  I'm running a Centos 6.4 server with cPanel. WHM (admin side panel) shows about 100GB of bandwidth this month. However, the server's RTG shows 3.4TB last 30 days, 121GB past 24 hours alone. Doesn't make sense. I'm trying to trace the cause of this. It's a shared web hosting server for approximately 300 domains. I would appreciate help tracing this down somehow.   I am attempting to poll the temperature of an HP ProCurve 3500YL switch remotely using SNMP. Looking at this MIB, it appears that the following OIDs: hpCpuTemperature 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.17.7.1.1.1.6 hpPowerSupplyTemperature 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.17.7.1.1.1.7 hpChassisTemperature 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.17.7.1.1.1.8 Within the 'hpProcurveSysMib' should provide the data I need. However, whenever I attempt to access these OIDs, I receive the response: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.11.2.3.7.11.17.7.1.1.1.6 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID Further investigation reveals that the switch in question does not appear to implement the parent hpProcurveSystem MIB: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.11.2.3.7.11.17.7.1.1 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID Does anyone know of an alternative MIB implemented by the 3500 that will allow its temperature to be polled automatically?

• Is Displayport preferable to DVI for monitor connections?

  I'm currently running a single Dell 24" (2408WFP) screen, but am considering adding a second. The problem I've got is that I'm currently using the DVI connector to the on board graphics, so will need to purchase a new graphics card. The 2408WFP also has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so I was wondering if DisplayPort is worth considering at present over DVI? On the same subject, does anyone actually manufacture reasonably priced DisplayPort cards - all I've managed to find seem to very expensive workstation cards aimed at financial/design/simulation markets.

• After installing Win7 on my laptop I'm having trouble extending the desktop to an external monitor

  I have a HP TX2000 laptop and a HP w2408 screen. Yesterday, I installed Win7 and I'm having trouble having the 24 inches screen work as a secondary screen. It seems like my laptop cannot detect both screens (its own and the 24 inches one). I think I already have all the drivers installed (I ran Win7's tool to detect and automatically update drivers and it said everything was up to date!), so what might be the problem? If I connect the 24 inch screen to my laptop, it will happily show a copy of what is being shown on that big screen too, but I'd like to have it ''extend'' the desktop to the big screen, instead.

• Using using a DVI instead of a VGA increase computer screen monitor resolution

  This is for a computer screen. Both my video card and computer screen have DVI ports on them but I'm using a VGA. I'm wondering if there would be a difference if i switch from VGA to DVI. My current resolution is 1920x1080 with the VGA cord. will my resolution increase if i switch to a DVI? Are there any advantage of switching from VGA to DVI? If there will be a difference if i switch, I've read there are 5 different type of DVI cables. how do I know which one to buy?

• Virtual PC duplication process

  This is the process I use for duplicating a Virtual PC (on Windows 7): 1 - Create a new VPC. 2 - Install Windows 7 on the new VPC. 3 - Configure the new Windows 7 installation (install Windows updates, install applications, etc). 4 - Run Sysprep on the new VPC. 5 - Shut down the new VPC. 6 - Make a copy of the new VPC's VHD file. 7 - Create a new VPC, specify "use existing VHD file" in the wizard and provide the name of the copied VHD file. Above works fine but there is one point that threw me off: During the OOBE for the duplicated VPC, when asked for a user name, I had to specify a different user name than the one I had specified for the base VPC. This makes sense because the copied VPC already has that user name. But what I did not understand is why I was asked for a new user name at all? Is it because it is part of the OOBE process and when the OOBE was designed by Microsoft, they did not think of the fact that base OS images could be copied? Thanks - -Todd

Can you point out an app or script (i don't wanna install powershell, is this doable???) that copies some larger files from one folder to another to get the free space out of the multiple of 4Gb range.   I use Drupal, and instead of having to use the formal interface to make small changes to a site all the time, I am wondering if there is a way to determine what modifications Drupal makes to the database so that I can make them manually the next time. For example, if I use Drupal’s interface to add a module to the site, I would like to be able to find out what database entries it changes/adds so that if I want to add another module, I can add or change the file or database entry myself instead of having to go through Druapl. This way, I can have better control over the system as well as gain a greater understanding of how it works underneath. My environment is Windows XP, MySQL latest stable, phpmyadmin.

