• How can I find the space used by a SQL Transaction Log?

  The SQL Server sp_spaceused stored procedure is useful for finding out a database size, unallocated space, etc. However (as far as I can tell), it does not report that information for the transaction log (and looking at database properties within SQL Server Management Studio also does not provide that information for transaction logs). While I can easily find the physical space used by a transaction log by looking at the .ldf file, how can I find out how much of the log file is used and how much is unused?

Does the Azure database work the same way as a straight install? Will it cost more or the same since I am just moving to a new server? Basically looking for advantages and disadvantages. • Why are there hard faults when my RAM is not 100% used?

  I've got 2GB of RAM and the resource monitor shows that it's only used about 75%. However there are some apps (NetBeans, Visual Studio) that every once in a while start making a lot of hard faults (up to and over 2000/min), thus predictably slowing down to a crawl. How is this so? The memory usage during these "fits" doesn't change. Perhaps it also includes memory mapped files or something?

• Any way to view dynamic java content ex-post? Browser session still open

  I feel like a grandpa from 1996 asking this, but is it at all possible to view a representation of a particular screen that was rendered as part of a java-based online checkout process I executed a couple days ago? I haven't cleared my browser cache or temp files or anything, and I don't think I've restarted the comp or even the browser since. I'm using mac OS X 10.6.8, and the page(s) were viewed with Chrome version 21.0.1180.89 in standard mode (not incognito). Specifically the page in question was part of Verizon Wireless's 'iconic' contract/checkout process, which leads the user through several pages to make selections on various criteria and seems to be based on java. (Obviously I'm a dummy regarding web stuff so the question is probably not very well defined, I'm happy to elaborate). ^This is the tl;dr question. If it belongs on another site please just let me know. Of course, clicking the link to the page in History right now requires a new sign-in and just returns the user to the initial step for doing the process again; it does not pull up a representation of the page as it was seen several days ago. This I understand. Instead using Chrome's integrated cache viewer by typing about:cache in the address bar, I can search and find links that appear to be relevant, when I click on the link I just get a http header and a bunch of hexadecimal gobbledygook. I've tried to use the URL at the top of the cache and URLs in the http headers, but they take me to current versions of those pages and not the versions I saw during the checkout process. I tried this with a few of them but stopped because I noticed that it updated the date in the http header to the present moment and I don't want to take chances overwriting the cache files since I don't know what I'm doing. (It's clear I can't achieve what I'm looking for by visiting current versions of these pages on the web…I should actually probably disable my network adapter while testing this out). The cache folder seems promising, but I don't know what to make of all that hexadecimal mess - if it contains what I'm looking for and if so, how to view it. Finally, the third thing I've come across is the Google Chrome cache folder on my local machine, at ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome/ then there are 'Default' and 'Media Cache' folders within. There are ~4,000 files in the former averaging ~100kb each, and 100 files in the latter averaging ~900kb each. The filenames all start "f_00xxxx" except for files titled data_0 through data_4 in each folder. I'm not sure how to observe the contents of these files and don't really want to start opening them up and potentially overwriting existing cached pages, as I notice there are already some holes in the arrangement of the files which I have never deleted manually. Hopefully this is an easy question to answer for someone who knows this stuff, admittedly web stuff is my weak point. As such, I've spent the past five hours searching around and trying to provide all the information I can. I'm probably asking for a miracle - like can those cached pages full of hexadecimal data be used to recreate the representation of the information that was on screen during the process? Or could screenshots of the previously viewed webpages be lurking in the /Caches folder? I have doubt because the content wasn't viewed at a permanent link, rather it seems like the on-screen information was served by Verizon's db, and probably securely so. I'm just not sure if Chrome saves the visual rendering of the page contents somewhere, even just temporarily. Alternatively I would be happy just to get the raw data that was on the page, even if not a visual representation…I just need to be able to demonstrate the phone line that was referenced on this page: https://preorder.verizonwireless.com/iconic/iconic/secured/screens/IconicFeatures.do . • No audio from USB device on iMac

  My computer froze the other day and started a buzzing noise. After I restarted in the middle of it, the buzzing persisted. A few restarts later, the buzzing stopped, but I can't get audio to come from my audio interface setup anymore. I'm using an M-Audiophile USB to connect to studio monitors, and there's absolutely no audio. I've tried restarting many times and unplugging - still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

