• Stored procedure call in method with OperationBehavior attribute: problems with transactions

  I'm using ADO.Net's ExecuteNonQuery to call a stored procedure, works like a charm stand-alone but when implementing it where it should be called I'm running into problems concerning transactions. For example System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates a mismatching number of BEGIN and COMMIT statements. Previous count = 1, current count = 0. and also a timeout right after that. I've just found out the method which calls the stored procedure is marked with the following WCF attribute: [OperationBehavior(TransactionScopeRequired = true, TransactionAutoComplete = true)] How will this influence the call my stored procedure? How can I tell .Net to execute the stored procedure outside this transaction? The stored procedure contains insert statements and also a transaction, but removing them doesn't change the behavior...

• Constructor type not found

  Hello, What I am doing: I am taking the Microsoft Enterprise Library 4.1 and attempting to expand upon it using a few derived classes. I have created a MyLogEntry, MyFormatter, and MyTraceListener which derive from their respective base classes when you remove the "My" from their names. What my problem is: Everything compiles fine. When I go to run a test using Logger.Write(logEntry) it errors right after it initializes MyTraceListener with an error message: "The current build operation (... EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.LogWriter, null]) failed: Constructor on type 'MyLogging.MyFormatter' not found. (Strategy type ConfiguredObjectStrategy, index 2) I figured it was something to do with the constructor so I tried removing it, add it, and adding a call to the base class LogFormatter. Nothing has worked. Does anyone have insight into this problem? Is it maybe a reference issue? Bad App.config configuration? Thank you in advance

• Why do I get "could not load type" error with my custom SessionStateProvider

  My associate has created a custom SessionStateProvider for me to use with my ASP.net application. I add the file CustomSessionStateProvider to my VS2008 Web Application Project and put the appropriate reference in the web.config and it works fine. However, my supervisor wants me to set this up as a GAC reference. At my office, we have many DLLs we've created that we use as GAC references across different projects. If I add my CustomSessionStateProvider to the Global Assembly Cache, my pages throw a could not load type CustomASP.CustomSessionStateProvider error. Simple removing the DLL from the GAC makes it work again, but I want to set this up as a GAC reference. What could be causing this problem?

• Help: My SSL Certificate expired but I can't renew it until Monday, is there any way I can disable SSL through IIS?

  Or perhaps force redirect to HTTP when they request HTTPS? I tried removing the SSL port settings under 'Advanced' but it broke the login page. I don't want to do a deploy/recompile right now but I am able to edit the VIEWS. However I am thinking there may be a way for IIS to do this, but then again I think the .NET code tries to force SSL. And yes, the key is that more support tickets will be caused by the browser giving a security error than if SSL was removed entirely for one day. Becaues they wouldn't very very likely not notice it being gone.

• Google App Engine - Is this just a fluke, or could changing the version of an app improve cold-start

  Here is the situation: I had an app with a cold start time of about 4 seconds. I was trying to improve the cold start time by removing a bunch of libraries and code I didn't really need. After doing that the cold start time was about 3 seconds latency, and 3 seconds CPU time used. I changed the version number in appengine-web.xml, and nothing else. And now I have two versions of my app that have the exact same code, up and running. For cold starts, the newer version uses 1800ms to 1900ms in CPU time, and has 1800ms to 2300ms in latency. For cold starts, the older version uses 2800ms to 3000ms in CPU time, and has 2300ms to 3600ms in latency. So far I have sampled 4 cold starts for each version.

• Seam app with JBoss 'minimal' Config?

  I'd like to improve the performance of my Seam apps and JBoss appserver, particularly by removing things that aren't necessary in the standard configuration. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run it using the "minimal" profile. Can anyone give me any guidance as to what is needed to run a Seam app using "minimal"? Here are the kind of things my app requires: JPA, using Hibernate with a PostgreSQL backend EJB3 JSF (RichFaces/Facelets) E-mail, eventually, although not required at this particular moment I'll be developing my app using JBoss Tools on Eclipse, so I would also need anything that is required by the tools for development and deployment. I've found that the default configuration just has too many additional components and features installed by default, and that greatly affects performance when I'm trying to develop. Any help you can give would be great! Thanks!

• NSArrayController that is sorted and unique (no duplicates) for use in a pop-up in a core-data app

  I have core data app with an entity OBSERVATION that has as one of its attributes DEALNAME. I want to reference through Interface Builder or by making custom modifications to an NSArrayController a list of unique sorted dealnames so that I can use them in a pop-up. I have attempted to use @distinctUnionOfSets (and @distinctUnionOfArrays) but am unable to locate the proper key sequence. I can sort the ArrayController by providing a sort descriptor, but do not know how to eliminate duplicates. Are the @distinct... keys the right methodology? It would seem to provide the easiest way to optimize the use of IB. Is there a predicate form for removing duplicates? Or do I need to use my custom controller to extract an NSSet of the specific dealnames, put them back in an array and sort it and reference the custom array from IB? Any help would be appreciated. I am astounded that other have not tried to create a sorted-unique pop-up in tableviews.

