• Setting primary internet connection and network on notebook

  I have installed Ubuntu on a notebook that I have configured to connect to the internet using an Iburst USB modem. This works 100% after a bit of configuring. I now have a desktop pc that I have installed ubuntu on, and would like to connect the two with a router. I bought a router with wifi, and would like to connect my notebook to the other computer using wifi, while still keeping the internet working with the usb modem. The problem is that as soon as the wifi connect, the internet connection dies. Is there a way to force ubuntu to get internet access through the usb modem, but use wifi to connect to the network? I am pretty new to ubuntu so any help would be appreciated. I also have a samsung galaxy tab that I would like to connect to the internet through usb modem via the wifi, so is there also a way to share that internet connection with the other computers on the network? • What's causing Remote Access error 807 using rasdial.exe to connect to a PPTP VPN?

  I'm using rasdial.exe to connect an offsite server to our VPN. Remote box is a Windows 2008 x64 server; the VPN host at this end is a Watchguard Firebox x750e running Fireware 10.2 It connects fine about 20-30% of the time. The rest of the time I get: Remote Access error 807 - The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity. For more help on this error: Type 'hh netcfg.chm' In help, click Troubleshooting, then Error Messages, then 807 The VPN isn't full, and it's 100Mb dedicated fibre on both ends so I can't believe it's a connectivity issue - especially since I'm RDP'ed into the remote box whilst trying to do this! So how did you connected multiple monitors to you mac, and are these adapters the best choices, if yes then is there an OS independent one?

  I have had some success with usb docks like this Universal Docking Station by Kensington to connect one external display to my laptop while using the onboard vga port for another display. But that's only two displays and I'm shooting for three. All I do is develop software and work in Photoshop... no games. For the sake of discussion, we can assume a Thinkpad or equivalent laptop with Windows 7 (I'm hoping for a platform-agnostic solution). How could I do this?

• SAN newbie: What kind of fiber cables do I need to connect to the front end ports on my EMC CX300

  I have an old CX300 I'm messing with and I cant determine what kind of HBA\fiber cables I need to connect a server to the front end ports on the DPE2. The hardware reference doesn't give me any details and being new to FC-SAN all of the options are pretty overwhelming. I don't know if the ports are SC or LC or if it requires singlemode or multimode. Googling hasn't turned up anything for me either. All I know is that it supports 2GB Fiber.   I am going to buy BenQ G2220HD 22" LCD display I already have an EVGA GeForce 9400GT. Both support DVI. But the confusion came when I wanted to buy a DVI cable. I am confused with DVI and DVI-D and DVI-I and then Single link and Dual link! Can someone tell me whether this cable can be used to connect my 9400GT to my BenQ display? If not, what kind of DVI cable should I buy - DVI, DVI-D, single link, dual link, DVI-I?? Basically, geforce docs say it is a dual link dvi capable one. my benq display docs say it is dvi-d. what are my options now? what kind of dvi cable should I get? Please don't give me brands, because most of them won't be here in India. Just tell me the TYPE of DVI cable.

• Having XP VM use my host OSX ssh tunnel to connect to a remote site?

  I am using Mac OSX and have Windows XP running on VMWare Fusion. I'm creating an ssh tunnel from OSX to a remote server, and then trying to have Windows XP use that tunnel (I actually use a program called Proxifier on XP to filter my XP MS SQL Server traffic through that tunnel) Note that I can successfully create an ssh tunnel (on port 9333) from the XP putty to the remote host, and have SQL Server Proxify through that tunnel and it all works correctly. However when I try to set up the tunnel in OSX, and have Proxifier in XP point to the OSX tunnel instead of localhost, it doesn't seem to connect. Here is the OSX command i'm using to create the tunnel: ssh -i /my/key -p 9001 -D 9333 -g me@remotehostname Then I set my XP proxifier to point to macosxhostname:9333 (instead of the previous localhost:9333 which worked corrently when using putty) Any suggestions on what I may have missed? My XP firewall is turned off while setting this up.

In my cromium browser I tried the following ip addresses: Standard Usual IPs : 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 (connection hangs and goes no where) On the back of my router: 192.168.11.1, 192.168.11.100 (connection hangs and goes nowhere ) In some tcpip info: 192.168.24.1 (unable to connect error message) If someone could give me some terminal commands that will help me find my wireless router address or some trouble shooting ideas, I would be very thankful.

  I have a test application written in C#/ASP.NET that I've developed using Visual Studio 2008 Professional/.NET 3.5 which connects to a local SQL Server 2008 Express instance. I upgraded the development machine to Visual Studio 2010 Professional maintaining .NET 3.5 and everything in the development environment continues to work correctly. Upon deployment of the new app to an internal staging machine, that app cannot connect to its local SQL Server 2008 Express database. I get the customary "server not found" error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible... Does something need to be upgraded on the staging machine to be able to host a Visual Studio 2010/.NET 3.5 application?

• How can I reverse connect with vncconnect or vncconfig with ubuntu as the server?

  On a windows machine I am running: "listening VNC viewer" From a Ubuntu machine, I need to reverse connect to the windows machine but it does not seem to be working. I was able to make it work between 2 windows machines, but I need it to work with Ubuntu as the server as well. I tried vncconnect -display $DISPLAY 192.168.1.134:5500 and nothing happens. So instead I tried vncconfig but I get the message : "No VNC extension on display :0.0" Any ideas? If this is the wrong site just send me a comment I'll close the question.

