  • How do you determine an acceptable response time for App Engine DB requests?

    - by qiq
    According to this discussion of Google App Engine on Hacker News, A DB (read) request takes over 100ms on the datastore. That's insane and unusable for about 90% of applications. How do you determine what is an acceptable response time for a DB read request? I have been using App Engine without noticing any issues with DB responsiveness. But, on the other hand, I'm not sure I would even know what to look for in that regard :)

  • Eclipse 3.5: Implementing my own context menu for a MultipageEditorPart --> no viewer involved

    - by Patrick
    Hello! :-) In my current RCP-project i use a MultipageEditorPart. It has various pages, with simple SWT composites on it. The composites contain some Text and Combo elements. When the user right clicks onto the editor page, I want a context menu to open. This menu holds a command for creating a new editor page, with a composite on it. The command is already working, but I'm quite clueless about how to implement the context menu for the editor. Can someone help with this?

  • Hibernate criteria with projection not performing query for @OneToMany mapping

    - by Josh
    I have a domain object, Expense, that has a field called initialFields. It's annotated as so: @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.EAGER, cascade = { CascadeType.ALL }, orphanRemoval = true) @JoinTable(blah blah) private final List<Field> initialFields; Now I'm trying to use Projections in order to only pull certain fields for performance reasons, but when doing so the initialFields field is always null. It's the only OneToMany field and the only field I am trying to retrieve with the projection that is behaving this way. If I use a regular HQL query initialFields is populated appropriately, but of course I can't limit the fields. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

  • how to import other schema jars when using the scomp tool

    - by MikeJiang
    there is a huge amount of xml schemas for the business, some of them are common types like Money.xsd, Address.xsd, etc, while others are business specific like Customer.xsd, ShippingOrder.xsd, etc. So I decide to compile these schemas into 2 jars, one is commonbeans.jar, the other is businessbeans.jar. I've separated them into different folders. to build the commonbeans.jar is simple, just run "scomp -out commonbeans.jar ....\common*.xsd"; while run "scomp -out businessbeans.jar ....\business*.xsd" is a different story, there are errors say can't find those common types, and run "scomp -out businessbeans.jar ....\business*.xsd ....\business*.xsd" will blindly duplicate all the common types into the businessbeans.jar. so is there any way to link the commonbeans.jar when compile those busimess schemas, maybe something like "scomp -out businessbeans.jar ....\business*.xsd commonbeans.jar". I hope my poor english has expressed my issue!

  • Why my object sees variables which were not given to it in the constructor?

    - by Roman
    I have the following code. Which is "correct" and which I do not understand: private static void updateGUI(final int i, final JLabel label) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater( new Runnable() { public void run() { label.setText("You have " + i + " seconds."); } } ); } I create a new instance of the Runnable class and then in the run method of this instance I use variables label and i. It works, but I do not understand why it work. Why the considered object sees values of these variables. According to my understanding the code should look like that (and its wrong): private static void updateGUI(final int i, final JLabel label) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(i,label) { public Runnable(int i, JLabel label) { this.i = i; this.label = label; } public void run() { label.setText("You have " + i + " seconds."); } }); } So, I would give the i and label variables to the constructor so the object can access them... By the way, in the updateGUI I use final before the i and label. I think I used final because compiler wanted that. But I do not understand why.

  • How to pass initialisation parameters to a web service in Netbeans

    - by Bob Roberts
    I have built a web web service with Netbeans 6.8 using the "Web Service from WSDL" wizard. It has generated the binding classes and a skeleton for the class implementing the web service. I've set some initialization parameters in web.xml, under the servlet corresponding to the web service. Now I'd like to pass those parameters to the class implementing the web service. How can this be achieved (preferably without editing any of the code auto-generated by Netbeans)?

