I am looking to expand into game development, and have found a good DirectX book from which I will study. However, what are some good resources (online tutorials/books/etc) for C++ game programming which are tailored towards someone who is already experienced with C++? Most of the resources I have found attempt to teach basic programming, then get into game development.

• GLSL vertex shaders with movements vs vertex off the screen

  If i have a vertex shader that manage some movements and variations about the position of some vertex in my OpenGL context, OpenGL is smart enough to just run this shader on only the vertex visible on the screen? This part of the OpenGL programmable pipeline is not clear to me because all the sources are not really really clear about this, they talk about fragments and pixels and I get that, but what about vertex shaders? If you need a reference i'm reading from this right now and this online book has a couple of examples about this.

• How to get SRGP working?

  I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10, and I'm trying to make SRGP work. SRGP is an old graphics package that accompanies the book "Computer Graphics" by Foley, van Dam, et al. I have installed libx11-dev, but I still can't get through make. I get the error "cannot find -lsrgp" when I typed make PROG=show_pattern. The book talks a lot about problem definition, determining the requirements, defining the structure, designing the code, etc. What tools are used for these non-writing steps of programming? Is there software that will help me design and plan out what I'm going to write before I do?

• how to programtically build a grid of interlocking but random sized squares

  I want to create a two dimensional layout of rectangular shapes, a grid made up of random sized cubes. The cubed should fit together and have equal padding or margin (space between). Kind of like a comic book layout, or more like the image attached. How could I do this procedurally? Practically, I would probably be using Python and some graphic software to render an image, but I don't know the type of algorithm (or whatnot) I would need to use to generate the randomized grid.

• Problem with drawing textures in OpenGL ES

  I'm developing a 2D game for Android and i'm using the framework which has been told in the book which named Beginning Android Games by Mario Zechner.So my framework is well designed and using OpenGL 1.1.It's similar to libgdx. When i put my textures adjacent each other in my 2d surface,there are some spaces size as 1 px.But this problem only occur on my tablet.There aren't a problem like this on my phone.It's like in this picture: What can be the problem?I can't fix it from one week.

This causes the thread pool to create a new thread, which allocates a lot of memory and wastes precious CPU time. Calling xxxAsync method and using C#’s async/await keywords allows your thread to return to the thread pool so it can be used for other things. This reduces the resource consumption of your app, allowing it to use more memory and improving response time to your clients. Congratulations Jeffrey!
