GA profile lists the website as "www.example.com". Is this a supported scenario? Is my script interfering with the GA code in some way?

We write one failing unit test and make it pass as simply as possible. What are the benefits to this approach over writing many failing unit tests for a class and make them all pass in one go. The test suite still protects you against writing incorrect code or making mistakes in the refactoring stage, and code coverage should be just as high, so what's the harm? Sometimes it's easier to write all the tests first as a form of 'brain dump' to quickly write down all the expected behavior in one go.

  I am having a problem with assigning a colour to the different meshes that I have on one object. The technique that I have used is the first approach on this site. Is it possible to export a simulation (animation) from Blender to Unity? So what I would like to do is the following. I have about 107 meshes that are different frames from my shape key animation of my blender model. What I would like to have is that the first mesh will be bright green and up to the 40th mesh the colour turns to be white /greyish... the best would be if I could assign every mesh by hand a colour, however they are all default materials. And if I assign the object a colour, the whole "animation" is going to be in that colour

• Wifi stops working in 13.10

  OK, my wifi is connecting fine, but it just stop downloading and uploading data. The skype stops, trying to reconnect, the firefox nighly and the google chromium stops loading pages and websites, everythings stops. But when I see the network icon: connected to my wifi. Then, I simply reconnect, or disconnect and connect again. Reconnecting, the wifi starts working again, the skype icon turns green, the browsers work again. Previously, I had 13.04 and never had this problem. When I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10, the wifi started to do this. And the wifi has this problem since the early times of 13.10; since I installed 13.10, the wifi is having this issue (from the first day I installed it). Anyone having the same problem? Anyone knows how to fix it?

• Is there a quick way to convert camera raw files to DNG?

  Before I switched from Windows to Ubuntu for my daily computing, I used Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom for processing photos from my DSLR. Adobe made it really straightforward to convert from proprietary camera raw files (in my case, .NEF) to DNG. I haven't found any way to convert NEF to DNG in Ubuntu yet. Most photography programs do process NEFs to JPG/TIFF/PNG/etc., but I'm looking for a converter for archival purposes. Are there any tools available, either standalone or built into another app, that can losslessly convert from NEF to DNG?

• Why is Firefox changing the color calibration of this image?

  The symptom of my problem is that the same hex color in a PNG image does not match the CSS-defined color defined by the same hex code. This problem only happens in Firefox when gfx.color_management.mode is set to 2 (tagged images only) rather than 0 (off). (Firefox ICC color correction described here). The image is http://dzfk93w6juz0e.cloudfront.net/images/background-top-light.png which at the bottom has the color #c8e8bd. However, the shade of green is different to that color when Firefox color calibration is enabled. Is this image inadvertently "tagged" for color correction?

• Can I set Ubuntu 12.10 to automatically reboot to Windows once only?

  Is there some way when I'm in Ubuntu 12.10 that I can set it to reboot automatically to Windows just once, so that when I'm in Windows I can reboot and it will automatically boot back into Ubuntu? I need this because often when I travel I access my home computer for email and other personal info that I don't want to travel with or leave to the tender mercies of the "cloud". On rare occasions, I need to temporarily boot into Windows 7 to do something Windows-specific, but then I want to be able to boot back into Ubuntu because that's where most of my computing takes place. • Upgrading a live 8.04 LTS server to More uptodate version

  Running Apache, MySQL, PHP with Moodle 1.9.9 running as a school based CMS. All possible updates for 8.04 have been applied. Moodle 2.x from Versions 2.1 onwards needs Php version 5.3.2 which is included in more recent distribution version. Would I be better (safer) upgrading php & mysql or upgrading Ubuntu to a more recent version? - if upgrading Ubuntu is better, are there any caveats i should know before attempting this. I will be taking a Copy of the entire server before doing any upgrading. Hoping to run on a test version also. Bit green on Linux hence lack of confidence.

