• How do you tell if two wildcards overlap?

  Given two strings with * wildcards, I would like to know if a string could be created that would match both. For example, these two are a simple case of overlap: Hello*World Hel* But so are all of these: *.csv reports*.csv reportsdump.csv Is there an algorithm published for doing this? Or perhaps a utility function in Windows or a library I might be able to call or copy?

• Non-blocking MySQL updates with java?

  For a multiplayer game I'm working on I'd like to record events to the mysql database without blocking the game update thread so that if the database is busy or a table is locked the game doesn't stop running while it waits for a write. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'm using c3p0 to manage the database connection pool. My best idea so far is to add query update strings to a synchronized list with an independent thread checking the list every 100ms and executing the queries it finds there.

  For a grails application, I need to find a list of objects whose "attr" is one in a dynamic list of strings. The actual HQL query is more complex, but the bit I need help with is this: def result = MyObject.executeQuery("select o from MyObject as o where o.attr in :list", [list: aListOfStrings]) This is obviously not the right syntax, Grails throws it back at me as an "unexpected token", being the :list parameter. Is this possible in HQL? I don't particularly want to use Criteria in this part of the codebase.

I have found a free Java Bluetooth library (Bluecove) to work with, but it seems that it might not support OBEX under Windows, which as I read is necessary to perform this task.   So i want to join strings with relative urls in Javascript. base url = "http://www.adress.com/more/evenmore" with relative url = "../../adress" = "http://www.adress.com/adress" relative url = "../adress" = "http://www.adress.com/more/adress" What would be the best way? I was thinking of using regexp and checking how many "../" i find, then subtracting that amount from the baseurl and adding them to what is left.