  I've got a laptop with a DVI and VGA output on the back. With everything connected it will only allow me to run 2 of the 3 monitors e.g. laptop display + VGA or DVI+VGA but not all 3. xrandr says I have 2 CRTC's, 0 and 1. The internet says I should be able to share a CRTC if the modeline is the same, and my 2 external monitors are the exact same make and model. How do I convince the software to drive all this hardware?

  What is the process that you guys follow to maintain authentication details like login ids and passwords? There will be definitely some shared passwords. So, the target is to minimize the impact when someone is leaving the company. By "shared password", I mean, the account, which is shared among multiple people in the company. The issues that the process should address are: - Affected areas. Quickly find the resources to which the leaving user was having access to. Forgetting password. What happens if a user forgets an authentication details? How does he get it? I think he shouldn't ask a team mate. I mean no-verbal communication. Find dependencies of a resource. Suppose I am changing the password for a mail account, which is getting used by some automated scripts to send mails. Here, the scripts are dependent on the mail account, so changing the password of the mail account means we have to change the password in the script too. So, how do find all the dependencies of a resource? I'd prefer a process which addresses these issues. But you can also recommend products which are open source and not hosted. I have gone through PassPack, but they don't solve #4. There is a similar question here. But that does not exactly answer my question.

• Understanding Exchange User Monitor (ExMon) Output

  I recently downloaded and ran ExMon while trying to troubleshoot Outlook connectivity problems due to high CPU usage on Exchange Server 2010 SP2 UR8. The tool provides a great set of data, but I have not yet figured out how to make great use of it. My first question is why the Exchange Server itself shows up as a high-use MAPI client in the ExMon data. Among the users' client versions I see build numbers listed for Outlook 2013, 2010, and yes, even 2007 clients. I also see build number 14.2.387.0, which represents Exchange Server 2010 SP2 Update Rollup 8 (+/- some other patch that makes it not quite match the UR8 number). There are many user rows that list only "::1" and/or the short hostname of my Exchange server in the 'Client IP Addresses' column. Some other columns include the end-user's actual IP address and the Exchange server's IP address. ExMon shows that it is actually Exchange Server that is utilizing the highest percentage of CPU that is used for MAPI calls. I had expected to see 1 IP address and version number for each user reported by ExMon. Instead, most records show multiple version #'s (Exchange ver and Outlook ver) and multiple IPs (Exchange IP and client IP). Can anyone explain the reason for this to me, please?

• Printer monitor software across multiple workstations (AD integrated)

  I was asked to see if there is any kind of (free) software that allows multiple people in an office that use the same printer to see what jobs have finished recently, which are queued and which is printing. Main reason is that sometimes multiple people have the same task where they need to print some kind of form, and they are unsure whether or not their colleague has already printed the file. Because the printer is AD integrated, they only see a short message when printing, but they do not see a proper printer queue. A simple tray icon/tool would be perfect, no real graphical user interface is required. If this turns out to be too hard to find, I will attempt to write a simple application or script for the job, but since this is a low priority job I decided to ask here first before I start messing around with scripting which isn't my forte. • Only two monitor ports are detected on nVidia Quadro NVS 450

  I have an nVidia Quadro NVS 450 installed in a Dell Optiron 380. Only DisplayPort #1 and DisplayPort #4 are detected by windows. The machine has a BIOS setting to automatically choose the primary video card, or to disable the primary when a PCI-e card is installed (which it is). Windows cannot see DisplayPort #2 and #3 no matter what I do. I have tried the Windows Drivers, latest nVidia Drivers - no dice. I am assured that this video card cannot break in this way. I'm plum out of ideas. I've tried reseating the video card. I've contacted Dell and they've remoted in and looked around - threw their arms up after two hours. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. All four monitors are 1600x1200 Dell monitors.

