• Naming convention for the primary key in a Table

  Hi all, I am learning the Model relationship types in cakephp. I have built twotables and in one of the Table A, I got these fields in it: Table A {postID, topic, content} Table B {replyID, content, postID} And when I ran the web page, a bunch of error related to SQL popped up saying that cakephp couldn't find post_id. It is weird that I have already declared the $primaryKey to be using postID in the tableA.php under Models folder, but cakephp seemed want me to change the ID field to post_id instead of postID, because the error disappeared after I have changed the primaryKey to post_id. ANy ideas?

• possible to create sql query with table wildcards?

  this is probably a simple question, but i have been unable to find a solution online, any help would be much appreciated. I'm trying to create an SQL query in PHP and would like to somehow apply a wild card to the TABLE filter... something perhaps like.... select * from %table%. However, I have only so far been able to see filters for column values not table names. as an example i would have tables such as: jan_table_1 feb_table_1 jan_table_2 feb_table_2 and would want to say, select only tables with a "jan" prefix... or "1" suffix. Is there a quick and easy solution to this that I have not seen? Thanks in advance!

  I have some bulk data in a text file that I need to import into a MySQL table. The table consists of two fields .. ID (integer with auto-increment) Name (varchar) The text file is a large collection of names with one name per line ... (example) John Doe Alex Smith Bob Denver I know how to import a text file via phpMyAdmin however, as far as I understand, I need to import data that has the same number of fields as the target table. Is there a way to import the data from my text file into one field and have the ID field auto-increment automatically? Thank you in advance for any help.

  Hi there, I was wanting to use a plist to populate my grouped table. I've had a look at the DrillDownSave sample project, and I'm still none-the-wiser. Although, I did learn that I could store hierarchies and suchlike in there. So here's the questions: How can I use my plist to add new items to my grouped table? I'm currently feeding the table with an array, and I've noticed that an array isn't going to be the best thing for me. When a user taps on an item in the plist, how can I push the view to the corresponding item? In other words, how can I push the view based on the selected row (which was generated by the plist) to it's next "view"? If that makes any sense, please reply. Thanks, Jack.

• Hard to append a table with many records into another without generating duplicates