• Why can't I expose an interface in a .NET asmx web service?

  I have a .NET web service (using asmx...have not upgraded to WCF yet) that exposes the following: public class WidgetVersion1 : IWidget {} public class WidgetVersion2 : IWidget {} When I attempt to bind to the web service, I get the following serialization error: Cannot serialize member WidgetVersion1 of type IWidget because it is an interface. I have tried adding various attributes to the IWidget interface (XmlIgnore, SoapIgnore, NonSerialized), but they are not valid on an interface. Does anyone know why I am unable to expose the interface? I assume WSDL does not support interfaces, but couldn't .NET get around this by simply not serializing the interface? Are there any ways around this apart from removing the IWidget interface from the WidgetVersion1 and WidgetVersion2 class definitions?

• Caching result of setUp() using Python unittest

  I currently have a unittest.TestCase that looks like.. class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): def setup(self): self.all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) def test_has_trailers(self): self.failUnless(len(self.all_trailers) > 1) # ..more tests.. This works fine, but the Trailers() call takes about 2 seconds to run.. Given that setUp() is called before each test is run, the tests now take almost 10 seconds to run (with only 3 test functions) What is the correct way of caching the self.all_trailers variable between tests? Removing the setUp function, and doing.. class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) ..works, but then it claims "Ran 3 tests in 0.000s" which is incorrect.. • Managing StringBuilder Resources in C#

  Hello. My C# (.NET 2.0) application has a StringBuilder variable with a capacity of 2.5MB. Obviously, I do not want to copy such a large buffer to a larger buffer space every time it fills. By that point, there is so much data in the buffer anyways, removing the older data is a viable option.   Let's say I have a C# method public void CheckXYZ(int xyz) { // do some operation with side effects } Elsewhere in the same class is another method public int GetCheckedXYZ(int xyz) { int abc; // functionally equivalent operation to CheckXYZ, // with additional side effect of assigning a value to abc return abc; // this value is calculated during the check above } Is it necessarily bad style to refactor this by removing the CheckXYZ method, and replacing all existing CheckXYZ() calls with GetCheckedXYZ(), ignoring the return value? The returned type isn't IDisposable in this case. Does it come down to discretion?

  Hi, I have a ListView in my android activity. And I populate the ListView by sub-class the BaseAdaptor (which returns a View in getView() method). What if in my click listener of a button in a list item view, I change the text of the TextView in the List item view or change the dimension of the list item view by adding/removing children of the list item view What is an efficient to refresh my listView? I don't want the listView to re-trigger a query since there is no data change. Thank you.

  Hello i have the following error: malloc: * error for object 0x2087000: pointer being freed was not allocated * set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug I have no idea what object that is. I don't know how to find it. Can anybody explain to me how (and where) to use malloc_history. I have set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break but i couldn't find out what object is at that address. I receive this after removing an object from an nsmutablearray and popping a view controller manually. • Implicit declaration when using a function before it is defined in C, why can't the compiler figure this out?

  As the title says, I know what causes this error but I want to know why the compiler gives it in this circumstance. Eg : main.c void test(){ test1(); } void test1(){ ... } Would give an implicit declaration warning as the compiler would reach the call to test1() before it has read its declaration, I can see the obvious problems with this (not knowing return type etc), but why can't the compiler do a simple pass to get all function declarations, then compile the code removing these errors? It just seems so simple to do and I don't believe I've seen similar warnings in other languages. Does anyone know if there is a specific purpose for this warning in this situation that I am overlooking?

• Configuring Warden for use in RSpec controller specs

  I was able to use Devise's sign_in method to log in a user in my controller specs. But now that I'm removing Devise from my application, I'm not quite sure how to get similar functionality working with just Warden on its own. How should I go about setting up spec/spec_helper.rb and related spec/support/*.rb files to get Warden running within controller specs sufficiently? I've tried setting up a file at spec/support/warden.rb with these contents: RSpec.configure do |config| config.include Warden::Test::Helpers config.after do Warden.test_reset! end end Then I have before calls similar to this to authenticate a user factory: before { login_as FactoryGirl.create(:user) } But here is the error that I keep seeing: NameError: undefined method `user' for nil:NilClass This error traces back to my authenticate_user! method in the controller: def authenticate_user! redirect_to login_path, notice: "You need to sign in or sign up before continuing." if env['warden'].user.nil? end I'd appreciate any guidance that anyone could provide.