B can mount A either as CIFS or NFS (Services for Unix NFS server running on A). This is an absolutely time critical operation. What is the best way of achieving this? Note: benchmarked NFS vs CIFS and CIFS was faster and there was less variance in the speed (haven't tuned the NFS setup at all)

• Some process/service/driver repeatedly presses F5

  Hi everyone, I have the strangest problem that started 2 days ago (Windows7, 64bit). SOMETHING causes my F5 key to be constantly pressed. Rebooting helps, but only for a while, it keeps coming back to that. So far I've tried to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard (physically), however, disconnecting the keyboard doesn't actually do anything. Reconnecting it back again, causes the F5-pressing to stop, but not for very long (seconds/minutes). I'd really like to avoid a binary search for the programs (process closing/keyboard switching/etc) before I can, at the very least, identify the source of the keypress. Is there an application that can show me what is causing a key press? E.g is it the keyboard driver, or some process that executes SendKey repeatedly for reasons unknown. Thanks! P.S FYI, having F5 causes the strangest side effects. Task Manager refreshes very very quickly (as F5 is refresh), the desktop is constantly flickering and all the browsers stop working as they keep trying to refresh. I was lucky to find out what the heck is happening only because I started notepad and saw that current date/time started to appear constantly. If not that, I'd still be wondering.

Knowing the file's name/path, I'm looking for quick (and dirty if necessary) way to identify how many times a given image was served by Apache on each Day (or hour?).

• Laptop HDMI out to monitor DVI in

  I have a laptop that i'm trying to fix, and it has HDMI out. I have a cable i bought for my HTPC which does DVI out to HDMI in, which worked fine. Was hoping to be able to use this same cable for HDMI out to DVI in, is it possible? UPDATE: Point of clarification, The laptop's display doesn't work (it was dropped) and I'm trying to figure out what's working and what isn't. in addition to HDMI out, it has VGA out, but that seems to have a short in it, and doesn't display properly (sometimes it works, sometimes, it shows stuff in 256 colors in 800x640). I can tell the LCD screen works (comes on) so i think it's whatever is carrying the data to it that doesn't work. I know more often than know, the display is what breaks... The cable i'm using is a standard HDMI to DVI cable, there are no audio connections or anything. Thanks!

• Looking for a host based network monitor solution

  Hi all! Problem So, my hosting company has a network usage graph for my dedicated server. It seems that one day earlier this month, my network usage suddenly spiked with several hundred megabytes transferred (usually it's in the tens, not hundreds). It was probably me, but i just can't be sure who or what it was. Question So my question is; does anyone know of any host based solution for monitoring network usage that would tell me the client's IP-address, the port/service he/she used? What I don't want I'm just guessing that someone will suggest i use nagios, munin, zabbix, cacti, mrtg - I've also looked at those, but a graph over network usage will not give me the answers I'm looking for. :-) Almost there I've already looked at a lot of monitoring solutions, and I've tried [ntop][http://www.ntop.org/], [darkstat][http://unix4lyfe.org/darkstat/] and others. Darkstat just didn't give me the answers. Although it listed a lot of statistics, and i could list the clients - it doesn't show me the network usage for a particular period. Ntop is by far the best I've seen so far - but i think it mostly shows current network usage, not the historical part. I could run apt-get upgrade and download a whole bunch of software, but not see it in the log afterwards.

• Howto monitor traffic between IIS and MSSQL

  Hello @all, i try to check how much traffic flows between MSSQL Server and IIS Server in different Locations. There are 1 ipcop in every Location and i download the tcpdump file from one Firewall and search for DST=ipmssql and SRC=ipIIS but i did not find the ip from the Database Server. But there are traffic between both. Any suggestions why i did not find the IP Adress from the MSSQL Server? Is this an configuration failure in IPCop or is the Traffic between ISS and MSSQL so strange :-) Regards Rene

• Tools to monitor guest OS performance in vSphere

  I am looking for some tool or way to retrieve performance data from guest VMs running under vSphere 4.1. I am currently interested in the 4 basic metrics: CPU(%), Memory(%), Disk availability(%) & Network utilisation(Kb/s). The issue I have is that all of vSphere's performance data is from a ESXi host perspective (active, shared, consumed, overhead, swapped etc.) which is far removed from the data from the VM's own perspective. For instance, I have a Windows server VM idling, using around 410MB (~25% of its allocated 2GB) as reported by Task Manager, and this is the value I'm after. vSphere's metrics seem unable to arrive at this figure by any reliable and repeatable means. Is anyone aware of tools that can obtain this kind of data? The simpler, the better.
