• Optimizing jQuery for Tabs

  I am in the process of developing a widget. If the user changes tabs quickly the widget gets behing and bogged down. This causes the tabs to to not align with the data being displayed and just general lag. I believe that this is because the tab is being changed before $.load() is finished. I have tried to implement the following: ("#tabs li a").click(function() { $("#tabs li.active").removeClass("active"); $("#tab_content").load($(this).attr('href'), function (){ $(this).parent().addClass("active"); }); return false; }); It is my understanding that the callback function within in the load function does not execute until the load function is completed. I think this would solve my problem, however I can not come up with a way to select the correct tab that was clicked within the callback function. If this is not the way to do this then what is the best way implement these tabs so that they would stop loading an old request and load the newest tab selection by the user? Thanks

  Hi there, I'm trying to setup SCOM(System Center Operations Manager 2007 (SCOM) – Platform Monitoring) on my Server 2008 machine using SQL Server 2008 running on the same machine. When I check my prerequisites I get problem on SQL and Active Directory components. (I'm running SQL server 2008 and Server 2008 with active directory not installed) Errors: 1.Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 required. Details: SQL Server 2005 SP1 is the next version of SQL Server. SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, is a complete data and analysis platform for large mission-critical business applications. The link provided in the resolution column is a trial version of the product and is not supported by the Microsoft SQL Server team In order to install active directory needs to be present. Details:Setup failed to verify the presence of Active Directory for this server. I've got a couple of questions I need answering, hope someone can help. Do I need to install Active Directory for SCOM to work? Can I run SCOM with an SQL 2008 Database? How do I get pass these problems?

• Animating the offset of the scrollView in a UICollectionView/UITableView causes prematurely disappearing cells

  We have a UICollectionView with a custom layout very similar to UITableView (it scrolls vertically). The UICollectionView displays only 3 cells simultaneously, with one of them being the currently active cell: [ 1 ] [*2*] [ 3 ] (The active cell here is #2.) The cells are roughly 280 points high, so only the active cell is fully visible on the screen. The user doesn't directly scroll the view to navigate, instead, she swipes the active cell horizontally to advance to the next cell. We then do some fancy animations and scroll the UICollectionView so the next cell is in the "active" position, thus making it the active one, moving the old one away and bringing up the next cell in the queue: [ 2 ] [*3*] [ 4 ] The problem here is setting the UICollectionView's offset. We currently set it in a UIView animation block (self.collectionView.contentOffset = targetOffset;) along with three other animating properties, which mostly works great, but causes the first cell (the previously active one, in the latter case, #2) to vanish as soon as the animation starts running, even before the delay interval completes. This is definitely not ideal. I've thought of some solutions, but can't figure out the best one: Absurdly enlarge the UICollectionView's frame to fit five cells instead of three, thus forcing it to keep the cells in memory even if they are offscreen. I've tried this and it works, but it sounds like an awfully dirty hack. Take a snapshot of the rendered content of the vanishing cell, put it in a UIImageView, add the UIImageView as a subview of the scrollView just before the cell goes away in the exact same position of the old cell, removing it once the animation ends. Sounds less sucky than the previous option (memory-wise, at least), but still kinda hacky. I also don't know the best way to accomplish this, please point me in the right direction. Switch to UIScrollView's setContentOffset:animated:. We actually used to have this, and it fixed the disappearing cell issue, but running this in parallel with the other UIView animations apparently competes for the attention of the main thread, thus creating a terribly choppy animation on single-core devices (iPhone 3GS/4). It also doesn't allow us to change the duration or easing of the animation, so it feels out of sync with the rest. Still an option if we can find a way to make it work in harmony with the UIView block animations. Switch to UICollectionView's scrollToItemAtIndexPath:atScrollPosition:animated:. Haven't tried this, but it has a big downside: it only takes 3 possible constants (that apply to this case, at least) for the target scroll position: UICollectionViewScrollPositionTop, UICollectionViewScrollPositionCenteredVertically and UICollectionViewScrollPositionBottom. The active cell could vary its height, but it always has to be 35 points from the top of the window, and these options don't provide enough control to accomplish the design. It could also potentially be just as problematic as 3.1. Still an option because there might be a way to go around the scroll position thing that I don't know of, and it might not have the same issue with the main thread, which seems unlikely. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please ask if you need clarification. Thanks a lot!

  I am trying to display my events from a MySQL database. I'm using the events function. My XML file being returned is pretty basic. I've looked at all of the FullCalendar questions and most of them talk about JSON and point to the documentation for JSON. I can't use JSON. I have to go XML. Can you tell me where I'm off. I do know in theory how it should work, but having trouble getting started in code... I know, at least I think, this program is not real time and its not meant to be. Some how I need to create a scheduler dispatch to control the threads in the order they should run... RR FCFS SJF ect. Right now I don't have a dispatcher. What I do have is semaphores/ mutex to control the threads. This code does run FCFS... and I have been trying to use semaphores to create a RR.. but having a lot of trouble. I believe it would be easier to create a dispatcher but I dont know how. I need help, I am not looking for answers just direction.. some sample code will help to understand a bit more. Thank you.