• Effecient finding of long-range spotting targets

  I'm creating a top-down 2d strategy game, with a square grid map. So far, I've used Bresenham's line drawing algorithm in a circle to determine what's in LOS of each unit, and then targedt one of the targets in the circle. Now I find that this limits my units to shoot only at targets that they see. I want to extend my targeting algorithm to target any other unit in range of my weapon, even if they're out of sight range of this given unit, if they're "spotted" by another friendly unit. In other words, I want to enable usage of weapons with ranges longer than sight range. Is there a better way than iterating over all sighted units and computing range and LOSto each of them?

  Currently I have a command-line application in C called btcwatch. It has a -C option that it can receive as an argument that compares the current price of Bitcoin with a price that was stored beforehand with -S. Example output with this option is: $ btcwatch -vC # -v = verbose buy: UP $ 32.000000 USD (100.000000 -> 132.000000) sell: UP $ 16.000000 USD (100.000000 -> 116.000000) The dilemma is whether to use colour for the UP or DOWN string (green and red, respectively). Most command-line applications I know of (apart from git) stay away from colour in their output. In my desire for btcwatch to look and be quite "standard" (use of getopt, Makefiles, etc), I'm not sure if colour would look out of place in this situation.

• What is the current frequency of my processor (CPU-Z equivalent)?

  Is there a ubuntu program like CPU-Z which will show me the actual frequency of my processor? I do a fair amount of scientific computing which leads to me running my programs for up to 10 hrs. To alleviate this problem a little I overclock my CPU. However I can't see what the actual clock of my processor from within ubuntu which means I either have to restart and look at the bios or load into windows. • Learning to program on punchcards

  I'd like to try programming with punch cards once in my life. How can I do this? I'm in my 30s, and grew up entirely in the PC era, programming on computers with screens and keyboards. I want to experience the way my father and grandfather used to work. I imagine the hardware (and probably the cards themselves) are no longer manufactured. Are there any universities or museums with functioning punch card readers anymore? I'm in Boston, but I'm willing to travel to do this.   I'm hoping to write a spellchecker for search queries in a web application - not unlike Google's "Did you mean?" The algorithm will be loosely based on this: http://catalog.ldc.upenn.edu/LDC2006T13 In short, it generates correction candidates and scores them on how often they appear (along with adjacent words in the search query) in an enormous dataset of known n-grams - Google Web 1T - which contains well over 1 billion 5-grams. I'm not using the Web 1T dataset, but building my n-gram sets from my own documents - about 200k docs, and I'm estimating tens or hundreds of millions of n-grams will be generated. This kind of process is pushing the limits of my understanding of basic computing performance - can I simply load my n-grams into memory in a hashtable or dictionary when the app starts? Is the only limiting factor the amount of memory on the machine? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Perhaps putting all my n-grams in a graph database with some sort of tree query optimisation? Could that ever be fast enough?

• How to use only intel graphics and power off radeon?

  I've been using Linux for quite a while in everyday computing and programming. But now i got this new laptop with amazing battery life on windows which runs pretty cool even while gaming. But for some reason on Ubuntu I get like 1/3 battery life and it gets hot even while browsing the web. I have the proprietary drivers for radeon, but I'm thinking about upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04, and I would like to know how can I use only the Intel graphics and have radeon always turned off? Since I do not need the discrete graphics on Ubuntu and I'm pretty sure my problem is related to the radeon sucking up my battery and generating heat. My laptop technical specifications are: Dell latitude 3540 Intel core i7 4500U (with Intel hd4400 graphics ) Ati Radeon HD 8850m with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM 8 GB DDR3L @1600mhz Toshiba 256gb SSD Ubuntu 12.4.3 If you need any additional info, please tell me :)

  I just recently (+- 30 minutes ago) install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop on my pc (dual boot) via Live USB (i check the "automatically install upgrade" option when installing it). unfortunately, at the login screen after the installation finished (after reboot), i cannot use my mouse! also, an error message occur saying that network connection is not available. but, when i restart again and using the "try Ubuntu without installing" in the Live USB, the problems didn't occur. i tried to googling this but failed to find any solution. and yes, i am totally green on Ubuntu and Linux. so, please, help me on this. thanks in advance.
