    Hi, i was just asked today, but i couldn't answer precisely so that's why i'm asking here :-) There is any book about Firewall design and implementations (Unix environment and C)? For sure, i could recommend TCP/IP books, and what i did, but there is some design decisions, that are not related with TCP/IP. For sure, i said about the netfilter/iptables (RTFSC) but as well we cannot assume that the netfilter/iptables is the best approach since we don't have too many baselines (ok, we could compare it with PF, but again, read source code to understand design decisions is not always the best way). So if anybody knows a book about this theme, please shoot it!

  • Passing Global Variable value to Facebook - Gets NULL only

    hi all friends, I am making a game application in that I want to pass my score on wall of face book. I've completed all the things (the log in and message passing part) but when I passes the score via global variable, I am getting only null as a value and not the score that I want. Is there any way to pass data or string to Face book and write on a wall?   • A good F# codebase to learn from

    Hi all, I've been teaching myself F# for a while now. I've read Programming F# by Chris Smith (great book) and I've written a few small scripts for getting the job done here and there. But IMO the best way to learn a new programming language—and more importantly, the idioms that come with it—is to read a good open source codebase written in that language. Naturally, writing code in that language is crucial, but in the beginning, you're basically struggling with your own ignorance about how things should be done. You could perform certain tasks one way or the other, but it takes experience to realize the flaws and virtues of each. Even after you've gotten a firm grasp of how things work, reading the code of people who have an even firmer one helps a great deal. Most would agree that the most insightful parts of any learn-a-programming-language book are the code examples, and reading a well-written open source codebase is the next level of that. So are there any out there for F#?

    I have 30 categories in mysql. I have 450 subcategories which are related to the 30 categories in another table. Categories table id _ title _ Keywords 1 _ Animals _ animal, animals, pet, parrot 2 _ Books _ books, book, educational n _ xxx _ xxx Subcategories table id _ ref _ title _ keywords 1 _ 1 _ cats _ cats, persian cat, bengal cat 2 _ 1 _ dogs _ dogs, labrador, golder retriver 3 _ 2 _ Classic _ The davinci code, books, book, classical books I need to implement the filter to a textfield. If the users enters labrador in the textfield then show the categories or/and subcategories which contain 'labrador' in the keywords. In this case the "dogs" subcategory would appear! I know that this has been done using jquery. But is there anyway to implement this with angularJs? If you got a jsfiddle then it would be awesome! :) Thank you

  • SQL query to select distinct record with 2 or more repetition in another field

    So I have this table of book orders, it contains 2 columns, one is the order ID(primary key) and another is the ID of the book that the customer ordered. For example: | OrderID | BookID | | 0001 | B002 | | 0002 | B005 | | 0003 | B002 | | 0004 | B003 | | 0005 | B005 | | 0006 | B002 | | 0007 | B002 | What I want is to get the IDs of the books that got 2 or more purchases/orders, for example if I run the SQL query against the above data, I would get this as the result: | BookID | | B002 | | B005 | I don't know if this can be archived in SQL or I have to built a simpler statement and repetitive run the query against all the records in another language. I need some help and thanks for reading my question.

    Hello, I have been programming in C and C++ for a few years and now I'm taking a college course in it and our book had a function like this int foo(){ int x=0; int y=20; return x,y; //y is always returned } I have never seen such syntax. In fact, I never see the , operator used outside of parameter lists. If y is always returned though, then what is the point? Is there a case where a return statement would need to be created like this? (Also, I tagged C as well because it applies to both, though my book specifically is C++)

    Hi, I have the following piece of code from a book. There is this function loadPrefs where the NSString *userTimeZone is being released before the end of the function. Why? The string was not created with alloc and I assume that the stringForKey function returns an autoreleased NSString. Is this an error or am I missing something? Is it an error in the book? (I new into objective-C) In the documentation for stringForKey the only thing it mentions is: Special Considerations The returned string is immutable, even if the value you originally set was a mutable string.   • Hibernate - why use many-to-one to represent a one-to-one?

    I've seen people use many-to-one mappings to represent one-to-one relationships. I've also read this in a book by Gavin King and on articles. For example, if a customer can have exactly one shipping address, and a shipping address can belong to only one customer, the mapping is given as: <class name="Customer" table="CUSTOMERS"> ... <many-to-one name="shippingAddress" class="Address" column="SHIPPING_ADDRESS_ID" cascade="save-update" unique="true"/> ... </class> The book reasons as (quoting it): "You don't care what's on the target side of the association, so you can treat it like a to-one association without the many part." My question is, why use many-to-one and not one-to-one? What is it about a one-to-one that makes it a less desirable option to many-to-one? Thanks.