• Slow Windows Explorer on Windows 7

  I have Laptop with i7 (4 cores), 8GB ram and SSD OCZ Vertex 3 MaxIOPS which in testing that I did just now does 400mb/s+ read/write. However the responsiveness of Windows Explorer is far from being perfect. Opening up Computer, Documents, going into folders is very slow (1-5seconds). I don't have any viruses or spyware and I have tried changing properties to optimize view for General Items. I tried disabling Search Indexer but it made search in Outlook 2010 crawl and didn't bring any other effect. Even double clicking on file takes some time to open things up (like clicking a Word document). I don't have any drives mapped, my computer is not joined to domain. I have multiple VPN connections that I connect to but they all have disabled default gateways. I tried using CC Cleaner or some Windows 7 Tweaks app to disable some things. I am power user using Visual Studio, Tortoise SVN and other developer/administration apps. Any non obvious ideas? Edit: So I've been trying to pinpoint where the issue comes from and it seems that straight after reboot Windows Explorer opens very fast, when I load 3-4 programs (Royal TS, Visual Studio, Outlook) it's noticeably slower and the more programs I have it gets worse. After I start closing programs it starts working better and if I leave 2 open it's fast again. I tried doing some research with DiskMon and other programs from sysinternals but couldn't find anything suspicious. • How to remove iso 9660 from USB?

  I have somehow managed to write an iso 9660 image onto my USB drive, which makes all my computer think that the device is actually a CD. I have tried various methods of removing this partition, but nothing seems to work. I have tried fdisk, which says $ fdisk -l /dev/sdb Cannot open /dev/sdb parted crashes when I try to use it on this device. I have even tried $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb but it just hangs with no output (either on screen or on disk). However, when I plug the USB in, it does mount, and I can view (but not edit) the files on it. edit: now the result is $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb dd: opening `/dev/sdb': Read-only file system I have also tried re-formatting it on Windows, but it gets to the end of the format process and then says "Couldn't format the drive". How can I remove this partition and get my whole USB drive back to normal again?   Hi all, I have been trying to upgrade our TFS 2005 to TFS 2010 but with no luck so far. I went through the TFS Installation guide and many upgrade guides but with no luck in overcoming the issue I am facing which seems to be unique and different to other described issues. In our company, we have a domain forest with several domains. Lets say domain A, B, and C. TFS is in domain A and has users from all these three domains. All domains have trust reltionships between them. However, domain C was deleted several months ago. I went ahead and created local users that matches the users we have from domain C and ran the TFSConfig Identities /Change command and it executed successfully. However, I still get the same error. I am stuck and can't figure out how to move forward :( I need your expertise, has anyone faced this issue before? Do I need to change these identities on TFS 2005 before I commence the upgrade? I forgot to mention, I am following the upgrade with a move approach. I created a virtual machine for testing the upgrade.   I have a Solaris 10 server on another network. I can ping it and telnet to it, but ssh doesn't connect. PuTTY log contains nothing of interest (they both negotiate to ssh v2) and then I get "Event Log: Network error: Software caused connection abort". ssh is defintely running: svcs -a | grep ssh online 12:12:04 svc:/network/ssh:default Here's an extract from the server's /var/adm/messages (anonymised) Jun 8 19:51:05 ******* sshd[26391]: [ID 800047 auth.crit] fatal: Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer However, if I telnet to the box, I can login to ssh locally. I can also ssh to other (non-Solaris) machines on that network fine so I don't believe that it's a network issue (though, since I'm a few hundred miles away, I can't be sure). The server's firewall is disabled, so that shouldn't be a problem root@******** # svcs -a | grep -i ipf disabled Apr_27 svc:/network/ipfilter:default Any ideas what I should start checking? Update: Based on the feedback below, I've run sshd in debug mode. • Testing my new 120 Hz monitor.

  I just got a Samsung Syncmaster 2233 at a local store, and it's suppose to reach 120 Hz frequencies. I plan on using it with Nvidia 3D vision later on, but I don't have the hardware for that yet. In the mean time, I just want to test the monitor to see if it's working ok. Obviously, if I set it to 120Hz I can't notice any visual difference compared to 60Hz. So how can I test if the monitor is reaching the higher frequency? Thanks

• How can I play my MP3 files through my stereo system?

