  I don't quite understand what this means...I'm just learning C++ from my very very very basic Python experience...and so this may be a very stupid question. My question is...say you have your classic "Hello World" program and you have the line: cout<<"Hello World!"<<endl; what does the << mean...because I was just looking at using input in C and saw that you'd do something like: int i; cini; and I noticed that it has instead of << and I've read that those are bitwise shifts...and I don't exactly understand what those are...but I think it might be different here...Help...Thanks in advance

• How to disable VGA

  If i run lspci | grep VGA I get below output which tells me below VGA cards are present on my computer. 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220] (rev a2) 08:02.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc ES1000 (rev 02) The ES1000 is an onboard card which came with my machine. Do anyone know how to disable this VGA on my machine. The reason for this request is because if I run xrandr I get the output as shown below: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 50.0* 800x600 51.0 52.0 53.0 680x384 54.0 55.0 640x480 56.0 512x384 57.0 400x300 58.0 320x240 59.0 Which means I am not able to configure nVidia to accept smaller resolution. I haven't been able to access Ubuntu 12.04 since Windows 8.1 did some updates a few weeks back. Grub shows up and I can't see windows 8.1. How can I add Windows 8 using Boot Repair? I figured out how to install boot-repair in Ubuntu 14.04 by doing this workaround: https://bugs.launchpad.net/boot-repair/+bug/1267702 Most important thing: How can I add Windows 8.1 to the Grub menu using Boot Repair?   I'm tired of dealing with the disaster that is catalyst on a 4xxx IGP and I want to buy some discrete graphics that support both Unity and alternative environments like GNOME3 and Mate-Cinnamon without getting sluggish. Besides that, 1080p video and some light 3D gaming. Again nothing crazy, I'm not a designer and I wont be using stuff like Blender. One thing I want to make clear is that I want a GPU that is 100% compatible, that means no bugs, no glitches, not having to toggle between propietary and Xorg because it decided to crapout on me.   I'm assigned to a project where the goal is to update an existing software. This software was developed in a totally ad hoc manner, which means that any documentation generated is outdated, confused and just plain useless. I do not want to retroactivelly produce all the missing artifacts, since this would just be a waste of time. The code base is ugly, and really need some serious refactoring, but this is another story. What I want is to apply Readme Driven Development to guide this project. So, basically, I want to write a Readme, which will document every change meaningful at the user level. The problem is, I have no idea about how to structure this document. For me, it's pretty clear that it should have a different layout than the traditional Readme. I really want to document changes, and not the current state of affairs. Any ideas?

  I'm trying to write a Java formula based on this tutorial: 2-D elastic collisions without Trigonometry. I am in the section "Elastic Collisions in 2 Dimensions". In step 1, it mentions "Next, find the unit vector of n, which we will call un. This is done by dividing by the magnitude of n". My below code represents the normal vector of 2 objects (I'm using a simple array to represent the normal vector), but I am not really sure what the tutorial means by dividing the magnitude of n to get the un. int[] normal = new int[2]; normal[0] = ball2.x - ball1.x; normal[1] = ball2.y - ball1.y; Can anyone please explain what un is, and how I can calculate it with my array in Java?

Terminal says: adam@Adam-LT:~$ optirun firefox [ 1482.559417] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: Could not load GPU driver [ 1482.559517] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled. My laptop cooler always cools the laptop, which means that nvidia card is consuming power in the background. (Terminal sometimes says something daemon-server is not running.) Can you give me some solution for this?

• Is there a way to specify a CSS3 transition to occur only on :hover and when returning from hover, not on every event? [closed]

  You could define the transition on the :hover event, which causes the browser to render only the effect into the hover and not out of it. a:hover { transition... } Using scale as an example, an image being scaled up would scale up on hover, but go straight back down without any transition when the cursor leaves the image. Or, you can set the transition on the element directly: a { transition... } Which by definition means any change that effects the scale of the element such as any developer set styles will work, but also the user zooming in and out the page, will cause there to be a transition. All the tutorials being spewed onto the internet at the moment point to using the latter, but wouldn't one consider this a usability flaw for anyone wanting to resize the page or taking any other action that may cause similar scenarios? Pages with large amounts of transitional hover scaling can go pretty mental if you zoom in and out of them.

• How to update a mesh position base on a pressed key?

  I have a mesh loaded from a file, like a tiger mesh. At the first time it locates at A position, then if I press a left key, it will moves to B position but the problem is if I press a left key one more time, it will move from B position to C position. It means that the amount I want to move the mesh will base on the current position instead of the first time rendering position. I can do it if I have a array vertices then I just update the vertex buffer, but a mesh loaded from a file does not have an array vertices, so how to do it? Anybody help me, please?

• Writing files to an Airport Extreme using afp

  Using Nautilus I can connect from Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) to my Apple Airport Extreme using user & password without a problem. I can read, browse folders and delete files. However I cannot write files, the file is created, but the contents of the file are not transferred. The transfer fails with the error message "kFPMiscErr" which I think means that "authentication has already been established" ?. I have tried the command line tools for access using AFP but these do not work either. Is there a solution to this problem ?

