    Could anyone tell me some free hosting on which I can run my java web application even for a day? I don't want free forever. Free for 2-3 days will be fine I searched a lot on net but couldn't find anything. I just have some .html pages and some servlets in my java web application.

    Hi I want to use Yahoo's compressor for compressing js and css files. Which can be found here: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/compressor/ My only problem is that i have never used Java before. I have no idea how to execute or use this command line. I only have experience with js, jquery and php. It simply says: Usage: java -jar yuicompressor-x.y.z.jar [options] [input file] How should I proceed?

Is it possible to deliver this jar files using a CDN? What are the issues involved? Which CDNs would work for jar delivery? Is this different from static content delivery like images or video?

  • Problem with java on Windows

    I had installed jdk-6u18-windows-i586 on my machine. Later on I uninstalled it and installed jdk 1.5.0_13 instead. Now when I do javac -version I get jdk 1.5.0_13 But when I do java -version I get java version "1.6.0_19" How do I fix this?

  • What could cause this Java UnsatisfiedLinkError?

    The first part of the stack-trace is as follows: "UnsatisfiedLinkError (/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.19/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so: libmlib_image.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory):" Both libawt.so and libmlib_image.so exist and are in the same directory. Does libawt.so look in a different directory? Is there an environment option I'm missing? This is part of a Rails application using Rjb (ruby-java bridge). Any help is much appreciated.

    Recently, Mozilla decided to blocklist older versions of the Java plug-in. Unfortunately, this doesn't work well with some internal applications we are using. Does any know if there is a workaround? Perhaps a way to unblock the plug-in for certain domains? I've scoured Google. We're using the most up to date Firefox.   • Java Developer Days India Trip Report

    October 21st through October 25th I spoke at Java Developer Days India. This was three separate but identical one-day events in the cities of Pune (October 21st), Chennai (October 24th) and Bangalore (October 25th). For those with some familiarity with India, other than Hyderabad these cities are India's IT powerhouses. The events were focused on Java EE. I delivered five sessions on Java EE 7, WebSocket, JAX-RS 2, JMS 2 and EclipeLink/NoSQL. The events went extremely well and was packed in all three cities.   • New Regular Expression Features in Java 8

    Java 8 brings a few changes to Java’s regular expression syntax to make it more consistent with Perl 5.14 and later in matching horizontal and vertical whitespace. \h is a new feature. It is a shorthand character class that matches any horizontal whitespace character as defined in the Unicode standard. In Java 4 to 7 \v is a character escape that matches only the vertical tab character. In Java 8 \v is a shorthand character class that matches any vertical whitespace, including the vertical tab. When upgrading to Java 8, make sure that any regexes that use \v still do what you want. Use \x0B or \cK to match just the vertical tab in any version of Java. \R is also a new feature. It matches any line break as defined by the Unicode standard. Windows-style CRLF pairs are always matched as a whole. So \R matches \r\n while \R\R fails to match \r\n. \R is equivalent to (?\r\n|[\n\cK\f\r\u0085\u2028\u2029]) with an atomic group that prevents it from matching only the CR in a CRLF pair. Oracle’s documentation for the Pattern class omits the atomic group when explaining \R, which is incorrect. You cannot use \R inside a character class. RegexBuddy and RegexMagic have been updated to support Java 8. Java 4, 5, 6, and 7 are still supported. When you upgrade to Java 8 you can compare or convert your regular expressions between Java 8 and the Java version you were using previously.

