• Connecting HDMI MediaCenter PC to Standard Def TV

  I just purchased a ASRock ION 330-HT-BD to use as my new Media Center. Sadly I still have a crappy standard-def old tube TV for the foreseeable future. The TV has Coax & Composite (Red, White, Yellow) inputs, and my new MediaCenterr has HDMI & VGA outputs. So my question is, how do I hook up the two together! All of the HDMI-to-Composite cables I have found explicitly state that they can not be used to hook a PC up to a TV. Any ideas?

• How to fix monitor detection on Windows 7?

  Hi, I'm using Windows 7 + Windows Media Center for my HTPC. It works great except from one annoying issue. Whenever I turn off my TV while listening the music, the music stop for a second or while Windows 7 tries to figure out what monitor is attached. After that second it settles down on a default 800x640. While not a big deal, it is annoying as I don't want to have the TV on while playing music. Is there anyway to fix the monitor/disable monitor auto-detection on Windows 7 so it would not start recalibrating everything when I turn off my TV? Thanks, Boaz

• Help: Best way to do a TV-out in 7300GT Nvidia video card?

  I'm planning to recycle my old PC and build a Media Center using an open-source (C#) software called MediaPortal. My old PC has a GeForce 7300GT with a TV-out plug built-in. When I tested it last night, it wouldn't detect my JVC tv (CRT) using the current drivers. I even purchased a new copper-based TV-Out to RCA cable. I searched all 3 AV channels. The video card has 3 output ports: 2 DVI & 1 s-video. I used the s-video with a S-Video to RCA out cable. I swapped between PAL & NTSC So what I did was I downloaded the first version of an Nvidia driver for 7 series cards, but still even with the old console, it couldn't detect the TV. I'm running out of viable ideas. Anyone here had the same problem and fixed it? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you!

• Windows Mobile deletes my Contacts when deleting a partnership

  Sometimes when I reinstall my PC get a new Work PC or buy a new home PC ,ActiveSync, now the Device Center asks me to delete an existing partnership to setup a partnership with the new PC, since only two partnerships are allowed. When I delete that partnership all contacts that originally came from that partnership get deleted too. How can I prevent that from happening. Do I really always have to remember to frequently backup all my contacts in a safe place? How much redundancy is needed. I hat them on one of my PCs and on my phone.

Let's also say this enterprise is a very typical one with a complex environment, lots of history and almost full lack of documentation. What's already been decided is that the new colleges will receive howto-style documentation for the most typical tasks and will get seme architecture documentation for some of the more complicated systems. Any ideas about improving this process? And more specifically, how should such a howto document look like to be helpful?

• Can I run Win7 virtualized for my HTPC?

  I'm currently running Vista for my HTPC, and am planning on upgrading to Win7 soon. However, I've been considering installing it as a VM so that I can run Windows Server 2008 and/or Windows Home Server. The single requirement is that the HTPC must boot up to Windows Media Center with absolutely no user intervention. I need to be able to hit the power button have it go. I've got this working currently, so I don't need to keep a keyboard or mouse plugged in - all I use is my remote. If possible, I'd love to be able to do these other things: Use Win2k8 Server as a VM host for Win7 Pro and WHS. This also lets me run IIS7 for doing ASP.NET development Use WHS for all the wonderful things it does for a home network Are either of the two optional things possible while meeting the WMC requirement?

Here are the features I am looking for : at least 500Go HDD capable of playing HD (1080p) supporting a good range of video and audio codecs support for subtitles including a DVB-T input (coax) and tuner composite video input 5.1 (or 7.1) analog audio output LAN (100M or Gigabit) fileserver (SMB or NFS) remote control possibly digital output (S/PDIF, TOSLINK, or other) no need for integrated DVD player no need for wifi The Ultio Pro looks nice (http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/home-entertainment/d3fe).   I'm pretty new to network programming. Basically I'm using game center for making a relatively simple iPhone game using Game-center p2p. However i'm now working on a algorithm to improve the multiplayer performance. But, I need to know how long it took for a package to travel from one device to the another device (latency) for the algorithm to work good. As for now, I have solved the problem by sending a double with time interval since 1970 in the package and then I compare it with the time at the other device. However I have heard that the NSDate methods is connected to the internet, which also will cause latency so the time interval would not be perfectly correct. What is the ideal way to check for how long it take for a package to be sent?

  I need an easy way to jump on someone elses machine to help them solve a problem. It needs to be really easy for them to install (preferably doesn't actually require an "install" but just running an exe?). It must punch through any firewalls automatically using a relay server or P2P (so Remote Desktop itself is no use to me). I've found commercial products like MeetMeNow but they're really expensive. I want something that you can either buy a cheap pack of sessions or minutes, or preferably something free. I'm not in the business of commerical support and would only use it once every couple of months perhaps.

• SCCM for mobile device management returns 404 on /devicemgmt/server.resource

  We have a new Windows Server 2008 R2 machine onto which we have installed SCCM SP2 followed by the R2 package. We have enabled a mobile device management point and enabled distribution points to support mobile devices as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680634.aspx We have also installed the Mobile Device Management Client on to a Windows Mobile 6.1 device. The client on the device fails to connect to the server. Our investigation so far has led us to the URL /devicemgmt/server.resource. However, looking in IIS on the server shows no such URL (in fact nothing apart from the aspnet_client directory) and visiting the URL with a browser returns 404. WebDav is enabled on the Default Web Site in IIS. BITS is installed on the server. Can anyone confirm whether enabling mobile device management will add visible directories to IIS and if so why it might be failing in our case?

  Why can't I download applications from neither Muon Softwware Center nor Synaptic Package manager? When I try to download an app from my Kubuntu 12.04 LTS softaware center, it tells me that I can't download any app. SAme thing in Synaptic Package manager : I get an error telling that I can't change anything on my system. The only solution I have is to use the cryted file technic, but I just do not like that. From the terminal, I get an error after I downloaded the package that either the package contains an error or that there is an error from this package. Thank you for your time, your answer and your work. This is very important, I have to install an app for my work.

  Short story: syncing my iPhone music with banshee didn't work and what's worse is, banshee deleted or corrupted the existing music on the phone. I'm sick I tried to sync music at all. And I must admit, if I were not a developer I probably would have switched back to windows instantly. You tend to read that quite a lot when troubleshooting, though I imagine most people don't understand what it means. And do you need to jail break the phone in order to sync it with ubuntu?

But, after following guidelines for making modules in these places: Distributing Python Modules The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Packaging it's not clear to me how to support multiple source distributions for different versions of Python, and it's not clear if/how PyPI could support it. I envisage I would have separate code for: 2.x 2.6 (maybe, as a special case to use the new buffer API) 3.x How is it possible to set up a Python module in PyPI so that someone can do: easy_install modulename and it will install the right thing whether the user is using 2.x or 3.x?

  Hi all, Are there are USB to Serial cables with CDC support? I recently bought these below mentioned cables which claims that they are CDC 1.1 complaint. However, when we received the cables on our verification we found that they were reporting vendor specific device descriptors.
