    Hi, I'm just thinking about famous internet services like facebook or twitter manage fast growing databases. Which could be a solution for this kind of problem? What about ids ? I read there is a limit in MySQL - 18446744073709551615 - in unsigned bigint... whow would you generate and manage a bigger value ? Just a theoric problem, but i'm curious about a possible solution.     I'm looking to present an Excel questionnaire I have written to the board, via either paper or presentation slides. It uses a lot of drop-down boxes, and so I'm looking for any ideas on how one might go about showing the options for each response (from the drop-down boxes), without having to manually print screen a bunch of times and pasting the results into Visio. Has anyone come across a nie easy, fast method of doing this?

  • Disable scroll acceleration (windows/lenovo)

    Exactly the opposite of http://superuser.com/questions/101482/global-scroll-acceleration-in-windows, is there a way to disable scroll-accelartion on windows (touchpad -- maybe from lenovo drivers). It's heck of annoying -- using no accelartion but high sensitivity like on linux is so much more precise. ( With this silly acceleration, I either have incredibly slow scrolling, or scrolling so fast it skips whole chunks of text at once. Speed control but not acceleration control. Could say the same for mouse cursor, though that's less annoying. )

    My text and programmers editor of choice, when working on a windows box is TSE (The Semware Editor). It is small, it is fast, it is configurabel, and since I've used it (and it's predecessor QEdit) for over twenty years, my fingers can do the editing on autopilot, while the brain is busy with syntax and design. Do you know of a similar editor preferably one that runs on Windows, Linux and OS X (and Solaris ..) I've tried to use VIM (I know how to use VI even longer thant TSE) but it doesn't feel right.

    I have 2 folders: /home/sphinx/articlesdb/ and: /home/sphinx/tmp/articlesdb/ I want to move and overwrite all of the files from tmp into the main folder. I am currently using: mv -f /home/sphinx/tmp/articlesdb/ /home/sphinx/ But I get this error: mv: cannot move `/home/sphinx/tmp/articlesdb/' to a subdirectory of itself, `/home/sphinx/articlesdb' It needs to do this as fast as possible so I don't want to copy. Should I remove /home/sphinx/articlesdb/ completely and then run the mv command or do I just need to tweak the command slightly?

    Hi, on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings. I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast?     Emacs does not seem to respect the OS's key repeat rate. I'm using emacs in the terminal. I've set the repeat rate to as fast as possible by directly editing the settings in the following file (I restarted after making the change): open ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist The rest of the system observes the repeat rate. The terminal works as expected, as does vim. But, when I use emacs I still get the annoyingly slow repeat rate.

  • Wireless Connection unstable when multiple devices connected

    My wireless network works perfectly when only 1 device is connected. Super fast, full strength. But as soon as multiple devices are connected to the wireless network the connections become unstable (constantly losing connection). It's quite annoying. I have a Sitecom Wireless 300N XR Gigabit Router WL-306, which should be a decent router so I'm guessing there must be something wrong with my configuration.
