• How to get mixer applet for "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo"

  In pavucontrol, I can choose between RV620 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 3400 Series] and Built-in Audio. When the former is enabled, videos on (among others) Youtube play way too fast, but this answer solved my problem (though I don't know why). However, when I use Built-in Audio instead of RV620 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 3400 Series], the mixer in my applet appears to be disabled; the icon is replaced by a blank and changing the volume has no effect, as the applet apparently only relays to RV620 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 3400 Series]. How do I get an applet to control the volume for Built-in Audio instead?

  I am involuntary Admin for a MOSS 2007 site. We use profile import from AD, from two domains: Mycompany.com and AM.MyCompany.Com I was looking at the log for the PEOPLE_DL_IMPORT Content source and it has many entries like: spsimport://?$$dl$$/MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com/am.MyCompany.com It certainly doesn't look right. Is this normal? What can I do to remedy it ? Can I start over? There are users already in SP and some of them are in SP groups for permission purposes.

• HP Pavillion laptop screen problems

  Approximately after 4 days when I installed my Ubuntu 10.10 an interesting problem with my laptop screen starts. I had similar problem what you can see in this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCYVfGVGWyY&feature=related - but it doesn't happen all the time. The most interesting thing is that, than I had that problem only when I turn my laptop screen in different angle. And this "bad" angle changes by the time, so after about 15 minutes after booting computer I can turn laptop screen in normal position. This is software or hardware problem? I'm using HP Pavillion dv9000.

I get just 2 or 3 fps. There's another (faster) way to create the Body from a list of triangles or the contour vertices?

  I'm prototyping a simple browser-based game. It's played from a top down perspective on a 2d canvas. You left-click on a point on the map, and your character will begin walking to it. If you click on a different point on the map, then your character will begin walking to the new point. For each game frame, alternate incrementing current coordinates in the north and then east directions.

• Ideal laptop specs for a Computer Science Masters student? [closed]

  I have a HP pavillion core 2 duo 2 GHz and 4 GB RAM, and it is painful to use this machine for any kind of coding. Eclipse (especially Juno) literally takes 5 minutes to load. And even after that, everything is lagy. Apart from school stuff, I also use my computer as a television. I watch Hulu, Netflix, YouTube etc in 720p, and this laptop gets hot as hell and the fans are loud enough to wake somebody up from deep sleep. I DON'T use my laptop for Gaming or Video/Photo Editing. I'm looking to buy a new laptop (in which most widely used IDEs would work smoothly and playing hi-def videos wouldn't be too much for the machine to handle) any suggestions (on hardware specs) would be greatly appreciated. • BSOD after PC has been running for a while

  I'm having a problem where my computer is getting a blue screen. I have noticed that the BSOD happens after the PC has been running for about 2 days. The BSOD's seem to be an error with atikmpag.sys with an error code of 0x00000116. The problem started about a month ago.It has happened all five times that I left my computer on that long in the past month. Because my computer is a pre-built one from Dell, and I had upgraded the graphics card (at least a year ago) to a more demanding one, I replaced the stock 360W power supply that came with it. I replaced it with a more powerful, 680W one, because it seemed like the problem could be related to a lack of power supply wattage, but it didn't affect the problem at all. • Bandwidth heavy site... use co-location?

  I'm working on a web site that is likely to be very bandwidth-heavy. A major feature of the site when in active use can pull up to 1Mbps for a single session. Luckily, once users get over the new toy factor, the use of this feature will probably be 1-5% or less (probably much less) of session time. However, new users are likely to play with this feature a good bit, especially at launch. I'm very concerned about bandwidth use. This is more or less a niche market, so I won't ever be needing to scale to crazy levels like YouTube. However, it is entirely possible for it to be a couple terabytes/month. Is co-location my best option? What cheap bandwidth services (colocation/hosted/cloud/whatever) are out there?

• Choppy, stuttery & sped-up sound after update

  My audio has always worked perfectly on this hardware and 12.04. Yesterday I received an update, including a kernel update. Today the sound is periodically stuffed. In youtube, mkv files via VLC and embedded audio in web pages (memrise.com) the sound can become stuttery, sped up or stopped mid play-back. Where can I go to find if this is a known problem, or report it if it is not? Also, can I find a log that will tell me what packages were updated on my machine yesterday?

• ubuntu server in a vm, can't connect to internet

  I'm attemtping to host my own development web server in a virtual box guest, Ubuntu Server. I would like this virtual machine to be accessible from not only my home network, but outside the LAN as well. As such, I've set up a static IP (so I can later forward ports to this static IP.) My virtual box settings have this vm only using one adapter -- in bridged mode. • Legality of using/embedding MP3s?

  I am working on a language learning startup. I think that one of the best ways to study is through music. For that purpose I would like to include MP3s on the website, together with related study tools such as appropriate lyrics. Because I want to avoid dead links I would like to host the MP3s directly on my server and stream them to the users. Doing this isn't exactly legal since everyone could download the MP3s. But what if, before accessing a specific song, I displayed a message asking "Do you legally own this song in CD/MP3/... format?" and only if the user clicks "yes" he is allowed to continue and listen. Isn't this how, for example, YouTube gets around legal problems? Does anybody have insight on this? Thank you!

• Jazoon, JAX California, and Brazilian week - it's conference season again

This past week Jazoon in Zurich had Java EE, GlassFish, JAX-RS, Servlet, JSF all covered while JAX in California also had a good number of Java EE-related talks (see this Java EE 7 article). • How do I read my PDFs and watch videos properly again?

