  • Apache2 Segfault - need help interpreting this coredump (suspect cause is memcache / php session related)

    Three Apache2 web servers running a PHP 5.2.3 web site. We're using Memcache to cache rendered pages but also as the storage engine of the PHP Sessions. At peak traffic times we're getting Apache segmentation faults on all three web servers and all HTTPD child processes segfault. My gut tells me that the increased Memcache traffic is stopping PHP sessions from being created or cleaned up and thus the processes die.     Inspired by this question Using third-party libraries - always use a wrapper? I wanted to know what people actually consider as third-party libraries. Example from PHP: If I'm building an application using Zend framework, should I treat Zend framework libraries as third party code? Example from C#: If I'm building a desktop application, should I treat all .Net classes as third party code? Example from Java: Should I treat all libraries in the JDK as third party libraries? Some people say that if a library is stable and won't change often then one doesn't need to wrap it. However I fail to see how one would test a class that depends on a third party code without wrapping it.

I've tried RewriteRule ^zf2(/.*)$ ../zf2/public/index.php [NC,L] in the line after RewriteBase /, but that just gives me a 400 Bad Request.

  • Understanding exceptional cases

    I've been studying the use of exceptions in various php projects (such as Doctrine and Zend Framework). Exceptions seem to be thrown when unordinary input/state occurs. A perfect example is Doctrine throwing an exception when you try to use a invalid query string. I think the creators of the doctrine api understood that first, you can't query data by using an invalid DQL statement, and a developer should immediately be warned that an error has occurred, rather then letting execution continue with the possibility of an error code going un-checked. I also bet that this simplifies reading the code. I can't think of a situation where you would want to use an invalid DQL statement, except unit testing. Since this is true, it's better to avoid plaguing a bunch of code with null/error checks and use exceptions. I've read in books that exceptions shouldn't be thrown when validating dating user input. I've seen examples where of where the guideline is broken. One example is the Zend framework. If supplying an invalid controller or action name, an exception is thrown. Unlike doctrine, the user has more direct control over this sort of input. I know you can configure an error controller and set up a 404 message or what have you, but I'm curious why they have used an exception in this scenario? I guess you can argue the Zend Framework does not know how to continue processing the quest. One last example Is I wrote a function to return some html based on a given resource type. This resource type is hard-coded and sent when a user interacts with a web site (such as clicking a button to display the form to input data). I don't expect users to be mucking around with the request type. Under normal operating conditions, the resource type should be valid. To clean up some logic, I was going to throw an exception if a particular form wasn't found. This is mainly to find the correct form associated with a resource type so proper validation can occur. Does this sound like a valid use case for an exception? Right now it's pretty trivial, but I do plan to implement a restful consumer and re-using a function to map resources to their validation services would be very useful. I can then catch the exception and based on the consumer, return an error message suitable for the request type...

    I've installed (via pecl) xdebug. It is installed (as phpinfo() output indicates), but it doesn't seems to work with CGI (with CLI it works). I've restarted apache, without result. Any ideas?   • How do I use DomainContext.Load in my ViewModel?

    I'm trying to use RIA services to provide data to my Silverlight application by calling DomainContext.Load to retrieve a collection of widgets. I want to expose this collection through a property of the ViewModel so I can bind a control to the collection in my page. I think my approach must be fundamentally wrong because Load is called asynchronously and is therefore not available when my page loads and the control tried to bind. Can someone please show me the right way to do this?     I have an app that is going to navigate to a UISplitView (inside another view altogether) like so: - (void) switchToMyDayView { NSLog(@"Show My Day Screen"); if (self.myDayController.view.superview == nil) { if (self.myDayController == nil) { MyDayController *myController = [[MyDayController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MyDay" bundle:nil]; self.myDayController = myController; [myController release]; } [homeScreenController.view removeFromSuperview]; [self.view insertSubview:self.myDayController.view atIndex:0]; } } Which is done on the main navigation screen Now, the MyDayController has a XIB called MyDay.xib which has these items: File's Owner: MyDayController First Responder: UIResponder Split View Controller ---->Navigation Controller ---->Navigation Bar ----> Table View Controller ----> Navigation Item ---->View Controller So, I need some more components here, I need a UITableViewController and a UISplitViewControllerDelegate correct? I was going to just implement these protocols in my MyDayController, is this sort of standard? So, after the code above, I get an error: -[UIViewController _loadViewFromNibNamed:bundle:] loaded the "MyDay" nib but the view outlet was not set. so, how can I fix it using the UISplitViewController? I know that the UISplitViewController has a view property, but I cannot use it/connect it up in IB can I? Thanks a lot Mark

  • Custom view in iPhone SDK gets placed incorrectly in realation to statusbar

    (ragh, i'm apparently not allowed to post images, so i have included links to the images in this post instead of embedding them) Im writing an iPhone application based on the navigation controller template, but I am not loading the actual navigation controller as the first view in the window. I create a new view controller from a xib, and then add that as a subview, and then only push the navigation view as a modal when i need it. Here's my application: didFinishLaunching ... method in the application deleate RootViewController *rootViewController = (RootViewController *)[navigationController topViewController]; rootViewController.managedObjectContext = self.managedObjectContext; mainViewController = [[MainViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; mainViewController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [window addSubview:[mainViewController view]]; [[mainViewController view] setNeedsLayout]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; It works but the view is not properly aligned with the statusbar: http://img.exdev.dk/1.png When i click "my ambiances" and push the navigation controller view, and then dismiss it again, the layout is fine: same link as above, just replace the 1 with a 2. Sorry for the hassle, apparently I can also only post one link.... Here's the code I use for presenting/dismissing the navigationcontroller: -(void)pushMyAmbiences { [mainViewController presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:TRUE]; } -(void)returnToMainView { [mainViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } Is there anything I'm missing here? Layout-wise? Something that needs to be set in the xib? In a vain attempt I tried calling setNeedsLayout on the view, no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • MVC: capture route url's and pass them to javascript function

