• Redirecting subsite on same domain to other IIS using HTTPS

  I've seen many similar questions (and answers) on this subject, but none seem to be on exactly the same situation I am facing. Which is weird since I don't think it is that special, so forgive me if I haven't searched enough. Anyway. I have two websites which are on two IIS7, one facing WAN and one in the LAN. The WAN facing is already HTTPS-only. I want to add the second website, but on the same HTTPS domain and SSL certificate, so that it becomes a subsite like: https://www.domain.com/subsite How can I do a redirect or rewrite on the first IIS to the second one to make this work? I don't think there is a standard IIS feature that can do this. ISA server is not an option currently. But maybe another extension to IIS exists? Done this numerous times on Apache, and am about to ditch IIS for Apache.

• How do I keep my Mac from constantly going to sleep?

  The system is a PowerPC Mac Mini running MacOS Tiger 10.4.11. When I login (I'm the admin), everything seems fine - until about 10-15 minutes later. Then the system goes into sleep mode. Each time I try to wake the system up - I can barely log in before it goes to sleep again. Sometimes I don't have enough time to enter my password (from the screen saver). If I shut down and restart, then I have that 10-15 mins again - until it again goes to sleep. I checked the settings in the Displays and Energy System Prefs. I looked at Accounts and at Screen Saver System Prefs; no times seemed to be present. I've already reset the PROM and other things (as part of an earlier problem shooting session). If I don't log in at the desktop, things seem to be fine. Nothing in .profile, /etc/profile, or /etc/bashrc seems to stand out. Right now, the system is hardly usable; can someone help?   Hello, I have an ip like username.dyndns.org, this is the external IP of my router. On my lan, I have several machine (m1, m2, ...) , each running a dedicated web server. Is it possible to reach each machine from the outside with something like: http://m1.username.dyndns.org http://m2.username.dyndns.org ? Do you know what needs to be configured in my router for NAT ? • Sonicwall - dual WAN ports - switch from one to another

  Hi, Folks! I'm using a SonicWall NSA 240 which has two WAN ports (T1 and Comcast) and the LAN port has a cable which connects to a switch. From the switch, several cables connect to other switches. The SonicWall doesn't have DHCP enabled; one of our domain controllers running Windows Server 2003 also functions as a DHCP server. Is there a way for a user in our network to change connection from T1 to Comcast as their ISP or vice versa? In other words, if a user is connected via the T1, can he/she somehow connect via Comcast instead? Thanks, in advance, for your help! Sincerely, Charles

• VPN using Zywall

  I've played around with a certificate based VPN (normally I don't do hardware) we've manged to setup the connection and the tunnel between the routers is working correctly. We now need the last step. There's no connection to the computers on the other end. What could we have forgotten? (we're testing with two standard configured Win7 machines) EDIT: Just to clarify the tunnel is working I can ping the router on the other end. I can't access the computers on the other side of that router and vice versa. (It's also possible to access the remotemangement console of the remote router on the LAN IP)

• TightVNC (or any VNC) viewer windows scaling

  Hi, I am currently using TightVNC to connect to multiple remote hosts in LAN. I start 16 VNC viewers, set Scaling by: Auto (in connection options display), and then select all viewer windows and use Tile Horizontally, which covers my entire screen with VNC viewers. It all works sort of nice, except that desktop interaction is really slow when there are more then 4 VNC viewers. My question is, does VNC client (not just TightVNC, but any compatible client) support some kind of smart scaling option, so that client tells server something along the lines of: "Okay, I'm displaying your entire screen in a window size 300x225 px, so can you please start sending encoded images on that resolution?", at which point interactiveness of open connections dramatically increase, and when I decide to go full screen on some connection, client and server re-negotiate and server starts sending full resolution images again? I mean, in lan usar A's maximum donload file size is 300 MB , and user B's maximum download file size in 200 MB. I want to block downloading when user try to download more than 300 MB file.User should not allow to download 300MB file at a time. Or how to set quota for maximum download per day, is there possible to do it ? How can i do this ?

  Hi all, I'm trying to deploy a Snort box in my LAN. I have a Linksys SRW248G4 and trying to configure Port mirroring so that Snort can listen everything on the network in promiscuous mode. So in ADMIN / Port Mirroring, I have 3 things: Source Port (e1,...e48, g1...g4) Type (Rx, Tx, Both) Target (e1...e48, g1...g4) Last time I played with it, I killed all traffic on the switch, I had to reboot it several times... so now I'm asking question before: Do I need to configure each Source Port (from 1 to 48) to forward to the single promiscuous port ? 48 rules !? • Why not all users can log in to a network computer by using <network computer name>/<user name> form