  I may seem to be a bit wordy at first but for the hope it will be easier for all of you to understand what I am doing in the first place. I have an uncommon but enjoyable activity of collecting as many species of wood from around the world as I can (over 2,900 so far). Ok, that is the real world. Meanwhile I have spent over 8 years compiling over 5.8 meg of text data on all the woods of the world. That got so large that learning some basic PHP and MySQL was most welcome so I could build a new database driven home for all this research. I am still slow at it but getting there. The original premise was to find evidence of as many species of woods in the world I can. The more names identified, the more successful the project. I have named the project TAXA for ease of conversation (short for Taxonomy). You are most welcome to take a look at what I have so far at www.prowebcanada.com/taxa. It is 95% dynamically driven. So far I am reporting about 6,500 botanical wood names and, as said above, the more I can report, the more successful is the project. I have a file of all the woods in the second largest wood collection in the world, the Tervuren wood collection in the Netherlands with over 11,300 wood names even after cleaning out all duplicates. That is almost twice the number I am reporting now so porting all the new wood names from Tervuren to the 'species' table where I keep the reported data would be a major desirable advancement in the project. At one point I was able to add all the Tervuren records to the species table but over 3,000 duplicates also formed. They were not in the Tervuren file in the first place but represent the same wood names common to both files. It is common sense that there would be woods common to both that when merged would create new duplicates. At one point and with the help of others from another forum, I may very well have finally got the proper SQL statement. When I ran it, though, the system said (semi-amusingly at first) ----- that it had gone away! After looking up on the Net what could have have done this, one reason is that the MySQL timeout lapses and probably because of the large size of files I am running. I am running this on a rented account on Godaddy so I cannot go about trying to adjust any config file. For safety, I copied the tervuren.sql file as tervuren_target.sql and the species.sql file as species_master.sql tp use as working files just to make sure I protect the original files from destruction or damage. Later I can name the species_master back to just species.sql once I am happy all worked well. The species file has about 18 columns in it but only 5 columns match the columns in the Tervuren file (name for name and collation also). The rest of the columns are just along for the ride, so to speak. The common key in both is the 'species_name" columns in both. I am not sure it is at all proper to call one a primary key and the other a foreign key since there really is no relational connection to them. One is just more data for the other and can disappear after, never to be referred to the working code in the application. I have been very surprised and flabbergasted on how hard it can be to append records from one large table into another (with same column names plus others) without generating NEW duplicates in the first place. Watch out thinking that a SELECT DISTINCT statement may do the job because absolutely NO records in the species table must get destroyed in the process and there is no way (well, that I know of) to tell the 'DISTINCT" command this. Yes, the original 'species' table has duplicates in it even before all this but, trust me ---- they have to be removed the long hard way manually record by record or I will lose precious information. It is more important to just make sure no NEW duplicates form through bringing in new names in the tervuren_target.species_name into species.species_name. I am hoping and thinking that a straight SQL solution should work --- except for that nasty timeout. How do I get past that? Could it mean that I may have to turn to a PHP plus SQL method?? Or ..... would I have to break up the Tervuren files into a few smaller ones and run them independently (hope not....)" So far, what seems should be easy has proven to be unexpectedly tricky. I appreciate any help you can give but start from the assumption that this may be harder to do right than it may seem on the surface. By the way --- I am running a quad 64 bit system with Windows 7, so at least I have some fairly hefty power on the client end. I have a direct ethernet cable feeding a cable connection to the Internet. Once I get an algorithm and code working for this, I also have many other lists to process that could make the 'species' table grow even more. It could be equivalent to (ahem) lighting a rocket under my project (especially compared to do this record by record manually)! This is my first time in this forum, so I do not know how I can receive any replies. Do I have to to come back here periodically or are replies emailed out also? Ex: People older than 26 Name Properties Jane Smart, Funny, Good-looking Joe Smart, Workaholic It's also acceptable to return one of the properties and total property count. The query should be efficient: there are millions of rows in people table, hundreds of thousands of rows in properties table (so most people have no properties). There are hundreds of rows selected at a time. Is there any way to do it?

  I'm trying to run a simple query with $this->db in Kohana, but am running into some syntax issues when I try to use an alias for a table within my query: $result = $this->db ->select("ci.chapter_id, ci.book_id, ci.chapter_heading, ci.chapter_number") ->from("chapter_info ci") ->where(array("ci.chapter_number" => $chapter, "ci.book_id" => $book)) ->get(); It seems to me that this should work just fine. I'm stating that "chapter_info" ought to be known as "ci," yet this isn't taking for some reason. The error is pretty straight-forward: There was an SQL error: Table 'gb_data.chapter_info ci' doesn't exist - SELECT `ci`.`chapter_id`, `ci`.`book_id`, `ci`.`chapter_heading`, `ci`.`chapter_number` FROM (`chapter_info ci`) WHERE `ci`.`chapter_number` = 1 AND `ci`.`book_id` = 1 If I use the full table name, rather than an alias, I get the expected results without error. This requires me to write much more verbose queries, which isn't ideal. Is there some way to use shorter names for tables within Kohana's query-builder?

  Is there a way to specify distinct sequences for each table in Hibernate, if the ID is defined on a mapped superclass? All entities in our application extend a superclass called DataObject like this: @MappedSuperclass public abstract class DataObject implements Serializable { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE) @Column(name = "id") private int id; } @Entity @Table(name = "entity_a") public class EntityA extends DataObject { ... } @Entity @Table(name = "entity_b") public class EntityB extends DataObject { ... } This causes all entities to use a shared sequence, the default hibernate_sequence. What I would like to do is use a separate sequence for each entity, for example entity_a_sequence and entity_b_sequence in the example above. If the ID were specified on the subclasses then I could use the @SequenceGenerator annotation to specify a sequence for each entity, but in this case the ID is on the superclass. Given that ID is in the superclass, is there a way I can use a separate sequence for each entity — and if so, how? (We are using PostgreSQL 8.3, in case that's relevant)