• Making a relevant search of text in database using regex

  Can anyone tell me how I could count the possible instances of a keyword in a block of text? I've split a search term up into separate tokens, so just need to run through and do a count for every instance and removing punctuation or other special characters when making the count. Secondly, if someone has inserted search terms surrounded by double quotes, i want to be able to skip explode, but just count instances of that exact phrase. It doesn't have to be case sensitive and I would like to remove punctuation from the phrase when doing the count. Thirdly, in both cases i want to be able to ignore wordpress and html tags. Lastly, if anyone know any good tutorials for relevant searches that answer the questions above, that would cool too. • Eliminating cyclic flows from a graph

  I have a directed graph with flow volumes along edges and I would like to simplify it by removing all cyclic flows. This can be done by finding the minimum of the flow volumes along each edge in any given cycle and reducing the flows of every edge in the cycle by that minimum volume, deleting edges with zero flow. When all cyclic flows have been removed the graph will be acyclic. For example, if I have a graph with vertices A, B and C with flows of 1 from A?B, 2 from B?C and 3 from C?A then I can rewrite this with no flow from A?B, 1 from B?C and 2 from C?A. The number of edges in the graph has reduced from 3 to 2 and the resulting graph is acyclic. Which algorithm(s), if any, solve this problem?

  My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController.   So there are a lot of questions regarding this method on SO, but none seem to answer my question. I firstly had an issue with the connectionstring (although it seems to work in other areas of my code correctly). This was resolved easily. Now the issue is with a simple SELECT query via a OLEDBCommand (Text) that keeps popping up the following error? "SELECT [Opportunity#],[BidManager],[Prob %],[Opportunity_Stage].[Opportunity_Status],[Term],[Sign Date] FROM [Sheet1$];" No value given for one or more required parameters. but their are no parameters???? Checked and double checked the columns names, but to no avail. Also tried removing the special characters from the column names, but still the same exception.

• Django colon syntax in template tags: only in newer versions?

  I just deployed an application to a new server, and although I'm using virtualenv, I had to install a new environment on the production server, which has a different architecture. Anyway, I received no TemplateSytaxErrors in development, but on the production server, I get: Exception Type: TemplateSyntaxError Exception Value: Caught SyntaxError while rendering: invalid syntax (views.py, line 25) The offending line is: {% url admin:password_change as password_change_url %} Upon removing that line, the TemplateSyntaxError hops to the next line that has a colon in it (and lets other template tags work fine). So my question is this: is there some discrepancy in versions of Python/Django that would allow or disallow the namespacing syntax? The template tags are in django-grappelli (http://code.google.com/p/django-grappelli/), so I'd rather not go through their code and rewrite all the template tags. Development server: 32-bit Debian Python 2.5.5 Django 1.2.1 Production server: 64-bit CentOS Python 2.4.3 Django 1.2.1 Any ideas?

• TextField Caret Does Not Display in Actionscript 3

  Hello all, I am trying to display a text field that has text inside it, and display the flashing Caret at the end of the text. I have tried the following: Code: // ti_title is my textField stage.focus = ti_title; ti_title.setSelection( ti_title.length, ti_title.length ); I have also tried: // ti_title is my textField ti_title.stage.focus = ti_title; ti_title.setSelection( ti_title.length, ti_title.length ); The field is focused because I can type into it, but I do not see a Caret until I have started typing. This is not very good for usability. I have even tried removing text then re-adding it and then setting the selection again, but still not working. Any ideas? all the best nG

• Disable buttons on post back using jquery in .net app

  I have a asp.net app that I want to disable the buttons as soon as they are clicked in order to prevent multiple submissions. I'd like to use jquery for this as the site already liberally uses it anyway. What I've tried is: $(document).ready(function () { $("#aspnetForm").submit(function () { $('input[type=submit]', $(this)).attr("disabled", "disabled"); }) }); The above will disable the button, and the page submits, but the asp.net button on click handler is never called. Simply removing the above and the buttons work as normal. Is there a better way?

• Is there a shorthand version of HTML available?

  I remember reading an article about a shorthand version, or extension, of HTML a few months ago. Its purpose was to make HTML code significantly more concise, by removing end tags, and it may have allowed loops of some sort as well. I want to use it now, but I can't seem to remember what it was called. Searching online, I found HAML, but HAML syntax doesn't look like the example that I remember from the article. The syntax from the article made use of right angle brackets, which were a sort of replacement for indentation. Can anyone identify this language?
