• dpkg unsatisfied dependencies, now apt-get wants to remove whole system

  firstly, I'm sorry for my terminal output in portuguese, but I guess it is still understandable. I am using Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 and I tried to update the GNOME Online Accounts packages by downloading the following .deb files from packages.ubuntu.com for the Ubuntu 14.10 version: libgoa-backend-1.0-dev_3.12.4-1_amd64.deb libgoa-backend-1.0-1_3.12.4-1_amd64.deb libgoa-1.0-dev_3.12.4-1_amd64.deb libgoa-1.0-0b_3.12.4-1_amd64.deb gnome-online-accounts_3.12.4-1_amd64.deb gir1.2-goa-1.0_3.12.4-1_amd64.deb After downloading them in the same folder, I run the command sudo dpkg -i *.deb, but it didn't install the packages, instead it showed errors due to packages which them depend doesn't meet the required version (and Ubuntu have no way to install them since they are not in this version's repositories). So now every time I want to install anything through apt-get, Ubuntu tells me to run apt-get -f install to fix the errors. • Pay Per Click Software

  What software do sites like www.shopzilla.com, www.become.com, www.kelkoo.com etc.. use for the Pay-Per-Click product listing campaigns they offer for their retailers. I am asking what kind of software do they use to know that a certain retailer's products has been clicked 50 times or 100 times(and then the cost of the click is deducted from his money-account) etc... Can someone point me to those kind of softwares? EDIT *Some Explanation :: * In a site like www.shopzilla.com, retailers will upload thier products(list their products on the site). Anytime a buyer clicks on a product to go the retailer's website, an amount of money(say $0.20) is deducted from his account(the money he has deposited in his account with shopzilla). A retailer can see how many times buyers have clicked on his products and how much money remains in his shopzilla accounts. Am looking for such softwares that comparison sites like shopzilla uses to run this type of campaigns. I hope it is clear now.

• Creating Hosting Accounts in WHM on a Single IP

  I've just purchased a VPS with the hope of transferring multiple shared hosting accounts onto it. The problem is that I've only got 2 IP addresses with my VPS. I can create an account and assign it an IP address, but once I've done this once, I can't do it again. (1 IP address is my main root WHM IP, the other is my new hosting account IP). Can I create multiple hosting accounts and use the same IP? How would I manage multiple hosting accounts in this way? The domain for this hosting account has been purchased by the client, and they hold it (can't transfer for 60 days), so I need to adjust the DNS settings to redirect to my newly created hosting area - how can I do this without a dedicated IP address?

• Why there are many guest accounts?

  After I saw this answer, I realized that there are many guest accounts on my system: grep guest /etc/passwd guest-jzXeRx:x:117:127:Guest,,,:/tmp/guest-jzXeRx:/bin/false guest-l5dAPU:x:118:128:Guest,,,:/tmp/guest-l5dAPU:/bin/false guest-FdSAkw:x:119:129:Guest,,,:/tmp/guest-FdSAkw:/bin/false guest-eBU0cU:x:121:131:Guest,,,:/tmp/guest-eBU0cU:/bin/false Moreover, in this moment there is nobody logged as guest, but if somebody will login as guest, a new guest account is created - why, since there are already other guest accounts? After the new guest will log out, his account will be deleted. But why the other guest accounts remain? For what use/purpose? It doesn't mind me at all this guest account, but I want to know if it is okay to delete them manually.

• Bug unsubscribing from Ubuntu One Mobile

  Hi guys, I have an Ubuntu One Mobile subscription, which I can see in my subscriptions page: one.ubuntu.com/account/subscription/756082 I no longer need my Ubuntu One Mobile subscription, so click the link to cancel the Mobile service subscription: one.ubuntu.com/account/cancel/756082/ Then confirm that request to cancel: one.ubuntu.com/account/cancel/756082/confirm/ But the process ends there showing a "Something has gone wrong page", and my subscription remains active :( The same problem occurred when I attempted the same a few weeks back, so not a temporary problem I'm thinking. Any input gratefully received. I would like to report this problem directly to the maintainer of this part of the Ubuntu site but cannot see how to do that.

