• How do I know if I'm getting the most out of my video card?

  My computer at home is a bit lacking, so I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of it while I can. I believe the latest version of Ubuntu at the time was 9.x. What should I do? Install an old version of Ubuntu 9? Use some alternative driver? UPDATE: I might try my hand at a bit from this answer next: "Installing Catalyst Manually (from AMD/ATI's site)" . From a terminal, fgl_glxgears returns *"fgl_glxgears: command not found"*. Any thoughts?

• Why are 20% of keywords still provided when Google is using HTTPS across the board?

  Most of the searches that appear in my analytics are "not provided" because Google has encrypted their all searches. However, if all search results are now encrypted with HTTPS protocol then how is Google analytics still able to track some (20%) of the organic keywords details? There are still some keywords appearing in my organic keywords section. So how did Google analytics do this tracking? Does it bypass the HTTPS restrictions for the referrer?

• How can I get a user account back?

  With all my computers I make one partition for the root and another for /home. This is useful for disasters where I need to reformat the root for ubuntu, but leave my /home data untouched. With the upgrade to 13.10 I had troubles on my wife's computer so I reinstalled 13.10. My own /home files came up, as expected, as if nothing had happened. For my wife, it is a different story - and that is the part where I need help. If I go into Files, computer I can see the home directory. There I can see ilan (my files) and yona (my wife's files). I can open yona, documents and see all her work. This means that all is well and I just need to hook up to her files. So the problem is that I need to create a user called Yona or yona, but something which will get me to exactly the files of interest. I'm not sure if I created her account as standard or an administrator. Is there any way I could tell by looking at the files in /home? I created a new user called Yona as a standard user (hoping that this is the right guess). The account came up as disabled. I pressed on the disabled button so I could change the password. I put in her password but it was refused as too short. Too short, too short, but that is what was used and that is what I need. Can anyone help me before my wife comes home and shoots me?   I have a self hosted server with Apache2 pointed with the domain example.com. I have also some virtual servers www.example.com, cloud.examle.com, etc. This server is in my LAN, and when I try to acces to my server within the lan throw www.examle.com y get my router's configuration page. From outside the LAN www.example.com and cloud.examle.com works properly. From inside the LAN 192.168.1.33 (server internal IP) shows the default webpage (www.examle.com), but I can not get cloud.examle.com I also have a LAN name server in 192.168.1.33 with bind9.   I am developing a web site that has a lot of large, high-quality images on the home page. On the home page, there is an image carousel that pulls ten high quality images from a database. The images can be 1 meg each. The carousel images aren't my problem (right now), but it has something to do with it. The problem I am trying to address right now is that I use a high quality background image that I want to continue using, it's about 180k. If I have the background in cache on the home page, I want to use it. If not, then I don't want to use it on the home page. I'll load it from a different page. When the user returns to the home page, and the background image is in cache, I want to use it. Can I test whether an image is already in cache and if so, dynamically load or NOT load based on that?   I have a luks setup with encrypted partition. And I don't want everyone on my computer to see that I have such partition. Unfortunately it shows up in the nautilus "devices" panel as "Encrypted partition". Is there a way to prevent it from showing there? I plan to setup authentication with a keyfile on usb, but for now I can live without the gnome authentication dialog, and open and mount the partition from command line.

I already have TeamViewer installed on both PCs, so it will be okay as soon as the power is turned on. I have read many articles about this, I found both my PC and office computers support Wake-on-LAN. However, I don't know much about other config. And I need to turn on my computers through the Internet, not on LAN. My office Internet connection has static IP, however, my home Internet connection has dynamic IP, it changes as soon as I reset the modem, but it is not a big problem, I rarely turn the Internet modem off. And I don't have privilege to config office Internet connection, but I have Administration privilege on both PCs. • TrueCrypt partition will no longer mount

