• How to debug/break in codedom compiled code

  I have an application which loads up c# source files dynamically and runs them as plugins. When I am running the main application in debug mode, is it possible to debug into the dynamic assembly? Obviously setting breakpoints is problematic, since the source is not part of the original project, but should I be able to step into, or break on exceptions for the code? Is there a way to get codedom to generate PDBs for this or something? Here is the code I am using for dynamic compliation. • set a default saving data in a selection box in HABTM model

  here is my problem which in my system. my system allow user to add event, which include date, time, places. In the other hand, user are allow to choose the "Event sharing to" some of other user. So i successful to created and share to other user, when the user login which are being choose to share with the event, he is able to view for that particular event. But the problem is, when user add the event, he must choose for his own name also in the select box. If not he will be unable to read the event that he had created. • ODBC and NLS_LANG

  Let's say that I've created two different program executables, e.g. in C++. For some reason, the two programs internals representation of text are different from each other. Let's say the first program is using text representation A and the other text representation B. It could be a specific 8-bit ANSI codepage, Unicode/UTF-8 or Unicode/UTF-16 or whatever. Now each program want to communicate text (add/retrieve data) to/from the same database table on a (database) server. Each program communicates with the database through ODBC. So the programs do not know what database system they they are communicating with. In this specific case through the database is actually a Oracle RDMS database and the database server administrator has setup the database to use UTF-8. On the system on which the programs are running an appropriate ODBC driver is available, so that the programs can connect through ODBC. Each program will treat and convert from the ODBC data type SQL_C_CHAR to its internal text representation appropriately. I assume that the programs cannot do no other than to assume a specific encoding returned for SQL_C_CHAR text. If not the programs has to be told which encoding that is. For Oracle, I know that the NLS_LANG environment variable can be used on the client. I assume it affects the ODBC driver (related to SQL_C_CHAR) to convert from a specific encoding (as given by NLS_LANG) to the internal encoding of the database (in this example UTF-8) and vice-versa. If the machine running my programs are having a NLS_LANG this setting will affect the byte sequences returned for SQL_C_CHAR so my programs cannot suddenly assume a specific encoding for the text returned via SQL_C_CHAR. Is it possible to setup the ODBC connection (preferably programmatically at runtime), so that it takes care of text conversions appropriately for the two programs, i.e. from/to representation to/from UTF-8 and from/to representation B to/from UTF-8? Regards, /Michael PS. As the programs are connecting through ODBC I don't think it would be nice that they should now anything about NLS_LANG as this is a Orcacle specific environment variable.

• Lightweight alternative to Manual/AutoResetEvent in C#

  Hi, I have written what I hope is a lightweight alternative to using the ManualResetEvent and AutoResetEvent classes in C#/.NET. The reasoning behind this was to have Event like functionality without the weight of using a kernel locking object. Although the code seems to work well in both testing and production, getting this kind of thing right for all possibilities can be a fraught undertaking and I would humbly request any constructive comments and or criticism from the StackOverflow crowd on this. Hopefully (after review) this will be useful to others. Usage should be similar to the Manual/AutoResetEvent classes with Notify() used for Set(). • How can I validate/secure/authenticate a JavaScript-based POST request?

  A product I'm helping to develop will basically work like this: A Web publisher creates a new page on their site that includes a <script> from our server. When a visitor reaches that new page, that <script> gathers the text content of the page and sends it to our server via a POST request (cross-domain, using a <form> inside of an <iframe>). Our server processes the text content and returns a response (via JSONP) that includes an HTML fragment listing links to related content around the Web. This response is cached and served to subsequent visitors until we receive another POST request with text content from the same URL, at which point we regenerate a "fresh" response. These POSTs only happen when our cached TTL expires, at which point the server signifies that and prompts the <script> on the page to gather and POST the text content again. The problem is that this system seems inherently insecure. In theory, anyone could spoof the HTTP POST request (including the referer header, so we couldn't just check for that) that sends a page's content to our server. This could include any text content, which we would then use to generate the related content links for that page. The primary difficulty in making this secure is that our JavaScript is publicly visible. We can't use any kind of private key or other cryptic identifier or pattern because that won't be secret. Ideally, we need a method that somehow verifies that a POST request corresponding to a particular Web page is authentic. We can't just scrape the Web page and compare the content with what's been POSTed, since the purpose of having JavaScript submit the content is that it may be behind a login system. Any ideas? I hope I've explained the problem well enough. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