• How do I route my SMTP outgoing mail through gmail (Google Mail) ?

  Here is the quick answer:  Go into your client e software (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) for the account you are working on (usually default). Set the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com Set the username as your gmail account user name (e.g. [email protected]). Gmail will need the username and password you use for that account, so if your default is set to some other email, be sure to set the username and password to that value, or click on the checkbox for username/password. • Oneiric desktop looks seriously defect after updates

  Probably a coincidence, but after applying the fix to How to get the proper LightDM theme? and running the latest batch of updates, my desktop suddenly looked like this after rebooting: Funny thing is, it seems to be account specific, as my girlfriend's account seems unaffected. I can't logout because the whole entry is missing on the top right. Rebooting doesn't solve the issue. System settings (when run from the launcher) lacks a whole lot of icons and changeing the theme doesn't solve the problem (only changes the window top bar). I'm going to try the solution in How do I fix my theme? first, but if that doesn't work (likely, since I seem to have a slightly bigger problem than the one in that question) I'd love something else to try (other than creating a new account).

• Unity Gwibber lens doesn't work 12.10

  Is there something Specific I am needing to do to get the unity Gwibber/Social lens to work. I have gone into system settings and added google account, twitter account and facebook account. When I go to the lens however nothing is displayed at all its blank. I search any term including my name and it states nothing to display. So it remains blank. If I start gwibber itself it has found and does see my accounts new messages and posts. Any hints on what to try?

(2 Wordpress Websites, activated with 'GoogleAdsense Plugin' for WordPress). They are implemented at the bottom of every post on my 2 Wordpress websites within the 'Blog' sections. My adsense dashboard is stating I've received a few clicks; but across it still states my account earnings and balance at $0.00. When / How will I start seeing money earned to my account?

• How to Export Email "Sent" Folder?

  A client had her web site and email hosted at "company A". She was switching to "company B" but didn't want to lose her email. I set up a Gmail account, POPed into her webmail account, and pulled the entire inbox into Gmail (for later transfer to her new host). But I forgot about the "sent" folder. Although the hosting plan is still up and running, she changed her domain record to point to the new host. So I can't access the old webmail account via POP or IMAP because the email address needed for authentication now resolves to the new host. Is there any way I can get the contents of the sent folder without having to do a "forward" one message at a time (there are hundreds)?

• How can I set access to mounted TrueCrypt volumes, and how can I dismount them on logout?

  I have TrueCrypt setup to mount volumes when I log into my work account. However, when I log out and log in to another account, those volumes are still mounted and available on the other account. How can I set access to those volumes? I don't want all users to be able to access them once they're mounted. (They mounted at /media/volumename - do I just set permissions on the folder "volumename" before mounting?) How can I tell TrueCrypt to dismount them when I log out?

• Vendors: Partners or Salespeople?