  • Explicitly multiplying values as longs

    - by Bill Szerdy
    I understand that all math is done as the largest data type required to handle the current values but when you transverse a loop how do you explicitly multiply longs? The following code returns 0, I suspect, because of an overflow. long result = 0L; List<Long> temp = (List<Long>) getListOfIntegers(); for (int i = 0; i < temp.size(); i++) { result *= temp.get(i).longValue(); } System.out.println(result);

  • PostgreSQL like + Hibernate problem

    - by Marat_Galiev
    Hi all. I want to do search in PostgreSQL for INTEGER based columns. if (!sSearch.isEmpty()) { sSearch = sSearch.replaceAll("[^a-zA-Z0-9]", "_").toLowerCase(); String[] search = sSearch.split(" "); sWhere = " "; for (NewsColumns column : NewsColumns.values()) { for (String s : search) { sWhere += "lower(" + column + "::TEXT) LIKE '%" + s + "%' OR "; } } sWhere = sWhere.substring(0,sWhere.length()-3); } Ok, I want to convert INT value to String before search, with '::TEXT' expression. But after executing I'm getting: org.hibernate.QueryException: Not all named parameters have been set: [:TEXT] [select * from news WHERE lower(ID::TEXT) LIKE '%5%' Exception. Looks like hibernate parse my convert exp as parameter. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Google App Engine - DELETE JPQL Query and Cascading

    - by Taylor Leese
    I noticed that the children of PersistentUser are not deleted when using the JPQL query below. However, the children are deleted if I perform an entityManager.remove(object). Is this expected? Why doesn't the JPQL query below also perform a cascaded delete? @OneToMany(mappedBy = "persistentUser", cascade = CascadeType.ALL) private Collection<PersistentLogin> persistentLogins; ... @Override @Transactional public final void removeUserTokens(final String username) { final Query query = entityManager.createQuery( "DELETE FROM PersistentUser p WHERE username = :username"); query.setParameter("username", username); query.executeUpdate(); }

  • Download dynaic file with GWT

    - by Maksim
    I have a GWT page where user enter data (start date, end date, etc.), then this data goes to the server via RPC call. On the server I want to generate Excel report with POI and let user save that file on their local machine. This is my test code to stream file back to the client but for some reason it does not know: public class ReportsServiceImpl extends RemoteServiceServlet implements ReportsService { public String myMethod(String s) { File f = new File("/excelTestFile.xls"); String filename = f.getName(); int length = 0; try { HttpServletResponse resp = getThreadLocalResponse(); ServletOutputStream op = resp.getOutputStream(); ServletContext context = getServletConfig().getServletContext(); resp.setContentType("application/octet-stream"); resp.setContentLength((int) f.length()); resp.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename*=\"utf-8''" + filename + ""); byte[] bbuf = new byte[1024]; DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(new FileInputStream(f)); while ((in != null) && ((length = in.read(bbuf)) != -1)) { op.write(bbuf, 0, length); } in.close(); op.flush(); op.close(); } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } return "Server says: " + filename; } } I've red somewhere on internet that you can't do file stream with RPC and I have to use Servlet for that. Is there any example of how to use Servlet and how to call that servlet from ReportsServiceImpl

  • how to invoke a webservice from one container in another container in glassfish

    - by vinny
    I have webservices deployed on two containers in two separate servers A and B. A webMethod in 'Server A' needs to invoke a webmethod in 'Server B'. I have created a client stub for Sever B. Im trying to make 'Server A' use this client stub and talk to Server B. I get an exception while trying to instantiate the port object specifically at : service.getABCBeanPort(); (using JAX-WS library) Is my approach correct? Is there any better way of invoking a webservice on a remote server?

  • I would like to useJava 7's FileVisitor to walk up a tree

    - by John Ormerod
    I have looked and searched for some guidance on how to start at a low point in a path and walk up (or 'back'), until I find a folder with the name I am searching for. The FileVisitor class looks like it ought to be able to help me, but it only seems to work from head to toe. Is there something that someone could point me to? Thanks, John {edited: I seem to be discouraged from saying thanks to the two people who replied in a comment. So thanks! I had a 'duh!' moment when I saw the simple approach. And the article looks useful to someone starting to use FileVisitor. Put them together, and I could go up and then down, if I needed to. John]

  • lucene get matched terms in query

    - by iamrohitbanga
    what is the best way to find out which terms in a query matched against a given document returned as a hit in lucene? I have tried a weird method involving hit highlighting package in lucene contrib and also a method that searches for every word in the query against the top most document ("docId: xy AND description: each_word_in_query"). Do not get satisfactory results? hit highlighting does not report some of the words that matched for a document other than the first one. i am not sure if the second approach is the best alternative.
