  Is this possible to have two (or more) different kinds of cells to be displayed interchangeably in single column of C# .Net 3.5 WinForms DataGridView? • How do you get the width of an element without a defined width?

  How would you find out the width of a element that is wrapped by 20 odd other elements, but the only fixed width I know is the main wrapper's which is 800px. All child elements are generally blocks, floating or not, with different paddings and margins. I don't really need the answer to a specific case, I'm just wondering if there are tools or tricks to quickly calculate such things. Thanks

  Having an AVStream object how should I reliably distinguish whether this is video or image stream? I've tried to use duration. If it's 0 - we are having image (system constraints allows for such assumption). But it turns out that duration have special meaning for images - the number of images stored in file. Is there any tricks to detect image stream more reliably?

"/" <CR> Is there something similar which would let me create a directory from the current directory. Otherwise what are the other tricks you are using to create a directory and then create a file there.

  I've got to send a bulk email out to a bunch of people in reply to emails they sent me. I've got all the original emails stored in a single outlook folder. I want to extract all of the reply-to addresses from the emails in that folder so I can send an email to all of them. http://thetechieguy.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/extracting-email-address-from-outlook-2007-folder/ shows you how to export the FROM address of these emails, however a large amount of them came from a web service that sends emails 'on behalf of' the person I'm trying to mail to. So I need the reply-to address, and the export wizard doesn't do that. Does anyone have a tip on how to do this? This is Outlook 2007 on Exchange 2010.

• Oracle: FRM-41211 Error Message when starting a Report from Oracle Forms (64 Bit Windows Server)

  After installing Oracle Forms and Reports 6.0 (Patch 18) on a Windows 2008 64 Bit server we get the following error when we try to start a report from Forms. "FRM-41211 integration error: ssl failure running another product" The problem is reproducable on another server using the same Windows OS. One of the proposed solutions (extending the REPORTS60_PATH) we have already tried but that did not help solving our problem. Another tip has been to shorten the content of the path variable before installing Oracle Forms and Reports. We will try this later on another server. Any other tips or solutions for this error would be very much appreciated.

• Applying memory limits to screen sessions

  You can set memory usage limits for standard Linux applications in: /etc/security/limits.conf Unfortunately, I previously thought these limits only apply to user applications and not system services. This means that users can by bypass their limits by launching applications through a system service such as screen. I'd like to know if it's possible to let users use screen but still enforce application limits. Jeff had the great idea of using nohup which obeys user limits (wonderful!), but I would still like to know if it's possible to mimic the useful windowing features of screen. EDIT: It seems my screen sessions are now obeying my hard address space limits defined in /etc/security/limits.conf. I must have been making some mistake. • Error when starting Outlook 2007 on Windows 7

  Every time I start Outlook 2007 SP2 on my Windows 7 box Outlook will look like its loading fine, then I get this error message: cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window and outlook will close. I was able to get outlook to start by using outlook.exe /resetnavpane in the Start-Search box, a nice tip which I got from this social.microsoft.com page. But it didn't fix the problem since outlook is still complaining when it starts after a reboot. What can I do to get outlook to startup normally?

• Different color prompts for different machines when using terminal/ssh?

  I have 5 machines I constantly ssh into to do work. Its getting increasingly frustrating when I am issuing wrong commands on wrong boxes. Luckily I havent done anything bad yet. I wanted to know if there is any hack which I can hardcode which will display my prompt in different colors based on the machine I am ssh into? Such as blue for desktop1, purple for laptop, red for server etc? Is this possible? Currently I am using this command export PS1="\e[0;31m[\u@\h \W]\$ \e[m " taken from here http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/bash-shell-change-the-color-of-my-shell-prompt-under-linux-or-unix/ but it obviously doesnt work across ssh. Also, if you have any other cool bash tips for helping me ease my sight will be wonderful.   I have a question about viewing HTML emails in the Evolution mail client. Basically, I am receiving some emails that look lovely in Thunderbird but not in Evolution because the HTML rendering of Evolution isn't as advanced. Does anyone know how to improve the HTML rendering of Evolution? e.g. a plugin, tip, code patch, etc... The closest I've got is to right-click the email, "Save As...", save as a html file, then open in Firefox. Not exactly streamline! What emails can't it display well? We use the subversion revision control system which is set up to send an email whenever someone commits via svnnotify all nicely coloured via the --handler HTML::ColorDiff -d parameter. When Evolution fails to use the colours, I find it very had to read the raw diff.