  I got a great e-mail from a friend that asked about how he could foster a better relationship with his vendors. So many times when you work with a vendor it’s more of a used-car sales experience than a partnership – but you can actually make your vendor more of a partner, as long as you both set some ground-rules at the start. Sit down with your vendor, and have a heart-to-heart talk with them, explain that they won’t win every time, but that you’re willing to work with them in an honest way on both sides. Here’s the advice I sent him verbatim. I hope this post generates lots of comments from both customers and vendors. I don’t expect that you’ve had a great experience with your Microsoft reps, but I happen to work with some of the best sales teams in the business, and our clients tell us that all the time. “The key to this relationship is to keep the audience really small. Ideally there should be one person from your side that is responsible for the relationship, and one from the vendor’s side. Each responsible person should have the authority to make decisions, and to bring in other folks as needed for a given topic, project or decision.   For Microsoft, this is called an “Account Manager” – they aren’t technical, they aren’t sales. They “own” a relationship with a company. They learn what the company does, who does it, and how. They are responsible to understand what the challenges in your company are. While they don’t know the bits and bytes of everything we sell, they know what each thing does, and who to talk to about it. I get a call from an Account Manager every week that has pre-digested an issue at an organization and says to me: “I need you to set up an architectural meeting with their technical staff to get a better read on how we can help with problem X.” I do that and then report back to the Account Manager what we learned.  All through this process there’s the atmosphere of a “team”, not a “sales opportunity” per se. I’ve even recommended that the firm use a rival product, and I’ve never gotten push-back on that decision from my Account Managers.   But that brings up an interesting point. Someone pays an Account Manager and pays me. They expect something in return. At some point, you have to buy something. Not every time, not every situation – sometimes it’s just helping you with what you already bought from us. But the point is that you can’t expect lots of love and never spend any money. That’s the way business works.   Finally, don’t view the vendor as someone with their hand in your pocket – somebody that’s just trying to sell you something and doesn’t care if they ever see you again – unless they deserve it. There are plenty of “love them and leave them” companies out there, and you may have even had this experience with us, but that isn’t the case in the firms I work with. In fact, my customers get a questionnaire that asks them that exact question. “How many times have you seen your account team? Did you like your interaction with them? Can they do better?” My raises, performance reviews and general standing in my group are based on the answers the company gives.  Ask your vendor if they measure their sales and support teams this way – if not, seek another vendor to partner with.   Partnering with someone is a big deal. It involves time and effort on your part, and on the vendor’s part. If either of you isn’t pulling your weight, it just won’t work. • Unity launcher Hebrew locale

  I am setting up a user account for someone wanting to use a Hebrew locale in Ubuntu 13.04. Everything nicely aligns to the right-hand side when using the Hebrew locale, except for the Unity launcher. This still sticks to the left-hand side, which sort of looks very odd in an otherwise right-hand side locale. See the screenshot Now I know moving the Unity launcher position is not possible normally, but one would expect that it automagically aligns to the right-hand side in a right-hand side locale. When setting up the account, I first set the locale to English (since I myself don't understand Hebrew), and only later changed it to Hebrew. Is this the "wrong" way of setting up a right-hand side user-account, or is this left-hand side launcher the expected behavior of Unity even in a right-hand side locale?

• Google SMTP relay sending limits

  I'm considering using Google Apps for email with my company domain and for sending emails to customers from my website using SMTP. On Google's website it says the following: Limits for registered Google Apps users A registered Google Apps user cannot relay messages to more than 2,000 recipients per day. Limits per domain Per-domain sending limits are determined by the number of users in your Google Apps account. There are two per-domain limits: The maximum number of recipients allowed per domain per day is approximately 130 times the number of users in your Google Apps account. The maximum number of recipients allowed per domain in a 10 minute window is approximately 9 times the number of users in your Google Apps account. Additionally, the maximum number of recipients allowed per domain per day for accounts not yet paid for during the first month of service is 100. If I'm a single user, with a single domain, then does that mean I can only email 130 people a day using SMTP? That limit seems low.

• Reviewing an advertiser / ads

  I recently got a direct ad campaign for one of my sites. The advertiser agreed to my price without much bargaining. No contract was signed, but I had specified pre payment as part of our agreement. The advertiser is not a major network. Currently they are showing affiliate ads. Some things about this deal seems fishy to me - The amount was direct deposited to our account, not transferred from their company account. - Just below the visible ad, I can see a hidden iframe which contains the flight search widget for a major airline (Could this be cookie stuffing?) - They are contacting me from a gmail account - They did not insist for a signed contact How can I ensure that the advertiser is legitimate and is not using the adslot for illegal purpose?

• How can I tell how a panel item was set up

  I need to do some major surgery on a user account that has somehow sustained configuration damage to the point window decorations are gone, some apps don't listen to the keyboard, etc etc. I run xfce4 sessions. There's a panel on the top of the screen that has applications that I put there once upon a time. I know how to do that, sort of. But I don't remember the details of what I specified. And I'm unaware of an app for the panel that's like the menu editor that lets you see and manipulate an item that's already there. I want to do that because I want to re-do this stuff in a different account. Or possibly do a dotfile transplant on this account and re-edit to include the stuff I'm used to.