  There is a file server in my office that is not connected to my office LAN. In this server there are folders that are shared. This server is connected to a switch and a wireless router. Everyone who wants to access this server uses wireless network connection. They log in to this server by providing user name and password registered to the server. Some people can log in to my office file server by providing user name in (the server name)/(user name) format, while other must use (the server IP address)/(user name) format. Why is it like this? I need everyone can access the file server by providing user name in (the server name)/(user name) format. I have tried to change the %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file, as some suggested, but it won't work. Any other suggestion?

  hi all I have 3 PC's at home (with Win XP, Win 7 & Win 7) and a router. I am always connected to the internet through the router (PPoE connection). My problem is that sometimes when I want to search or open a page, my browser tells me that the server cannot be reached, as if I don't have a connection to the internet. Other times it logs me out from messenger, but browsing still works. FTP download/upload also works. If i disable and enable the LAN then all works fine. Anyone got any idea besides re-installing OS? thanks

• solaris + dladm + what is unknown state and how to bring it to up?

  I installed Solaris 10 on my netra machine from dladm show-dev I can see which interface are down or up all interfaces are connected to the Cisco switch , and all leds are light's on all LAN cards but I not understand why all interfaces except e1000g0 are in unknown ? • Strange focus bug in Firefox (chrome vs content)

  Here is a strange bug I'm experiencing in Firefox: I can only use either the chrome, or the content, not both at the same time! For example, I can click on tabs and the toolbar icons, focus the search bar and write in it as well as the address bar, but if I try to click on anything in the content (eg a link or a textfield to write something), then nothing happens. The mouse pointer doesn't change either, it just stays a pointer when I hover over things, and the links I hover don't react either. But if I alt-tab to another program (or click on it in the taskbar), then back to Firefox, then I can use the area that I click on. So if I click somewhere on the webpage to get focus back to Firefox, then I can click on links and write things (like this text), but I cannot click on tabs or refresh or anything else in the chrome. I can't even click on the minimize, restore and close icons! To get focus back on the chrome I have to alt-tab to another program, and then click on the chrome to get back to Firefox to be able to use the chrome again. I've tried closing and starting it again, but the bug is still there. I have experienced this before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it. This bug seems to occur sometimes when I wake up the computer from standby, but I leave by computer in standby all the time, so that is not the only factor.

• Networking not working in Windows 7 - "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services"

  I have a homebuilt computer with a GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard with a Realtek RTL8111E LAN chip. Ethernet was working fine in Windows 7 until I reinstalled this OS, but now it's stopped, while still working in other OSes. I've tried reinstalling drivers from both the Gigabyte and Realtek sites to no avail; I've also plugged in and installed an Asus USB-N13 wifi dongle and this doesn't work oddly. How can I diagnose and fix this issue? In 'Network and Sharing Center' says "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process" under the heading 'Unknown'. Following the advice at http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/130159-dependency-service-group-failed-start.html#post1122627 I've gone to 'Control Panel= Admin Tools= Services' and ensured the services listed at that URL are started (one - IIRC 'Come+ Event System' refused to start as user 'Local services' so I've had to set it to log on with the 'Local system account'... I suspect this may be part of the problem).

• Taskbar Network "Repair" menu option gone in Windows 7

  I used to LOVE that feature in Windows XP! Just right-clicked on the WiFi icon on the Taskbar (lower right-hand corner), then Repair. It doesn't take that long, and it usually helped me since I constantly go back and forth between LAN at work, VPN on WiFi from work and home, and also VPN to my own personal server. Even if you didn't need to refresh, doing so never hurts! Unfortunately, the feature seems to be removed from Win7 :( Now you can check for problems, but it only does the refresh if it thinks it needs too, and the whole process tasks so darn long! Is there a way to Repair my WiFi connection quickly and easily on Win7?

• Forcing Remote machine to serve RDP (or similar) session

  Due to a Dell/Nvidia design flaw in the Dell Inspiron 1420 series, my laptop no longer shows a display. I am looking for a solution to view it remotely. I have used it via RDP in the past (not for a year though) however for what ever reason I can no longer RDP, it could have been disabled some how. However, I'm on the same LAN, I can ping it, and know its login creditials. Is there a way I can hack into it remotely to force it to serve a RDP session or an alternative? Please bear in mind my only view I could have to its interface is via a remote session. Its running Windows 7 Pro

  Today I found out that the job which would have been a promotion for me went to an outside candidate. The position is for a systems admin on our LAN team. I have been working on the helpdesk here for almost two years with another two years experience working it prior. While we are the first tier support we also work in AD, monitor and update certain servers and set up and deploy Windows/Mac images for those we support. What I am looking for here is what can I do to better myself to inside/outside places to move up this ladder? I take what I can from my job - working on projects that I can learn from - but what projects should I be volunteering for? What can I do for myself outside to make me a more viable candidate for a systems admin?