• DataReader-DataSet Hybrid solution

  My solution architects and I have exhausted both pure Dataset and Datareader solutions. Basically we have a Microsoft.NET 2.0 windows service application that pulls data based on a query and processes additional tasks per record; almost a poor mans workflow system. The recordsets are broader (in terms of the columns) and deeper (in terms of number of records). We observed that DataSet performs much better in terms of performance but runs into contraints as # of records increase say 100K+ we start seeing System.OutOfMemoryException on a 4G machine with processModel configured to run at memoryLimit set to 85. Since this is a multi-threaded app, there could be multiple threads processing different queries and building different DataSets, so we run into the exception sooner in that case DataReader on the other hand works but is a lot slower and hits other contraints; if there is some sort of disconnect it has to start over again or leaves open connections on the DB side and worst case takes down the service completely etc. So, we decided the best option would be some sort of hybrid solution. I'm open to guidance and suggestions. Are there any hybrid solutions available? Any other suggestions

• Using layout view in Express with Consolidate and Mustache

  I just started going through Node using Express and finally got Consolidate JS working properly to use Mustache as the templating view system per the instructions on the Consolidate JS Github page. Mustache is loading properly, but I'm now wondering how to include the layout file along in the rendering of the template. The default Jade system loads the content of the .render method inside of the layout.jade file. I'm just wondering how to do the same, but with Mustache. Any help is greatly appreciated!   Right, this is from an older exam which i'm using to prepare my own exam in january. Fairly sure it's O(n²), unless someone thinks otherwise? Can you reduce the time complexity, and if so, how? Well, you can.   I'm attempting to create a Portable Class Library in Visual Studio 2012 to be used for a Windows 8 Store app and a Windows Phone 8 app. I'm getting the following error: 'await' requires that the type 'Windows.Foundation.IAsyncOperation' have a suitable GetAwaiter method. At this line of code: StorageFolder guidesInstallFolder = await Package.Current.InstalledLocation.GetFolderAsync(guidesFolder); My Portable Class Library is targeted at .NET Framework 4.5, Windows Phone 8 and .NET for Windows Store apps. I don't get this error for this line of code in a pure Windows Phone 8 project, and I don't get it in a Windows Store app either so I don't understand why it won't work in my PCL. The GetAwaiter is an extension method in the class WindowsRuntimeSystemExtensions which is in System.Runtime.WindowsRuntime.dll. Using the Object Browser I can see this dll is available in the .NET for Windows Store apps component set and in the Windows Phone 8 component set but not in the .NET Portable Subset. I just don't understand why it wouldn't be in the Portable Subset if it's available in both my targeted platforms.

  This is a basic question. I have the basic SL4/RIA project set up and I want to create a new method in the domain service and return some data from it. I am unsure the proper easiest way to do this.. Should I wrap it up in a ToList()? • XCode can't find headers in /usr/include

  Hi all, I'm trying to use standard system header files in my C++ XCode project: #include <openssl/bio.h> #include <openssl/ssl.h> #include <openssl/err.h> The build fails and it complains: "Openssl/bio.h: No such file or directory" I added /usr/include to the "Header Search Paths" in Project settings, but that doesn't fix it. I COULD fix it by adding the whole path like: #include </usr/include/openssl/bio.h> -- but the project is full of similar includes and I don't want to change all of them this way. Also, I feel I shouldn't have to do this. Another way to fix it would be as another thread mentioned, which is to add /usr/include to User Header Search Paths. But if I do that, then I'd have to change all the angle brackets < to quotes "", which again seems like a hack. I mean, these are standard system header files so I feel it should be something simple, not requiring these kinds of hacks. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Do I need Response.End() in ASP.Net 2.0

  Hi, I am just starting with ASP.Net. I copied a ex-co-worker's code (from .Net 1.1 era) and it has a Response.End(); in case of an error. There is also a: catch (Exception ex) { Response.Write(ex.Message); Response.End(); } at the end of Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) which always appends "Thread was aborted." or something like that at the end. I suspect that this worked differently before, or the error conditions were not tested very well. Anyhow, I was able to stop using Response.End(); in case when I do not like the GET parameters, and use return; instead. It seemed to do the right think in a simple case. Is this Ok in general? There are some problems with the code I copied, but I do not want to do a rewrite; I just want to get it running first and find wrinkles later. The Response.End(); caused a mental block for me, however, so I want to figure it out. I want to keep the catch all clause just in case, at least for now. I could also end the method with: catch (System.Threading.ThreadAbortException) { Response.End(); } catch (Exception ex) { Response.Write(ex.Message); Response.End(); } but that just seems extremely stupid, once you think about all of the exceptions being generated. Please give me a few words of wisdom. Feel free to ask if something is not clear. Thanks! P.S. Ex-coworker was not fired and is a good coder - one more reason to reuse his example.

  I am using EF 4.0 and I need to implement query with one inner join and with N outer joins I started to implement this using different approaches but get into trouble at some point.