  Here's the situation. Like many others I have my entire CD collection ripped to my PC, along side other music I've acquired through iTunes or Amazon MP3. Also like many others the speakers at my PC are underpowered, and likely included in my monitor as an afterthought. This is fine for most use: system sounds, YouTube, etc. Even games sounds and music. But I'd like something a little better for when I really want to listen to music. And I have it; in the next room — barely 25 feet away as the crow flies — sits a nice 400 watts stereo system. The stereo supports MP3 CDs, so up to this point I've just kept a few CD-RW disks around to keep most of my collection available. But it's time to move on to something a little more sophisticated. What are my options for using the MP3 files available on my computer as an input for this stereo? Some notes: I want to be able to control what song the stereo is playing without having to go to the PC, including setting up and retrieving playlists. Ideally this should even be able to wake the PC from sleep mode to start playing. I primarily use Windows Media Player on the PC (which runs Windows Vista). However, the files themselves live on a server running Windows Server 2008, and so I could also install something on the server and run everything from there. The axillary input on the stereo is unfortunately limited to a 1/8 inch stereo mini-plug. I'm loath to run wires across two rooms, and I'm considering moving the stereo to the garage at some point. Therefore a wireless solution that can easily cover about 100 ft or so is preferred. I already have a Wi-Fi network ready, but it's secured so anything using Wi-Fi should make it easy to set up security. Bonus points for doing it in under $85 shipped at Amazon (I'm hoping to pay for this via $85 worth of Amazon gift cards). I know this a pretty tight budget, so just getting close is okay. Bonus points for something that remembers multiple profiles (keep my favorite songs separate from the wife's). Bonus points for a remote that can also replace my stereo remote, so I only need one device to control everything. I'm not holding my breath on this one given my price range, though. Bonus points if I can also use for Internet radio. Doing some research on my own as well.   I have Exchange 2010 in hosting setup like: TMG 2010 as load balancer Exchange 2010 x 2 (CAS,MAILBOX,HUB on each server) AD1, AD2 machines File witness All people currently connect thru OWA or POP3/SMTP and that works fine. The problem is autodiscovery doesn't work and RPC in terms of setting up Outlook doesn't work too. It doesn't work if I am connected with VPN or not. The thing is it used to work. Before reinstall of my machine 2 days ago I was able to get mails successfully thru Outlook that was set up using autodiscovery (but I was getting reports setting up of new clients wasn't working - so not sure why my outlook continued to work). I used https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com to track it down and basically the message is more or less this: Attempting to ping RPC endpoint 6004 (NSPI Proxy Interface) on server autodiscover.domain.pl. The attempt to ping the endpoint failed. Additional Details The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process. • IIS 401.3 - Unauthorized on only 1 server out of 3 set up for network load balancing

  Over the weekend our Server Admin set up two virtual Windows 2008 machines with IIS installed and set them up under NLB. I came in and changed the application pool the website was running under to our domain account that has proper access to the database and the file share hosting our .NET web application Sitefinity, and changed it to .NET 4 Integrated. NLB and everything was running fine on both servers. He brought up the third server for our cluster on Tuesday and I performed the same actions.. The only difference was that I was given admin rights for the third server so I could set it up remotely instead of going to his office. He has full control over the share and NTFS perms on \\hostname\Sitefinity and I believe I only had read access. I pointed the web site to the same \\hostname\Sitefinity\sitename share that the others were on and the authentication/authorization test settings passed. I hit the site from http://localhost (like I did successfully from the other two before trying the cluster's IP address) and I received a HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized. I've verified many times that the application pool is running under the same service account. I tried hitting just a simple test.htm.. works fine on both of the first two servers but I get the same 401.3 on the third. I copied my dev project to the local inetpub directory and re-pointed the website and that ran perfectly. I turned on Failed Request Tracing and it acts like it's still running the local IUSR account I guess (instead of my domain account)? I created another under my own account and it still failed. It just seems like maybe it's not trying to access the files under the account my application pools are running under although that's the only way I've done things before. I set the Physicial Path Credentials in Advanced Settings on the site to the service account and it threw a 500 error of some sort so I assume that's not the answer (and I don't have to do it on the other servers). It's like somehow I'm trying to force impersonation on the IUSR account or something?