• Best way to keep a MS DOS application alive? (Virtual MS DOS)

  Hi, I have a good old DOS application which is still required to run. Unfortunately the PC is dying and needs to be replaced. The PC was running Windows 98 and the software was executed in a MS Dos Command line. When we would order a new PC you would at least get a Windows XP which has the Win 2000 (NT) Kernel and is not DOS based. Now I need a strategy to be able to run a that DOS application on a new age PC. What I was thinking is to buy a standard office box and have a virtual PC or VMware setup which is running MS DOS and my DOS application? Would this be a way to go? Any concerns? What about 16Bit/32Bit… So any opinion, experiances or tip would be great …. Thanks

• Vim and mouse with ssh from Mac to Linux

  Hey. I certainly know it's possible to make the mouse work in Vim on a remote session to a Linux machine from my Mac, but I haven't figured out just how. Daily vim gives a tip on making it work but if I try to set 'mac-ansi', for example, I get an error saying I can only specify values beginning with builtin_ (riscos, beos-ansi, etc). I've tried using ssh -X, combined with set mouse=a and set term=builtin_anso for example, but with no success with or without combining them. I'm using Snow Leopard and attempting to use the mouse on a Debian machine with vim 7.1.314. I've had a look at the documentation but can't make it work. Any tips?

• Windows 8.1 Search does not automatically select first search match

  When I search in Windows 8/8.1 (start menu-start typing), it doesn't automatically highlight the search term. For example, if I'm trying to open the "Internet Options" panel and type the entire thing out in search, I have to down arrow or tab to the "Internet Options" search result. This is retarded. I'm used to Windows 7 style search where the first match is highlighted and i can easily just hit return. First match highlighting does work for other built-in things like "Control Panel", but it should work for all things in general, as it did in Windows 7 search. Anyways, if there is an option to enable this in Windows 8/8.1, I'd appreciate the tip. Thanks!

• Linux HA - Best Heartbeat hardware solution

  Hi all I would ask anyone what is the best layer 2 medium for heartbeat in Linux and how it's best configured. More precisely I've been thinking about a dedicated NIC for that purpose but then i thought that if a switch breaks then i would loose the heartbeat connection for most of the cluster and STONITH 'BUM'!!! Will probably loose my job after :) Distributing the heartbeat onto the main NICs of every node trough a vif sounds reasonable but im not sure if this is the best option (at least the switches are redundant to some extent). Is it possible to use heartbeat over a bonded interface and that sounds reasonable? Do you have any other tip/solution for that issue?

• rEFIt can't sync GPT and MBR after resizing boot camp partition

  I've been trying to follow the instructions here to increase the size of my boot camp partition: http://plonsdale.wordpress.com/2011/06/24/tech-tip-increasing-the-size-of-a-bootcamp-partition-with-free-tools/ I got as far as step 3 when I booted from the rEFIt CD. I selected the partitioning tool and it gave me the following message: Error: Not Found returned from gptsync.efi Now the Windows boot camp partition doesn't show up when I hold alt when starting my mac. Trying to boot into Windows using the rEFIt CD gives me a message saying no Windows installation is found. I then booted off the Windows 7 install CD and the 'repair' option gave me this message: This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows ...and if I try and go install a fresh version of Windows on this partition using the 'Custom (advanced)' option I get an error about the partition saying: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style

• Does kern.hz still have any relevance in FreeBSD if "dynamic tick mode" is enabled?

  I'm running a FreeBSD 9.0 setup as a virtual machine in a KVM setup. In previous versions of FreeBSD it was common to force the kern.hz setting to a lower value so that the virtual machine does not keep the host busy because it's handling timer interrupts without having any work to do - the FreeBSD Handbook explains: The most important step is to reduce the kern.hz tunable to reduce the CPU utilization of FreeBSD under the Parallels environment. This is accomplished by adding the following line to /boot/loader.conf: kern.hz=100 Without this setting, an idle FreeBSD Parallels guest OS will use roughly 15% of the CPU of a single processor iMac®. After this change the usage will be closer to a mere 5%. However, in FreeBSD 9, the "dynamic tick mode" (aka "tickless mode") is the default, controlled by the kern.eventtimer.periodic setting which defaults to 0 (read: tickless mode). This makes me wonder - does the tip of lowering kern.hz still have any relevance for making FreeBSD 9 play nicely in a virtual machine setup?

• Show which modifier keys are pressed during screen recording?

  I'd like to see which modifier keys I've pressed during screen recordings so my students can understand what keys I've pressed while I click and drag. Is there any software that can do this? I'm aware that Windows 7 does this internally, if there's a way to enable it. Windows 7 When you have a Wacom tablet connected to your PC, or if you have a Tablet PC, windows shows little yellow tip bubbles whenever you press modifier keys. Any way to enable these on a normal PC? Update: I've tried starting the Tablet PC Input Service but nothing happens. The Tablet PC Settings dialog has nothing interesting either. Is there a registry setting I can tweak?

• Plesk 9 VPS - Doesn't reply to NameServer requests (nslookup, etc)

  Hi, I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a new VPS i'm setting up. The VPS is running Plesk 9 on a CentOS 5 system. Everything works fine, except it doesn't serve dns requests. If I try something like nslookup [somedomain.com] the.ser.ver.ip to test a DNS query, i get the following error ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached I can't telnet to it on port 42 either.. I'm guessing something is blocking the requests.. firewall maybe? the plesk firewall module is installed and the nameservers entry is green. Any other way I can check what's blocking it on the server? Any help/tip greatly appreciated. Note: http works, i can telnet to the server on port 80 and i can also ping the server Thanks