    Short:Is there a way to have a route-definition that will pass the "CONTROLLER/ACTION" string value to a javascript function in stead of actually going straight for the controller action? More:I have a masterpage which contains the navigation of the site. Now, all the pages need this navigation wrapped around it at all times, but because I didn't want the navigation to constantly load with each pagecall, I changed all my pages to partialviews. These partial views are loaded via the JQuery.Load() method whenever a menu item is clicked in the navigation. This all worked very good, up till now because I noticed it's also a requirement of the website to be able to link directly to page X, rather then default.aspx. So, as an example:The main page is my "default.aspx" page, this utilizes my master page with the nagivation around it. And each call to a new page uses a javascript function that loads that particular partial view inside a div that is known in my masterpage. So, the url never changes away from "default.aspx", but my content changes seemlesly. The problem is, those url's also need to be available when typed directly into the address bar. But, they're partial views, so loading them directly from the address bar makes them display without any masterpages around them. Therefore my question if it might be possible to capture the route typed into the address bar and pass that on to my javascript function that will load that route in the content div. (I hope I explained it ok enough, if not, feel free to ask more information)

    Hello all, I am caught in a strange requirement .See the following view hierarchy and scenario . I have a tab bar application in which I have three tabs . In first tab I am showing some content with a small image title and date (uitableview in navigation controller). In the detail view of that controller there are more buttons that shows different sorts of detail like gallery button and , more details button and some , more button . On tapping each button I will push each individual view controller in the main navigation controller . Now on the horizontal orientation I am showing same list of content but in the cover flow ( in modal view controller ) fashion like the ipod application . On tapping any image we will show the same buttons like gallery and more details and tapping on it will show the new controller with the following code : UINavigationController *modalNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:myPhotoController]; UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Back" style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:@selector(backButtonPressed)]; myPhotoController.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButton; [backButton release]; if([self.modalViewController isViewLoaded]){ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } modalNavController.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlackOpaque; [self presentModalViewController:modalNavController animated:YES]; [modalNavController release]; All this is working nicely . but when I get back the device in vertical orientation . the main modal controller will be dismissed and all the containing modal controller also will be dismissed if they are open or not . Instead of this what I want is If chooses an item in the coverflow and then if chooses gallery and if I put the device in vertical orientaion the gallery should be in the navigation hierarchy that drove me to the main list and gallery should be in horizonatal fashion . So what I want to do is that just to push the gallery controller in the main navigation hierarchy instead of showing from a madal controller . If someone wants reference then see the application "net a porter" I want to do like that . Just tell me how the controller hierarchy is working in that app . I need the help . Thanks

    I have a tab bar application with mixed orientation support for only some views. One of the child view controller shown from one of the tab's navigation controller is displayed only in Landscape mode. In order to accomplish this, I've done the view transformation for the child view as suggested here: Is there a documented way to set the iPhone orientation? The only problem I'm seeing is that after I've performed the orientation adjustment for the child controller and then readjusted orientation back to normal on its dismissal, the contents of the (parent) navigation controller is still shown with Landscape mode dimensions despite the navigation controller reporting the correct value for the interfaceOrientation. How do I ensure that view's size is reset to match the orientation without hardcoding screen dimensions?     So, i got this Navigation-based App (with a custom NavigationBar - Category) and I have 2 problems here... @implementation UINavigationBar (Custom) - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed: @"bg_toolbar.png"]; [image drawInRect:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height)]; } @end Because of the Navigation-based App, most of the views have a height of 436px (= ScreenSize - NavigationBar height, as you probably know ;). I got one view similar to the photo app overview showing all the thumbnails, from there I push a viewcontroller containing the scroll view (like in photos app) on the stack, like so - (void)buttonPressed:(id)sender { UIButton *btn = (UIButton *)sender; PhotoSetScrollViewController *psc = [[PhotoSetScrollViewController alloc] initWithPhotoArray:photos andID:btn.tag]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:psc animated:YES]; } Problem 1: The view holding the fullscreen scrollview has a height of 480px which seems to be a problem because when poping the viewcontroller by hitting the back button, the view containing the thumbnails (height 436px) moves upward below the navigation bar. And also the Toolbar keeps showing. What could be the problem? Problem 2: How could I switch between my custom navigation bar and the standard black translucent style?

    Hi, using ASP.NET MVC 2 I have a navigation menu inside my Master Page. In the navigation menu, I am trying add a class to the that the current page relates to (i.e., home page will add class="active" to the Home button). I'm trying to consider scalability and the fact that I don't want to change individual pages if the navigation changes later. The only way I can think of doing this is: Add JavaScript to each individual View that will add the class when the DOM is ready Return JavaScript when return View() occurs on point (2), I am unsure how to do.