  • Oracle Developer Day, Poland, 2012

    Oracle Developer Day took place in Poland today. Oracle's Gregor Rayman did the keynote, where NetBeans was positioned, yet again, as Oracle's IDE for the Java Platform, via the JavaFX Roadmap: Well, it's not so clear from my pic above, but NetBeans is closely tied to the JavaFX Roadmap, as well as the JDK Roadmap too. Then the tracks started, one of which was the Java Track (the other two tracks were on ADF/WebLogic and SOA/BPM/BAM), where among other things I demonstrated the Java EE 6 Platform via tools in NetBeans IDE at some length. The room could hardly have been fuller, chairs had to be brought in and people were standing along the walls. The above pic shows the session being set up, with the room full of developers ready to hear about Java EE 6. I also did a session on pluggable Java desktop development (i.e., NetBeans Platform) and on "What's New in NetBeans IDE 7.1?", while Martin Grebac had a session on Java EE Web Services. Some of the many questions asked during the day that I thought were interesting: Is there localization support for the @Pattern annotation? I.e., what if I want to display the error message in Polish, what do I do? Is there filtering/sorting support for the DataTable component in JSF? Why is there no visual editor for ejb-jar.xml, in the same way that there is for web.xml? "Would be handy if there were to be a JSR for IDE Keyboard Shortcuts." (Two different people asked this question, separately, without knowing about each other. The second didn't know about the Eclipse and IntelliJ keyboard shortcut support in NetBeans IDE and was happy when I told them about it.) Wouldn't it be cool if, on start up, or during installation, there'd be a question: "Are you migrating from Eclipse/IntelliJ?" Then, if "yes", reset the keyboard shortcuts to match the IDE they're coming from.Is there a way in NetBeans to find subclasses of a class? "Would be cool if HTML or JSF files could be visualized in the same way as JavaFX and Swing classes." I.e., Visual Debugger for web developers. I had a great day and am looking at the Oracle Developer Day that will be held in Cluj, Romania, on Friday.

  • How to sanely configure security policy in Tomcat 6

    I'm using Tomcat 6.0.24, as packaged for Ubuntu Karmic. The default security policy of Ubuntu's Tomcat package is pretty stringent, but appears straightforward. In /var/lib/tomcat6/conf/policy.d, there are a variety of files that establish default policy. Worth noting at the start: I've not changed the stock tomcat install at all -- no new jars into its common lib directory(ies), no server.xml changes, etc. Putting the .war file in the webapps directory is the only deployment action. the web application I'm deploying fails with thousands of access denials under this default policy (as reported to the log thanks to the -Djava.security.debug="access,stack,failure" system property). turning off the security manager entirely results in no errors whatsoever, and proper app functionality What I'd like to do is add an application-specific security policy file to the policy.d directory, which seems to be the recommended practice. What's interesting is that: it doesn't exist in this context the fact that the file doesn't exist ends up throwing a security exception, rather than java.io.File.exists() simply returning false (although I suppose that's just a matter of the semantics of the read permission). Another workaround (besides just disabling the security manager in tomcat) is to add an open-ended permission to my policy file: grant { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; I presume this is functionally equivalent to turning off the security manager. I suppose I must be getting the codeBase declaration in my grants subtly wrong, but I'm not seeing it at the moment.

  • Coding solution to WAR installation error (Websphere Portal 6.0) ?

A week ago, the WAR file produced by Rational Application Developer could be installed on the Portal server with no problems. Yesterday I made some seemingly minor changes to two JSP files and their associated "pagecode" Java files, and attempting to update the WAR on the server (using the Portal Administration web interface) now produces an error message. The WAR upload works, and the system shows me the correct list of portlets in the WAR file, but clicking "Finish" gives me a page with the error message "EJPAQ1319E: Cannot install the selected WAR file. View Details". Explanation: A portlet application containing legacy portlets can only be updated with another portlet application that contains legacy portlets. The same is true for standard portlet applications. User Response: Modify the portlet.xml of the application such that it matches the original API type, standard or legacy and try again. However, the "portlet.xml" file has not changed in about a month, and I've done several WAR updates for this application in that time with no problems. The problem seems to be caused by the code changes I did yesterday, but I have no clue why a few lines of code would do this. Any ideas?

    Hi I am using edtftpj-pro3.1 trial copy in my android app to make SFTP connection with the server. After few connections with the server with 5-6 file transfers, my app is crashing with following exception. Is it causing the problem or what could be the problem??   • App starts in 1.5 emulator but doesn't in 1.6

    My app works on 1.5 emulator and 1.5 device. When i try to start it on 1.6 emulator, it produces strange exceptions (doesn't even start). I don't have any 1.6 device to try this app if it works on a real device. I get some warnings in Eclipse ( warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. This class was probably produced by a broken compiler.) and get cant rid of them (i think they come from some apache jars that i need to make http multipart posts). Is it possible that this jars are cause for my exceptions in 1.6 or is it something else?
