• How does one launch PhpPgAdmin?

  I just installed postgresql, php5 and in particular PhpPgAdmin using Ubuntu's synaptic app. The PHP is running fine, the http server (lighttpd) is working fine, and I can do pg a the command line. The only thing that remains a mystery is PhpPgAdmin - just how does one fire it up to use it? I am clueless about the proper means of starting PhpPgAdmin; it isn't explained anywhere on the site for it. I tried typing phppgadmin at a bash command prompt, and entering "http://phppgsdmin/" and "http://localhost/phppgadmin" as wild guesses in the address bar in a browser - nothing happens. What is the secret? BTW, i'm only serving http on localhost, doing purely private web development.

• Exchange Server Contact Categories - How to Remove/Update All

  I've been tasked with cleaning up our companies contact database sitting on our Exchange Server 2003. The rub is this database of contacts has been neglected for the past couple of years and is now a bit messy. My issue is I have say a person named 'Bob Smith', and Bob is listed in multiple categories, 'Students' and 'Student'. I would really like to remove the 'Student' category from Bob and anyone else out there that has the same category. My question is, is there an easy way to edit the master category lists for contacts on the exchange server? I feel like I am missing something simple here since if I were playing with the categories that I use, to say organize email its very easy to do so, but I can't seem to find the proper way to do it for categories that are up on the server. I'm attempting to work through Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003. Any insight would be very helpful as I really don't want to change 8000+ contacts by hand.

  I have two ASA in a lan state primary\secondary configuration. None of them have "failover active" or "no failover active" in their configuration. Would it be proper to failover in a manner such as: Log into console of primary unit and issue "failover lan state secondary", log into the console of the original secondary unit and issue "failover lan state primary". To fail back simply reverse the process or Log into the console of the primary unit and issue "no failover active", log into the console of the original secondary unit and issue "failover active". To fail back issue "failover active" on the original primary (now secondary) unit, and "no failover active" on the now primary unit. I do not like the second method because it adds configuration directives that were not in place before. Will the first method work?

  I have recently bought an amazon ec2 instance. Now I want to host a website. I have googled and found some useful info but there is some confusion in my mind. Suppose domain name is "http://www.example.com" That's what I have done so far. I have configured my domain locally on amazon ec2 instance and it's working fine when I open that url in amazon ec2 instance's browser. I have used http://www.example.com in /etc/hosts file point it to 127.0.0.1 to open locally on instance. I have got one elastic ip address and associated it with the instance. I have changed http://www.example.com A's record with the elastic IP that I have got in above step. Now what should I do? When some user will open my website anywhere in the world, will it get pointed to my instanace's ip address? Have I done proper configurations for website on instance?

  When I let Windows-7 use DHCP to find its own DNS server, everything works fine. Then I use ipconfig to get the IPs of the DNS servers in question, and specify them manually. Now the network stops working. (I need to do this because my next step is to restore the router that is going to lie about the proper DNS server. Don't ask why, it is required by my father's work. The IT there are not exactly on the ball.) Why would this make a difference? It is the same set of servers, just obtained differently.

• How to set global PATH on OS X Server 10.6.6?

  I'm running Tomcat on OS X Server 10.6.6 under the normal Web component that comes with the OS. This has worked fine so far, but I need to add some entries to the $PATH environment variable for programs that I want access to from the web server (more specifically, I'm running Hudson under Tomcat which needs access to build tools that I have installed). Tomcat and the Web component seems to run under the user _appserver which has a different $PATH than the administrator account. What's the proper way to add a global entry to the $PATH in OS X Server for the Web component? Preferable it should be done only once so that both the _appserver and Administrator user can access the same $PATH. EDIT: Adding the path to /etc/paths or /etc/paths.d/somefile didn't work. Tomcat and Hudson does still not see those directories.

• Trouble with installing VMWare-Player 3

  After downloading the VMware-Player 3 from the VMware-Site I wanted to install it; because I used an older VMware-Player the system wanted this to be deinstalled this version first. After starting the deinstallation I had trouble with my machine - shutdown - now I have no proper deinstallation of the older VMware-Player and everytime, I want to install the 3.0, I get an error-message. Is there any possibility, to clean up the rest of the older installation (3-4 processes are still active or are starting again, when I try to close them and therefore I can't delete different .dll-files by hand)? I spent the last two days understanding the basics, including experimenting with WireShark to catch an example of message exchanged. Now I would like to query the DNS without using dig or host command (I'm using Ubuntu); how can I perform this action at low level, without the help of these tools in wrapping the request in a proper DNS message format? Currently they are on an owned email server and I am collecting emails via IMAP protocol (i would not like to use POP..) in Thunderbird. I have a few partners and I want to allow them to access the same email address. Here is what I desired: All users can open All the inboxes via IMAP @ Thunderbird (with proper configuration) at the same time, there are a webmail system, every user can login their account (userA, userB, userC), and they will see all inboxes (email@domain1, email@domain2, email@domain3) Would you recommend any suite that fits my needs?   My Linux server is connected to AD via Bind DN and password (without domain joining). It is using sssd for authentication. I am able to ssh and login without any issue. I have a proper setup of uid and guid, etc. .. There is no issue with logging to the linux server. I want the samba service to use AD accounts, but I can't find documentation for how to configure it in this case. Can anyone explain how to configure samba to use active directory for authentication on a system using sssd?