  Whenever I watch videos, either online of local via Totem and/or open PDF files using evince. The system gets really, really bogged down. All apps get really slow, menus take forever to display, switching windows gives me time to make a coffee, etc. I have a couple of bug reports open on this, but what do I need to do to really troubleshoot the issue? I've purged Adobe Flash from the system, but YouTube HTML5 videos still have the issue. A bunch of PDFs saved locally trigger the problem. And to (temporarily) remove the slowness, I need to shutdown the computer, breath for a few minutes, then restart. A simple reboot does not do the trick. How can I identify the cause? This only started on 13.04. I've had Ubuntu on this machine for a year without a problem until "upgrading" to 13.04. I am not a programmer, but I suspect an issue with the Intel video driver.

  The IPV6 protocol has a feature called "Extended Unique Identifier" or EUI-64 witch in short uses the MAC address of the network card when choosing an IPV6 Adress. If you want to be anonymous on the internet (so that nobody can find you when you download something, etc.) you need this EUI-64 to be bipassed in order for the MAC address not to be discovered by harmful third parties on the internet and for privacy. How do you avoid EUI-64 MAC address usage in IPV6 selection in Ubuntu? Also for DHCP IPV6?

• Implementing RAID 1 in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop [closed]

  I found many resources on implementing RAID 1 using two disk drives. But, I am confused while implementing RAID 1 using 4 RAID disks. Can we use two disks for storage and two for mirroring using RAID 1? I couldn't find the way to create RAID disk using gparted tool in Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop version. Maybe, the desktop version doesn't support RAID. I am trying to implement RAID on the existing Ubuntu installation? I have added 4 X 2TB HDD in the system and I want RAID 1 to be implemented in these 4 drives with 2 drives for storage and 2 devices for mirroring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! • Video playback not working in Ubuntu 11.10

  (Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Classic with Compiz, Nvidia graphics card) This problem occurs with every and all video, whether it's a Youtube video in Firefox, an AVI file in movie player, or any other video. Video simply does not work. When I start any kind of video, the image halts after a second or two. The sound, however, continues. Before it seemed that if I delete all the files in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/, then reboot, the video will play. However this is no longer the case. Manipulating files in that directory does nothing to help the situation. I am now no longer sure this is a gstreamer issue or something else. I am open to any and all possibilities. How can I get video playback to run smoothly on my machine?

  There seems to be a lot of questions / answers about doing the reverse, but not as much info for USB - DVD. Problem I created a bootable USB drive using YUMI. The USB drive is working great, and contains the following: Linux Mint 13 Linux Mint Debian Debian 6 Ubuntu 12.04.1 Fedora 17 A bit of a mix of DVD and Live versions. I have a spindle of DVD+R DL blank DVD's. I would like to create a bootable .iso from this USB drive so I can burn multiple copies of it to pass around to friends! I've created an iso using Folder2ISO, but it coastered my DVD because it wasn't bootable. I don't really want to waste a whole spindle! How would you go about doing such a thing?

• ubuntu 12.04 html5 video jumps out of fullscreen when I change volume [closed]

  Often I can't play html5 videos at all until after a relogin. I have a lenovo t500 with an ati hd3650. My sense is that it's the pop up notice that kills fullscreen. The "popup" notice refers to the notice that always pops up in the upper right hand corner when ubuntu announces something. In this case it pops up when I change the volume and video immediately jumps out of fullscreen. The question is: can I do something about the lack of fullscreen in youtube html5 or is it something I just have to accept?

• Flash audio problem; redirecting to Pulse?

  I am having a problem where the sound on flash objects other than YouTube videos are giving a strange distortion. It has a high pitched pulse sound every second or less that resembles skips on a record. I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix this? I am running Xubuntu 11.10. I think I might have redirected everything to pulse using a config file but I cannot seem to find it anywhere. It used the lines 'type pulse' in it. If anyone knows what I am talking about and how to find that file or whether or not it has any relevance I would greatly appreciate it.

• Internet TV streaming applications

  Are there any programs for Ubuntu that can pull TV streams from the Internet ? For example like on a blu-ray player you get BBC iplayer and hulu and youtube as apps, so is there an application that can do this ? I know XMBC can but its to fiddly and resource hungry, I just want the net TV apps and not the full media center. Boxee was great for this, it was a media center but had an interface for the apps not just sticking them in some strange menu like XBMC. Please let me know of anything you know of

  I have news based website, in which primary contents include news,image albums and videos. out of these i have copy rights for images and videos are just youtube embedded videos. Coming to news my site is kind of a mashup. It gathers data from various sites and presents them in more user friendly way for quick digestion and access. My problem here is that since the news part of the site can be found from other sites, my site could suffer in search rankings. Is there any solution to this. One thing I thought of is to put disallow on all the news ariticles pages, so google does not crawl them. Will this be helpful to me. When applying to google adsense does google crawl these pages (disallow) also.

• Generic Content Player?

  The general idea on the web appears to be that video/audio are to be separated with plain text. By separated, I mean you have a place that plays video/audio and a place that you read text. This is because it is widely understood that they are vastly different. However, audio and video are just another way of communication, just like text. So why do we separate the two even if they are nearly the same thing? Correct me if I'm wrong but, most tutorials are either plain text how-to's (wiki-style) or visual/auditory instructional videos (YouTube). Why aren't the two combined? Or, if it's already been done can someone reply with the link? This might be bordering off-topic and if it is off-topic then please point me to the right place so it won't be. This might also appear to be an obvious question, however I'm not sure if this subject has really been deeply thought-out by more than a few individuals.