  In DB2 there is a support for Materialized Query Table (MQT). Basicly you write a query and create a MQT. But the difference from View is that the query is pre-executed and resulting data is stored in MQT and there are some options when to refresh/syncronize the MQT with base tables. I want same functionality in SQL Server. Is there a way to achieve same result? I've tables with millions of rows, and I want to show summary (like total # of members, total expense and etc) in dashboard. So I don't want to count every time user gets to dashboard, instead I want to store them in table and I want that table to be refresh each night. • Undo/Redo Support for Table Changes in WPF RichTextBox

  As part of an editor project, I need to add functionality to the WPF RichTextBox control to allow the user to perform operations on a table. One of those operations is to apply a new width value to one or more columns of the table. I have a function that is applying a new Width value to the TableColumn objects in question, and the table is resizing itself nicely. However, I've noticed that the column-width change operation does not seem to be added to the undo stack. In other words, if a user types something, then changes a column width, then selects undo, the RichTextBox control undoes the user's typing. Undo and redo don't seem to be picking up the property change on the TableColumn object. Is there some way to make this operation occur in a way that it actually is undoable/redoable?

  can anyone please help. I've seen many people with the same problem and looked at all suggestions but still cannot get this to work. I have tried to unistall the application and install again, I have tried to change the version number and start again. I've debugged the code and it does go into the onCreate function, but when I go to make a select query it says the users table does not exist. Any help would greatly be appreciated.   I have a need to sync auto_increment fields between two tables in different databases on the same MySQL server. The hope was to create a stored procedure where the permissions of the admin would let the web user run ALTER TABLE [db1].[table] AUTO_INCREMENT = [num]; without giving it permissions (That just smells of SQL injection). My problem is I'm receiving errors when creating the store procedure. Is this something that is not allowed by MySQL? • In SQL, in what situation do we want to Index a field in a table, or 2 fields in a table at the same

  In SQL, it is obvious that whenever we want to do a search on millions of record, say CustomerID in a Transactios table, then we want to add an index for CustomerID. Is another situation we want to add an index to a field when we need to do inner join or outer join using that field as a criteria? Such as Inner join on t1.custumerID = t2.customerID. Then if we don't have an index on customerID on both tables, we are looking at O(n^2) because we need to loop through the 2 tables sequentially. If we have index on customerID on both tables, then it becomes O( (log n) ^ 2 ) and it is much faster. Any other situation where we want to add an index to a field in a table? What about adding index for 2 fields combined in a table. That is, one index, for 2 fields together?

• ASP MVC Populate drop down list on jQuery add table row

  I have a page with several drop down lists that all have the same contents. The page starts out with only three ddls, but more need to be added based on user input. There is also other information associated with the drop down lists that is all in a table. So, when the user clicks a link I add a new row of textboxes and drop down lists to a table. When I add a row to my table, the new drop down lists are empty because there is no view data associated with them. How can I use ajax or jquery to pull the viewdata that I need to populate new drop down lists?

• want to change background of table td on hover

  I have a webpage that displays a calendar, and I want to change the background-color of any td that has their day number linked, so when I hover over that day, it changes the background-color. I thought this would work: .main-calendar td { width:14%; height:100px; text-align:center; border:1px solid #000; font-size:20px; vertical-align:middle; display:block; } table.main-calendar td a:hover, table.main-calendar td a:visited { display:block; text-decoration:none; background-color:red; color:#fff; } table.main-calendar td a:link { display:block; text-decoration:none; background-color:green; color:#fff; } Any help is appreciated.

• Table View Page Control Code

  Hi Everyone this is what i want to achieve 1) Have a page control that allows user to do a swipe to 6 different pages 2) each page is a table view controller 3) everything is done via code NOT IB The tutorials that are i find either use VIEW CONTROLLER or is done via IB. I am not very good with IB and prefer to have everything done via coding. I have a TableViewController.h and TableViewController.m When the user navigate to the TableViewController view, my application will display a table view (filled with some information), when the user swip to the next page, another page (table view) will appear with another set of information... I am very new to objective-c and iphone programing...can some one pls guide me on how to achieve the above or is there another way to doing things? oh yar....i have a tab bar controller as my root controller...and for one of the tab (tab A) i have a navigation controller and my TableViewControllers falls inside tab A. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