• One of my user accounts logs in without desktop environment

  When I log in to my main user account on Ubuntu 11.10 ,the desktop environment (unity bar, clock, volume control, etc.) is not there. All I have is the desktop background with a menu bar across the top which appears to be for nautilus (options like File-New folder). My other accounts log in like normal. I have recently followed these instructions to give my main user account access to an OSX partition, but I think I have logged in successfully since then. I am able to get a terminal by pressing ctrl+alt+t, but when I typed unity the whole thing crashed. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I have a separate administrator account I can use if needed.

  Logging in via the shell accessed through Ctrl+Alt-F1 and logging in as guest via the graphical user interface work 0O When I try to log into my standard user account via the graphical interface, the screen flashes to black for a couple of seconds and bumps me back to a pristine login screen. Entering a wrong password for my user account yields the standard error message - my user account and credential verification seem to be OK. I suppose that my individual graphics configuration causes problems ... I'm not sure how to reset that. I've tried stopping the UI via sudo service lightdm stop executed sudo nvidia-xconfig and restarted the UI sudo service lightdm start to no avail. My workstation has a Nvidia GeForce 560-448 graphics card. I've tried getting this fixed with the latest Nvidia 64-bit drivers (cURL'ed from the official website), that is 295.49 and the latest beta driver 302.07. Anybody have an idea how to get this fixed? Your help is appreciated :)

• What did I do wrong when buying my domain through Google Apps?

  Several times in the past I've bought a domain through Google Apps, and every year Google automatically renews the domain for $10. Somehow when I did this today, I ended up additionally being signed up for an annual Google Apps for Business plan at $12/license/yr. I don't need this; I'm only one user. I'd like to cancel this $12/yr Google Apps plan without cancelling the automatical $10/yr domain renewal. However, there is no "cancel" or "downgrade" link, apparently (according to the help docs) because I have an annual pre-paid account. If I choose not to auto-renew my annual account, it also declines auto-renewal of my domain. How can I make this domain just like my others -- auto-renewed at $10/yr, with a free Google Apps account in front of it?

• Numlock doesn't work after logging in

  I've a strange problem after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 The Numlock of my Apple Keyboard (white, wired) doesn't work anymore. Strange thing because it works with the guest account but not with my user account. I did change the lightdm.conf to get the numlock working for the login and it works, but nor in my user account. Even stranger, pushing zero effects a right click? I also tried different keyboard layouts, but it shows Numlock on (stuck on) but doesn't work. Any idea which config file stores information about this?

• Can't login after forced shutdown

  I am on ubuntu 12.04 and forced a shutdown (hardware switch). Now I can't login anymore. In particular, after entering my password I get sent back to the login screen. The error message is to fast for me to read. I am, however, able to login into the Guest account through the usual login screen, and able to login into my own account on tty1 after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1. What should I try to get back into my own account via the login screen and get back to a working desktop? Update: I can login with gdm, but not with the (default) lightdm. So the forced shutdown seems to have broken lightdm. The question now is, how do I fix a broken lightdm?

  Hello All, I have two OPEN-ID accounts referenced with same gmail address, now i forget one of my Open ID account's password and when i tried to recover my password then the mail sent by The MyOpen ID Team having second one open-id account's password change link whereas i need first one open-id password. i tries a lot of times to recover but each time mail having second open-id passord change link so what do i do to recover my first open-id password whereas i m able to login from that open-id via gmail account. i have mailed to open id teams many times already? but no answer?? how do i collect all open ID password reset link referencing same email address??

• 80,000 hits on irrelevant topic in 1-2 days [closed]

  On 3rd of Nov 2012 somebody started this thread : http://forums.hostgator.com/advice-needed-new-account-t214566.html?t=214566 subject "Advice needed on new account". I visited it on 5th and when I saw the total views I was stunned to see figure of 80,000( while other threads were having views from 50-300). I even made a post using name of rag_gupta. Then I simply typed in Google in IE (I work on Firefox) : Advice needed on new account ---- and yes this same page was in no#1 position. Subsequently I tried to create similar wording article in Hubpages to see how it'd fare. Unfortunately it was not allowed to be published. Then I published in blogger.com. But hardly any hits. Considering only the first two posts in the thread what could have driven google to rank it highly?
