• Countour Mapping API

  I have done some searching on Google, but haven't come up with much as of yet. I am wanting to take a set of point data, which I had previously been using to create weighted points for a heat map through the Google API, and turn them into a contour map to overlay on the Google Maps API. I haven't seen anything in Google's code that would let me do this. Does anyone know of a good API to create such an overlay? Or is there possibly something I have overlooked that Google offers?

  Installed HP Linux Imaging and Printing by using install script and something crashed. Now I'm only member of my own group and lp. Which are the default groups for users in Ubuntu 12.10? Same as this? And, out of curiosity, is there some place where this information is logged? As i.e. some log file showing which groups my user was on previous boot? And/or is this information ,(which groups are default), documented somewhere? OK Found answer. Adding when I'm able (haven't got enough points and have to wait hours to answer myself).

• Can I virtualize a pre-installed Windows 7?

  I am considering buying a new computer with Windows 7 (64-bit) pre-installed. Would it be possible to install Ubuntu (preferably 64-bit) dual-boot on such a machine, and then, using VirtualBox / VMWare, etc. under Ubuntu, make a virtual machine that "points to" the existing Windows 7 OS (without making a copy of it)? Just to be clear... at the end of this process: I would have a machine that dual-booted both Windows 7 (64-bit) and Ubuntu (64-bit). If I choose to boot Ubuntu, I would then have the possibility of running a visualization of Windows 7 within Ubuntu. There would only be 1 copy of Windows 7 on the hard disk.

  I must write a multiplayer pong game for the school. Where are thousand of rooms and where two players can go in to a room and play together and collect points. I programmed the Pong game using Java (LibGDX). How can I do the Network part. I searched the web. And I came across Kryonet. Is there something better? What should I google. On the Internet there are a lot of those questions. And no good answers. I hope that this most questions can be answered. • How do I get started with fog type effects in a first person game?

  Hey guys, I'm currently using JME3 to learn 3d game development in java, and I have run into a situation. I would like to add fog effects to my games, but I don't even know where to start to implement this. I know how to set the camera's far frustum to limit the render distance, but that just simply makes a sharp cutoff. I'd like the fog it up a bit to make it feel more natural. I'm looking for an answer that points me into the correct direction. I'm not looking for specific code snippets or even JME3's engine specifics. I just want to get an idea of how this stuff works in general. Thanks!

• Why do I need to republish a file when I update it?

  The story is: I am coding a program and at the same time, i want to share it with my group members using ubuntu. They don't have an Ubuntu One account and what I do is to publish the file and my friends just get the link and the file. But, strangely or not, every time I upload a new version of this file (I add more code and save it), the used link seems to be "outdated" and I need to publish the same file again and to get a new link every time i modify the same file. Couldn't it be possible to save a new version of your file and the same link just "points" to the newer version?

It builds upon the first milestone and adds several new features such as server-side asynchronous processing, server-side content negotiation, improved JAX-RS parameter injection, and several others. The REST endpoints can be published on Java SE HTTP Server, Grizzly 2 HTTP container, and some basic Servlet-based deployments. It also provides HTTPURLConnection-based client API implementation.   First of all I'm 26 and I'm asking this question because I want to see how do you manage your time. Also I'm interested how do the programmers with a family(wife, several kids) manage their time. I'm asking this due the fact that I'm working aprox 7,5 hours at work (9 to 5), spent 1,5 hours on the way to/from workplace, and when I'm home I must cook/clean/etc and LEARN! And I have the impression that I don't have enough time to learn. Did you have a period similar in your life? To want to learn another language/improve your development/other skills? I saw here and on SO that there are a lot of peoples with +10k points, this in my mind means that they stay on blogs/forums more than 15 hours a day. I checked various episodes from other points in time and none works. The "dots" that appear when a Silverlight video is loading are present, but after them there is only black screen (of death). I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 32 bit with GNOME2 and firefox 3.6. I have all updates done. Could somebody check if any video is working for them and tell me their setup, please? Best regards. Oliverka

  I've been programming in PHP for about a year and am at the following stage: Have a good 'feel' for the language Can create CRUD applications competently Can utilize an MVC structure to allow for future expansion of code Using the points listed above, I've created a number of my own applications for practise - including but not limited to; a forum, social network etc. My question may be a little vague but should hopefully be answerable. I feel as though there isn't anything else I would need to know about PHP to allow me to create websites, though I'm sure I'm wrong. What advanced/complex PHP topics could I look at that have a real-world use and will allow me to enhance both my skill as a programmer and applications in general? Recently I've looked a lot more at javascript/jQuery allowing me to give my applications a richer user interface which has been a great learning experience and proving very useful.

  Is there any hard data (studies, comparisons, not-just-gut-feel analysis) on the advantages and disadvantages of working from home? My devs asked about e.g. working from home one day per week, the boss doesn't like it for various reasons, some of which I agree with but I think they don't necessarily apply in this case. We have real offices (2..3 people each), distractions are still common. IMO it would be beneficial for focus, and with 1 day / week, there wouldn't be much loss at interaction and communication. To clarify: it's not my decision to make, I agree that there are pro's and con's depending on circumstances, and we are pushing for "just try it".   Let's assume we have an XmlDoc class that contains basic functionality for dealing with an XML data structure and saving/loading data to/from a file. Now we have several subclasses, A, B and C. They all inherit from XmlDoc and add component-specific methods for setting and getting lots of data. They are like "interfaces" but also add an implementation for the signatures. Finally, we have an ABCDoc class that joins all the "interfaces" via virtual multiple inheritence and adds some ABCDoc-specific stuff, such as using XMLDoc-methods to set an appropriate doc type. We may also have an ADoc class for only saving A data. How is this pattern called? "Interface" is not really the right word since interfaces usually do not contain an implementation. Bonus points for C++ code conventions.

In the function header used in the solution MEDIAN -SEARCH (A[1 . . l], B[1 . . m], max(1,n/2 - m), min(l, n/2)) I do not understand the last two arguments why not simply 1, l why the max and min respectively.   I am in the beginning of programming an iOS app. Having read the Apple guides on how to deal with errors, I got the following most important points: Exceptions are for programmers Use NSError for the user Now, NSError is usually passed as out-argument which can then be used inside and has to be checked by the caller. However, I'm asking myself whether it is a good idea to use a global error handler, say a singleton which wraps around NSError and could be used to trigger errors and error handling from within the called function. Is there anything against that method or would it be a bad practice?

  I am interested in studying algorithms and my strong points are problem-solving and logical thinking. However what I am guided toward is web-developing languages, SQL and they seem to not exploit the best out of me. I think it's because lots of people can learn these things easily, even steal ideas and copy code. Is that wrong? I was told that "learning algorithms is just for optimization, so you just need to know it (not a deep understanding)", but I think algorithms are my savior; it differentiates one man's abilities from others'. Also I'm learning C++ to benefit my future career. Many people say that web developer is a future trend, which worries me. I don't know what I need to standout in my career, and should I balance between web and software developing or just one? Should I work hard on algorithms?

• Rotate 2d sprite towards pointer

  I'm using Crafty.js and am trying to point a sprite towards the mouse pointer. I have a function for getting the degree between two points and I'm pretty sure it works mathematically (I have it under unit tests). At least it responds that the degree between { 0,0} and {1,1} is 45, which seems right. However, when I set the sprite rotation to the returned degree, it's just wrong all the time. If I manually set it to 90, 45, etc, it gets the right direction.. I have a jsfiddle that shows what I've done so far. Any ideas?
