• View returned file from Webservice method

  I already have a method in my webservice that returns a byte[] containing only the bytes of the file downloading. The invocation is something like: http://www.mysite.com/myWebservice.asmx with: string fileId = "123"; bytes[] fileContent = myWebservice.Download(fileId); What I wanted to do is be able to invoke this method or other (to be made) on a aspx webpage and be able to open a browser window containing the real content of the file. i.e. Most files are TXT and PDF. (Assuming the client has the PDF plugin that alows him\her to view PDF's on the browser.)

  According to the documentation the Android OS can kill the activity at the rear of the backstack. So, say for example I have an app and open the Main Activity (let's call it Activity A). In this public activity class I declare and initialize a public static variable (let's call it "foo"). In Activity A's onCreate() method I then change the value of "foo." From Activity A the user starts another activity within my app called Activity B. Variable "foo" is used in Activity B. Activity B is then paused after the user navigates to some other activities in other apps. Eventually, after a memory shortage occurs, Activity A then Activity B can be killed. After the user navigates back to my app it restarts (actually "recreates") activity B. What happens: 1) Will variable "foo" at this point have the value that was set to it when Activity A's onCreate() method ran? 2) Variable "foo" does not exist? 3) Variable "foo" exists and but is now the initialized value and not the value set in Activity A's onCreate() method?

  Hi guys, Ive got an annoying problem, I cant append any text to the text file. Every time I open it for writing, I overwrite the data. I tried to move the file pointer to the end of the file, but no result (no writing to the file at all). • Problem saving Text file in database using Hibernate

  I'm having a problem saving large text files to MySQL database. If the text file size is around 5KB it successfully saves. If file is 148KB then I get this error from Hibernate: org.hibernate.exception.DataException: Could not execute JDBC batch update These is the SQL shows by Hibernate: Hibernate: insert into file_table (ID,FILE) values (?, ?) And in my hibernate file I'm using java.sql.Blob to store the file. Anyone knows why it fails to save a file size of 148KB but if I open that same file, cut it down to around 5KB, it will successfully save it? I thought the default limit was I think 2GB? This is weird. Thanks.

  How do I make extra initializations on a modal dialog before calling DoModal(); ? The whole application is created using VS wizards. I have a main Dialog (the one that is created automatically when I select new MFC Application in Visual Studio 2008 Professional). When I click a button on this dialog I want to open another dialog and set a CString value into a CEdit control. my code: ... void MainDlg::OnClickedButtonX(){ SecondDialogClass Dlg2; Dlg2.asocVar2Cedit.SetWindowTextW(L"my text"); Dlg2.DoModal(); } //asocVar2Cedit is the associeted control variable to the //CEdit control on the second Dialog (Right Click > Add Variable.. in VSC++) ... this code generates at runtime a "Debug Assertion" error in winocc... • PHP: Iterate through folders and display HTML contents

  Hi, I’m currently trying to develop a method to get a overview of all my different web templates I’ve created and (legally) downloaded over the years. I thought about a displaying them like Wordpress is previewing it’s templates view a small preview windows, displaying the concrete file with styles and everything. How to divide them into rows and columns and create AJAX modal window open on preview and pagination and so on I believe I can manage, but it is the concept itself about iterate over several folders then find all index.htm / index.html pages and displaying them. I’ve not worked very much with directories in PHP and the only references and code stumps I’ve found so far is just to list all the files in a certain directory like, what it contains. I would be really grateful if someone knew about a script, a function, snippet or just could get me a nudge in the right direction to create such a (probably simple) preview function. So I want to find a way to share codes in a sort of Excel add-in, like the .xla file. But when I tried to save the Excel file containing shared codes as .xla file, I got some problems: The file cannot be edit anymore after I save it in the default add-in folder If I move the .xls file to a folder other than the add-in folder, and open it directly - I cannot use its classes - which creates problems for sharing the codes Any ideas to create add-ins in a flexible and powerful way please?   I am using jsdom with nodeJS. I load in a large HTML document, and am using jQuery to navigate the DOM. I have a case where I have an element, and I need to access the function body of an event listener (onclick). The event listener was added in the source HTML: <a href="#" onclick="javascript:window.open('http://<rest-of-url>'); return false;"></a> The onclick attribute of the DOM element is undefined. btw: what I really want to do is get the URL (please note that <rest-of-url> is not what is in the source, a real URL spec is there) that is specified in the source.

  I am trying to use c# in .net to run dos commands to ftp a a file. Technically, it calls a BAT file which calls a CMD file which executes the DOS code. It was up to the CMD file. The CMD fiel will work if I hardcode the path, but I need to dynamically specify the path of the file.   I am running the demo application that is supplied with the facebook-ios-sdk. The application starts in the emulator, with a LogIn button. I click the button which then launches safari to grant access to the application. I log in with my fb creds and allow the application. I am the administrator for the application and I have verified I put in the right app key. After I allow access, it says "Safari cannot open the page because the address in invalid"...this is the url it's trying to go to: http://www.facebook.com/connect/uiserver.php... So am I missing something because the breakpoint for (void)fbDidLogin never gets hit...