  I am hoping for some advice to help me out of my situation, with luck. I have a computer running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with 3 hard disks installed. On my 2TB hard disk 2 (non-system disk) I have 4 partitions. One is for music, another for video, a downloads partition and a 500GB RAW Truecrypt encrypted partition / volume that I had setup to mount with 4 photographs used as keyfiles. The 4 photographs are located in my 'Documents' partition which is one of four partitions on my 1.5TB hard disk 1 (non-system disk) When I setup the disk encryption I did not (I'm 99% sure) create a password, I only used the 4 photograph keyfiles to mount the volume. Recently my 1TB hard disk 0 (system / boot) started to fail so I decided to replace it. I was going to clone the old disk to a new disk but decided that a fresh installation would be more beneficial. Once I had transferred all the required 'User Data' from my old hard disk 0 (C: disk) I discarded it. I reinstalled Truecrypt, pointed to the partition, selected my 4 keyfiles photographs and I mounted my encrypted volume with no issues. In fact I mounted it several times after re-installing Windows and after reboots. Now all of a sudden when I try and mount it I get the message "incorrect keyfile(s) and/or password or not a Truecrypt volume". Now I am not sure why this happened as I do not recall exactly what I did between last mounting the volume successfully and it not mounting. Here are some of the possible things I may have done to cause it to stop working but I am at a loss as to where to start to try and resolve the problem. 1. I had swapped the drive letters to a preferred order. 2. I possibly swapped the physical SATA connectors on the mainboard. 3. I enabled 'Hot Plugging' for the two non-system hard disk SATA ports and the DVD SATA port in the BIOS. I have tried changing the encrypted partition drive letter as suggested in another post but this does not help. On my old system the encrypted drive was drive "X". I have about tried it with all the other free drive letters but alas nothing changes. I do not recall what drive letter was allocated to the encrypted partition before I changed them all. I have not tried to change the letter back to what it possibly was to start with as I am happy with the current layout. I will try this is anyone thinks it would be worthwhile though. I do hope I have managed to convey my situation in an understandable manner and live in hope someone could help me recover years of personal files. However I already ran the commands on this question (How to check if your home folder and swap partition are encrypted using terminal?) to check if home folder and swap partition are encrypted and they are. So why is that Ubuntu did not provide me the cryptographic key the same way it happened when I installed Ubuntu 11.04???

  I am running Fedora 12 and I've setup a partition separate from my root partition to keep shared files and home directories. Now, I've been having permission issues where it says the user cannot chdir into their home directory (/files/home/*). Now, I fixed this originally by chmodding / to 0755 and the home directories also to 0755. And yes, the user is the owner:group of their home directory. Now get this, I didn't change a thing, rebooted, everything still works. Great, right? I boot the server up a day later, and now same ol issue. This is a home server that wasn't on at all at any point in between the working state and non-working state. Also, nothing else was modified. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Why would autoconf/automake project link against installed library instead of local development libr

  I'm creating a library libgdata that has some tests and non-installed programs. I am running into the problem that once I've installed the library once, the programs seem to be linking to the installed version and not the local version in ../src/libgdata.la any longer. What could cause this? Am I doing something horribly wrong? Here is what my test/Makefile.am looks like: INCLUDES = -I$(top_srcdir)/src/ -I$(top_srcdir)/test/ # libapiutil contains all of our dependencies! I can make changes locally and they are picked up by these programs right away. If I install the package, these programs will compile (it seems like it does actually look locally for the headers), but once I run the program it complains about missing symbols. As far as I can tell, it is linking against the newly built library (../src/libgdata.la) based on the make output, so I'm not sure why this would be happening. If i remove the installed files, the local changes to src/* are picked up just fine. UPDATE 2 I did two tests. First, I did this after blowing away my dev-install directory (--prefix) and in that case, it creates test/.libs/lt-gdatacalendar. Once I have installed the library, though, it creates test/.libs/gdatacalendar instead. • iPad: Mobile Safari, HTML5 <video>, and jquery transitions

  I'm building a simple proof-of-concept for an iPad-specific website that would use video transitions to bring users from section to section. For purposes of the proof of concept, each "section" is just an image with a semitransparent content text box positioned above it. There are just 2 sections, "home" and "contact", and they've got a transition video sandwiched between them via z-indexing. The idea for the proof of concept is that clicking on the "home" section causes it to disappear, followed by playback of the transition video, which (upon completion) disappears to reveal the "contact" section. Everything is working fine with this version of the demo on the iPad and on Safari for Windows and OS X. Here's the JS: var myVideo = document.getElementsByTagName('video')[0]; $('document').ready(function() { $('#home').click(function() { $(this).css('display','none'); myVideo.play(); myVideo.addEventListener('ended', function() { $('#transition').css('display','none'); }); }); }); What I'd like to do is use a jQuery fadeOut() effect to fade out the text box prior to starting the video when the "home" section is clicked. • perl regex escape characters

  I have heard perl is a good language at doing regex but i am a bit confused at the characters that requires escaping I tested the code on http://regexlib.com/RETester.aspx and got the result I want //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp#1 //home/dev/((.*?)/[^/]+).*# Match $1 $2 //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp# abc/code abc However, I am not quite sure how do i translate this to perl code I tried, \/\/home\/dev\/\(\(\.\*\?\)\/\[\^\/\]\+\)\.\*\# and \/\/home\/dev\/((.*?)\/[^\/]+).*\# and both failed Don't you think the escaping makes the regex very unreadable? Am i using something wrong?