  My intention is to perform a backup of my laptop's (Dell Vostro 3350) sda1 disk to my desktop. After some googling I decided to use CloneZilla for that purpose. I have an OpenSSH server installed and running on my desktop. So I inserted CloneZilla CD to CD-rom, booted from it, then chose an option smth like "use ssh server to store image". Then I got an invitation to choose a network interface. I chose wlan0 and entered shell to manualy configure connection. And that's where I got into trouble, for wifi-network which I wanted to use is WPA2-encrypted, and I don't know how to connect to it from command line. Can somebody assist me. Appreciation for advance.

  Hi, I recently updated my nexus one to 2.2. Now I can't connect to my uni's wifi. They use PEAP with GTC. I had it working fine on 2.1. Also it works fine on my Ubuntu laptop. I have entered my uni number (user name) in the identity box. I have entered my password in the password box. • How do I connect to the serial console port os a Sunfire 280R?

  We have a Sunfire 280R (old SPARC/Solaris server) that is refusing to come up after being relocated. We're trying to connect to the serial console port, but all we get is random gibberish on the screen. We've tried both connecting with a DB25DB9 adapter and using a DB-25-RJ45 adapter with a cisco RJ45-DB9 adapter to a windows laptop. We're configuring the laptop to 9600 baud, 8 bit, 1 stop bit, no parity. We've tried both no flow control and Xon/Xoff. We get the same results hooking up to the serial port on a working SPARC server, so it's probably something in our setup rather than a fault with the server. How do we get access to to serial console so we can work out what is stopping this box from getting to the network? Is there a special sun adapter we need to get/make to get the serial link working?

• Ubuntu and mysql server. Something isnt allowing me to connect

  I have a question about mysql settings http://serverfault.com/questions/94054/remote-connections-and-mysql-on-ubuntu/94088#94088 now i want to figure out why i cannot connect. I made sure bind-address was commented out. I can ping the server within the VM but i cannot ping it from within the VM using mysqladmin --protocol=tcp --host=self_ip ping. I also followed along and check if my ports were open and they look like they are. I setup samba on that VM and can access that with no problem as well. It looks like ubuntu does not have a firewall either (i figured this out before) so i am stumped why the server isnt allowing my connection. Apparently the config file works on another person side http://www.pastie.org/742545 I am using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS just because of 'support' reasons. So hopefully this will be 'easy'?

• OpenVPN to connect remote networks, peer to peer instead of client/server possible?

  I would like to connect two remote networks using OpenVPN. I am very new to this we are very small and don't have a sys/network admin. What are the possible setups to have both networks both live on a common LAN via OpenVPN? I would prefer to use the UDP peer model rather than client/server. Is there a way to set that up instead? I can't see how because no computer on existing network A has a routable address to any computer on existing network B and vice versa.

• ssh-agent is broken after running Meerkat - can connect to git in terminal but not in Tower - no keychain access

  My mac running Snow leopard 10.6.8 is having trouble handling it's ssh keys. I could previously access all my git repo's via Tower without an issue. The other day I ran Meerkat to see what it was about and it looks like it has broken the way ssh works. Terminal doesn't seem to have a problem and can still connect to Git, but it can't access the keychain. Tower doesn't seem to be able to access anything. The Tower support crew have been super helpful, but I wanted to float this here and see if anyone has any ideas on how to fix my problem. The only hints I have are: $ which ssh returns: /usr/bin/ssh and echo $SSH_AUTH_SOCK returns: /tmp/ssh-nBhRYVEg8t/agent.199 (This one seems to be wrong as I think it's supposed to point to a Listener, but no idea how to fix it) additional: Keychain first-aid finds no problems. The problem seems to be that ssh-agent is not being run properly... but that's just a guess.

  I have an .NET 3.5 WCF WebService hostet in IIS 6 and using a SSL certificate. The communication between client and server works. Then I activate "request client certificate" and the client can't connect anymore Exception: System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityNegotiationException: Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS with authority 'polizei-bv.stadt.hamburg.de'. Inner Exception: System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel. The certificate, the client uses is in the certificate store (local computer), the root ca is int the trusted root certification authorities store. Where can I check for an explanation on the server side? How can I check if the client really supplies it's certificate (client is not on my side)?

  I have this weird problem with a Ventrilo server software running in my linux machine. If I connect the server inside my local network, messages keep lagging etc. But users joining the server outside my network do not experience any problems. So the question is, how can I trick the software inside the local network to make me appear as joining from external network. Do I need some proxy running in some external network machine? Does someone offer this kind of service? All the problems started when I changed my router so I guess it has something to do with the new router, but I haven't found a solution by changing settings in my router so I try to fix this in some other way.

• What do I need to connect a hard disk to my laptop via non powered eSata?

  Hi there. I'm looking at getting a hard disk for my laptop (OCZ Vertex 2 SSD) which I would like to connect via eSata. My laptop has an eSata port, but it's not powered (Thinkpad T410). I presume this means I need more than just an eSata to eSata cable as it needs power, so does this mean I need a caddy for the hard disk as well which will provide power to the drive, or do I need one of them eSata cables that has a USB attachment too? I don't think the drive will come with a power supply. I realise this seems simple but I can't find an obvious answer online. Thanks for any assistance! Ludo.

• mRemote and RoyalTS both are not able to RDP connect me to a Windows Server 2008 system?

  I am completely stuck on this one. If I start a RDP session independently of these 2 programs everything works fine. My RDP session connects, I click "OK" to accept the "Notice To Users" security message and then it shows me the login screen where I enter my password manually. Now, if I try to use either mRemote or RoyalTS to create this connection, I get the same behavior except that I get a "The user name or password is incorrect." message. Now, I know this cannot be true since I can manually connect with RDP. So, what is the problem with these 2 pieces of software that prevents me from logging in? I have no problems with connecting to Windows XP systems with these programs. Additionally, I wish I knew how to get one of these programs to automatically click the "OK" button on the "Notice To Users" message while automatically attempting to log me in as part of the login process. Can they do that?