• Building a code search engine for java code in git repositories

  I'm trying to build a Java code search engine. Apart from just searching for keywords, I would also like cross-referencing between classes to work. It should work the way eclipse's referencing works - click on anything to open the definition. Bonus would be if something like search-all-usages-of-foo works. I'm thinking of using Apache Solr to index the files and build the basic search. But I'm not sure how I'd do the crossreferencing part since Solr doesn't understand Java code. Any suggestions on what I could use here? EDIT: I mainly want to index a lot of java git repositories.

• How communicate with pty via minicom or screen?

  I am trying to provide an AT/Modem-like interface around some hardware. Follwing this post I have the server setting up a pty using openpty(). Now I can communicate with the server as expected with a client app that open the slave and communicates via read() and write() calls. However I would also like to be able to use either the screen command or minicom to issue commands by hand to the slave. However the server never seems to receive any data when trying to do this. Is there something significant I am missing with this approach?

• Getting Assert to work in Visual C++ Unit Tests?

  I'm using Visual Studio 2008's built in testing framework in my Visual C++ project. I'm adding a new Test Project, then a new Unit Test. However, I can't use any of the functions provided by Assert. Assert shows up in the Intellisense, but I can't do anything with it. I've done unit tests fine in Visual C#. Am I forgetting to do anything? EDIT: There isn't much code because everything I'm doing is auto-generated by Visual Studio 2008. Here are the steps I'm doing: File - New Project - Visual C++ - General - Empty Project Right click solution in Solution Explorer - Add - New Project... Visual C++ - Test - Test Project Open UnitTest1.cpp (auto-generated) Go to TestMethod1() From here, when I try to use the Assert class (like Assert.AreEqual), I can't do it. If I do the same in a Visual C# project, it works fine.

• Dynamic creation of VS Project

  I have a project where I create WiX (Windows Installer for XML) files, when they are not already present. It is working perfectly. Now I want to expand it to add more functionality. I was wondering if there is a way to create a Visual Studio project programmatically? This project is run as part of our nightly build process, and when a new wix file is needed it is created, but I want to have everything in place when the build is finished so if necessary you can just open the project in Visual Studio and start editing. Am I dreaming outside the realm of possibility or no? Any nudge in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

• .classpath and .project - check into version control or not?

  I'm running an open source java project that consists of multiple modules in a tree of dependencies. All those modules are subdirectories in a subversion repository. For newcomers to our project, it's a lot of work to set all that up manually in eclipse. Not all our developers use eclipse. Nevertheless, we're considering to just check in the .classpath and .project files to help newcomers to get started. Is this a good idea? Or would that lead to constant conflicts in those files? Is there an alternative way to make the project easy to set up on eclipse?

• Drupal - Use lightbox with Views (Rel attribute) - in output link

  In Drupal I have two image fields, one to act as a thumbnail and the other the image that will open when the thumbnail is clicked. The only way I could find to link the two was to use the option for "Output this field as a link" and link to the image field. This works, so when I click the thumbnail it opens the larger image however I would like to use lightbox2 for this task but in the "Output this field as a link" options there is no way to set the "rel" attribute. Is there a way to either set the rel attribute or invoke the lightbox by setting a class?

• Firefox HTML5 video playback inconsistancy

  Hey all, I've got an HTML5 video on a page. When tested locally, Chrome, Safari, and Opera work beautifully. Firefox plays it, but doesn't loop as efficiently as the others. The real problem is when it's tested off a server. Firefox doesn't play the video, but recognizes there is one there. I was wondering if all that open ended three-different-ways syntax can be swung in Firefox's favor. Thanks! • PhysX: Joint friction/"stiff" joints

  I'm working with physx (trying to add ik to ragdoll) at the moment. For some reason, all ragdoll joints are frictionless, and as a result, ragdoll tend to "wobble", especially when it is hung in the air and is connected to several moving kinematic actors. I would like to add friction to the joints and make them "stiff". Imagine a door (with extremely rusty hinge) that needs to be kicked several times to be open - i.e. it rotates around the hinge, but not much, quickly stops, and large force is required to make it rotate. Or think about art manikins (see google images for pictures) - their limbs move around, but they do not swing around freely. Unfortunately, I can't find anything related to joint friction in physx. I've checked documentation, google, and headers, and couldn't find anything useful. So, how do I implement stiff joints/joint friction with physx? (I think) I've seen physx games without that problem, so apparently there should be some way to do that.

• Non-Profit Volunteer Opportunities

  I have seen questions on SO regarding volunteering for potential employers or volunteering to help out on open source projects. But what about putting your IT skills to use at traditional non-profit organizations as a volunteer? I would like to volunteer some time to a worthwhile cause in 2010, but am having a hard time finding organizations who may need IT help. Does anyone do this? Are there any websites out there to help one find organizations looking for such help? I would think some must have a need for free software development type work? I saw a bit on 'WeVolunteer' that publishes a database of volunteer opportunities (http://www.wetv.com/volunteer.html), but it seems to be more 'typical' volunteer opportunities (soup kitchens, walk-a-thons, etc).
