• ASP.NET GridView And TreeList: 2 Export Improvements v2010 vol 1

  Two very useful export enhancements have been added to the ASPxGridView and ASPxTreeList. Starting with DXperience v2010.1, you can change the exported column width size and export to the Excel 2007 XLSX document format: 1. Change Column Width To change the column width before exporting, use the ExportWidth property. This property has been added to both the GridViewColumn and TreeListDataColumn classes. 2.   The October 2012 security "Critical Patch Update" information and downloads are now available from My Oracle Support (MOS). See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/alerts-086861.html and in particular Document 1475188.1 on My Oracle Support (MOS), http://support.oracle.com, which includes security CVE mappings for Oracle Sun products. For Solaris 11, Doc 1475188.1 points to the relevant SRUs containing the fixes for each issue.  SRU12.4 was released on the CPU date and contains the current cumulative security fixes for the Solaris 11 OS. For Solaris 10, we take a copy of the Recommended Solaris OS patchset containing the relevant security fixes and rename it as the October CPU patchset on MOS.  See link provided from Doc 1475188.1 Doc 1475188.1 also contains references for Firmware, etc., and links to other useful security documentation, including information on Userland/FOSS vulnerabilities and fixes in https://blogs.oracle.com/sunsecurity/

• How to redesign the UI of a large project?

  I'm currently working at a quite big Android project (a social network, you can see it here if is useful to answer the question). We decided to restyle the whole app, changing all the UI design. The code I actually have is complex, there are many controllers, and it's a little messy too. Is it "better" in terms of time and code cleanliness to take one controller per time, and rewrite it entirely, or to modify one controller per time? The layout change entirely anyway, so for that I know I've to restart from scratch. Maybe it could seem a stupid question, but with the "time" variable I really can't see the best way.

• Help with a CMS for content only not display

  Hello I'm trying to make some kind of tool for an school website, what I need to do is to make students take a test and according to what are the results (27 posibilities) they get a set of activities (questions) according to their level which they can solve in around 3 months logging periodically to the website, plus I need teachers to log and look at the reports. Now, I'm a graphic designer myself so my skills are mostly html5 and css3 and I know some php (edit existing ones only) and javascript (jquery) as well, most people tell me that I need a CMS to do the tool but all I find is CMS for display like blogs or news websites which I think aren't useful for me because the website is already made in html and css3 only (I need to add an extra page for the tool) I understand I need to create users and give them special rights according to what type of user they are and I also understand that I need a database where I can store all my questions. What is the best way to do this? what do you suggest me? Thanks

• How to copy the file from source to destination only once at a time?

  I have to copy the file from my desktop to my mounted directory. I was using the following command to copy the file from my desktop to mounted directory. os.system("cp -f /home/Desktop/filename /media/folder_1"). It works fine. But the problem is while copying the file from my source to mounted directory(folder_1) if any interruption is happens like network down, then the system continuously keep on trying. It couldn't skip that process. Finally, when the network comes the files are again copy to my mounted directory. Due to this continuous trying, next time i try to move the content it throws "permission denied" error. How do i copy the file only once, if any network issues happen then it will not keep try to copy, instead of that, it throws the error. If you know, Let me. Its very useful to me.

• Is there a standard for machine-readable descriptions of RESTful services?

  I've interacted with a few RESTful APIs that provided excellent documentation for humans and descriptive URIs, but none of them seem to return machine-readable descriptions of themselves. It's not too tough to write methods of my own that assemble the right paths, and many language-specific API libraries are already just wrappers around RESTful requests. But the next level of abstraction seems really useful: a library that could read in an API's own machine readable documentation and generate the wrappers automatically, perhaps with a call to some standard URI like base_url + '/documentation' Are there any standards for machine-readable API documentation? Am I doing REST wrong? I am a relatively new programmer, but this seems like a good idea.

  I know that static methods/variables are associated with the class and not the objects of the class and are useful in situations when we need to keep count of, say the number of objects of the class that were created. Non-static members on the other hand may need to work on the specific object (i.e. to use the variables initialized by the constructor) My question what should we do when we need neither of the functionalities? Say I just need a utility function that accepts value(s) and returns a value besed solely on the values passed. I want to know whether such methods should be static or not. How is programming efficiency affected and which is a better coding practice/convention and why. PS: I don't want to spark off a debate, I just want a subjective answer and/or references.

• How to name a clamp function that only clamps from one side?

  Clamp() is a function that ensures that provided variable is in provided range. You can find such function in .NET, in Unity, and probably anywhere. While it is useful, I often need to clamp my value from one side only. For example, to ensure that float is always non-negative or always positive (like radius value from inspector). I used names ClampFromAbove() and ClampFromBelow(), but I wonder if such names is good or even grammatically valid in programming-English. Also, it probably make sense to distinguish non-negative case too. How'd you name such function? Something like EnsureNonNegative()? My intention is creating pair of extension methods and use them like this: var normalizedRadius = originalRadius.ClampFromBelow(0.0001); var distance = someVector.Magnitude.ClampFromAbove(maxDistance);

  I wonder if there are benign use-cases for simulating mouse clicks using event.initMouseEvent. I found that it is used for creating pop-under ads in the following way: var e = document.createEvent('MouseEvents'); e.initMouseEvent('click', true, true, window, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, true, false, false, true, 0, null); a.dispatchEvent(e); This code simulates a click on the opening browser window, to force the newly opened window beneath it. Evil. I'm thinking of simply preventing all simulated clicks in my own browser via a browser extension, but I wonder if I might break useful websites and behavior in the process. Therefore I wonder what situations justify simulating mouse clicks, and if there are big sites that use it in non-evil ways.

• Ubuntu freezes while working

  Ubuntu on my laptop has frozen multiple times in last 6-7 months. Its not frequent but I can not relate the freezing to anything which I was doing. Today it froze again when I was taking notes in class - approximately at 12:00 PM. During the freeze both mouse and keyboard stopped working. I tried Alt-Ctrl-F1, Alt-Ctrl-F2 etc without any success. After that I waited few minutes & then I restarted the laptop. I checked /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log and it seems that it did not log anything (I was not able to understand most of it). Please let me know if you can find something unusual at around 12:00 PM. Is there any other log which might be useful? Here are the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log files.

• Ubuntu 11.10 not showing up in GRUB bootloader after update and restart :(

  I was using ubuntu 11.10 with gnome-shell. I installed various useful softwares and ran system update using update manager which ran smoothly and asked me to restart my comp at the end. I restarted it to find that Ubuntu entries were missing from the GRUB bootloader and only memory test and windows are showing up. I took a lot of pain in installing various important softwares and cannot afford a re-installation. Tried to boot from the live cd and installed boot-repair and after running it .. it wasnt working properly .. it was just showing that it was "scanning systems" for more than an hour. Kindly help. • How do I find out which driver a piece of hardware is using?

  Today I'm trying to figure out which driver is best for my USB wireless dongle. Everywhere I look I just see Ralink STA but this isn't telling me which module this actually is. I'm sure there's a way of looking it up but the computer should be able to tell me, shouldn't it? Meta: This question is open to any piece of hardware, not just my wireless card. It would be helpful if we had a thread of useful diagnostic procedures so that other people can find out what's going on with their hardware.

  I'd like to join three ideas into one interesting and sometimes useful feature. There was a question about using multiple passwords earlier this year, but it didn't receive much attention. I'd like to ask the question again after showing an interesting and new way to use the feature.