• Setting up routing for MS DirectAccess to a VMWare EsXi Host

  I'm trying to set up DirectAccess on a virtual machine so I can demonstrate it's value and then if need be add a physical machine to host it. I'm hitting a problem because the Direct Access machine (DA01) needs to have 2 public addresses actually configured on the external adapter but there is a Zyxel Zywall USG300 between the VMware ESXi host and the outside world. I've summarised my setup in this diagram If I ping from the LAN to 212.x.y.89 I get a response but if I ping from the VM I get destination host unreachable. I used "route add 212.x.y.89 192.c.d.1" and get request timed out. At that point I see outbound traffic allowed on the Zyxel firewall but nothing coming back. I'm past my understanding of routing and VMWare so am not sure how to tie down where my problem lies (or even if this setup is possible). So any help massively appreciated. Paul

  How does Windows Remote Desktop connection work? An IP address is used to connect to the computer but....how can that IP be accessed from anywhere? If, for example, the IP address is 128.10.10.10, there MUST be another 128.10.10.10 somewhere else in the world. How does Remote Desktop know which one to connect to? Thanks so much EDIT: Thank you! Answers cleared this up quite a bit. But if my remote desktop connection suddenly stopped working and I didn't change anything, how do I even start to diagnose what may be the problem? • Mixed network, Linux-to-Linux hostname resolution issues

  At work we have an WinSBS domain at the heart of our network, which is all Windows PCs. The domain controller is acting as a DNS for these computers. I have recently added some personal use Linux machines to the network, without joining them to the domain. I have set up Samba with "wins server" pointing to the domain controller, which lets the Windows boxes resolve the Linux hostnames just fine. I also have resolvconf set up with the domain controller as a nameserver and the local domain as a searched domain, which lets the Linux boxes resolve the Windows hostnames just fine. However, the Linux boxes will not resolve other Linux hostnames at all. Given that I don't have control over the DNS server (I am not the network admin) and that at least one of the Linux boxes is not an always-on machine and is likely to change its LAN IP frequently (via DHCP), what service am I missing to make their hostnames visible to each other?

• Remote Desktop not following display settings

  I have my RDP client set up to use highest settings for connecting to another PC on my LAN, which has display settings 1280x1024x32bit. RDP is specifically set to use 32bit depth, but when I connect it drops to 16bit. The PC I connect to is (amongst other things) used to do some 3D graphics. I don't expect great performance, just to check it works... but it doesn't over RDP, the 3D app doesn't think the hardware is the same. Does RDP's integration with Windows mean it is providing some virtualised rendering system? Should I use something less 'clever' like VNC, to literally screen-grab the contents of the screen without altering the settings?

• Bridging VirtualBox over OpenVPN TAP adapter on Windows

  I'm trying to configure a virtual machine (VirtualBox guest running Backtrack 4) with a bridged adapter over a VPN connection. The VPN is is hosted by the cybersecurity club at my university, and connects to a sandboxed LAN designed for penetration testing against various servers that the club has built. My host (Windows 7 Ultimate) connects to the VPN fine and is assigned an IP through DHCP, but for some reason the VM can't do the same thing, and I'm not sure why. It's like OpenVPN is filtering out packets from the MAC address it doesn't recognize. I want the virtual machine to bridge over the VPN connection, because our IT office has very strict policies about what you can and can't do on the network. I want to be able to run active attacks (ARP spoofing, nmap, Nessus scans) in the sandbox environment without risking the traffic accidentally going over the university network and getting my internet access revoked. Bridging over the VPN connection and running all attacks from inside the VM would solve that problem. Any idea why the host can use this interface, but the VM can't?

• How to automatically restart RRAS service after OpenVPN

  I have OpenVPN set up on a Windows Server 2003 box using a routed configuration. This allows users to connect and access the work LAN subnet. There are remote hosts/services however that are only accessible when used via the work network. To enable access these, I push routes out to the clients to make sure traffic to these destinations goes across the VPN, and NAT the traffic using RRAS. This all works, except: if I restart the OpenVPN service, network traffic stops working until I restart the RRAS service as well. Is there a good way for me to make the RRAS service start/restart after OpenVPN? Are service dependencies the way to go? Obviously I could write a batch file to do this, but I'd like to make the process as bullet-proof and obvious as I can so it doesn't cause problems for other admins.

• wi-fi connection drops periodically for a few seconds

  I've read the similar question on wireless connections dropping, but no answer seems to apply to my case I have configured the wi-fi lan of my router to broadcast sid and use WPA-PSK. Every few minutes my wi-fi connection drops for a few seconds and then restores. When I use two computers and run a ping -n 50000 on both computers, I see that the connection drops at different times but with almost the same rate. the router is a zyxel, one pc runs windws vista and uses a USB wi-fi device from Belkin: F6D4050 the other one runs windows 7 is a Dell PC with an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN there are no other wi-fi lans around