  • What is the pythonic way to add type information to an object's attributes?

    I'm building classes where I know the types of the attributes, but Python of course doesn't. While it's un-pythonic to want to tell it, supposing I do want to, is there an idiomatic way to do so? Why: I'm reading in serialised data (without type information) involving objects-nested-inside-objects. It's easy to put it into nested dictionaries, but I want it in objects of my class-types, to get the right behaviours as well as the data. For instance: suppose my class Book has an attribute isbn which I will fill with an ISBNumber object. My serialised data gives me the isbn as a string; I would like to be able to look at Book and say "That field should be filled by ISBNumber(theString)." Bonus glee for me if the solution can be applied to classes I get from someone else without editing their code.

    I have been playing around with an installation of SOLR that indexes some data from my database. I am able to index data and query it back but I was wondering about how field name queries work. For certain fields I am able to specify their name and the search text to have the results return as expected and for other fields, when I specify their name and search text, no results are returned. q=type:book //(this will work) q=type:book AND title:"The Title" //(no results returned) In this example, type is a required field and title is not. For the example where I search by title, I can see the document in the results of the first query having the given title so I know that a document exists that matches this search. Is making a field 'required' the only way to be able to search by field name? [edit] I'm using the default installation and the 'example' folder inside of solr, editing the xml files and using the interface available through start.jar to be able to run, index and query.

    Is there a way to localize a plist that contain hierarchical or grouped data? For instance, if the plist contains: Book 1 (dictionary) Key (string) Name (string) Description (localizable string) Book 2 (dictionary) Key (string) Name (string) Description (localizable string) (etcetera...) For the sake of the example, the Key and Name should not be translated (and preferably should not be duplicated in multiple localized property lists). Is there a mechanism for providing localizations for the localizable Description field without localizing the entire property list? The only other strategy that came to my mind is to store a lookup key in the description field and than use that to retrieve the localized text via NSLocalizedString(...) Thanks.

    I have three models (Book,Snippet,User) and I'd like to create a scope for where(:approved = true) I'm doing this so I can use the merit gem to define ranking based on count of approved. I'm thinking that writing this as a scope might be to complex but I don't know as I've just started leaning scopes. I've currently got this in my Book & Snippet Model: scope :approved, -> { where(approved: true) } I've playing around with this in my user model but I don't think it's correct: scope :approved, joins(:books && :snippets) Could anyone help start me off or give me some suggestions on what to read?

  • How can I allow only privledged users to download a pdf with php?

    Lets say I have some pdf files stored on my server and I only want to allow a person who's paid have access to download a particular pdf. So for an example, let's say I have a bunch of e-books. The only way a user would be able to download e-book A is if his account contains the right credentials for that particular book. What's the best way to accomplish this? Any ideas/advice on how to improve my idea are greatly appreciated! My current idea: A user places an order Upon success, a new folder would be created by their /account_num/order_id/ A copy of the particular file would be stored in this directory Have php generate an .htaccess that would only allow access from a url that contains a random hash embedded into it. The only way a user would be able to access this random hashed page is if they are signed in as the right user, and the hash matches up with the hash stored in the database, otherwise they are redirected to home page.

But the author of the book shows us a way, but it doesn't work correctly. So I'm definately going to brush up on that. I remember for a previous job interview, I was asked Java questions, like not super intricate, but detailed stuff. Now I'm looking for a book maybe that I can read through in a day (or two) and known all the crannies of C#, ASP.NET and JavaScript. Different books obviously I'll be honest, for the Java interview, I actually read The J2EE certification book, and it helped A LOT!

    I'm working on creating a date/time user control in WPF using C# 2008. My first user control. I'm also using Matthew MacDonald's book, "Pro WPF in C# 2008". In that book he strongly recommended creating a user control using the WPF Custom Control Library project template; so I followed his suggestion. I've finished writing the code which would go into what I think of as the code-behind file. Now I'm ready to write the XAML. The only problem is, I just discovered there is no corresponding .xaml file? So, I don't get why using a WPF Custom Control Library project is better, or prefered, when writing a user control?