I am trying to decide on how to make IoC work in Unity 4.X ( I have not yet tested anything), and I wonder what are the good ways of achieving it. This post and its answers states that Ninject won't work with Unity, however it is old. Is it still true? If yes, what are other means of achieving IoC in Unity ? Edit 1 : I am targeting mainly Windows platform. So I don't need platform interoperability, I just need it to work.

• Programming languages with extensible syntax

  I have only a limited knowledge of Lisp (trying to learn a bit in my free time) but as far as I understand Lisp macros allow to introduce new language constructs and syntax by describing them in Lisp itself. This means that a new construct can be added as a library, without changing the Lisp compiler / interpreter. This approach is very different from that of other programming languages. E.g., if I wanted to extend Pascal with a new kind of loop or some particular idiom I would have to extend the syntax and semantics of the language and then implement that new feature in the compiler. Are there other programming languages outside the Lisp family (i.e. apart from Common Lisp, Scheme, Clojure (?), Racket (?), etc) that offer a similar possibility to extend the language within the language itself?

• Cloud proxying service

  I have an app that mashes up images from Bing image search, it's hosted on Heroku written in rails. The app is client side in javascript, so the mashup is done on an html5 canvas - this means though that if I fetch the images direct from the Bing server, the canvas gets dirty and I can't save it. As a quick work around, i have set up a route on my rails app that simply proxies the request to Bing and passes the result back through. Obviously this is a very poor performance solution and will eat up my dynos very quickly. Can anyone suggest a more suitable option? At the moment I'm thinking maybe Amazon EC2 with apache mod_rewrite rules would be better performing and more cost effective. Is there a cloud service (or an app I could deploy to a cloud service) that would be more appropriate for proxying requests for me so that my javascript can fetch the images without dirtying the canvas?

  What policy do developers have when it comes to supporting earlier versions of Android? I still support Android 2.1 and above, but this means that I am unable to use features such as the action bar. Over 40% of my users are still running versions below 3.0, so I feel somewhat constrained about this. The problem is that 3.x was not very successful, so 2.3.x will be with us for some time. But all new devices will now be shipping with 4.x. I am wondering whether 4.x users are more likely to pay for an app, while most 2.3.x users are just looking.

  I am trying to make available on my website a voice chat for a small group of people that allows some other means to interact such as text messaging, photo sharing, file sharing, simple drawing and silly games. In other words, something similar to older MSN Messenger, but on the web. Any ideas on what to use? To clarify, I am looking for suggestions on languages and libraries to use. I want to be able to fully customize it as much as possible because I might want to add other (somewhat interesting) functions later.   I'm trying to learn how to code in MVC ... Normally what i do most times is that I write all the codes first, then break out the functions.. Have the functions into a seperate file and include it at the top of the page when I need it. 1) This method seem to work for me, although that means i require more time to make out the functions.   Booting an Ubuntu DVD, pressing F6 and then ESC presents the boot prompt with the default kernel options, with the possibility of editing and adding extra options. Something like: kernel /casper/vmlinuz boot=casper quiet splash -- Questions: What's the meaning of the two hyphens? When adding an extra option (such as "toram" or "vga=791"), is there any difference between adding it BEFORE or AFTER the hyphens? When typing commands in Bash, two hyphens in a row means "options end here; anything that follows should be treated as an argument, even if it starts with a hyphen". But the hyphens must have another meaning at the boot prompt, as "toram" or "vga=791" really are options.

• Database Context and Singleton injection with IoC

  All of the below relates to a ASP.NET c# app. I have a Singleton Settings MemoryCache that reads values from database on first access and caches these, then invalidates them using SQL Service Broker message and re-reads as required. For the purposes of standard controllers, i create my Db Context in a request scope. However, this obviously means that i can't use the same context in the Settings Cache class, since that is a singleton and we have a scope collision. At the moment, i ended up with two db contexts - the Controllers get it via IoC container, whereas a Singleton just creates it's own. However, i am not satisfied with this approach (mostly due to the way i feel about two contexts, the cache doesn't set anything on the db hence concurrency is not an issue as much). What is a better way to do it?

• Should Business Interfaces be part of the Model layer?

  In an oriented-services enterprise application, isn't it an antipattern to mix Service APIs (containing interface that external users depends on) with Model objects (entities, custom exceptions objects etc...) ? According to me, Services should only depends on Model layer but never mixed with it. In fact, my colleague told me that it doesn't make sense to separate it since client need both. (model and service interfaces) But I notice that everytime a client asks for some changes, like adding a new method in some interface (means a new service), Model layer has to be also delivered... Thus, client who has not interested by this "addition" is constrained to be concerned by this update of Model... and in a large enterprise application, this kind of delivery is known to be very risked... What is the best practice ? Separate services(only interfaces so) and model objects or mix it ?

  I'm looking for a label to describe the practice of using human-based computation methods or other means of "faking" an algorithm for the sake of getting a product or demo off the ground quickly without spending the time to develop an technical/scalable/analytical solution? Eg: using Amazon Turk to count the number of empty tables in a restaurant. I'm also looking to learn more about this subject, but not sure what to search for.