  I'm trying to get the attributes of a keychain item. This code should look up all the available attributes, then print off their tags and contents. According to the docs I should be seeing tags like 'cdat', but instead they just look like an index (i.e., the first tag is 0, next is 1). This makes it pretty useless since I can't tell which attribute is the one I'm looking for. • Making Google Talk messages appear on all logged in clients

  We're using Google Talk as our unofficial-official chat client around the office at work. One thing that poses a big problem almost every day is the fact that Google Talk only sends a message to the clients that you last used. Even though you may be logged into GTalk on 3 different machines, if you start talking on one machine, that becomes your "active" machine, and if you go to another machine, you will still only get messages on the last active machine. Is there a way that you can force Google Talk to send messages to ALL logged in clients, regardless of which client you are actively using? That way, you don't miss any messages during the time between when you get up from the active machine and then make the new client "active".

• missing files after reassemble of RAID-5

  I had to open my file-server's housing on Sunday to replace a faulty fan. What I didn't see was that one of the sata-cables was not properly connected. The 1st thing I did after a reboot was a check of the RAID status and it showed immediately that one drive is missing. Till this moment the device was not used (however it was mounted, so I'm not 100% sure that system did nothing). I stopped md0 and re-plugged the cable: mdadm --stop /dev/md0 poweroff After another reboot I checked the removed drive: mdadm --examine /dev/sdd1 ... Checksum : 3276bc1d - correct Events : 315782 Layout : left-symmetric Chunk Size : 32K Number Major Minor RaidDevice State this 0 8 49 0 active sync /dev/sdd1 0 0 8 49 0 active sync /dev/sdd1 1 1 8 65 1 active sync /dev/sde1 2 2 8 33 2 active sync /dev/sdc1 3 3 8 17 3 active sync /dev/sdb1 I was a bit surprised that it was shown as active (even if earlier mdadm said, that this device was removed from array) and its checksum was OK. I recreated RAID with: mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 --scan The command mdadm --detail /dev/md0 showed that all drives were running and system was in "clean" state. I mounted the device md0 and then came hic-cup. I wanted to work on one of the last files that I had been using before all the situation and it was not there. In another place I missed actually all files from the directory where I was working. As far as I can see most of the files that are older than a few days are intact but some newer ones are missing. Now the big question: what would be your advice? Is there a way to get these data? I thought about removing the drive that was earlier labeled by mdadm and rebuild array with another empty HDD. I've found that after re-assemble the "broken" drive has another label (changed from sdd to sdb). Can this have influence on rebuilt process? If yes, how to reassemble the array properly? I'm sure the SATA-cables are connected still in the same order to the controller. p.s. Please no advises like "restore from backup". I'm doing back-ups on Sunday's night and this happened in the late afternoon, so backup is not really options for me. p.s.s. I asked this question on Unix&Linux but no answer came up during last two days. I'm getting quite anxious. Sorry for duplicating if any of you reading the other forum.

(I'm using a metaclass solution instead of the class decorator solution in the previous question/answer because you can't set attributes on classmethods, which I need.) I am having a strange error I don't understand. At the end of my post are the contents of a models.py that you can pop into a fresh project/application to see the error. • How do you re-mount an ext3 fs readwrite after it gets mounted readonly from a disk error?

  Its a relatively common problem when something goes wrong in a SAN for ext3 to detect the disk write errors and remount the filesystem read-only. Thats all well and good, only when the SAN is fixed I can't figure out how to re-re-mount the filesystem read-write without rebooting.   So, one of my servers has a hard disk failure. • JavaScript-like Object in Python standard library?

  Quite often, I find myself wanting a simple, "dump" object in Python which behaves like a JavaScript object (ie, its members can be accessed either with .member or with ['member']). Usually I'll just stick this at the top of the .py: class DumbObject(dict): def __getattr__(self, attr): return self[attr] def __stattr__(self, attr, value): self[attr] = value But that's kind of lame, and there is at least one bug with that implementation (although I can't remember what it is). So, is there something similar in the standard library? • How can I unbind JQZOOM in my JQuery Script?

  Hello, I have this script at the moment, which changes an image when a thumbnail has been changed. I then want JQZOOM to be added to that new image. However, if I put it inside the Onclick event, it gets slower and slower the more times you click on it... I guess because its running multiple instances. Is there anyway to unbind the JQZOOM from something then rebind it to something else? • Very simple jQuery rollover

  I made a very simple jQuery img rollover function inspired by this one: http://www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000224.php. It just check all the imgs that contain _off in their name and swap them with an img with the same name but "_on" instead of "_off". Since I can't use background imgs in my layout, I feel that's an handy solution. But I've got the feeling that the swapping is not smooth, like if the function runs slow. What do you think? Are there ways to optimize it? I have a done value that allows the first thread to increment the count value first until its run time is up.. so its like a First Come First Serve. my question is, is there a better way of implementing this? I have read about SCHED_FIFO or SCHED_RR.. I guess I dont know how to implement them into this code or if it can be.