I wanna get some data from oracle server like: 1-get all the function,package,procedure and etc for showing them or drop them & etc... 2-compile my *.sql files,get the result if they have problem & etc... becuz I was beginner in oracle first of all I for solve the second problem I try to connect to sqlPlus by RUN sqlplus and trace the output(I mean,I change the output stream of shell and trace what happend and handle the assigned message to customer. NOW THIS PART SUCCEED. just a little bit I have problem with get all result because the output is asynchronous.any way... [in this case I log in to oracle Server by send argument to the sqlplus by make a process in c#] after that I try to get all function,package or procedure name,but I have problem in speed!so I try to use oracle.DataAccess.dll to connect the database. now I m so confusing about: which way is correct way to build a program that work like Oracle Developer! I do not have any experience for like these program how work. If Your answer is I must use the second way follow this part plz: I search a little bit the Golden,PLedit (Benthic software),I have little bit problem how I must create the connection string?because I thinking about how I can find the host name or port number that oracle work on them?? am I need read the TNSNames.Ora file?   • How to set a predefined value in a form in Rails

    So I just got started in Rails, and I'm trying to create an Object (a book_loan in my case) with a Form. The thing is that I get to this form by clicking on a book, so I pass the book_id as a parameter, like localhost:3000/loans/new?id=1. Now I don't want the user to be able to set the book id field in the form, since I already know the id. So my question is how to set the value in the form. I have been trying things like: <% form_for(@loan) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> ... <%= @loan.book_id = params[:id] %> <%= f.submit 'Create' %> <% end %> without any success. Does anybody have a hint for me?

  • Are there any good materials or examples on creating a custom Designer in the Delphi IDE

    I am working on creating a custom form designer in the Delphi IDE. I'm trying to use the RegisterCustomModule, TBaseCustomModule, and ICustomModule functions, classes, and interfaces. My first question on this pointed me to the Delphi Developer's Handbook and the idea that I could even create a custom form designer. However, that book seems to be all Delphi 3 information and things have really changed since then. I'm not finding any material in the Delphi Help file, and searches have not returned very much. I did find the Accidental Programmer's page on the Open Tools, but that looks like it was last up dated in 1998? It does at least have the correct unit names and uses the new interfaces. I'm willing to track down and buy an older book if that is the best reference.

    I have a tabled view in a while loop, where a user can view information on books. For example, book ISBN, book name, read status... Basically, when the user sets their 'readstatus' to 'complete' I want that specific table row to become grey! The logic is very straight forward, however I can't get my IF statement to recognise this: $readstatus = $_GET['readstatus']; if ($readstatus == 'complete') { echo '<tr class="completed">'; } else if ($readstatus != 'complete') { echo '<tr class="reading">'; } I'm obviously doing something wrong here, but all I need is the CSS class of the table row to change if the value of 'readstatus' = 'complete', if not, then output the default CSS table row color ('reading') Should I be putting $result as the variable or something?     We have a large number of data in many categories with many properties, e.g. category 1: Book properties: BookID, BookName, BookType, BookAuthor, BookPrice category 2: Fruit properties: FruitID, FruitName, FruitShape, FruitColor, FruitPrice We have many categories like book and fruit. Obviously we can create many tables for them (MySQL e.g.), and each category a table. But this will have to create too many tables and we have to write many "adapters" to unify manipulating data. The difficulties are: 1) Every category has different properties and this results in a different data structure. 2) The properties of every categoriy may have to be changed at anytime. 3) Hard to manipulate data if each category a table (too many tables) How do you store such kind of data?

    If it's important to keep data access 'away' from business and presentation layers, what alternatives or approaches can I take so that my LINQ to SQL entities can stay in the data access layer? So far I seem to be simply duplicating the classes produced by sqlmetal, and passing those object around instead simply to keep the two layers appart. For example, I have a table in my DB called Books. If a user is creating a new book via the UI, the Book class generated by sqlmetal seems like a perfect fit although I'm tightly coupling my design by doing so.

    I am new to C# and trying to create my 1st app. I have 3 errors. The first two say that txtSalary and Salary do not exist. The 3rd says that it cannot convert method group 'ToString' to non-delegate type 'string'. and asks if I intend to invoke the method. Here is what I have: protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { int salary, AnnualHours, Rate; string txtAnnualHours, txtSalary, txtRate; salary = AnnualHours * Rate; txtsalary = int.Parse(Salary); txtAnnualHours = salary.ToString; MessageBox.Show(salary); } According to my book, when you enter numerics in AnnualHours and Rate textbox, when click Button1, these values are converted from string to integers, then multiplied for salary. Then numeric answer converted to string and displayed in messagebox named txtSalary. Please show me what I got wrong because according to the book, I am not missing anything.

If anyone could shed some light on a possible solution, it would be greatly appreciated.
