• What should be done first: Code reviews or Unit tests?

  Hello, If a developer implements code for some module and wants to get it reviewed. What should be the order : *First unit test the module after designing test cases for the module, debugging and fixing the bugs and then give the modified code for peer code review (Pros- Code to be reviewed is 'clean' to a good extent. Reduces some avoidable review comments and rework. Cons- Developer might spend large time debugging/fixing a bug which could have pointed/anticipated in peer code reviews) Or *First do the code review with peers and then go for unit testing. What are your thoughts/experience on this? I believe this approach for unit testing, code reviewing should be programming language agnostic, but it would be interesting to know otherwise(if applicable) with specific examples. -AD

  I am going to write a small software to track active directory changes. I need an expert opinion from you. I want to display information about What ( with before and after values), When, Where and Who of any change in AD. I am going to implement this by one of the following way 1. Change Notification Control 2. DirSync Control Both of these method give us the attribute that are changed and we can compare new values with some dump in SQL Server to get old values. My problem is how can I find “Who” has made this change. I have tried but there is no attribute “LastModifiedBy” in active directory.   First, I am aware that dynamic languages is a term used mainly by a vendor; I am using it just to have a container word to include languages like Perl (a favorite of mine), Python, Tcl, Ruby, PHP and so on. They are interpreted but I am interested here to refer to languages featuring strong capability to support the programmer efficiency and the support for typical constructs of modern interpreted languages My question is: there are dynamic languages can be compiled efficiently in native executable code - typically for Windows platforms? Which ones? Maybe using some third part ad-hoc tools? I am not talking about huge executables carrying with them a full interpreter or some similar tricks nor some smart module able to include its own dependances or some required modules, but a honest, straight, standard, solid executable code. If not, there is some technical reason inhibiting the availability of such a best-of-both-world feature? Thanks! Daniel

• Windows batch file to delete folders/subfolders using wildcards

  I need to delete all folders in "tomin" folder, which name contains terminates with the ".delme" string. The deletion need to be done recurively: I mean on all directory and SUB directories. I though to do this: FOR /R tomin %%X IN (*.delme) DO (RD /S /Q "%%X") but it does not work, I think /R ignores wildcards. Before asking this quation I searched also in SO and found this: but the answers did not help me in solving my issue, following the suggestion given there I tried: FOR /F tomin "delims=" %%X IN ('dir /b /ad *.delme') DO RD /S /Q "%%X" But it did not work either. My listed code works great, with one exception: it won't return users who have their primary group set to "Domain Users". How can I get a list of all users in the group, including those who have it set as their primary group? • Why aren't Admob click callback delegate methods getting called?

  I'm integrating the latest version of the admob sdk (version 20100412) into my app. The ads get displayed, but I need the app to make some changes when an ad is clicked and admob displays a full-screen browser. However, none of the callback methods (willPresentFullScreenModal, didPresentFullScreenModal, willDismissFullScreenModal, and didDismissFullScreenModal) are called, even though other delegate methods are. Why aren't these callbacks being made? They were in the previous versions of the SDK, and the sample app doesn't use them, so it's no help. EDIT: removed the double negative from the question title

  Hi, Has anyone implemented a holiday workflow approval / tracking list in MOSS Sharepoint 2007? Can anyone suggests other solutions? The solution below works fine but I am specifically looking for a way to lookup manager of the user who created the holiday request list item in the workflow. • ODBC Linked server in sql 2005 doesn’t work from remote box

  I have a dev workstation with sql 2005 installed and in it I created a linked server to a odbc connection to a clarion database. I can run select statements against it inside sql Mgt studio. When I take a second workstation and connect to the sql on the first box using sql mgt studio, then try the exact same query I get OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "liveclarion" returned message "[SoftVelocity Inc.][TopSpeed ODBC Driver][ISAM]ISAM Table Not Found". Any thoughts? It appears to have the same functionality on a second sql server. No remote sql mgt studio connect success in queries against my linked ODBC clarion DB. All done with windows authentication and the same AD user.

• Redirects in RoR: Which one to use?

  Hello, we are making a website that takes a generated incoming link and forwards the user who is clicking on it to another website while saving a record of the action in our DB. I guess it's basically what ad-services like AdSense do. However, what is the best way to redirect the user? I think html-meta-tag-redirects are out of question. So what other options are there? head :moved_permanently, :location => "http://www.domain.com/" This one is a 301-redirect. The next one is a 302: redirect_to "http://www.domain.com" Are there any others? And which is best to use for our case? The links are highly-dynamic and change all the time. We want to make sure we don't violate any existing standards and of course we don't want search-engines to tag us as spammers (which we are not, btw). Thanks!

  Hello, In my SO profile, i tried to do Edit profile and there in "About Me" text box, i tried to paste a HTML code as below provided by linkedin.com to display a button which would link to my profile on linkedin. But it does not seem to work on SO.   I need for a certain dynamic element to always appear on top of another element, no matter what order in the DOM tree they are. Is this possible? I've tried z-index (with position: relative), and it doesn't seem to work. I hate to be vague, but this is the simplest way I can think of asking this question without explaining its purpose ad nauseum. I've dug up the fact that you need to pass "WT.srch=1" over in the url from the advert, but are there other parameters which you can use to segment: Campaign Adgroup Ad network I know you can do this with Google Analtics at the drop of a button using the various UTM tags, but Webtrends seems to use the proprietary WT. tags.   I have a cookie which stores info in an array. This is for a classifieds website, and whenever users delete their 'ads' the cookie must also be removed of the ad which was deleted.   I have a situation where I need to store a globally unique identifier that points to an Active Directory user account. I'm leaning towards the Guid because it is easier to store than the Sid. According to the MSDN entry, the property (which is a Nullable), will always return null if the ContextType is set to "Machine." I don't need to worry about this because our ContextType will always be set to "Domain." My question is, will this property ever return null if the ContextType is "Domain"? In other words, will an account in an AD DS store always have a Guid?

  Hi, I'm sure this is a simple question. But how do I get Wordpress at startup to ignore trying to load a Page or Post and instead load my custom page? When in the Wordpress bootstrap process is it decided which php-page is going to load? I will have the following url: bt.local/wp/ads/1 And would like a php-page called ads.php to be loaded and load the ad with adid = 1. What's the best way to solve this?   I'm trying to create a file that has a list of directories that have a specific file name in them. Let's say I'm trying to find directories that have a file named *.joe in them. I initially tried just a simple dir /ad *.joe > dir_list.txt , but it searches the directory names for *.joe, so no go. Then I concluded that a for loop was probably my best bet. I started with for /d /r %a in ('dir *.joe /b') do @echo %a >> dir_list.txt and it looked like it wasn't executing the dir command. I added the "usebackq", but that seems to only work for the /F command extension. Ideas?

  My web app (asp VB 2005) uses Windows authentication. If the user isn't part of a specific AD security group they don't get to edit the data; instead I redirect the user to a read-only page. The program works fine in the IDE. I published the web app to my laptop and Disabled anonymous access. When I ran the program I got redirected to the read-only page. I added a write event to the application event log to see what was going on, and found that the WindowsPrincipal.Identity.Name contained my laptop's ID, not my user name. I reassert: anonymous access is disabled in IIS and the web.config file has Windows Authentication. Can anyone suggest what else to check? Or can you explain what's going on?