  Hi, I have an network configuration like: Ethernet cable from ISP connected to Windows XP machine, configured with static IP 192.168.0.3 Another ethernet connection from 2nd Windows XP machine's network adapter to a Wi-Fi router (D-Link Airport G+) XP set to "Share internet connection", the 2nd adapter configured as static to 192.169.0.1 D-Link Airport Wi-Fi router also configured as "static connection", it's IP set to 192.169.0.2, default gateway set to 192.169.0.1. Network mask everywhere is 24. Laptop computer connected with the router with static IP 192.169.0.3 The problems are: XP machine sees the router (it's able to ping it and access it via the web admin tool) The router somehow cannot PING the XP machine (using the tool provided by the web-based admin tool) The laptop computer cannot ping anything and cannot be pinged The router is only accessible when the ethernet cable is connected with a router's 1-4 LAN port, when I connect it via "WAN" port (which I believe is the proper one) it's not visible from the XP machine If you have similar experience with configuring a network like this I would really appreciate your help. I cannot use the Wi-Fi router with the ISP cable itself.

  I have an HP Compaq TC4400 and I recently was able to make most of the Tablet PC functions work in Ubuntu 9.10. (The step-by-step guide can be found in my blog.) Unfortunately I have yet to make the jog dial work. This would be particularly useful for scrolling up and down websites and documents when the TC4400 is in slate mode (with no access to the keyboard). I would be much obliged if anybody could tell me: How to find out the input button/key assignment that Ubuntu 9.10 has for jog-up and jog-down; How to assign jog-up to scroll up (D-pad key UP, or PAGE UP) and jog-down to scroll down (D-Pad key DOWN, or PAGE DOWN). I am using xbindkeys to assign different shortcuts to the quick launch buttons, perhaps I could use the same program for the jog dial? I would have done that, except I do not know how to find the proper button/key assignment for xbindkeys to use. Thanks in advance!

  Hello I have just set up a DNS server for my domain example.org with 2 name servers ns1.example.org and ns2.example.org. I have attempted to set up a glue record for ns1 and ns2 at my registrar. It seems to work for now when I do a dig example.org but when I do a whois example.org it lists ns1.example.org and ns2.example.org but not their IP address which should be set up as a glue record. So I am wondering how do I check for the existence of a glue record? Do I do it with whois? I have seen .com and .net whois records that have both the domain name as well as the IP address for the name servers, is .org different? What's the proper way to test this? Thanks.

  I have installed VirtualBox 3.1.2 (latest) on my Windows 7 (x64). In the VirtualBox I've installed Windows 7 (x64). I have 4 GB RAM installed. The guest has been assigned a 1536 MB RAM. Sometimes the CPU usage on the host goes 100%. It happens everytime, in a few minutes, after starting the guest. Then it stops responding. Then I have to "power off the machine" from the menu without doing a proper shutdown. It happens with Windows XP as guest too (even when the RAM amount assigned to it was the same). What is the problem?

  i have the following - common - problem, on one end of the cable, there are RJ45 males T586 A which are connected to a 8-port switcher, on the other end, there supposed to be RJ45 females _T586 A which in turn will allow another RJ45 male to be connected. the commonly used color scheme was followed on males (having the head down) blue white blue orange white green green white orange brown white brown the problem i believe is located on female end of cable, which i try multiple time to follow the numbers designated by the module, which is the list above in reverse, and as listed resulting in no signal transmission. tried the T586B (both ends) for device to device once, but no results. Which is the proper way of handling this wiring? There were also additional RJ45 females with the numbers 6-5-4-3, but 1 to 8 isn't supposed to be used for this?

This is such a great feature, but I don't always have access to a Mac. My question is how can I connect to this drive via Windows XP? Please note, that the shared drive is a Drobo FS and formatted to handle both Windows and Mac OS. I've tried mapping a network drive via My Computer - Tools - Map Network Drive and entering: \\test.dyndns.org:1111\Drobo-Name I've also tried Start - Run and entering the same, both with and without the port #.

• Installed Windows 8 Upgrade AFTER Formatting HD - any way to activate?

  I had an XP system - formatted the HD then ran Windows 8 Upgrade install. Install was fine. It cannot activate and gives me the 'this is an upgrade' error. Is there ANY way to fix this (MS Support call or something?) before I scrap the entire Windows 8 install, Reinstall XP, then upgrade to Windows 8 the proper way? I hate to waste the day's worth of config-the-new-os time if not absolutely necessary. Error was the 0XC004F061 from Windows 8.
